  • Opera's problem with magnet-links

    I've encountered following problem while using Opera web browser: When I click on a magnet link on some web page like magnet:?xt=urn:tree:tiger:CXW6MJFRNOEFU2STCBWWOIYZLVCR2FTR37SQCXY&xl=352342016&dn=ER%20-%207x16%20-%20Witch%20Hunt.avi Opera is asking me if I want to open that link with my DC++ client. If I click 'Yes' button then my DC++ client is correctly "opening" the clicked magnet link and performing some action on it. There is also an option "Do not show this dialog again" in Opera's dialog, but it doesn't seem to be working correctly. If I check that option before answering 'Yes' and then click on other magnet link of the same kind the Opera will again ask me about how to open new link. I haven't found protocol association in 'Control Panel Default Programs Set Associations' part of my Windows Vista settings, but if I paste magnet link in "Run" dialog then Vista will handle that link perfectly. I've tried to find out how to manually set protocol association in Opera and found 'Programs' page of browser's advanced settings. There I discovered that instead of storing protocol to application associations Opera tries to store per-link associations (There are several entries with exact links as they was on web page as value of protocol field). If I click on the links which are already stored in Opera's protocols associations browser will ask me about them again. I haven't found any information on how to resolve this problem on the internet, maybe someone on this site will be able to help me.

  • Opera: closed window w/many tabs, window still open w/one tab, how to retrieve the many tabs

    This is a little recipe for a little disaster: accidentally close a window with many important tabs open, only to find out that another window is still active with one tab open. Closing it will overwrite the saved tabs of the other window, which I want to recover. I need to recover the window with "many tabs" if possible,I didn't yet close the window with the one tab open, hopefully that prevents overwriting the saved settings. How do I retrieve, now that Opera is still active, the tabs of the closed window? I.e., where would Opera normally store these tabs when it closes a window? Can I prevent it from overwriting the saved state of "many tabs" with the current "one tab"?

  • Where to find other versions of Opera browser as deb packages?

    I used Opera mainly for the Unite feature now to be abandoned. It is missing in v. 12. Some say its features will re-emerge in future extensions etc. Until then, Unite is still accessible in v. 11. Where do I get the v.11 deb? P.S. In fact it seems that opera unite (at least in its older form) is dying while I am editing this question. Access to opera-unite applications from within opera-unite is poor or absent. This issue is obscure to me for now (31.08.2012) because yesterday I have installed v12 in Windows OS (with opera-unite and basic applications - file sharing and media player - already installed) and it is still working (server is working). The v12 Ubuntu version came today without unite, and after installing v11 (which has unite) I could not get applications (file sharing, etc). But they are still available: here and after downloading these files which have te .ua extension, they can be installed by opening them with Opera (v.11) But as opera-unite is no longer supported, it is possible that the server that provides the file sharing etc will soon be unaccessible. Even if that is the case the question should maybe not be closed at it has a general usefulness independently of the unite issue.

    Sites like ebay and even superuser stop working properly when I use opera 11.00. Menus stop working everywhere from ebay to godaddy. Hovering on a menu item doesn't expand it, no sub menu slides out. This makes a large number of very popular websites unusable. Am I right in assuming this is a javascript issue? I use opera for the turbo feature (I have tested opera with and without turbo so it's not turbo's fault) because I'm on mobile broadband until I get my phone line sorted out. Turbo helps me save money, as well as allowing me to surf at a sane speed. Is there a firefox or chrome equivalent to opera turbo that doesn't cost money? I'm using Opera 11.00, build 1156.

  • Broadcom BCM4331 not working on new Mac Mini 5,1

    I can't seem to get my wireless card working on my Mac Mini 5,1. Lspci returns: 03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4331 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 02) But running "additional drivers" doesn't detect anything. The nm-applet menu reads "device not ready--firmware missing." What can I do to get this to work? Note, this is with 12.04.1, so many of the previous discussions (for 11.10, etc) probably don't apply here.

  • How to fix the Dell Mini 10v (1010) touchpad with Ubuntu 12.04.1

    I've just installed 12.04.1 from scratch on my Mini 10v, and the touchpad is behaving a bit oddly. It's got buttons integrated into the touchpad, and it looks as though a touch on a button is also being registered as a touch on the touchpad, causing all sorts of problems with clicking and dragging. Is there a fix for this? I seem to remember on very old versions of ubuntu having to disable the lower part of the touchpad, but I don't think it's been an issue for some time.

    Update: As of version 11.50, control-click opens the new tab in background, as desired. Yay! In Opera, as opposed to all other modern browsers I know, control-click does not open a new tab. Moreover, I couldn't find any good way to configure this behavior. The best available option seems to be this. However, it's so hacky that it won't work on HTTPS sites unless you enable user javascript there, which doesn't seem like a good idea. There also seem to be other proposed solutions, but none of them seem to work. I'd like this because my laptop has no middle mouse-button, and I'm a creature of habit. Do people have any ideas (for the latest version, 10.50)? I'd like ctrl-click to open a background tab, but I can do with foreground. Thank you!

  • No wireless and display issues on Dell Inspiron 1210 (Mini 12)

    I recently upgraded a friend's Dell Mini 12 (Inspiron 1210) from Ubuntu 8.10 to 10.04 netbook edition. After installing, and performing the available updates, I'm unable to detect any wireless networks (it knows it has a wireless card, but won't list any active networks). There also seems to be an issue with the display drivers: when scrolling, resizing, or drawing any windows there is a noticeable lag as I watch the screen redraw. As if there are no compatible display drivers installed. All these problems go away the moment I boot up a version of 8.10. But I'd like to keep 10.04 if possible. Are these common problems? Everything I've read suggest this is laptop should be compatible. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Ubuntu on Mac mini and refit

    I have successfully installed Ubuntu pangolin 64 bit on a mac mini 2011 5,3 ( server version ). I have used the Ubuntu iso which I then converted to .dmg and dd'ed into an usb stick. I didn't want to keep OS X installed so I deleted the current partition and reformatted the drive as ext4 for / + a small swap partition. Everything seems to work nicely, but I have now a question since I read lots of reviews/howto when you people installed rEfit on Mac OS X. Did you use rEfit to be able to have a dual boot or there are other advantages by doing that ( apart that you will be able to download updated firmware for your hardware in the future via Mac OS ) like BIOS emulation and the like ?

  • Getting the most out of a Mac mini as a media center

    Hello! I own an old Mac mini from 2006 (maybe early 2007). It's got an Intel Core Solo 32-bits CPU and 512 MB RAM. 160 GB HDD. The GPU is an integrated chip… Currently, my Mini is sitting under my LCD TV (720p). It's plugged in via a DVI to HDMI cable. It's currently running Leopard. And unfortunately, Snow Leopard can't be installed on a device with less than 1 GB of RAM… So, my Mac mini isn't exactly powerful. Also, it's slow and Mac OS X is not a pleasant experience on my Mini right now. It feels slow and heavy. I want to use my Mac mini as a media center/player. I want to be able to play video files in 720p (H.264, Matroska/MOV files). So basically, playing high-def videos is all I want to do with my Mini. What OS should I install? Stick to OS X? Optimize for video playback? Or should I install another OS — like Win XP, Ubuntu or any other Linux dist? Then, will my Mini be able to play 720p videos smoothly, even though the CPU and GPU aren't that powerful and with the limit of 512 MB of RAM? Appreciate all help. Thanks in advance!

I usually use Screengrab to do this with Firefox, but in this situation I want a screenshot of the page as Opera renders it (because I want to show the page as rendered with HTML5 form controls like date and time). I am currently using Opera 10.60 x86_64 on Fedora 12, so solutions that work in browser would be preferable rather than external programs.

    Do you need just one or a few special keyboard shortcuts for your favorite program(s)? A quick modification to program shortcuts will get you up and running without installing additional software. Creating New Keyboard Shortcuts Go to the start menu shortcut for the program, right-click on it, and select properties. When the properties window opens click in the shortcut key text area. All that you need to do is choose an appropriate letter for the program (i.e. O for Opera, E for Editra, etc.) and type it in the blank. You will not need to type any other keys or combination in…the “Ctrl + Alt +” will be automatically entered for you as soon as you type the letter in. Click OK to finish creating the new keyboard shortcut. Those new keyboard shortcuts will speed up access to your favorite software. Another example from our system using “I” for Iron Browser. Certainly much quicker than using the start menu. Conclusion If you only need one or just a few special keyboard shortcuts then this method provides a quick and simple solution.   • Windows global shortcut hijacked by Opera

    I have Chrome 37 installed as my main browser. Recently I needed to test a design in a new, Chromium based Opera version 21.0.1432.67. This later one hijacked my global shortcuts somehow, so if I press Ctrl+Shift+N to start a new session for testing, even if Chrome is running, and it is the active window, the shortcut starts a new Opera tab - even if the program is not running. It is highly annoying. Even if I uninstall Opera, I'm unable to use the aforementioned shortcut, because it will not work at all. Any hints on how to restore the original shortcut?

    If you want to send an email to a contact or several contacts, you might want to keep some of the recipient email addresses private using the Bcc (Blind Carbon Copy) Field. Here’s how to do it in Outlook 2010. It’s not enabled by default, but adding it as a field for all future emails is a simple process. Launch Outlook and under the Home tab click on the New E-mail button. When the new mail window opens click on the Options tab and in the Show Fields column select Bcc. The Bcc field will appear and you can then put the contacts in there who you want to receive the mail secretly or don’t want to show a certain email address.     Like in Office 2007 the default color scheme for 2010 is blue. If you are not a fan of it, here we show you how to change it to silver or black. In this example we are using Microsoft Word, but it works the same way in Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint as well. Once you change the color scheme in one Office application, it will change it for all of the other apps in the suite. Change Color Scheme To change the color scheme click on the File tab to access Backstage View and click on Options. In Word Options the General section should open by default…use the dropdown menu next to Color Scheme to change it to Silver, Blue, or Black then click OK. Here is what Black looks like…who knows why Microsoft decided to leave the blue around the edges. This is the default Blue color scheme… And finally we take a look at the Silver color scheme in Excel… That is all there is to it! It would be nice if they would incorporate other color schemes to Office 2010, as some of you may not be happy with only three choices.
