  • How to access this server?

    I have a server that I cannot access. At first I thought it was just some temporary failure with the server, but checking from other IP addresses reveals that it is working just fine. It's only my IP address that's failing. So here is what I've tried: nslookup - resolves correctly ping - 100% packet loss using the IP address or domain traceroute - first few hops work, but from about 6 and on, I just get stars Edit: I am using OpenDNS for DNS resolution, and as mentioned above, the problem is not DNS resolution anyway.

  • Website domain expired. Can i access it somehow? [closed]

    I need to access a website whose domain apparently expired yesterday (i'm not the owner, and i can't really do much about it). It will probably be reopened any time soon, but meanwhile i would still be interested in accessing it Is there any way for me to access any kind of information? The website is http://enei.net So far i've tried: nslookup, but the ip address i got (208.91.197.101) was a dead end. I suppose this is related to what happened to the domain after it expired google cache, which led to some weird advertising page, completely unrelated to the original website

  • Windows 2008 R2 DNS cant resolve own SOA

    We have two Domain Controllers for our network. They both run DHCP, DNS, and ADS. They are both VM's sitting on MS Hyper V Server 2008 on separate physical hosts. We had our primary DC go down a week ago. I upgraded an already existing VM to Primary DC and built a new VM for the secondary. Both DNS servers are running and the SOA is configured correctly for Primary DC 1. However when I run the best practice analyzer it states the server cannot resolve it's own SOA. Check the configuration in the adapter. I checked and they are configured properly. I also went through the DNS entries thoroughly and made sure there was no records of the previous DC that went down. NSLOOKUP resolves the domain and primary dc fine. I also checked the firewalls on the machines and our physical firewall for any deny packets. Any suggestions? I appreciate any help!

  • Strange DNS issue with internal Windows DNS

    I've encountered a strange issue with our internal Windows DNS infrastructure. We have a website hosted on Amazon EC2 with the DNS running on Amazon Route 53. In the publicly facing DNS we have the wildcard record setup as an A record Alias pointing to an AWS Elastic Load Balancer sitting in front of our EC2 instances. For those who are not aware, the A record Alias behaves like a CNAME record, however no extra lookup is required on the client side (See http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/Route53/latest/DeveloperGuide/CreatingAliasRRSets.html for more information). We have a secondary domain that has the www subdomain as a CNAME pointing to a subdomain on the primary domain, which resolves against the wildcard entry. For example the subdomain www.secondary.com is a CNAME to sub1.primary.com, but there is no explicit entry for sub1.primary.com, so it resolves to wildcard record. This setup work without issue publicly. The issue comes in our internal DNS at our corporate office where we use the same primary domain for some internal only facing sites. In this setup we have two Active Directory DNS servers with one Server 2003 and one Server 2008 R2 instance. The zone is an AD integrated zone, but it is not the AD domain. In the internal DNS we have the wildcard record pointing to a third external domain, that is also hosted on Route 53 with an A record Alias pointing to the same ELB instance. For example, *.primary.com is a CNAME to tertiary.com, so in effect you have www.secondary.com as a CNAME to *.primary.com, which is a CNAME to tertiary.com. In this setup, attempting to resolve www.secondary.com will fail. Clearing the cache on the Server 2003 instance will allow it to resolve once, but subsequent attempts will fail. It fails even with a clean cache against the 2008 R2 server. It seems that only Windows clients are affected. A Mac running OSX Mountain Lion does not experience this issue. I'm even able to replicate the issue using nslookup. Against the 2003 server, with a freshly cleaned cache, I recieve the appropriate response from www.secondary.com: Non-authoritative answer: Name: subdomain.primary.com Address: x.x.x.x (Public IP) Aliases: www.secondary.com Subsequent checks simply return: Non-authoritative answer: Name: www.secondary.com If you set the type to CNAME you get the appropriate responses all the time. www.secondary.com gives you: Non-authoritative answer: www.secondary.com canonical name = subdomain.primary.com And subdomain.primary.com gives you: subdomain.primary.com canonical name = tertiary.com And setting type back to A gives you the appropriate response for tertiary.com: Non-authoritative answer: Name: tertiary.com Address: x.x.x.x (Public IP) Against the 2008 R2 server things are a little different. Even with a clean cache, www.secondary.com returns just: Non-authoritative answer: Name: www.secondary.com The CNAME records are returned appropriately. www.secondary.com returns: Non-authoritative answer: www.secondary.com canonical name = subdomain.primary.com And subdomain.primary.com gives you: subdomain.primary.com canonical name = tertiary.com tertiary.com internet address = x.x.x.x (Public IP) tertiary.com AAAA IPv6 address = x::x (Public IPv6) And setting type back to A gives you the appropriate response for tertiary.com: Non-authoritative answer: Name: tertiary.com Address: x.x.x.x (Public IP) Requests directly against subdomain.primary.com work correctly.

    Using Jeff's blog post I'm creating domain keys for my account. I wanted to verify the setup using Get or Host command with Bind for Windows but I'm lost one of the commands. I can see view the _domainkey. txt file with this command: host -t txt _domainkey.stackoverflow.com but I'm at a loss at how I'd find the selector record. Jeff points out it can be anything before the before the period in "._domainkey.domain.com" but how would I list all records if I didn't know the exact query name? Is there a wildcard I could use to view all TXT or all records under this section?

    In a script I want to be able to write an IP address to somewhere easily, so I thought using dig (or a similar command) with back-ticks. However the simplest output I've been able to come up to wrt dig parameters is > dig -t A +noall +answer www.google.com www.google.com. 300 IN A 173.194.66.106 www.google.com. 300 IN A 173.194.66.104 Any way (extra arg, different tool instead of dig?) to get rid of the junk apart from the IP address?? (And please don't tell me to use sed.) Thanks

  • Why do Ping and Dig provide different IP address than nslookup?

    When pinging my domain name which points to my home public IP from two different servers on my LAN, it shows them pinging different IP. Further investigation shows dig and nslookup providing different results. See below. A little history. My IP used to be 11.22.33.444 and is hosted by Comcast. I changed routers, and it somehow got changed to 55.66.77.888. I've since updated my 1and1 domain name to point to the 55.66.77.888. desktop is a basic server, runs the web server, and connects wirelessly to my LAN. laptop is a GUI and connected via CAT5. Both operate Centos6.4. My old router was a D-Link, and used their "Virtual Server" feature to pass port 80 to desktop. My new router is a Linksys, and I use their "Port Forwarding" feature to pass port 80 to desktop (however, I haven't gotten this part working yet). What is going on??? Why the different IPs? Obviously, it most somehow be stored on the server, but why does the actual machine even know the public IP since it is on a LAN? How do I purge the old IP?     Hi, My question is regarding the host name mapped to a machine's IP. I am new to Linux, I have a machine to test whether our j2ee based web application runs fine in linux box. we are able to deploy our application and successfully and even able to access the same in that machine. But when I tried accessing it through another machine in the same network, I am not able to access the URL using the hostname specified, instead I am able to access if I provide the ipaddress. I tried putting nslookup MyIP# command to know the name of the ip in the DNS server, where I got some junk value.com; when I tried to access with that name I am able to access the machine. Kindly provide me inputs to change the hostname of this machine in that domain server. Thanks in Advance!! Jay

  • [CentOS 4.8] nslookup resolves domains to IPs, but I can't get a response to pings to external servers

    I have a fresh install of CentOS 4.8 running on an internal development server. I haven't done anything to it besides setting up sudoers and SSH. I can SSH into the server and from there resolve domains to IPs and ping internal servers, but for some reason I don't get any response from pinging external servers. The software firewall is disabled, and the problem is present with both static and DHCP-assigned network configurations. The network domain controller is a Windows Server 2003 box. $ nslookup google.com Server: 10.254.2.5 Address: 10.254.2.5#53 Non-authoritative answer: Name: google.com Address: 74.125.47.147 Name: google.com Address: 74.125.47.99 <etc...> 10.254.2.5 is the Win2K3 server. $ ping google.com PING google.com (74.125.47.106) 56(84) bytes of data.     Contrary to this SO question this is for a dotted name (gw.localnet.au), and it doesn't happen straight away. Only after some period of time (quite a long time, possibly days). In fact this is for my ADSL router and its internal IP address which I have named within the router itself and in my Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller DNS Service. Specifically, localnet.au is a Active-Directory-backed primary domain. In fact, an ipconfig /flushdns may fix the problem, but only after a while (about the time it took me to type in this question :-) ). That doesn't explain the root cause though...   • Cisco IOS BVI ACL: Only allow established UDP

    Related: Cisco IOS ACL: Don't permit incoming connections just because they are from port 80 I know we can use the established keyword for TCP.. but what can we do for UDP (short of replacing a Bridge or BVI with a NAT)? Answer I found out what "UDP has no connection" means. DNS uses UDP for example.. named (DNS server) is lisenting on port 53 nslookup (DNS client) starts listening on some random port and sends a packet to port 53 of the server and notes the source port in that packet. nslookup will retry 3 times if necessary. Also the packets are so small that it does not have to worry about them coming in the wrong order. If nslookup receives a response on that port that comes from the servers IP and port then it stops listening. If the server tried to send two responses (for example a response and a response to the retry) then the server would not care if either of them made it because the client has the job to retry. In fact.. unless ICMP 3/3 packet gets through the server would not know about a failure. This is different from TCP where you get connection closed or timed out errors. DNS allows for an easy retry from the client as well as small packets.. so UDP is an excellent choice because it is more efficient. In UDP you would see nslookup sends request named sends answer In TCP you would see nslookup's machine sends SYN named's machine sends SYN-ACK nslookup's machine sends ACK and the request named's machine sends the response That is much more than is necessary for a tiny DNS packet

  • Cannot access certain URL on my wireless

    Problem: On my wireless network at home, there is one URL that I just cannot access with my browser: http://research.microsoft.com/ I have no problems with the Internet connection otherwise. But on that address I just get The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. from Firefox. I am using a DSL modem (Westell) and Linksys wireless router (using DHCP). When I use my neighbor's wireless connection I can access the microsoft site without a problem. Additional technical details: But with my connection, here is what I get from nslookup.   • OpenWRT based gateway with dnsmasq and internal server with bind

    I have router based on OpenWRT which has dnsmasq 2.59. Inside my local area network I have a NS server bind. This server has internal and external views for a couple of my domains. My router forwards port 53 TCP and UDP from outside IP (router WAN) to this server. For the external clients everything works fine. In order to organize the internal view, I decided to add the exception to /etc/dnsmasq.conf server=/mydomain1.com/192.168.1.1 server=/mydomain2.com/192.168.1.1 server=/mydomain3.com/192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1 - IP address of the NS server) According to dnsmasq manstrong text: More specific domains take precendence over less specific domains, so: --server=/google.com/1.2.3.4 --server=/www.google.com/2.3.4.5 will send queries for *.google.com to 1.2.3.4, except *www.google.com, which will go to 2.3.4.5 this domain name with all the sub-domains is supposed to be forward to my NS server.   • vmware vcenter 5.1 installation with FQDN error

    I'm trying to install vCenter 5.1 on a windows 2012 dedicated (with SQL express standalone) During the installation of the Single Sign On module i've a warning "the fully qualified domain name cannot be resolved with nslookup. if you continue the installation some features might not work correctly. for detailed requiments see the installation and setup guide" The only indication that i've found are about the reverse zone dns resolution.. and this works! i've verified that the dns works properly with nslookup C:\Users\admin>nslookup srv6.mydomain.local Server: srv2.mydomain.local Address: 172.25.4.22 Nome: srv6.mydomain.local Address: 172.25.1.26 C:\Users\admin>nslookup 172.25.1.26 Server: srv2.mydomain.local Address: 172.25.4.22 Nome: srv6.mydomain.local Address: 172.25.1.26 (all ip are right: I've the vCenter=srv6 and DC+DNS=srv2 on different vlan) i've tryed to force the resolution of the ip changing the [..]\drivers\etc\hosts file i've disabled the IPv6 support i've used all combination with domain prefixes (explicit, by dhcp, undefined..) i've disabled all antivirus/firewall (kaspersky end point 10) is this a bug of vcenter 5.1.0-1065152 ? have you got any suggestions for me?

  • DNS lookup fails when with all the MAC workstations

    Hi, I am having this insane problem. We are mac-heavy users. Around 10 workstations, one Xserve server, two windows workstation and one Linux (me). Last year I added an A record to our domain's DNS. However we had to change that a few months ago to a new IP. But all the Mac workstations fail to resolve the proper DNS and they still resolve to the old IP, even after 2 months. On both the windows workstation and my linux box a simple nslookup resolves to proper IP. However, on ALL the mac workstation, dig and nslookup report the old IP address. From my linux workstation: jp@lo:~$ nslookup - 208.67.222.222 client.xyz.com Server: 208.67.222.222 Address: 208.67.222.222#53 Non-authoritative answer: Name: client.xyz.com Address: 68.71.40.xx But when I am trying the exact same command from any Mac workstation, I get the old IP: $ nslookup - 208.67.222.222 client.xyz.com Server: 208.67.222.222 Address: 208.67.222.222#53 Non-authoritative answer: Name: client.xyz.com Address: 98.143.155.xx The strange thing is that this only happens in our internal network. No problem from home nor from another server. I did try to flush the DNS, don't worry. It did not help. I am starting to wonder if my router (OpenWRT) or Mac OS X Server is not in some way spoofing the DNS request and thus acting as a cache. Any suggestions/comments would be grateful. Thank you, JP

  • DNS query appending parent suffix twice

    We're having an issue with DNS clients not being able to resolve certain FQDNs. Within the same domain in which the problem occurs, doing an nslookup against a host name works. However, an nslookup against the hostname.domain.parentdomain1.parentdomain2.net doesn't work. Weird, from outside that domain, the same FQDN query works. Clients in both domains are using the same DNS servers, which are in the "parentdomain1" example. The nslookup comes back with: Non-authoritative answer: Name: hostname.domain.parentdomain1.parentdomain2.net.parentdomain2.net Address: 209.62.20.188 So, the client is appending the "parentdomain2.net" twice. Would appreciate any assistance.

    I'm trying to reverse map a block of IP using PTR record to some special name so their usage can be easily reflected by a simple nslookup. And I learned that I can add PTR record for a /24 block by using $GENERATE directive $GENERATE 0-254 $.201.17.172 PTR for.internal.use.only. So here's the question: Am I doing right exposing infomation of IP address by adding PTR record? Any better idea? If the question above is YES, then how to add PTR record for a /16 IP range? I know I can write 255 lines of $GENTERATE directive but any better solution?

    How will I find out my iseries server name? I checked through "nslookup" it gives one ip address & I tried to connect TN5250 session to cconnect but could not connect. from dos command line c:\nslookup default server : unknown ip address : 192.168.50.119 Then I tried ping with this IP address - it's giving reply from the above IP address Then I have given this id in TN5250 session, but says can not create a connection to the AS/400.

  • Does AWS resolve same-datacenter hostnames to 10.* addresses for different customer accounts?

    If I bring up two Amazon EC2 instances and run nslookup on one for the other's hostname, amazon will return a 10.* address. This is routable within amazon, and works just fine. But does this work between different accounts? If I use one of my nodes to nslookup a hostname belonging to another customer (but still in the same datacenter) will it resolve as a 10.* address or will it give the standard public IP?

  • Connect Linux machine to a windows active directory

    Hi, I have a Linux machine which connected to an Active Directory on Windows server. I configured the NIC to get an IP from the DHCP (from the windows server) however, when I try to get nslookup on the Linux side it doesn't work (connection timeout), but on the same machine when I load windows and do nslookup it works. what can be wrong with my Linux configuration or Windows DNS configuration? note: I've configured my DNS to nonsecure and secure connections. 10x!
