  • MacPorts on mountain lion - cannot install apache2 due to gettext package

    I have been having problem with installing gettext package from macports. When I am launching /opt/local/bin/port -v install apache2 it checks dependencies, and continues with gettext package installation. But the configure process freezes here: checking for egrep... /usr/bin/grep -E and nothing happens.. can wait hours, nothing changes. I tried to configure, make, make install manually for that package and it went all fine. But, when same configure is launched by ports, it hangs there. Question: 1) How can that be fixed? 2) Maybe I can somehow manually tell ports, that I installed that gettext package manually already? Sorry, if wrong "site" for this question. Felt most proper one.

  • py2app, pyObjc & macports compilation errors

    Hi, I'm currently writing a small python app that embeds cherrypy and django using py2app. It worked well until I tried to include pyobjc in my project, since my app needed a small GUI (which consists of a small icon in the top menu bar + a drop down menu). I can run my python script without any problem (I'm using python 2.6 with macports), but I can't launch the application bundle generated by py2app. A dialog box appears with the following message: ImportError: dlopen(/Users/denis/tlon/standalone/mac/dist/django_cherry.app/Contents/Resources/lib/python2.6/lib-dynload/CoreFoundation/_inlines.so, 2): no suitable image found. Did find: /Users/denis/tlon/standalone/mac/dist/django_cherry.app/Contents/Resources/lib/python2.6/lib-dynload/CoreFoundation/_inlines.so: mach-o, but wrong architecture I did a quick : sudo port -u install py26-pyobjc +universal but for some reason macports tries to build openssl, with which compilation fails each time. It seems the problem is related to zLib - this is what appears in the logs : :info:build ld: warning: in /opt/local/lib/libz.dylib, file is not of required architecture ...And here is the output of file /opt/local/lib/libz.dylib : /opt/local/lib/libz.dylib: Mach-O universal binary with 2 architectures /opt/local/lib/libz.dylib (for architecture x86_64): Mach-O 64-bit dynamically linked shared library x86_64 /opt/local/lib/libz.dylib (for architecture i386): Mach-O dynamically linked shared library i386 Nothing looks wrong to me. I'm a bit stuck here. I don't even understand what openssl has to do with pyObjc, but it looks like I can't go anywhere if I don't manage to compile it. Macports really suck sometimes :/ EDIT I manage to fix Macports issue, but not py2app one. If I get it right, py2app try to create a 32-bits app, while Core Foundation files on Snow Leopard are for 64 bits architectures. Damn. Either I build this on Leopard, either I have to find a way to create a 64bit app with py2app, but then Snow Leopard only.

  • Macports and virtualenv site-packages Fallback

    I've installed django and python as this link suggested with macports. However, I'd like to use virtualenv to install more packages. My understanding is that if I do not pass in the --no-site-packages to virtualenv, I should get the currently installed packages in addition to whatever packages I install into the virtual environment. Is this correct?     I'm trying to install Image Magick on MAMP. And I'm seriously out of my depth. I've installed MacPorts, and opened the terminal. I've typed in sudo port -v selfupdate per the instructions on http://www.macports.org/install.php#pkg But the response I get from the Terminal is Unrecognized action "sudo" I've googled and googled, but can't find anything that makes a slab of sense. Any clever people feeling generous?

    I was recently installing Inkscape with MacPorts through a Mac OSX Leopard Terminal using "sudo port install inkscape" And during the search-and-download for dependencies, many of these type of comments were printed: ###################################################################### # As MacPorts does not currently have a post-deactivate hook, # you will need to ensure that you manually remove the catalog # entry for this port when you uninstall it. I do not understand what "it" refers to in the phrase 'ensure that you manually remove the catalog entry for this port when you uninstall it'. Does 'it' refer to a 'this port'? How is a port uninstalled? Mostly: When will I have to manually remove the catalog entry using the provided command? Also, what is a catalog entry? is that what appears when I type "sudo port search inkscape" ? I am kind of a MacPorts install n00b. Thanks very much for your time.

    This might be a bit dev-heavy for the site... but here goes. I installed the macports version of sudo. All is well, except for one thing. Using python 2.6 to expand ~ to the user's home directory results in a different output than the version of sudo that comes with Snow Leopard. For example consider the following python code: #expand_home_dir.py import os os.path.expanduser('~') Below are 3 different calls of the code listed above. The first call using sudo is using the Macports version because my $PATH begins with /opt/local/bin: robert$ python2.6 expand_home_dir.py /Users/robert robert$ sudo python2.6 expand_home_dir.py /var/root robert$ /usr/bin/sudo python2.6 expand_home_dir.py /Users/robert Any idea why this is happening?

    I just installed boost 1.42.0 from macports using sudo port install boost. Everything worked fine. Now I have a project that I'm trying to build using a makefile. Everything builds fine until it comes to the file that needs the boost library. It says: src/graph.h:20:42: error: boost/graph/adjacency_list.hpp: No such file or directory That file is actually located in two places: /opt/local/include/boost/graph/adjacency_list.hpp and /opt/local/var/macports/software/boost/1.42.0_0/opt/local/include/boost/graph/adjacency_list.hpp In the file src/graph.h where it's looking for boost/graph/adjacency_list.hpp, the include statement is here: #include<boost/graph/adjacency_list.hpp> How do I make this work?

  • Makefile: finding include/lib for libraries installed through macports

    Libraries/include files installed by macports go in /opt/local/lib and /opt/local/include, neither of which are scanned by gcc/ld by default. As a result, a project I'm working on won't compile in that environment. Should this be fixed by manually adding -L/opt/local/lib to my Makefile's LDFLAGS (and -I... as well), or is there some configuration that should be done to fix this globally on the computer?

    I know I've had this problem before so I'm really frustrated. Why isn't it finding it? In Preferences Advanced Shell Variables my TM_RUBY is set to /opt/local/bin/ruby. I also tried the trick here: http://dnite.org/2007/8/28/textmate-and-your-environment-variables/ ... which didn't do anything.

  • MacPorts: violation of the ports-filesystem hierarchy in the destroot phase

    I'm in the process of developing a Portfile for my application and I'm running into problems during the destroot phase. According to the MacPorts guide, the destroot phase executes the following command: make install DESTDIR=${destroot} I think I may be misunderstanding how this is supposed to work in the Makefile. My application is very simple and the install rule only needs to copy a couple of directories to the DESTDIR so it is specified as follows: install: cp -R bin $(DESTDIR)/bin cp -R lib $(DESTDIR)/lib cp -R cfg $(DESTDIR)/cfg However, when I try to do a MacPort installation of my application, I get the following warnings: ---> Staging test into destroot Warning: violation by /bin Warning: violation by /lib Warning: violation by /cfg Warning: test violates the layout of the ports-filesystems! I don't install such software very frequently, but I've been using MacPorts and it always seems quite slow, presumably because it has to compile the packages on-the-fly. I'd much prefer a package management system that has binary packages, saving me the need to compile things every time I want to download something new. I think Fink has binaries for some of the packages, but I usually see MacPorts recommended as the system to use. Which do you think works better and why? (Or is there another system that I haven't heard of?)
