• Redirect everything except the homepage

  Is there a way in nginx to redirect everything from domain1.com to domain2.com, except for the homepage? Right now I have: server { listen 80; server_name www.domain1.com domain1.com; rewrite ^ http://domain2.com$uri permanent; } This works, except that I'd like http://domain1.com (without any additional path) to be left alone and not redirected. Basically, I need to redirect everything, to avoid broken links, but I want to use the homepage of domain1 to serve a static file.

• Two domains hosted on the same server with different root folder shows up the same homepage

  I have hosted two domains from GoDaddy at Linode VPS. They are mobiletoast.com and lesseltechnologies.com Thought the latter site has a separate index folder, whenever I navigate to it, I get the homepage of mobiletoast.com The strange thing is, I see the expected page (It works), when I open the site from my mobile phone. But when I open the site from my PC (any browser, without any cache, hard refresh), I get the homepage of mobiletoast.com The Linode support team says, they see the correct "It works" page. But I am not able to see that page. I'd like to do this all at the same time. I imagine that there's an application that has an input box for the URL I want to use as homepage and an OK button to set it in all browsers.   While this might not 100% match the intent of this site, it was the closest match from Stackexchange sites. So, if a web site (the "entrance" page) offers a choice (a list) of countries, with the text "Chose your country", but the users country is not listed, what should he do? One example is http://www.samsung.com/countryselection.do Addition: I ask this standing in the users position. I encounter a web site and it gives me the above page. What to do? Another issue: What is "my" country? My current location? My permanent residence? The country of my citizenship? Something else?

  My work colleague has recently had conversations with some SEO consultants and after those conversations she has come to the conclusion that having a link to the home page on the home page will have a negative effect on the websites SEO. And because of this we are now building websites that don't have a home link show until you are on any page other than the home page. If the above argument is true then surely then if we are on the about page of a website we shouldn't show a navigation item for the page we are on, and that would the case for any other page of the website... So my question is: Does having a home navigation item on the home page have a negative effect on the websites SEO? And if not: Why has my colleague come to the above conclusion? Could she be misunderstanding something more important about home links on the home page regarding SEO?

  I've decided to start developing multilingual web site. Now I'm thinking about the structure. The idea is to use a simple algorithm to find out what language is most interesting to the visitor when he makes his first visit to the root page, and then forward him to the corresponding address, for example, http://example.com/en/ for English-speaking audience and http://example.com/ru/ for Russians. The question is, how search engines react on such redirect? If this approach does not take away site's reputation, which redirects should I choose: 301 or 302? I would be very grateful for the reasoned response.

  Hi, I am using Win 7 64 bit with Firefox as my web browser. Whenever I double click on the FF icon to open my firefox, there would be a chinese website, loading as a tab on my FF. I have checked on my setting for startup homepage for FF under the Tools > Options, it was set to Google as my default page. Can anyone please advise how can I remove the disturbing chinese website from loading on my ff everytime I open my firefox? Thank you very much.

• My php homepage downloads index.php instead of being processed on Gandi.net

  if I go to the homepage of my website http://www.website.com (on a brand new server) the index.php gets donwloaded instead than processed. I don't have the same problem on other folders. my .htaccess reads: AddHandler php5-script .php what could this be? I suspect it's something with php config / or htaccess, but I'm not able to figure it out. help please! edit: I don't know if this helps: it's a wordpress installation, I have this problem only on the public part of the website, not on the admin (that renders correctly)

• Magento - Integrating Wordpress into Magento for the homepage

  I currently have a Magento store where I'm using a CMS page as the homepage. I want to integrate my wordpress blog (hosted on the same server) into this CMS page. It would show the latest blog post and preferably have the comment function available on the front page. The first thing I considered was using the Wordpress Loop on the Magento CMS page, but it doesn't seem like it allows PHP. One other thought I had was to create the homepage using modules or blocks. To be honest, I've never created a module or block so I'm not all that familiar with what is involved. The CMS page that I had created is simply an image slider/carousel (nivo-slider) and some photos with links. None of the content actually needs to be done with CMS, it just needs to be presented within my Magento theme/framework. All homepage updates will be handled by myself, so I can bypass the CMS system all together and just update modules if it turns out that the modules solution will allow me to have both the Wordpress blog and nivo-slider on the same page. Any thoughts?

  If I made a homepage with an embedded .swf which had buttons that linked to other html pages on my website using the getUrl() function, would those links be spiderable by google? Or should I also put in text links outside of the .swf (which would ruin the design a bit)? I know a lot of people will argue I shouldn't have flash as the main content on the homepage (and their comments are appreciated), but bear in mind, that's not my question.

• Changing Physical Path gives blank homepage

  I have two websites ASP Classic - www.company.com and www.companytesting.com. At this time of year, company.com is pointed to a folder called website2012 and companytesting.com is pointing to a folder called website2013. The contents of those two folders are almost identical, just minor changes for our season change (which I was supposed to do today - lol). Up until a couple of weeks ago, I was running Windows Server 2003. To update the "live" website, I'd make a copy of the test site folder, and rename it website2013R1, and point the test site there, then point the live site at website2012. We now have Windows Server 2008 R2 64. (I had someone migrate the websites to the new server for me.) The companytesting.com site, when I pointed it to website2013R1, worked fine. The company.com site, when I pointed it to website2013 (which worked just before, for the companytesting.com site) gives an empty page. (i.e. view source = nothing there.) There is nothing in the failed request log when this happens. I can use the Explore button/link (upper right) in IIS7.5 and see all of the files there. If I use the browse button (either in general or on the index.asp page) I get the blank page again. One weirdness about how these are set up is that companytesting.com uses a login (which I think is windows authentication - it's simply a single username and password for staff, and to keep the GoogleBots out of it). Obviously, company.com does not. But redirecting the to website2013r1 kept the login in place. (So I'm not absolutely clear whether that's attached to the folder or to the site. Hitting the company.com site after changing the path did not yield a password request.) The permissions on the folders all seem to be the same, but obviously, I'm missing something. Why isn't changing the physical path working? As is probably obvious, I'm not knowledgeable about servers. I did OK in 2003, but since it's not my main task and I'm buried right now, I have barely looked at 2008. So I may have really stupid questions when you ask me to check something.

  Thanks in advance for you help Ive been doing this as a lovejob for friends and now im getting quotes of several hundred dollars for minor homepage variation and I'm not sure if its valid. I'm not a programmer myself, just trying hard :) Via the CafePress press75 theme, I'm trying to go from 1 / 2 / 3 column home layout, to 1-2 merged and 3, push the 2nd column data to the right and have the 1st column span as a 16:9 gallery (nextgengallery plugin installed). Is this really a complex thing from a coding perspective? The current guy talking to me is saying its going to cost $700 or 800 AUD to alter, which is rough when the template cost $85.. From this http://shocolate.com.au.previewdns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/shocolatecurrent.jpg to this 'url+Shocolatelooklikethis.jpg' I was able to get the sidebar removed by taking out ‘‘ near the bottom of home.css.. Just can’t get the middle data to flow over it? This would be ideal as a result, as the system puts the latest selected blog post on the homepage, so if we can get rid of the sidebar div and have the text appear where it was, that would be ideal. Removing the sidebar from the bottom of home.php and setting the thumbnail width to say 450 gives me the result im after EXCEPT the text doesn’t fill where the sidebar is, it wraps underneath.   Hi, I'm a Firefox user since several years so I know it but today I had a strange problem. I installed the last stable version of Firefox (3.5.5) on a computer but when I launch the browser the page stay empty (blank). In the settings I set the startpage as Google but nothing to do. When the browser starts in the address bar it is well written google.com but the page remains blank. I must click on the button in the address bar so that the site appears.   A couple of months ago, I configured Firefox to load a local html file containing my commonly-used links whenever I open a new tab This week I've been trying to find where I set this up. I cannot find this setting anywhere in the Firefox options. Somewhere there is (or was) a dialog box with an item that said something like 'Page to load in new tab'. Where was it? Could Mozilla have removed it in the latest upgrade? I'm not using any extensions but LastPass, so it's not controlled by an extension.

  I definitely know how to change the home page in Internet Explorer (Tools -> Options -> General). The problem is, no matter what I put there, it never changes. Stop/restart Internet Explorer and the old home page is back. I did some research to see if there is a registry key that I could tweak to get the home page to set properly. I changed the start page registry key and refreshed the view and the start page key (without even restarting regedit) was reset back to its original value. Now I'm a little concerned.   In Firefox 25 (running on Windows 7), I have the following Startup settings: When Firefox starts = 'Show my home page' Home Page = (URL of the site I want) So when I click on the Home button, I get the right page. That's all good. However, when I open a new tab, I get the 'recently visited websites tiles' screen, i.e. this: Screenshot. How do I get Firefox to show my Home Page in new tabs as well?? Note: when I open a new Window, it works OK. I'm getting the Home Page there. The problem is just with New Tab!
