  • interactive lua: command line arguments

    I wish to do lua prog.lua arg1 arg2 from the command line Inside prog.lua, I want to say, for instance print (arg1, arg2, '\n') Lua doesn't seem to have argv[1] etc and the methods I've seen for dealing with command line arguments seem to be immature and / or cumbersome. Am I missing something?

I don't care about the algorithm to match similar objects. I only am wondering about the effects. From what i understand they are called recursive orbital diagram.   • Making an interactive 2D map

    So recently I have been working on a Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past clone, and I am wondering how I could handle certain map interactions (like cutting grass, lifting rocks, etc). The way I am currently doing the tilemap is with 2 PNGs. The first is the "tilemap" where each pixel represents a 16x16 tile and the (red, green) values are the (x, y) coords for the tile in the second PNG (the "tileset"). I am then using the blue channel to store collision data. Each tile is split into 4 8x8 tiles and represented by a 2 bit value (0 = empty, 1 = Jumpdown point, 2 = unused right now, 3 = blocking). 4 of these 2 bit values make up the full blue channel (1 byte). So collisions work great, and I am moving on to putting interactive units on the level; but I am not sure what a good way is to do it. I have experimented with spawning an entity for each grass and rock, but there are just WAY to many; FPS just dies even if I confine it to the current "zone" the user is in (for those who remember LTTP it had zones you moved between). It does make a difference that this is a browser-based JavaScript game. tl;dr: What is a good way to have an interactive map without using full blown entities for each interactive item?

  • Using schtasks in interactive mode

    Hello! I'd like to create a scheduled task from the command line, in interactive mode. The at hh:mm /interactive program command fails, stating that security policies do not allow interactive execution. I'd therefore like to use the schtasks command. But when I type something like schtasks /Create /TN MyTask /SC DAILY /ST "13:10" /TR "notepad.exe" /V1 /F I get a message asking for my password, although I haven't set a password for my session. And when I leave the field blank, the command line answers that the task won't be able to run. How can I fix this problem? And how can I make the task interactive? Using /RU SYSTEM prevents the task from being run in interactive mode. Thanks! CFP.

  • Interactive Reporting with BI Publisher 11G

    One of the new features that came out with BI Publisher 11G and made me really excited about is the Interactive Viewer, which allows you to interact with the data presented in the reports and gain more insights about the data. You can have as many Table, Chart, Pivot Table, Gauge components in a single report and all of them are linked together so that you can click on any data point on the components such as Chart, Pivot Table, Gauge, and that would refresh other components in the report to reflect the selection without refreshing the whole report or page. No longer you need to navigate to another report or open other reports to see related data or drill down to the detail data. It’s all there within a single report. Well, sounds cliché but really this is a typical case of ‘seeing is believing’, so instead of reading I would love you guys to take a look so I’ve recorded the following video. Please take a look !   The above video shows you the power of the BI Publisher Interactive Viewer with a real data from San Francisco Airport. We will be releasing more details nearer the date but hopefully the following is enough to convince you to register and … recommend it to a colleague or three :-) What we have produced is the “Microsoft Azure Self-paced Learning Course”. This is a free, interactive, self-paced, technical training course covering the Windows Azure platform – Windows Azure, SQL Azure and the Azure AppFabric. The course takes place over a six week period finishing on June 18th. During the course you will work from your own home or workplace, and get involved via interactive Live Meetings session, watch on-line videos, work through hands-on labs and research and complete weekly coursework assignments.   • Embed IF text parser in another game?

    Are there any existing interactive fiction text parsing engines that I can embed in another game or application? I'm looking to use something as a library. I can pass it the available objects and verbs from my own side. It will parse the sentences from the user and give me back some sort of structure/AST describing what the user asked for. Then my own code can then act upon that request. I don't need something SIRI level. The simple sentences and actions that current IF games support is fine. But I'm not looking to write a whole text/sentence parser myself. This isn't an If game and I can't write it entirely in an interactive-fiction language like inform 7. Unfortunatly, I can't seem to find any examples of anyone using the text parsing capabilities of these engines without writing the entire game in that engine's language.

    Im trying to learn HTML and javascript. But i cant find any information about how to create interactive map/picture using javascript. Ex. I take a map where is a part of my town and write some information about like few buildings there, so after i put my mouse over those buildings the information will be displayed.   • Sun Grid Engine: Automatically Terminating Idle Interactive Jobs

    We're considering using Sun Grid Engine on a small compute cluster. Right now, the current set up is pretty crude and just involves having people ssh to an open machine to run their jobs. We'd like to allow interactive jobs, since that should ease the transition from manually starting jobs to starting them using qsub. But, there is some concern that, if we do, people might accidentally leave their interactive sessions idle and block other jobs from being run on the machines. The issue isn't just theoretical, since we previously tried using OpenPBS and there was a problem with people opening up an interactive job in a screen session and essentially camping on a machine. Is there anyway to configure SGE to automatically kill idle interactive jobs? It looks like this was requested as an enhancement (Issue #:2447) way back in 2007. But, it doesn't seem like the request ever got implemented.

    Oracle Solaris 11.2 adds a new Automated Installer (AI) Manifest Wizard to allow administrators to more easily create AI manifests for use in provisioning new client systems in the data center. The AI Manifest Wizard is a web web based interface that steps administrators through the basics of the AI manifest - target disks and layout selection, additional ZFS pools and datasets, IPS publisher and package selection, and the creation of any Oracle Solaris Zone virtual environments. The end result is an AI manifest without having to directly edit XML, and this can then be associated with an appropriate AI service.
