• Setting up page goals in Analytics when using progressive enhancement to load content using jquery .load

  I'm using jQuery .load to load content in from other pages into my homepage, so that Google can still see whats going on I've made the <a> tags go to the pages but over ride them in the JavaScript so instead of going the that page it just loads in the content from that page to the main page. Normaly I would just make the page /contact.html a goal. Can I still get it to work as a goal if the content is being loaded in? Can I do something like when the user clicks <a href="contact.html" id="load-contact">contact</a> it logs the clicking of the <a> tag as a goal, rather than the actaul page being visited?

• Github Project Wiki: separate page filename from page title

  Starting Point In a former version of a project wiki on Github was a separation between the page filename and page title. So we build up our Wiki in a manner, that some well defined prefixes in the filename describe the overall context of the particular page. Sample: At the page themselves we used a title-tag on top of the page to get the title in the rendered HTML-page. Here “= Tabelle: Anhänge bzw. Attachments” for the page with filename “data+table+Attachment”. This was rendered as We see: there is a file “data+table+Attachment” and a title-tag “= Tabelle: Anhänge bzw. Attachments” as well as a rendering with the title “Tabelle: Anhänge bzw. Attachments”. This was fine. Problem Now the Github-Wiki uses the title of the page as the filename and vice versa. This ends up in a cluttered file system and also in suppressing titles in the page themselves. So this page renders to As we could see: the title tag “= Organisation: IT-Infrastruktur” is not more rendered. Instead the filename “organisation+IT Infrastructure” is choosen as the title for the page. That sucks. Solution I reported this by Github again and hope for a fix.

On click "Call Batch", the "child page" is loaded in div of "parent page" using javascript without refresh! Now this "Child Page" contains a label and a button. On click of button the text of label shoud change. I want the functionality of "child page" on "parent page". I got the "child page" in "parent page" div but the functionality of "child page" is lost and i am getting error.Where to put the code of button click event which changes the text of label? Please Help.

• Linking a facebook app's page to an existing facebook business page

  I have a facebook app page, and a separate facebook business profile page. The business page was created, but not by me, some time before the app and its page were created. Is there any way to connect the two pages, or import the content and friends from one to the other? The older profile page has some content; a set of friends and wall posts that I don't want to lose. It was created before I had a chance to set up an app page. Since the app was created more recently, it does not have any content posted to it. I intended the app page to eventually hold some advertising info for my main website itself (non-canvas, just using fb for the connect api etc). The idea being that as people sign up on my site through facebook's OAuth, I could use the graph api to post to their wall. The wall posts are working as expected but naturally they are directing users to the facebook app page, which has no content, friends etc. I'd prefer to be directed to the original business page, where the party is really happening. Now it seems that the two pages are completely separate; what would I need to do to direct the users to the business page?

• Does Google include the time to load images, for a single page, as part of the page speed?

  we all know that Google's affects your page rank with the load time of a page. How? That's part of the secret sauce. But we know that page speed is a serious factor. So - what is considered the speed of a page? Is it just the first (and main) html file which the GET receives? Or does it also include loading of images as part of that speed. so for example... GET /index.htm <- takes 0.45 seconds to retrieve (including DNS lookup before). robot parses page.. see's there's a single main image.... GET /img/main.png <- takes 5 seconds to download. is the page speed for that resource, 0.45 seconds OR 5.45 seconds? I understand Javascript is not fired .. but are any of these external resources all downloaded and part of the page speed?

  all. I use blogger as a platform for electronic music blog. Because of the thematics of the blog I embed many iframes (Youtube & Soundcloud). Of course this makes the articles to load slow. Almost each article on this blog consists of some text and many iframes below. What should I do in this particular case in order to make the articles (pages) load faster. Is there any available solution or I should use some jquery like lazy load to load iframes once the scroller reaches them? Any help is greatly appreciated.

• Load balancing on Ubuntu Server

  I have Ubuntu 10.04.4 server (32-bit) installed on a headless quad-core machine with 2GB RAM. I'm running a command-line analysis which is analyzing a large amount of data, but which does not require a large amount of RAM. The tool does not provide any multi-threading, so the CPU load is sitting at 1.00 (or sometimes just a little over). I ran top and pressed 1 to see the load on each of the cores and noticed that "Cpu1" is always running at 100%. I thought that the load would be distributed between the cores, rather than loading one core all the time. I'm sure I've seen this load-balancing behaviour before in Ubuntu or Debian Desktop versions. Why would the Server edition work differently? The analysis will likely take several hours to run, so loading one core at 100% for many hours while the other 3 remain idle is surely not the best approach?

• iFrame content pageviews not matching parent page pageviews

  I have a page with content hosted in an iFrame, both using the same GA account ID. When I look at the pages report, the parent page has about 9000 unique views, but the iFrame content only has 3700. Anyone have an idea what could cause that kind of discrepancy? My only guess is that it would be caused by people moving on before the iFrame content has a chance to load, but the average time on page for the host page is 56 seconds, so that doesn't seem possible. This is the page in question: http://cookware.lecreuset.com/cookware/content_le-creuset-lid_10151_-1_20002 The flipbook is hosted in the iFrame on a separate domain. I have each page of the flipbook triggering a virtual pageview to try to evaluate engagement with the book - when the flipbook loads, it fires a pageview for the page it is on, so that is the page I'm using for the 3700 number. I also looked at the source of the iFrame in the pages report, and that number just about matches the virtual pageviews so that piece is consistent. Any ideas on this are much appreciated. Thanks!

  So, hypothetical situation here: I have an SWF that's 30MB. Sound files (music) make up 25MB, art and other things make up the remaining 5MB. Would it be possible for me to load the 5MB of necessary art and other things first to allow the user to operate the app, then after that's all loaded and they are operating the app, load the remaining 25MB of sound files in the background? UPDATE: Loading SWF externally is not an option.

• Server load spikes several times a day, load average for the past month is 5 times the load average all year

  My Munin notifications set up for our (Debian) LAMP cluster have been notifying me continuously that our load on our production machine has been at dangerous levels. While the average load all year typically runs between 2 and 8, the load in the past month and only the past month -- has been skyrocketing to 10, 18, and occasionally even 50-60. The spikes last only 5-10 minutes at a time and occur about every 2-3 hours. The spikes do not effect performance only because I have a script that sends traffic off our server to a mirror CDN when the load goes above 10. I've looked for cron jobs that correlate with this timeframe but there is nothing I can see that would cause this. Site traffic is also normal (we receive about 200K visits per day). I'm also trying to think of anything I've changed around the time this problem began, and I really cannot think of anything. This is probably not much to go on. Maybe there is a clue in the top print-out (below) that I'm not seeing. But every day it throws a weird problem for which I do not find anything in document. examples: Hidden variables (_lastfocus) not found in the context error. Today, all of sudden it is now refusing to run some of the webtest which are part of the test mix in my load test run (is working fine with another load test). Are enterprise level, expensive tools are only good? (like loadrunner, silkperformer etc).

We have a .NET stack product, and the one piece that we step out of the stack is for load-balancing.   Hello, I'm currently working on writing a load testing application that takes advantage of Load Test using Visual Studio 2010. The load test will simulate 20 users on the same machine, and I need some data to be shared in-memory between all simulated users. I was suprised I couldn't find documentation answering the following question: What seperates each virtual user's running context from the other? Does each virtual user runs the tests in its own process? Maybe in its own app domain? Or just on its own thread? I need to know because if each user is running tests in its own process then all the in-memory cache isn't shared and is created for each user instead of one time for all of them, which is bad for me.

  Each site can have a name. For example, site x. Each page also can have a name (or a title) that should appear in <title> tag in the header. However, many websites out there use the combination site name - page name to provide the value for <title> tag. I find it a little far from being semantic. On the other hand, if you only include page title in <title> tag, search engines won't find your site by its name. For example, if your site's name is Thought Results and you don't include it in page titles, then if you search for Thought Results, you won't find your site in SERPs. Thus I'm searching for a mechanism to both include site title (not page title) in every page, and also only include page title in <title> tag to get more semantic results. Is there any way to achieve this?

• Load Testing Java Web Application - find TPS / Avg transaction response time

  I would like to build my own load testing tool in Java with the goal of being able to load test a web application I am building throughout the development cycle. The web application will be receiving server to server HTTP Post requests and I would like to find its starting transaction per second (TPS) capacity along with the avgerage response time. The Post request and response messages will be in XML (I dont' think that's really applicable though :) ). I have written a very simple Java app to send transactions and count how many transactions it was able to send in one second (1000 ms) however I don't think this is the best way to load test. Really what I want is to send any number of transactions at exactly the same time - i.e. 10, 50, 100 etc. Any help would be appreciated! • Determine web page draw time via a program

  Google Chrome has a nice tool to determine the time the page begins drawing, in the Network tab in Developer Tools. Similarly sites like webpagetest.org can tell you the draw time and give you the whole waterfall of page loads for a given web page. I was wondering if I could automate the process of finding the time it took to the first page draw, for all of the pages on my site, so I can share this data within my company. Obviously the page draw time will depend on the latency and throughput of your connection, but I'm more concerned with the relative data about pages on our site. However, I have 2 pages that have identical content: example.com/index.html example.com/page/1 Page 2, 3 and so on have different content naturally. However, for SEO purposes, what is the best way of telling Google that page 1 is identical to index.html? • In-page Google Analytics giving no page views recorded

  I am trying to use Google In-Page Analytics. The rest of Google Analytics seems to work correctly on my site, but when I go to the new In-page analytics, I get no click appearing. I just get an error saying "There are no pageviews recorded for this page. Try adjusting the date range or select an alternate page." To the left in the content details it tells the number of page views. Do I need to setup something special for In-Page anayltics to work?

• load balancer question c# asp.net

  The place where I work has 2 servers and a load balancer. The setup is horrible since I have to manually make sure both servers have the same files. I know there are ways to automate this but it has not been implemented, hopefully soon (I have no control over this). I wrote an application that collects a bunch of information from a user, then creates a folder named after the email of the user in one of the servers. The problem is that I can't control in which server the folder gets created in, so let say a user goes in.. fills his stuff and his folder gets created in server 1, user goes away for a while and goes back to the site but this time the load balancer throws the user into server 2, now the user does something that needs to be saved into his folder but since it didn't created in this server an error occurs. What can I do about this? any suggestions? Thanks
