  • Windows XP: GNU find.exe moved my files and now they're lost

    - by user2001487
I used a series of GNU find.exe commands to move media files to the current folder. Explorer show that the folders and files still exist in their original location but properties show zero size and files. I performed a chkdisk and that didnt help. Any ideas how to recover these files? Here are the commands from my bat file. find.exe . -mindepth 1 -name "*.mkv" -type d -exec mv {} {}.tmp ; find.exe . -mindepth 2 -type f -exec mv {} . ; find.exe . -mindepth 1 -type d -exec rmdir {} ; http://i.stack.imgur.com/Eiq2y.jpg http://i.stack.imgur.com/E1wSN.jpg

  • Can't delete some directories as Admin

    - by PencilPusher77
I am unable to delete the following directory in Windows 7 C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\iTunes The error message that is displayed when I try is: "You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from the computer's administrator to make changes to this folder." I am an Administrator and have UAC set to "Never Notify". iTunes is not running either (it's been uninstalled). I have tried running cmd.exe using "Run as administrator" from the right click context menu, then executing rmdir "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs" but it just returns "Access is denied." Any ideas why I can't delete this dir? Thanks!

  • Best and Proper Permissions Settings for Directory

    - by Dr. DOT
I am interested in knowing the proper, yet security-conscious settings for a directory. Here's my scenario: I have a username for FTP access to my server called "user". For the purpose of the scenario, PHP runs as "nobody" on my server. I have a directory off the document root called "sample". The "sample" directory is chmod'd at 0755 (drwxr-xr-x) "Sample" is owned by "user" and the group is set to "user" The above is all very straight forward and standard. So I want to have a script be able to create (mkdir) and delete (rmdir) directories under "sample". Yet, I don't want to obviously overly expose my server by opening up the permissions (I could easily chmod sample to 0777 and make it world write-able). What is the best combination of permissions, owner settings and/or group settings to allow my script to create and delete directories under "sample" while retaining the ability for "user" to continue to FTP into the directory? Thanks.

  • X Session from Mac

    - by tekknolagi
How can I log into an X server from Mac OS X? I know that ssh -X username@host will log me in and I will have the capability to run X applications. On Cygwin/X you can log in and have a whole X session from your computer... and it will look something like this: How can I replicate this? Using this batch script: @echo off SET DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0.0 SET REMOTE_HOST=%1 IF "%REMOTE_HOST%" == "" SET REMOTE_HOST=10.0.0.1 SET CYGWIN_ROOT=\cygwin SET RUN=%CYGWIN_ROOT%\bin\run -p /usr/bin SET PATH=.;%CYGWIN_ROOT%\bin;%PATH% SET XAPPLRESDIR= SET XCMSDB= SET XKEYSYMDB= SET XNLSPATH= if not exist %CYGWIN_ROOT%\tmp\.X11-unix\X0 goto CLEANUP-FINISH attrib -s %CYGWIN_ROOT%\tmp\.X11-unix\X0 del %CYGWIN_ROOT%\tmp\.X11-unix\X0 :CLEANUP-FINISH if exist %CYGWIN_ROOT%\tmp\.X11-unix rmdir %CYGWIN_ROOT%\tmp\.X11-unix if "%OS%" == "Windows_NT" goto OS_NT echo startxdmcp.bat - Starting on Windows 95/98/Me goto STARTUP :OS_NT REM Windows NT/2000/XP echo startxdmcp.bat - Starting on Windows NT/2000/XP :STARTUP %RUN% XWin -query tekknolagi.dyndns.org -clipboard -lesspointer -scrollbars -screen 0 1050x1655@2 -screen 1 1680x985@1

  • IF commands in a batch file

    - by Rossaluss
I'm writing a small batch file to replace users' themes and charts in Office and I have the below batch file that works just fine. cd c:\documents and settings\%username%\application data\microsoft\templates echo Y|rmdir charts /s mkdir charts echo Y|del "c:\documents and settings\%username%\application data\microsoft\templates\document themes\*.*" net use o: \\servername\sms copy "o:\ppt themes\charts\*.*" "c:\documents and settings\%username%\application data\microsoft\templates\charts" copy "o:\ppt themes\Document Themes\*.*" "c:\documents and settings\%username%\application data\microsoft\templates\document themes" c: net use o: /delete Now what I want is the above to only run if it hasn't run before as we'll be pushing this out to all users for around 2 weeks to catch people that aren't in every day. Is there any way to begin the command with something to look for one of the new themes/charts already pushed down, and if it's present, then have it not run? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I'm pretty new to these batch files.

  • Massive amount of subfolders and long subfolders. ¿How can I delete all of them?

    - by Carlos
Good day. We have a little problem here. We have a share with the backup of all the server's offices, Its a really big share with more than 8.000.000 files. Our users usually give long names to the folders they create, and then make subfolders (long too) and more subfolders... and more suboflders.... We have a new share with more capacity, and with a simpe robocopy bat we copied all the files and folders (some give problems, but we manually copied them) But the problem is deleting them. del command didnt work well when so long paths, neirder rmdir... I'm tried some commanders, but no luck. Can u recommend me any tool that can delete recursively or able to delete 255+ paths? Edited: The SO on background of the share it's NetApp OS. But I can access it from Windows Servers. 2000 and 2003 Thanks.

  • How to force rsync to use destination directory as root

    - by thepurplepixel
I have a simple script to one-way-sync files/folders within a directory: #!/bin/bash HOST='<hostname>' USER='<username>' DIR='/downloads/' SOURCE='/srv/torrents' rsync -e "ssh -l $USER" --remove-source-files -h -4 -r --stats --progress -i $SOURCE $HOST:$DIR find $SOURCE -type d -empty -prune -exec rmdir -p \{\} \; However, when this rsync operation runs, it creates a folder, torrents in /downloads on the destination machine. How can I force rsync to put all folders & files from /srv/torrents (remote) into /downloads/ (local) instead of creating /downloads/torrents as a separate directory?

  • Cannot Delete an Empty Folder in Windows 7

    - by Mike Gates
I've used this question's answer by user "Moab" to give myself permission to delete an empty folder, so that I no longer get "accessed denied". However, now when I try removing this folder, I get a message that says "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." This is merely my "eclipse" (IDE) folder that I totally emptied out and am trying to delete, but for some reason cannot. I've tried quite a few things: Via Windows Explorer: Right Click - Delete Via Command Prompt RD /S /Q eclipse del /F eclipse rmdir /S eclipse I'm out of ideas, and I'd really like to delete this folder without having to install any software. I've done a bit of research and this is all I found that I could try. Does anyone have any other ideas?

  • How to delete a folder in python when [Error 32] is present

    - by harish
I am using python 2.7. I want to delete a folder which may or may not be empty. The folder is handled by thread for file-monitoring. I am not able to kill thread but wanted to delete this folder any how. I tried with os.rmdir(Location) shutil.rmtree(Location) os.unlink(Location) But, it didn't work. It is showing error as [Error 32] The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process: 'c:\\users\\cipher~1\\appdata\\local\\temp\\fis\\a0c433973524de528420bbd56f8ede609e6ea700' I want to delete folder a0c433973524de528420bbd56f8ede609e6ea700 or delete whole path will also suffice.

  • Getting the alternative to the 200-Line Linux Kernel patch to work

    - by Gödel
Apparently, there is a comparable alternative to the 200-line kernel patch that involves no kernel upgrade. It is presented here and discussed here. However, I am not sure if webupd8's solution (under the section "Use it in Ubuntu") on Ubuntu actually works or not. In particular, one commenter on ./ is saying he's getting an error message. Could anyone post the "correct" method that actually works? Suggested solution: Based on the comments I've read so far, the following seems to work. (1) In /etc/rc.local, add the following lines to above exit 0: mkdir -p /dev/cgroup/cpu mount -t cgroup cgroup /dev/cgroup/cpu -o cpu mkdir -m 0777 /dev/cgroup/cpu/user echo "/usr/local/sbin/cgroup_clean" > /dev/cgroup/cpu/release_agent (2) Create a file named /usr/local/sbin/cgroup_clean with the following content: #!/bin/sh rmdir /dev/cgroup/cpu/$1 (3) In your ~/.bashrc, add: if [ "$PS1" ] ; then mkdir -m 0700 /dev/cgroup/cpu/user/$$ echo $$ > /dev/cgroup/cpu/user/$$/tasks echo "1" > /dev/cgroup/cpu/user/$$/notify_on_release fi (4) (To make sure the execution bit is on) execute sudo chmod +x /usr/local/sbin/cgroup_clean /etc/rc.local (5) Reboot.

  • Problem reading from the StandarOutput from ftp.exe. Possible System.Diagnostics.Process Framework b

    - by SoMoS
Hello, I was trying some stuff executing console applications when I found this problem handling the I/O of the ftp.exe command that everybody has into the computer. Just try this code: m_process = New Diagnostics.Process() m_process.StartInfo.FileName = "ftp.exe" m_process.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = True m_process.StartInfo.RedirectStandardInput = True m_process.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = True m_process.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = False m_process.Start() m_process.StandardInput.AutoFlush = True m_process.StandardInput.WriteLine("help") MsgBox(m_process.StandardOutput.ReadLine()) MsgBox(m_process.StandardOutput.ReadLine()) MsgBox(m_process.StandardOutput.ReadLine()) MsgBox(m_process.StandardOutput.ReadLine()) This should show you the text that ftp sends you when you do that from the command line: Los comandos se pueden abreviar. Comandos: ! delete literal prompt send ? debug ls put status append dir mdelete pwd trace ascii disconnect mdir quit type bell get mget quote user binary glob mkdir recv verbose bye hash mls remotehelp cd help mput rename close lcd open rmdir Instead of that I'm getting the first line and 3 more with garbage, after that the call to ReadLine block like if there was no data available. Any hints about that?

  • Remove empty subfolders with PHP

    - by Dmitry Letano
I am working on a PHP function that will recursively remove all sub-folders that contain no files starting from a given absolute path. Here is the code developed so far: function RemoveEmptySubFolders($starting_from_path) { // Returns true if the folder contains no files function IsEmptyFolder($folder) { return (count(array_diff(glob($folder.DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR."*"), Array(".", ".."))) == 0); } // Cycles thorugh the subfolders of $from_path and // returns true if at least one empty folder has been removed function DoRemoveEmptyFolders($from_path) { if(IsEmptyFolder($from_path)) { rmdir($from_path); return true; } else { $Dirs = glob($from_path.DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR."*", GLOB_ONLYDIR); $ret = false; foreach($Dirs as $path) { $res = DoRemoveEmptyFolders($path); $ret = $ret ? $ret : $res; } return $ret; } } while (DoRemoveEmptyFolders($starting_from_path)) {} } As per my tests this function works, though I would be very delighted to see any ideas for better performing code.

  • Break all hardlinks within a folder

    - by Georges Dupéron
I have a folder which contains a certain number of files which have hard links (in the same folder or somewhere else), and I want to de-hardlink these files, so they become independant, and changes to their contents won't affect any other file (their link count becomes 1). Below, I give a solution which basically copies each hard link to another location, then move it back in place. However this method seems rather crude and error-prone, so I'd like to know if there is some command which will de-hardlink a file for me. Crude answer : Find files which have hard links (Edit: To also find sockets, etc. that have hardlinks, use find -not -type d -links +1) : find -type f -links +1 A crude method to de-hardlink a file (copy it to another location, and move it back) : Edit: As Celada said, it's best to do a cp -p below, to avoid loosing timestamps and permissions. Edit: Create a temporary directory and copy to a file under it, instead of overwriting a temp file, it minimizes the risk to overwrite some data, though the mv command is still risky (thanks @Tobu). # This is unhardlink.sh set -e for i in "$@"; do temp="$(mktemp -d ./hardlnk-XXXXXXXX)" [ -e "$temp" ] && cp -ip "$i" "$temp/tempcopy" && mv "$temp/tempcopy" "$i" && rmdir "$temp" done So, to un-hardlink all hard links (Edit: changed -type f to -not -type d, see above) : find -not -type d -links +1 -print0 | xargs -0 unhardlink.sh

  • Very slow context menu in Windows 8

    - by burzum
I've installed Windows 8 Pro on a blank new SSD, the system is on c:\. I do not think this problem was existent when I started using Windows 8 but I think it started to happen after I've symlinked (mklink /D) a folder from another drive, a SATA drive, to c:\xampp\htdocs. When I right click a file or folder inside the symlinked folder it always takes at least ~5-10 seconds until the context menu comes up. This also happens sometimes, but not all the time for files and folder outside of the symlinked folder. Also when I delete folders the delete folder dialog seems to get locked and does not continue. When I delete a folder using rmdir from the command line it works fine and pretty fast. It appears to me like the file explorer in Windows 8 is pretty bad compared to any other Windows I've used before? Any idea how to get these problems solved? I've already removed a lot of context menu entries; the only ones left are the tortoise git context menus but I'm sure that's not the problem.

  • How to delete a residual Ubuntu directory from Windows?

    - by memo1288
I'm using Windows 7. After installing (and uninstalling) Ubuntu on my laptop, I found that it left a folder called ".Trash-1000" on my H drive. I cannot remove it: if I try to delete it from Explorer, it says: The file name you specified is not valid or too long. Specify a different file name. If I try to remove it from the command line, this is what happens: H:\>rmdir .Trash-1000 /S /Q .Trash-1000\files\Screenshot from 2013-09-24 11:57:32.png - The filename, direct ory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. .Trash-1000\files\Screenshot from 2013-09-24 12:03:45.2.png - The filename, dire ctory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. .Trash-1000\info\Screenshot from 2013-09-24 11:57:32.png.trashinfo - The filenam e, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. .Trash-1000\info\Screenshot from 2013-09-24 12:03:45.2.png.trashinfo - The filen ame, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. The files mentioned there are the contents of that folder. Using quotes around the folder name yields the same result. Trying to delete any of the sub-folders results in the same error, and trying to remove any of the files inside results in "No such file or directory". As I said before, I no longer have Ubuntu installed. How can I remove this folder?

  • Cocoa: Using UNIX based commands to write a file

I'm looking for help with a program im making. I create a *.sh file as follows: SVN_StatGenAppDelegate.h: NSWindow *window; NSTask *touch; NSArray *touchArguments; NSString *svnURLStr; NSString *SVNStatStr; NSString *destDirStr; SVN_StatGenApplDelegate.m: NSString *locationStr = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@/exec.sh", destDirStr]; NSLog(@"%@", locationStr); touch = [[NSTask alloc] init]; [touch setLaunchPath:@"/usr/bin/touch"]; touchArguments = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:locationStr, nil]; [touch setArguments:touchArguments]; [touch launch]; This works, i get a file called exec.sh created in the location i craete with the destDirStr. Now is my next question, i need to get that file filled with the following: svn co http://repo.com/svn/test C:\users\twan\desktop\pres\_temp cd C:\users\twan\desktop\pres\_temp svn log -v --xml > logfile.log copy C:\users\twan\desktop\statsvn.jar C:\users\twan\desktop\pres\_temp cd .. java -jar _temp\statsvn.jar C:\users\twan\desktop\pres\_temp/logfile.log C:\users\twan\desktop\pres\_temp rmdir /s /Q _temp The actual idea is that this script is written into the sh file, and all the _temp and other locations are replaced by the vars i get from textfields etc. so c:\users\twan\desktop\pres_temp would be a var called tempDirStr that i get from my inputfields. (i know these cmomands and locations are windows based, im doing this with a friend and he made a .net counterpart of the application. Can you guys help me out?:D thanks in advance!

  • Python: problem with tiny script to delete files

    - by Rosarch
I have a project that used to be under SVN, but now I'm moving it to Mercurial, so I want to clear out all the .svn files. It's a little too big to do it by hand, so I decided to write a python script to do it. But it isn't working. def cleandir(dir_path): print "Cleaning %s\n" % dir_path toDelete = [] files = os.listdir(dir_path) for filedir in files: print "considering %s" % filedir # continue if filedir == '.' or filedir == '..': print "skipping %s" % filedir continue path = dir_path + os.sep + filedir if os.path.isdir(path): cleandir(path) else: print "not dir: %s" % path if 'svn' in filedir: toDelete.append(path) print "Files to be deleted:" for candidate in toDelete: print candidate print "Delete all? [y|n]" choice = raw_input() if choice == 'y': for filedir in toDelete: if os.path.isdir(filedir): os.rmdir(filedir) else: os.unlink(filedir) exit() if __name__ == "__main__": cleandir(dir) The print statements show that it's only "considering" the filedirs whose names start with ".". However, if I uncomment the continue statement, all the filedirs are "considered". Why is this? Or is there some other utility that already exists to recursively de-SVN-ify a directory tree?

  • How do I delete folders in bash after successful copy (Mac OSX)?

I am having the problem of deleting folders once they are copied over, well and also really verifying that they were copied over). • How to bind old user's SID to new user to remain NTFS file ownership and permissions after freshly reinstall of Windows?

    - by LiuYan ??
    Each time we reinstalled Windows, it will create a new SID for user even the username is as same as before. // example (not real SID format, just show the problem) user SID -------------------- liuyan S-old-501 // old SID before reinstall liuyan S-new-501 // new SID after reinstall The annoying problem after reinstall is NTFS file owership and permissions on hard drive disk are still associated with old user's SID. I want to keep the ownership and permission setting of NTFS files, then want to let the new user take the old user's SID, so that I can access files as before without permission problem. The cacls command line tool can't be used in such situation, because the file does belongs to new user, so it will failed with Access is denied error. and it can't change ownership. Even if I can change the owership via SubInACL tool, cacls can't remove the old user's permission because the old user does not exist on new installation, and can't copy the old user's permission to new user. So, can we simply bind old user's SID to new user on the freshly installed Windows ?     I have to compare two folder structure and with reference of source folder I want to delete all the files/folders present in other destination folder which do not exist in reference source folder, how could i do this? $original = scan_dir_recursive('/var/www/html/copy2'); $mirror = scan_dir_recursive('/var/www/html/copy1'); function scan_dir_recursive($dir) { $all_paths = array(); $new_paths = scandir($dir); foreach ($new_paths as $path) { if ($path == '.' || $path == '..') { continue; } $path = $dir . DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR . $path; if (is_dir($path)) { $all_paths = array_merge($all_paths, scan_dir_recursive($path)); } else { $all_paths[] = $path; } } return $all_paths; } foreach($mirror as $mirr) { if($mirr != '.' && $mirr != '..') { if(!in_array($mirr, $original)) { unlink($mirr); // delete the file } } } The above code shows what i did.. Here My copy1 folder contains extra files than copy2 folders hence i need these extra files to be deleted. Below given output is are arrays of original Mirror and of difference of both.. Original Array ( [0] => /var/www/html/copy2/Copy (5) of New Text Document.txt [1] => /var/www/html/copy2/Copy of New Text Document.txt ) Mirror Array ( [0] => /var/www/html/copy1/Copy (2) of New Text Document.txt [1] => /var/www/html/copy1/Copy (3) of New Text Document.txt [2] => /var/www/html/copy1/Copy (5) of New Text Document.txt ) Difference Array ( [0] => /var/www/html/copy1/Copy (2) of New Text Document.txt [1] => /var/www/html/copy1/Copy (3) of New Text Document.txt [2] => /var/www/html/copy1/Copy (5) of New Text Document.txt ) when i iterate a loop to delete on difference array all files has to be deleted as per displayed output.. how can i rectify this.. the loop for deletion is given below. $dirs_to_delete = array(); foreach ($diff_path as $path) { if (is_dir($path)) { $dirs_to_delete[] = $path; } else { unlink($path); } } while ($dir = array_pop($dirs_to_delete)) { rmdir($dir); }
