  • Huge area of stuck pixels

    A toddler slammed down my laptop screen while an iPod was laying on top of the keyboard. The damage resulted in a massive area of stuck pixels on the laptop screen, approximately 2 inches by 10 inches in area. I've tried running various programs that rapidly flick the pixels in different colors, as well as massaging the screen with heat and also without heat. These are the standard methods I read about for fixing a stuck pixel. But none of the online articles I read said how to fix a huge area of pixels, not just single pixels. What else can I try to get the many pixels unstuck? My computer is no longer under warranty and I don't want to buy a new one.

  • Logitech Revue - tv picture extends too far off left/right side of tv?

    Hi, I got a logitech revue (for google tv). I hooked it up, works ok, but the picture is not fitting horizontally in my hdtv. The hdtv is a Sony Bravia, 2010 model. The tv picture is fitting vertically just fine, but it looks like the left and right ends of the picture extend way off farther than they should be. In other words, it looks like the picture is starting about 4 inches to the left of the left side of the tv, and extends 4 inches past the right edge of the tv. I know in menu - settings you have an option to "maximize" your picture, which works for the vertical directions, but the horizontal directions seem convinced that they're maximized properly and I cannot adjust. Any help here? Thanks

    An image with a pixel resolution of 640 x 480 has additional dimension and resolution parameters according to exiftool. I'm unsure what they mean. Why are the X / Y Resolution parameters the same?Should they not reflect the pixel dimensions of the image? What does Exif Image Size mean and how is it different from the pixel dimensions? What is the focal plane?   • Make SQL Server Reporting Services use metric measurements

    I'm newly getting into creating and programming reports using SQL Server Reporting Services. One thing that bugs me right off the bat: I can't seem to find an easy way to tell the BIDS (Business Intelligence Dev Studio, a.k.a. Visual Studio) to use the metric system for measurements - you know - millimeters, centimeters etc., instead of inches and so on. I was trying to figure out whether that's a setting inside Visual Studio (and if so: where is it??), or whether this depends on the Reporting services instance we're going against (and again: if so, where the heck can I change that???). There must be a way to change this!! Except for the US, no one in the world is still measuring in inches..... c'mon - the world at large has long since adopted the metric system! Don't tell me Microsoft makes me go back into the dark ages.....

  • Window 'onscreen' size puzzle

    Okay, a REALLY fundamental question about window sizes here... If I create an NSWindow in IB, set its size to 216 x 144 points (exactly 3 inches by 2 inches) then print the window, it measures exactly what I set it to in IB. However, the onscreen display size measures approximately 156 x 105 points. What causes this, and is there any way to force the window to display at the required size onscreen? I ultimately want to draw to this (semi-transparent) window then use it as a full-sized overlay for comparison against a separately loaded scanned image of known size.

    Hello, I am trying to determine how to get the height on a block of latex output (not the whole document, and not the code..but rather a block of output). As an example of what I am trying to accomplish: i were to have the latex code $\sum_{i=0}^\infty \frac{1}{n}\infty$ \newline hello world \newline hello universe its output would be something like 2 inches high. Of course, the height of the above block of text is dependent on a number of things-font, margin size, etc, as changing any of these parameters changes how many inches that output would be.     I've got an IR sensor which writes its current information to a token which I then interpret in a C# application. That's all good -- no problems there, heres my code: SetLabelText(tokens [1],label_sensorValue); sensorreading = Int32.Parse(tokens[0]); sensordistance = (mathfunctionhere); Great. So the further away the IR sensor is from an object, the lower the sensor reading (as less light is reflected back and received by the sensor). My problem is in interpreting that length. I can go ahead and get lets say "110" as a value when an object is 5 inches away, and then "70" as a value when an object is 6 inches away. Now I want to be able to calculate the distance of an object using these constants for any length. Any ideas?

  • How to resize pdf graphics produced in R using Illustrator

    I am making plots in R using the pdf() command. Graphs look perfect and resize nicely in Acrobat Reader. My usual workflow includes manipulating labels etc. in Illustrator, saving as .eps for submission to publishers or inserting in Word. All works fine for single graphs. Now I am trying to combine 4 graphs into one by manually putting them together in an A4 Illustrator document. However, when I resize the standard 7x7 inches pdf graph in Illustrator to fit in one column of an A4 page (ca 3.4 inches wide), all proportions get screwed up, e.g. lines and symbols outlines become way too thick. Using pdf(..., width=3.4, height=3.4) in R messes up all the symbol and font sizes so carefully chosen to produce the original graph. Why can't I resize the graph within Illustrator the same way I can resize the pdf e.g. in Acrobat Reader?

    I know many people have complained about the almost invisible and not usable scrollbars in recent versions of Ubuntu, even after removing or disabling the default overlay scrollbars. I wonder how can I easily change their color AND width.   • How to change font size on display

    My laptop is Lenovo T400, whose screen size is 14.1 inches and default resolution is 1440 x 900. My main OS is Ubuntu 10.10. The default font size on the display is somehow small, which might contribute to the fatigue of my eyes. My previous laptop is Acer 5000, whose screen size is 15.4 inches and the default resolution is 1024 x 768. I like reading on my old laptop better than on my new one. Is it possible to change the setting of my new one to look like reading my old one? What are the parameters that control the font size? Are screen size, resolution part of them? In Windows, there are choices for font size, while in Ubuntu I haven't find out where I can change the setting and would like know if someone here knows about it. I also wonder if I can use a separate bigger display (perhaps just like a desktop display) as the display of my laptop, in case I don't want to enlarge font size at the cost of sacrificing the amount of the content to display, and how I shall do it?   • Get settings through a button action

    I am looking for a way to access user settings (I assume, NSUserDefaults?) through a button action. Let me back up and explain. What I have right now are 2 TextFields a label and a button. The user will type in measurements in the 2 TextFields. When they hit the button the label displays the volume of the measured object in Gallons. That part of it works great. Then I wanted to give the user options to output the volume in Liters instead of gallons. I would also like to give the user options to type in the measurements in Centimeters. So I setup a 'Settings.Bundle' and configured it with 2 'Multi Value' cells (Measurement units and Volumetric Units). Each Multi Value cell has its own list of different units the user can pick from. My main issue is I don't know how to access these settings through the button action. I may be thinking of this wrong, but what I'm looking for is something like; Button Action If settings key = 0 Then do the math in Inches, Display in Gallons If settings key = 1 Then do the math in Centimeters, Display in Gallons If settings key = 2 Then do the math in Inches, Display in Liters If settings key = 3 Then do the math in Centimeters, Display in Liters Etc... Is this possible? Am I thinking of this in the wrong way? What's the best way to do this?

    My problem is to calculate the data (string) that can fit into the given page size (in inches). I have an application which creates plain vanilla HTML report without using any reporting controls. Now I have to provide paging support in this report. the report is dynamic in nature i.e. columns are decided at run time. Depending upon the page width, I want to wrap columns in multiple lines. For example, if the page width is 8", i want to fit only first 'n' columns in first line and rest columns can be displayed in second line (or more lines if required). For this I need to calculate how much data can fit in a 8" wide line. Similarly, I want to calculate the height of data that can fit into the given height of page. To summarize, how can I calculate how much data can fit into the given page size in inches. Note: The calculation should also consider the font as it is decided at run time.

    I usually choose English as an installation language since I believe that the original is better than the translation. However, the environment I'm working in is mostly Russian, so I have to deal with locale specificity. Even worse is the fact that selecting English yields to royal measurement system, that is, feet, inches, and damned letter paper size. Whatever I do, I didn't manage to get rid of letter paper size - eventually here and there I stumble upon letter as a hidden default, and that spoils my prints. How can I select and use English as my language, but use metric system everywhere and a4 paper size everywhere, and Russian regional settings (date, time, decimal etc).
