  • how to use JComboBox using Enum in Dialog Box

    - by Edan
    Hi, I define enums: enum itemType {First, Second, Third}; public class Item { private itemType enmItemType; ... } How do I use it inside Dialog box using JComboBox? Means, inside the dialog box, the user will have combo box with (First, Second, Third). Also, is it better to use some sort of ID to each numerator? (Integer) thanks.

  • C++ program to calculate large factorials

    - by xbonez
    How can I write a c++ program to calculate large factorials. Example, if I want to calculate (100!) / (99!), we know the answer is 100, but if i calculate the factorials of the numerator and denominator individually, both the numbers are gigantically large.

  • controlling the class names generated by JAXB for xsd:attributeGroup?

    - by Stephen Winnall
    I am using JAXB to bind XML to Java for an application that I am writing. I have an element called measure which contains two amount elements called amount and maxAmount, with which I want to model a lower and an upper limiting value. amount and maxAmount are otherwise identical and I would like them to be implemented with the same class when unmarshalled into Java. The following is an extract from the XML schema which I feed to JAXB: <xsd:attributeGroup name="AmountAttributes"> <xsd:attribute name="quantity" type="xsd:decimal"/> <xsd:attribute name="numerator" type="xsd:nonNegativeInteger"/> <xsd:attribute name="denominator" type="xsd:positiveInteger"/> </xsd:attributeGroup> <xsd:element name="measure"> <xsd:complexType> <xsd:sequence> <xsd:element minOccurs="0" name="amount"> <xsd:complexType> <xsd:attributeGroup ref="mpr:AmountAttributes"/> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:element> <xsd:element minOccurs="0" name="maxAmount"> <xsd:complexType> <xsd:attributeGroup ref="mpr:AmountAttributes"/> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:element> </xsd:sequence> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:element> JAXB creates from this a more elaborate version of the following: public class Measure { protected Measure.Amount amount; protected Measure.MaxAmount maxAmount; public static class Measure.Amount {} public static class Measure.MaxAmount {} } Measure.Amount and Measure.MaxAmount are identical except for their names, but - of course - as far as Java is concerned they have little to do with each other. Is there a way of making JAXB use the same class for both amount and maxAmount? Just to come completely clean ;-) I should mention that I generate the XML schema from RNC using Trang. If the answer to the question is "change the XML schema", I have the supplementary question "how do I change the RNC to produce that XML schema?". My RNC looks like this: AmountAttributes = QuantityAttribute? & attribute numerator { xsd:nonNegativeInteger }? & attribute denominator { xsd:positiveInteger }? QuantityAttribute = attribute quantity { xsd:decimal } Measure = element measure { element amount { AmountAttributes }?, element maxAmount { AmountAttributes }? }+ I use RNC because I find it simpler to understand, but if the solution to my problem means just using XML Schema, so be it. • Can we increase Torrent share ratio using Local Peer Discovery?

    - by Jagira
    I just want to know whether this is a flaw or not in Bittorrent system. Let us assume that I am member of a Private Torrent site which requires me to maintain a specific upload to download ratio. Will this work: I create a torrent of a large file say [ Fedora Linux ~ 4 GB ] and upload it to the tracker I download the same torrent using my ID and start it on another machine on LAN or a Virtual machine Both clients have Local Peer Discovery enabled, so they will find 'em [ not via DHT ] and start x'ferring data using LAN bandwidth at LAN speeds. Though both uploads and downloads will increase, my ratio will also increase If I reiterate the entire process 'n' times, the numerator in the "RATIO" i.e Upload will become so large that the effect of downloads on ratio will become less. I want to know whether this is legitimate???

  • Is there any reason to throw a DivideByZeroException?

    - by Atomiton
    Are there any cases when it's a good idea to throw errors that can be avoided? I'm thinking specifically of the DivideByZeroException and NullReferenceException For example: double numerator = 10; double denominator = getDenominatorFromUser(); if( denominator == 0 ){ throw new DivideByZeroException("You can't divide by Zero!"); } Are there any reasons for throwing an error like this? NOTE: I'm not talking about catching these errors, but specifically in knowing if there are ever good reasons for throwing them.

  • Retrieve names by ratio of their occurance

    - by jjiffer
    Hello, I'm somewhat new to SQL queries, and I'm struggling with this particular problem. Let's say I have query that returns the following 3 records (kept to one column for simplicity): Tom Jack Tom And I want to have those results grouped by the name and also include the fraction (ratio) of the occurrence of that name out of the total records returned. So, the desired result would be (as two columns): Tom | 2/3 Jack | 1/3 How would I go about it? Determining the numerator is pretty easy (I can just use COUNT() and GROUP BY name), but I'm having trouble translating that into a ratio out of the total rows returned. Any help is much appreciated!

  • Implement a simple class in your favorite language.

    - by Oscar Reyes
    I'm doing this to learn syntax of different programming languages. So, how would you defined the following class along with with it's operations in your favorite programming language? Image generated by http://yuml.me/ And a main method or equivalent to invoke it: For instance, for Java it would be: ... public static void main( String [] args ) { Fraction f = new Fraction(); f.numerator( 2 ); f.denominator( 5 ); f.print(); } ....

  • Silverlight 4 Binding to ConverterParameter

    - by FrEEzE2046
    Hello everybody, I have a ValueConverter which needs to be called with a dynamic parameter, depending on a property. I can't see a way to do this ... Width="{Binding ActualWidthValue, Source={StaticResource VisibleSize}, Converter={StaticResource Fraction}}" The "Fraction" converter get's (or should get) a parameter of type System.Size, which contains a numerator and denumerator. This value (should) depend on a ItemCollection.Count. Resetting the ItemCollection should reinvoke the Converter with the new values. My first idea was to manually change the ConverterParameter in CodeBehind on the PropertyChanged event of my ItemCollection DependencyProperty. But, as I know now, Silverlight has no GetBinding() method. I heard about GetBindingExpression and tried to do. But MyGrid.GetBindingExpression(Grid.ActualHeightProperty) is always returning null, although the Binding is already established. So, what can I do to reach my target?

  • Want to learn Objective-C but syntax is very confusing

    - by Sahat
    Coming from Java background I am guessing this is expected. I would really love to learn Objective-C and start developing Mac apps, but the syntax is just killing me. For example: -(void) setNumerator: (int) n { numerator = n; } What is that dash for and why is followed by void in parenthesis? I've never seen void in parenthesis in C/C++, Java or C#. Why don't we have a semicolon after (int) n? But we do have it here: -(void) setNumerator: (int) n; And what's with this alloc, init, release process? myFraction = [Fraction alloc]; myFraction = [myFraction init]; [myFraction release]; And why is it [myFraction release]; and not myFraction = [myFraction release]; ? And lastly what's with the @ signs and what's this implementation equivalent in Java? @implementation Fraction @end I am currently reading Programming in Objective C 2.0 and it's just so frustrating learning this new syntax for someone in Java background.

  • Rails - Scalable calculation model

    - by H O
    I currently have a calculation structure in my rails app that has models metric, operand and operation_type. Presently, the metric model has many operands, and can perform calculations based on the operation_type (e.g. sum, multiply, etc.), and each operand is defined as being right or left (i.e. so that if the operation is division, the numerator and denominator can be identified). Presently, an operand is always an attribute of some model, e.g. @customer.sales.selling_price.sum. In order to make this scalable, in need to allow an operand to be either an attribute of some kind, or the results of a previous operation, i.e. an operand can be a metric. I have included a diagram of how my models currently look: Can anyone assist me with the most elegant way of allowing an operand to be an actual operand, or another metric? Thanks! EDIT: It seems based on the only answer so far that perhaps polymorphic associations are the way to go on this, but the answer is so brief I have no idea how they could be used in this way - can anyone elaborate? EDIT 2: OK, I think I'm getting somewhere - essentially i presently have a metric, which has_many operands, and an operand has_many metrics. I need a polymorphic self join, where a metric can also have many metrics - do I need to call this something else, perhaps calculated_metrics, so that the metric model can use itself? That would leave me with a situation where a metric has_many operands, and a metric has many calculated_metrics.

  • Calling a class method within a method definition in the same class

    - by user1786288
    So I'm writing a program for an intro Java class. I'm defining a method to add two fractions together within the class Fraction. Fraction has 2 variables, numerator and denominator. Each of these variables has a setter and a getter. Anyway, I have a problem with my addition method, which is shown below. I've just sort of tried to implement it in a way that made sense, but I'm sure I did something with calling methods/using objects that doesn't work. public void add(Fraction fraction1, Fraction fraction2) { Fraction fraction3 = new Fraction(); int a = fraction1.getNumerator; int b = fraction1.getDenominator; int c = fraction2.getNumerator; int d = fraction2.getDenominator; fraction3.setNumerator((a * d) + (b * c)); fraction3.setDenominator(b * d); } I don't know if the problem is in the method definition, if I can use the object type that way, or if there's something else wrong. any help would be appreciated, and if I need to provide any information, I'll do so ASAP.

  • Why does calling CreateDXGIFactory prevent my program from exiting?

    - by smoth190
    I'm using CreateDXGIFactory to get the graphics adapters and display modes. When I call it, it works fine and I get all the data. However, when I exit my program, the main Win32 thread exits, but something stays open because it keeps debugging. Does CreateDXGIFactory create an extra thread and I'm not closing it? I don't understand. The only thing I would suspect is that in the documentation it says it doesn't work if it's called from DllMain. It is in a DLL, but it's not called from DllMain. And it doesn't fail, either. I'm using DirectX 11. Here is the function that initializes DirectX. I haven't gotten past retrieving the refresh rate because of this problem. I commented everything out to pinpoint the problem. bool CGraphicsManager::InitDirectX(HWND hWnd, int width, int height) { HRESULT result; IDXGIFactory* factory; IDXGIOutput* output; IDXGIAdapter* adapter; DXGI_MODE_DESC* displayModes; DXGI_ADAPTER_DESC adapterDesc; unsigned int modeCount = 0; unsigned int refreshNum = 0; unsigned int refreshDen = 0; //First, we need to get the monitors refresh rater result = CreateDXGIFactory(__uuidof(IDXGIFactory), (void**)&factory); //if(FAILED(result)) //{ //MemoryUtil::MessageBoxError(TEXT("InitDirectX"), 0, 0, TEXT("Failed to create DXGI factory\nError:\n%s"), DXGetErrorDescription(result)); //return false; //} /*//Create a graphics card adapter result = factory->EnumAdapters(0, &adapter); if(FAILED(result)) { MemoryUtil::MessageBoxError(TEXT("InitDirectX"), 0, 0, TEXT("Failed to get graphics adapters\nError:\n%s"), DXGetErrorDescription(result)); return false; } //Get the output result = adapter->EnumOutputs(0, &output); if(FAILED(result)) { MemoryUtil::MessageBoxError(TEXT("InitDirectX"), 0, 0, TEXT("Failed to get adapter output\nError:\n%s"), DXGetErrorDescription(result)); return false; } //Get the modes result = output->GetDisplayModeList(DXGI_FORMAT_R8G8B8A8_UNORM, DXGI_ENUM_MODES_INTERLACED, &modeCount, 0); if(FAILED(result)) { MemoryUtil::MessageBoxError(TEXT("InitDirectX"), 0, 0, TEXT("Failed to get mode count\nError:\n%s"), DXGetErrorDescription(result)); return false; } displayModes = new DXGI_MODE_DESC[modeCount]; result = output->GetDisplayModeList(DXGI_FORMAT_R8G8B8A8_UNORM, DXGI_ENUM_MODES_INTERLACED, &modeCount, displayModes); if(FAILED(result)) { MemoryUtil::MessageBoxError(TEXT("InitDirectX"), 0, 0, TEXT("Failed to get display modes\nError:\n%s"), DXGetErrorDescription(result)); return false; } //Now we need to find one for our screen size for(unsigned int i = 0; i < modeCount; i++) { if(displayModes[i].Width == (unsigned int)width) { if(displayModes[i].Height == (unsigned int)height) { refreshNum = displayModes[i].RefreshRate.Numerator; refreshDen = displayModes[i].RefreshRate.Denominator; break; } } } //Store the video card data result = adapter->GetDesc(&adapterDesc); if(FAILED(result)) { MemoryUtil::MessageBoxError(TEXT("InitDirectX"), 0, 0, TEXT("Failed to get adapter description\nError:\n%s"), DXGetErrorDescription(result)); return false; } m_videoCard = new CVideoCard(); MemoryUtil::CreateGameObject(m_videoCard); m_videoCard->VideoCardMemory = (unsigned int)(adapterDesc.DedicatedVideoMemory); wcstombs_s(0, m_videoCard->VideoCardDescription, 128, adapterDesc.Description, 128);*/ //ReleaseCOM(output); //ReleaseCOM(adapter); ReleaseCOM(factory); //DeletePointerArray(displayModes); return true; } Also, I don't know if this means anything, but this is some of the output log when the function is commented out: //...   • Reducing Integer Fractions Algorithm - Solution Explanation?

    - by Andrew Tomazos - Fathomling
    This is a followup to this problem: Reducing Integer Fractions Algorithm Following is a solution to the problem from a grandmaster: #include <cstdio> #include <algorithm> #include <functional> using namespace std; const int MAXN = 100100; const int MAXP = 10001000; int p[MAXP]; void init() { for (int i = 2; i < MAXP; ++i) { if (p[i] == 0) { for (int j = i; j < MAXP; j += i) { p[j] = i; } } } } void f(int n, vector<int>& a, vector<int>& x) { a.resize(n); vector<int>(MAXP, 0).swap(x); for (int i = 0; i < n; ++i) { scanf("%d", &a[i]); for (int j = a[i]; j > 1; j /= p[j]) { ++x[p[j]]; } } } void g(const vector<int>& v, vector<int> w) { for (int i: v) { for (int j = i; j > 1; j /= p[j]) { if (w[p[j]] > 0) { --w[p[j]]; i /= p[j]; } } printf("%d ", i); } puts(""); } int main() { int n, m; vector<int> a, b, x, y, z; init(); scanf("%d%d", &n, &m); f(n, a, x); f(m, b, y); printf("%d %d\n", n, m); transform(x.begin(), x.end(), y.begin(), insert_iterator<vector<int> >(z, z.end()), [](int a, int b) { return min(a, b); }); g(a, z); g(b, z); return 0; } It isn't clear to me how it works. Can anyone explain it? The equivilance is as follows: a is the numerator vector of length n b is the denominator vector of length m

  • Long numbers. Division.

    - by user577395
    Hello, world! I have a problem. Today I tried to create a code, which finds Catalan number. But in my program can be long numbers. I found numerator and denominator. But i can't div long numbers! Also, only standard libraries was must use in this program. Help me please. This is my code #include <vector> #include <iostream> using namespace std; int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { const int base = 1000*1000*1000; vector <int> a, b; int n, carry = 0; cin>>n; a.push_back(n); for (int ii=n+2; ii!=(2*n)+1;++ii) { carry = 0; for (size_t i=0; i<a.size() || carry; ++i) { if (i == a.size()) a.push_back (0); long long cur = carry + a[i] * 1ll * ii; a[i] = int (cur % base); carry = int (cur / base); } } while (a.size() > 1 && a.back() == 0) a.pop_back(); b.push_back(n); for (int ii=1; ii!=n+1;++ii) { carry = 0; for (size_t i=0; i<b.size() || carry; ++i) { if (i == b.size()) b.push_back (0); long long cur = carry + b[i] * 1ll * ii; b[i] = int (cur % base); carry = int (cur / base); } } while (b.size() > 1 && b.back() == 0) b.pop_back(); cout<<(a.empty() ? 0 : a.back()); for (int i=(int)a.size()-2; i>=0; --i) cout<<(a[i]); cout<<" "; cout<<(b.empty() ? 0 : b.back()); for (int i=(int)b.size()-2; i>=0; --i) cout<<(b[i]); //system("PAUSE"); cout<<endl; return 0; } P.S.   • Test of procedure is fine but when called from a menu gives uninitialized errors. C

    - by Delfic
    The language is portuguese, but I think you get the picture. My main calls only the menu function (the function in comment is the test which works). In the menu i introduce the option 1 which calls the same function. But there's something wrong. If i test it solely on the input: (1/1)x^2 //it reads the polinomyal (2/1) //reads the rational and returns 4 (you can guess what it does, calculates the value of an instace of x over a rational) My polinomyals are linear linked lists with a coeficient (rational) and a degree (int) int main () { menu_interactivo (); // instanciacao (); return 0; } void menu_interactivo(void) { int i; do{ printf("1.
