  • PHP memcached Fatal error: Class 'Memcache' not found

    - by jpfuentes2
I've pasted the example from php.net for using memcached in php and I'm getting: Fatal error: Class 'Memcache' not found I have this in my php.ini: [memcache] memcache.hash_strategy = "consistent" memcache.max_failover_attemps = 100 memcache.allow_failover = 1 Here's info from php -i and php -m respectively: php -i | grep -i memcache memcached memcached support = enabled libmemcached version = 0.37 Registered save handlers = files user sqlite memcached php -m | grep -i memcache memcached So php seems to have loaded memcached as a module, and php info says that it is loaded and is using v .37. I have not tried yet via apache, I've only been using this through cli right now. Any thoughts?

  • Better performance with memcached cluster or local memcaches?

    - by Nicholas Tolley Cottrell
I have a small cluster of servers balancing a Java web app. Currently I have 3 memcached servers caching data and all web apps shares all 3 memcached instances. I often get strange slowdowns and timeouts to some of the memcacheds and I wondering if there is a good way of analyzing the performance. I am wondering whether my iptables rules (or some other system limitation) are blocking/slowing connections. I am considering reconfiguring the web apps so that they only query the memcached process on their own localhost.

  • Memcached clustered alternative

    - by Johan Kooijman
I'm looking to replace memcached. We have a LOT of traffic to our central memcached node which I'd like to split. There's only so much trunking networks I can do. My general idea is to install a memcached-type daemon on every webserver and have the daemons replicate set/delete/updates over all the daemons, so that each webserver connects to a socket or on localhost. All data should be available on all nodes. The alternatives: - repcached (max 2 masters) - redis (single master) - couchdb/mongodb/handlersocket - persistent data on disk, I'd like to remove the disk part to gain more performance. Any hints?

  • What is the standard way to deploy memcached?

    - by Tom
I have two IIS servers and two MySQL servers. On all servers I have some available memory (More than a GB). What is the standard way to deploy memcached? Should I add a new server especially for memcached, or should I use my existing servers? If so, which servers? Thanks in advance

  • upgraded php to 5.3.19 and memcached stopped working

    - by Andrey
I have a server with centos 6.3 and cPanel After the upgrade from php 5.3.16 to php 5.3.19 my site stopped working. When I try to execute an index.php manually I'm receiving the following error. php: symbol lookup error: /usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/memcached.so: undefined symbol: memcached_last_error_errno Reinstalled memcached and memcache via pecl and manually but not helped. What is causing this problem and how to fix it ?

  • Is memcached pre-installed with Xcode on OS X?

    - by GeneQ
The answer seems to be yes, according to Apple's documentation. To make sure I'm not hallucinating, I checked Apple's developer tools documentation. Yes, memcached is supported and documented by Apple: Apple Developer Library : memcached(1) Apparently, memcached is installed with Xcode since at least 10.6 onwards. The reason I'm asking this is that on the Web and on SO there are lots people asking how to install memcached on OS X but curiously no one seems to mention that the easiest way to do so is to simply install Xcode via the AppStore (or using a DMG). All the answers given involves using homebrew or some other complicated way to install memcached from source. Is there any compelling reason why the Apple shipped memcached is not good enough? I don't see any advantages of compiling and installing memcached from source since there's an Apple supported version.

  • Monitoring memcached with plink

    - by kojiro
I need a telnet client that can take commands from a file or stdin so I can do some quick-and-dirty automatic monitoring of memcached. I thought plink would be good for this, but it seems to be doing something beyond what I need: If I telnet into localhost 11211 and write stats, I get the memcached stats, like so: $ telnet localhost 11211 Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost. Escape character is '^]'. stats STAT pid 25099 STAT uptime 91182 STAT time 1349191864 STAT version 1.4.5 STAT pointer_size 64 STAT rusage_user 3.570000 STAT rusage_system 2.740000 STAT curr_connections 5 STAT total_connections 23 STAT connection_structures 11 STAT cmd_get 0 STAT cmd_set 0 STAT cmd_flush 0 STAT get_hits 0 STAT get_misses 0 STAT delete_misses 0 STAT delete_hits 0 STAT incr_misses 0 STAT incr_hits 0 STAT decr_misses 0 STAT decr_hits 0 STAT cas_misses 0 STAT cas_hits 0 STAT cas_badval 0 STAT auth_cmds 0 STAT auth_errors 0 STAT bytes_read 82184 STAT bytes_written 7210 STAT limit_maxbytes 67108864 STAT accepting_conns 1 STAT listen_disabled_num 0 STAT threads 4 STAT conn_yields 0 STAT bytes 0 STAT curr_items 0 STAT total_items 0 STAT evictions 0 STAT reclaimed 0 END But with plink, I get an odd error. I'm using this command: watch -n 30 plink -v -telnet -P 11211 127.0.0.1 <<< $'\nstats' The first time through I get: Looking up host "127.0.0.1" Connecting to 127.0.0.1 port 11211 client: WILL NAWS client: WILL TSPEED client: WILL TTYPE client: WILL NEW_ENVIRON client: DO ECHO client: WILL SGA client: DO SGA ERROR STAT pid 25099 STAT uptime 91245 STAT time 1349191927 STAT version 1.4.5 … END But when watch repeats the command I just get: Looking up host "127.0.0.1" Connecting to 127.0.0.1 port 11211 client: WILL NAWS client: WILL TSPEED client: WILL TTYPE client: WILL NEW_ENVIRON client: DO ECHO client: WILL SGA client: DO SGA Failed to connect to 127.0.0.1: Connection reset by peer Connection reset by peer FATAL ERROR: Connection reset by peer What is plink doing here that is different from normal telnet? How should I be going about this? (I'm not married to plink, but I need a way to continuously send simple telnet commands to memcached without writing a full-fledged perl script.)

  • Deploying Memcached as 32bit or 64bit?

    - by rlotun
I'm curious about how people deploy memcached on 64 bit machines. Do you compile a 64bit (standard) memcached binary and run that, or do people compile it in 32bit mode and run N instances (where N = machine_RAM / 4GB)? Consider a recommended deployment of Redis (from the Redis FAQ): Redis uses a lot more memory when compiled for 64 bit target, especially if the dataset is composed of many small keys and values. Such a database will, for instance, consume 50 MB of RAM when compiled for the 32 bit target, and 80 MB for 64 bit! That's a big difference. You can run 32 bit Redis binaries in a 64 bit Linux and Mac OS X system without problems. For OS X just use make 32bit. For Linux instead, make sure you have libc6-dev-i386 installed, then use make 32bit if you are using the latest Git version. Instead for Redis <= 1.2.2 you have to edit the Makefile and replace "-arch i386" with "-m32". If your application is already able to perform application-level sharding, it is very advisable to run N instances of Redis 32bit against a big 64 bit Redis box (with more than 4GB of RAM) instead than a single 64 bit instance, as this is much more memory efficient. Would not the same recommendation also apply to a memcached cluster?

  • Memcached Lagging

    - by Brad Dwyer
    Let me preface this by saying that this is a followup question to this topic. That was "solved" by switching from Solaris (SmartOS) to Ubuntu for the memcached server. Now we've multiplied load by about 5x and are running into problems again. We are running a site that is doing about 1000 requests/minute, each request hits Memcached with approximately 3 reads and 1 write. So load is approximately 65 requests per second. Total data in the cache is about 37M, and each key contains a very small amount of data (a JSON-encoded array of integers amounting to less than 1K). We have setup a benchmarking script on these pages and fed the data into StatsD for logging. The problem is that there are spikes where Memcached takes a very long time to respond. These do not appear to correlate with spikes in traffic. What could be causing these spikes? Why would memcached take over a second to reply? We just booted up a second server to put in the pool and it didn't make any noticeable difference in the frequency or severity of the spikes. This is the output of getStats() on the servers: Array ( [-----------] => Array ( [pid] => 1364 [uptime] => 3715684 [threads] => 4 [time] => 1336596719 [pointer_size] => 64 [rusage_user_seconds] => 7924 [rusage_user_microseconds] => 170000 [rusage_system_seconds] => 187214 [rusage_system_microseconds] => 190000 [curr_items] => 12578 [total_items] => 53516300 [limit_maxbytes] => 943718400 [curr_connections] => 14 [total_connections] => 72550117 [connection_structures] => 165 [bytes] => 2616068 [cmd_get] => 450388258 [cmd_set] => 53493365 [get_hits] => 450388258 [get_misses] => 2244297 [evictions] => 0 [bytes_read] => 2138744916 [bytes_written] => 745275216 [version] => 1.4.2 ) [-----------:11211] => Array ( [pid] => 8099 [uptime] => 4687 [threads] => 4 [time] => 1336596719 [pointer_size] => 64 [rusage_user_seconds] => 7 [rusage_user_microseconds] => 170000 [rusage_system_seconds] => 290 [rusage_system_microseconds] => 990000 [curr_items] => 2384 [total_items] => 225964 [limit_maxbytes] => 943718400 [curr_connections] => 7 [total_connections] => 588097 [connection_structures] => 91 [bytes] => 562641 [cmd_get] => 1012562 [cmd_set] => 225778 [get_hits] => 1012562 [get_misses] => 125161 [evictions] => 0 [bytes_read] => 91270698 [bytes_written] => 350071516 [version] => 1.4.2 ) ) Edit: Here is the result of a set and retrieve of 10,000 values.   • Memcached broken pipe in rails

    - by abronte
I seem to run into some random broken pipe errors if I try to access memcached a specific way. When I try to access memcached via Rails.cache, the first one or two reads/writes will result in a "MemCacheError (Broken pipe): Broken pipe" and return nil. But if I access memcached through a new object (ActiveSupport::Cache::MemCacheStore.new) I don't get the broken pipe error at all. I've tried upgrading to memcached 1.4.4 (was previously using 1.2.2) and I still got the error. I'm using rails 2.3.5. I would prefer to access memcached through Rails.cache because I takes namespaces into account. Any ideas?

  • Approaches for memcached sessions

    - by Industrial
Hi everybody, I was thinking about using memcached to store sessions instead of mySQL, which seemed like a good idea, at first. When it comes to the failover part of utilizing memcached servers, It's a bit worrying that my sessions will stop working if the memcached would go offline. It will certainly affect my users. There's a few techniques that we already utilize to reduce failover, including having a pool of servers available to compensate in the event of downtime, utilizing sharding/consistent hashing across the server pool and so on. We would also do some sort of graceful degradation that tells the users that something have gone wrong and they are welcome to login again, in the event of them being kicked out due to memcached server failover. So how does people generally deal with these issues when storing sessions on memcached servers?

    - by Andre
hypothetically - if I have multiple memcached servers like this: //PHP $MEMCACHE_SERVERS = array( "10.1.1.1", //web1 "10.1.1.2", //web2 "10.1.1.3", //web3 ); $memcache = new Memcache(); foreach($MEMCACHE_SERVERS as $server){ $memcache->addServer ( $server ); } And then I set data like this: $huge_data_for_frong_page = 'some data blah blah blah'; $memcache->set("huge_data_for_frong_page", $huge_data_for_frong_page); And then I retrieve data like this: $huge_data_for_frong_page = $memcache->get("huge_data_for_frong_page"); When i would to retrieve this data from memcached servers - how would php memcached client know which server to query for this data? Or is memcached client going to query all memcached servers?

  • How to ask memcached auth connection by sasl and pam?

    - by user199216
I use memcached in a untrust network, so I try to use sasl and pam to auth connection to memcached. I installed sasl and pam module, compiled and installed memcached with sasl enabled. Also I created db and table for pam user. I run: $ sudo testsaslauthd -u tester -p abc123 -s /etc/pam.d/memcached 0: OK "Success." where the tester and abc123 is the authed user in db, which I inserted. But my python script cannot be authed, always authentication failed returned. It seems it dose not use pam to authentication, still use sasldb, because when I add user by: $ sudo saslpasswd2 -a memcached -c tester and input password: abc123, It can passed. Python script: client = bmemcached.Client(('localhost:11211'), 'tester', 'abc123') and error: bmemcached.exceptions.MemcachedException: Code: 32 Message: Auth failure. memcached log: authenticated() in cmd 0x21 is true mech: ``PLAIN'' with 14 bytes of data SASL (severity 2): Password verification failed sasl result code: -20 Unknown sasl response: -20 >30 Writing an error: Auth failure. >30 Writing bin response: no auth log found in: /var/log/auth.log Configurations: vi /etc/default/saslauthd MECHANISMS="pam" vi /etc/pam.d/memcached auth sufficient pam_mysql.so user=sasl passwd=abc123 host=localhost db=sasldb table=sasl_user usercolumn=user_name passwdcolumn=password crypt=0 sqllog=1 verbose=1 account required pam_mysql.so user=sasl passwd=abc123 host=localhost db=sasldb table=sasl_user usercolumn=user_name passwdcolumn=password crypt=0 sqllog=1 verbose=1 vi /etc/sasl2/memcached.conf pwcheck_method: saslauthd Do I make my question clear, english is not my native language, sorry! • Why doesn't apache2 consistently load template fragments from memcached?

    - by Hobhouse
I run a webserver on an ubuntu box in the rackspacecloud with django 1.0x, apache2/WSGI and memcached 1.2.2. Some of my templates make use of template fragment caching: {% load cache %} {% cache 604800 keyname %} <!-- cache: {% now "H:i, j. b" %} --> {{ my_content }} {% endcache %} When I reload apache2 everything is fine. If keyname is not set, my_content is generated and keyname is set in memcached. After that, my_content is served from memcached. My problem is that after some hours (notably less time than 604800 seconds ), apache2 seems to stop talking to memcached, and my_content is generated from scratch everytime. When this happens I can still set and get keys from memcached from my python shell. Memcached also has more than enough memory to store keys. But to get apache2 to start talking to memcached again I have to restart apache2, and then it will once again start to get the now several hours old keys from memcached. What can be the reason for this behaviour, and how do I fix it?

  • Increase memory to memcached

    - by Petrus
I need to increase the memory size for memcached. I have done this before, but I cannot remember all the steps that I took. If I remember correctly, I downloaded /etc/sysconfig/memcached and changed CACHESIZE=64 to CACHESIZE=1024. However I am not sure if that is how it is supposed to be done. Anyone that could guide me into how I do this? Also a command that confirms the change would be useful. I am running RedHat x86_64 es5.

  • Can't connect to memcached

    - by DMClark
We currently have memcached running on CentOS. None of our PHP applications can connect, have tried multiple applications trying to establish access. The most informative PHP error we get is: "Memcache::get() [function.Memcache-get]: Server 127.0.0.1 (tcp 11211) failed with: Permission denied (13) in /var/www/.." memcached 1.4.5 PECL 2.25 We can telnet and it works. IP tables is full access from lo to lo. We've tried this on two different servers with both compiled version and the rpm in CentOS 5.5 and get the same result. Is there anything fairly obvious that we are missing?

  • Configuring memcached for a particular scenario

    - by pradeepchhetri
I have a web application which queries opentsdb server(which in backend using Hbase cluster) for the datapoints of different metrics and using dygraph javascript graphing library, I am plotting those metrics. Since getting all the datapoints of past one day from opentsdb for a particular metric is itself taking nearly 2 seconds, my application which is plotting nearly 25 metrics is becoming very slow. In order to reduce this latency, I am thinking of using memcached module of php5 for caching all the queries. But I have few questions regarding memcached. Is there any way I can configure memcache to keep on updating its cache in the background by running some command line queries after particular interval of time. Is there any way I can configure memcache to always reply for a query using cache instead of first updating its cache because my application just plots datapoints for past one day. Missing out some datapoints is not that critical.

  • Prestashop is not saving Memcached settings

    - by ianenri
I have a issue with the admin site of prestashop. I'm trying to activate the caching system but it doesn't save the setting. When I add a server (I'm using an Amazon ElasticCache server) saves it, but when I select the enable option and click Save, it redirects me to "Back Office Preferences Performance" but with a blank page and the admin tabs visible. I go back to those settings again and i see that the caching option is disabled. Also, there is a warning: "To use Memcached, you must install the Memcache PECL extension on your server. http://www.php.net/manual/en/memcache.installation.php" , even if i already installed memcached via yum. I tried also, by modifying the settings.inc.php file editing define('_PS_CACHE_ENABLED_', '0'); to: define('_PS_CACHE_ENABLED_', '1'); But i get 500 Internal Server Error in every page, so i prefer to leave it as before. Any ideas? I'm using PrestaShop 1.4.6.2 with Nginx 1.0.11 and PHP-FPM 5.3.8 in a CentOS 5.7 system.

  • Routing PHP memcached calls to Oracle Coherence

    - by cj
A new post Getting Started with the Coherence Memcached Adaptor from David Felcey shows how PHP memcached calls can automatically be routed to store data in Oracle Coherence 12c. This is possible now Coherence 12.1.3 supports Memcached clients using the Binary Memcached protocol. David's post shows how the Coherence Memcached adaptor can be configured as a proxy service that runs in the Coherence cluster. There's nothing particular to configure in the PHP application, except to enable memcached.use_sasl = 1 So what is Coherence? It is an "in-memory data grid solution", with a number of advanced features. You can read more in the Oracle Coherence 12C Data Sheet.

  • Memcached for PHP 5.3

Hi everyone, I have looked everywhere for some clues on how to run the Memcached extension in my WAMP windows development environment (thats right, the memcached with an D in the end, not memcache). I already use memcache (without the D), but it would be handy to take part of memcached's more extended multiple-server features. How can I get this up and running? Thanks
