  • Tool to determine filesystem on removable media

    I have a CompactFlash card that is used in a custom piece of hardware. WAV files are written to it. Windows doesn't recognize the media and wants to format it, which rules out FAT 16/32, NTFS, UDF, etc. Is there a Windows tool that can determine what filesystem the media is using and possible read the contents? I've tried dskprobe.exe, but it did not work.

    Hello,i want to install windows xp from my flash disk but upon running DISKPART and LIST PART my flash disk is not being listed.I soon find out its not supported on another forum.I tried unet bootin but i dont want to go that route.I have learn't that i can make my flash disk appear a hard drive but i am not sure since i have never done this before. My desktop computer is stronger, but I can't give up on the portability of my laptop.     I have a removable device setup so it autoruns when plugged into a Windows machine and pops up a message giving the owner's information, so it can be returned if lost. Is there a way to do this in Linux as well? It doesn't need to be complex, it can be an option in a right-click menu, or a splashscreen, or anything.

  • How could I let Skydrive desktop sync to MicroSD in Windows 8 tablet?

    I have a Samsung Slate 7 tablet with (now) Windows 8 on it. This machine has a 64 Gb SSD and I have a 64 Gb MicroSD card in it. I also have a Skydrive on my main Microsoft ID that contains about 45 Gb of content. With Windows and some development stuff installed, my Skydrive will not fit on the main drive of the tablet. (Besides, my idea was to keep data on the memory card anyway, to make it easier to repave the machine without data loss if need be.) My problem should now be clear: I want to install the Skydrive desktop app to sync my Skydrive to the MicroSD card. This is not possible, as Skydrive does not allow syncing files to removable drives. I have tried a number of things already, but none of them worked: Use the mklink command line tool to create a directory link/junction from a folder name on SSD to a folder on the MicroSD and then try to install Skydrive sync to the SSD link folder. Skydrive however still recognizes this as something it does not want to sync onto. The various different filter drivers mentioned on Agnipulse (including the Hitachi one) that should make windows see some or all of the removable drives in the system as fixed drives do not seem work on (64-bit) Windows 8: they either can't be installed, do nothing and/or cause Windows 8 to go into Automatic Repair mode when rebooting. The Lexar BootIt app seems to be meant to flip the relevant bit in the on-board drive controller of supported USB pen drives, but I tried it anyway. Of course it did nothing to how the MicroSD card was seen. I have now run out of ideas, it seems, and I was wondering if anyone here has a solution to let Windows 8 see the MicroSD memory card in my tablet as a fixed drive instead of removable drive, or some other way of getting the Skydrive desktop to sync my Skydrive data to that MicroSD card. And to be complete: this is not a duplicate question of this or this as those ask about getting USB drives multiple partitions to work on Windows XP. This question is specific about getting desktop Skydrive to sync to MicroSD card in Windows 8, which seems to be a question I have not seen on superuser so far.

  • Why my internal hard disk can be ejected?

    I have 6 hard disks in my computer and one DVD. The disk that I connect to the 6th SATA port is a regular disk. But my Windows 7 64 bit shows it as a removable drive. I can eject my hard disk! Just like a pen drive. If I connect another disk to the 6th port, I can eject that disk too. So it has nothing to do with the physical disk, it must be something related to Windows or BIOS I don't understand why Windows 7 is seeing a normal hard disk as removable. In Computer Management - Disk Management, the disk looks identical to the others - there is nothing there to suggest the drive is different from the others. But in the tray I have the icon to eject it. The motherboard model is ASUS F2A85 V PRO FM2. All the disks are formatted normally, no Dynamic Disk, no RAID, nothing special. How can I tell Windows 7 to treat the disk exactly like the others, so it can't be ejected?

  • Zend Framework AjaxContext filters the results and Decorators not removable

    Ok, since this problem has 2 parts, it will be easier to explain them together. So here goes: I am trying to remove the default decorators from these elements, since I am using a little different way of styling them. But no matter what i do, the DtDDWrapper still shows up. Does anybody know how can I do this in Linux?     I need to implement searching for SD-cards in my program. Currently I'm using search for all removable devices like: searcher = New Management.ManagementObjectSearcher("\\localhost\root\cimv2", "SELECT DeviceId FROM Win32_LogicalDisk WHERE DriveType=2 AND Size>0"); But it find USB flash drives also. Is there a proper way to find SD-cards only? What I need is in general only drive letter for available SD-cards (like "F:" or so).

I often have, I believe my USB is not broke .. because if I plugin the USB to another computer could be seen / detected.     I am currently using WM_DEVICECHANGE to be notified when new USB drives are connected to the computer. This works great for devices like thumb-drives where as soon as the device arrives it is ready to have files read from it. For devices like SD card readers it does not because the message is sent out once when the device is connected but no message is sent when a user actually inserts a card into the device. Is it possible to detect the insertion of new media into an existing USB device without having to use polling?

  • How to format my external HDD back to as "removable storage"?

    Recently I formated my Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex external HDD in Mac OS X using GUID partition table since I wanted to install another Mac OS X onto that external HDD. However I changed my mind after my external HDD being formatted. Now I want to format my external HDD back to NTFS so that I can use it with my Windows 7. However, after I connected my external HDD via USB it didn't show up in my "computer" so I used "Disk Management" to check what's wrong with it. In the "Disk Management" I saw that there was one partition of my external HDD called "EFI partition" and I found that I could not delete this partition in the "Disk Management". So I tried to use "diskpart" in cmd and select the external HDD and commanded "clean". Then the EFI partition was gone and I created new volumn on that external HDD. However, after the volumn being created my external HDD did show up in my "computer" but it is in the "Hard Disk Drive" not in the "Devices with Removable Storage" as it used to be. I'm wondering if I can do anything to it to make it recognized as a "Devices with Removable Storage"?

    Hello, Recently I installed an apcusbd on a FreeBSD 8.0 amd64 box via ports system. It installed perfectly but it won't run. Here what is says in the log: FATAL ERROR in generic-usb.c at line 636 Cannot find UPS device It appeared that HID driver picked the /dev/ugen4.2 which could cause the apcusb being unable to find the device. After I had discovered this, I rebuilt the kernel and removed the hid driver. Now it just shows "ugen4.2: <Tripp Lite> at usbus4" and no uhid0 device appears. Nevertheless the problem persisted. I tried to leave the DEVICE config setting blank --- won't help. Then I specified the particular device in the config, but it did not help either.     I have over 8GB in my "Code Library" that I maintain on a 64GB ScanDisk Ultra Backup USB Device. Windows Search 4.0 (installed on Windows XP) can index removable drives, but Windows 7 (which uses Windows Search 4.0) cannot because the USB device identifies itself as a Removable drive and Windows 7 refuses to index removable drives. If I click on the Safely remove hardware icon on the tray, I can see a menu item for the drive - say drive G: (the light on the USB drive is also on) If I type in G: into the address bar of explorer, it says 'Cannot find...' If I type in G: into a command prompt window, it works and I can do a dir to see the list of directories on the drive. To fix this, I've to remove-reinsert the pen-drive. But doing it every day is annoying. Also this happens only on this machine.. I use this drive on my home machine and it works flawlessly each time. Can anyone suggest things that I could try ?     Hello. I have a problem (using Mac OS X 10.5.8) with the access rights of a folder that was presumably created by a virus on a disk-on-key drive when I used it with a PC.     I wanted to take a sneak peak at Windows 7 so I thought of installing it. I have Windows Vista on my laptop which came pre-installed with it. I didnt want to mess with it. So I created a partition (20 GB) in my USB external hard disk and tried to install Windows 7 on that partition. But when I booted from Windows 7 DVD and selected the target partition on USB hard disk, it said it cannot be installed. Is there any way to install windows on external USB hard disk?
