    What's the simplest way to shrink transaction log file on a mirrored production database? I have to, as my disk space is running out. I will make a full database backup before I do this, so I don't need to keep anything from the transaction log (right? I have daily full database backup, probably never need point-in-time restore, though I'll keep the option open if I can - that's all the .ldf is really for, correct?). (Hope this isn't an exact duplicate, I read a lot of questions but couldn't find this exact scenario elsewhere).

    We have an iSCSI target provided by a CentOS server attached to a Windows Server 2003 Standard box, formatted in NTFS. My question is this - I know we can resize the backend block device fine (LVM et al.), however how do you tell Windows the NTFS filesystem has shrunk afterwards? [note we want to shrink]. I'm imagining a world of pain if it's not done correctly! This is a production box, so ideally we'd like the process to keep the drive mounted and online during the process, but downtime can be scheduled if need be. 90% of what I've found on the subject so far basically involves using the 'ntfsresize' command in Linux to do the job -- but surely Windows can do this itself?     I am trying to shink Windows 7 OS partition C: but cannot shrink as much as I plan due to unmovable files. I have tried Windows own defrag tool before but it does not move files that are unmovable. Here are some ideas I have learned from previous posts, and I hope at least one of them will work and wish to know the detail how to do: Inspired by this post, which suggests backup C:, then delete C: , create a smaller partition, and then copy the backup to the smaller partition. I was wondering if anyone here can confirm that Windows 7 will still work in this way? What reliable tools can be used for backuping the system, and deleting and creating partition, and then copying back the backup in this method? I am actually trying another way suggested in this post. I have identified what unmovable file currently stop further shrinking: \ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows\Projects\SystemIndex\Indexer\CiFiles\00010015.wid::$DATA If I understand correctly, the file belongs to Windows Search. Can I set up somewhere in Windows system settings to temperately eliminate the file and similar ones (because there are many similar files under the same directory which I guess will also stand in the way of shrinking and unmovable by defrag)? Any other idea that might work will also be appreciated. Thanks and regards!

    I found a list of versions and their Solaris release numbers http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19253-01/819-5461/appendixa-1/index.html I know that you can grow a pool by replacing drives with larger ones or adding new drives or mirrors to the pool. I heard that ZFS did not yet support shrinking pools by removing drives/mirrors. But that has probably been changed. Which version (if any) released the ability to shrink a pool?

  • ExtJS TabPanel content does not shrink in IE6

    I'm using ExtJS 3.2 and have content inside of a tab panel, and the tab panel inside of a container in a Viewport. The actual TabPanel resizes correctly on the viewport size changes, but the content inside a panel in the TabPanel seems to be a fixed width and will not shrink when the window is resized.The strange thing is it grows if I increase the window size. How can I get the content inside a Tabpanel to shrink on window resizing. Sorry for this being confusing, my structure is this: Viewport (rendered to body, and sets defaults {monitorResize:true}) - Text Label - TabPanel - Tab - Container (Border Layout) - Panel 1 (Center) - Panel 2 (East) - Panel 3 (South) Thanks in advance!

    Let's say I have a menu of a prespecified width... I want each menu item to shrink-to-fit with its contents, with the exception of ONE, which then fills up the remaining space in the menu. so like: Fill | item | item | item So far the closest I've come to achieving this effect is by using display:table-cell; in the css code for each menu item. But the problem is unless I define a width for the "item"s, they all expand to take up the same amount of width in the table. Fill | item | item | item | item Is there any way to have the item spaces shrink to fit the item and have the fill just fill up the rest of the div? I might not have asked this very clearly... I'll clarify if needed.

    I'm attempting to use the figure and figcaption tags to varying success. Someone suggested a great CSS method to get rid of the figure margin and also link up the caption with the image. The problem: all images shrink to an extremely small size. Not sure how to rectify this. These are user-submitted images using Django so they vary in size.     I'm going to build a freenas server, would like to make sure what I can do with such magical and advanced zfs. If I have 5 * 3TB disks in RAIDZ (12TB storage in total), now I am trying to add another 2 * 3TB disks to this existing array. Q: Am I able to do it without affect/touch any existing data on RAIDZ volume? What about take away some existing disk? say take away 1 disk out of the 5 disks, assuming only very small portion of data exists on the raidz.

I then defragmented and consolidated free space using PerfectDisk 12 and also run a boot time defragmented. Now what remains is Metadata files that preventing me from shrinking the volume beyond half the size if disk. Please tell me what to do?????

    How is it possible to execute a direct SQL command to an ADO.NET connected database? I want to send a DBCC SHRINKDATABASE to the SQL server, to compress the current datafile after a big deletion process. The function ObjectContext::CreateQuery returns a parser error after the DBCC command. Is there any other way to shrink the database file, or another way to send the SQL command directly to the SQL Server?

  • Why does partition tool GParted read the 190GB of data twice when shrink a 250GB partition to 190GB?

    When using GParted to shrink a 250GB partition to 190GB, I thought it will move the 60GB of data back into the 190GB region and call it done. But instead it reads the 190GB of data twice, the first time taking about 1 hour and the second time for 2 hours. The question is: 1) how come it touches the 190GB of data instead of the 60GB of data? 2) how come it reads it twice? Update: i am suspecting this: it says "moving /dev/sdb1 to the right and then shrink it to 190GB"... so is that the reason, first it is to shrink the partition to 190GB, and then move it to the right? So it is not moving to the right and then shrink it, but to shrink it first and move it. (cannot move first because the original 250GB is the whole hard drive). Also, why move it to the right?

    Hi, I cannot get my relative layuot view to shrink when using it in the follwing layout, used as a dialog. In below example the scrollview always expands to fill the entire dialog which looks very ugly if there is not much actual content. I have tried most combinations of fill_parent, wrap_content etc without success. The problem seems to be that setting the button to "align_bottom" will cause the dialog to fill its height. But if I change the order and have to button placed below the scrollview the button will not be visible if a lot of content is shown...   • How can I shrink my Windows partition further than the disk management is allowing?

    I just bought a new computer with a 2tb hard drive that has only a single partition. I would like to divide this into at least 4 partitions, but when I try to shrink the current partition, it says the total size is 1888171 MB and that the size of available shrink space is only 939075 MB. The used disk space is at 40gb right now - why can't shrink it to somewhere around that? I read here: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/working-around-windows-vistas-shrink-volume-inadequacy-problems/ that this is because of unmovable system files. I doubt this is the only problem though. I would like to get this partition down to 500gb. How can I do this?

  • Datagrid row height doesnot shrink back

    Hi, I have a data grid, in each row I have one cell which needs to have a very lengthy text which is about 1000 characters long. So I decided to put the text in the expander control keeping the cell width fixed, when the user wants to read the text, he clicks on the expander to open and reads it. The row height automatically grows when the expander is expanded but when the expander is collapsed back, the row height doesnt shirk. Can anyone pls tell me how to set the row height back after the expander is collapsed? i tried the follwing link. http://forums.silverlight.net/forums/p/133177/299186.aspx#299186 but this did not work any help would be grealty appreciated, thanks

    Since ADT 17 you can find in the gen folder a BuildConfig class with a DEBUG constant. I often use this constant in my code, since ADT changes the value automatically when you export the application. However with Proguard this doesn't work anymore. E.g. I have following snippet: if (!BuildConfig.DEBUG) { ACRA.init(this); } Proguard notices, that DEBUG is true, so it removes this snippet completely and shrinks the app. After that ADT changes DEBUG constant, but this is too late. The only solution I know is to create my own DEBUG constant and to change it manually again. But I really like the functionality of ADT. Do you know a better solution? Thanks in advance.

    I use VMWare Fusion on my Mac to run a virtual Windows 7 machine, and the Microsoft IE compatibility Windows XP virtual machines. In VMWare Tools on the Windows guest OSes, there’s a “Shrink” option that lets you reduce the size of the sparse disk image used by the guest OS, to save hard drive space on your host OX. I’ve recently created another virtual machine, this time running Snow Leopard Server. I was wondering if I could shrink the spare disk image used by this machine too, but I can’t find a VMWare Tools app on the Mac guest OS, even though VMWare Tools have been installed (as VMWare’s Shared Folders feature is working). Is there any way to shrink the sparse disk image used by Mac OS X guest OSes in VMWare Fusion?
