  • dynamic insert php mysql and preformance

    I have a folder/array of images, it may be 1, maximum of 12. What I need to do is dynamically add them so the images are added to an images table. At the moment I have $directory = "portfolio_images/$id/Thumbs/"; $images = glob("" . $directory . "*.jpg"); for ( $i= 0; $i <= count($images); $i += 1) { mysql_query("INSERT INTO project_images (image_name, project_id)VALUES ('$images[0]', '$id')") or die(mysql_error()); } this is fine but it does not feel right, how is this for performance? Is there a better way? The maximum number of images is only ever going to be 12. Thanks, Ross

  • How do you get credentials (NetworkCredential) of currently logged in user ?

    Hi, I'm writing some code to utilise a 3rd party component, and I need to supply an object which implements ICredentials when I start to use it. If I write the following... var credential = new NetworkCredential("MyUsername", "MyPassword"); ...and pass "credential", it's fine. But I would like to pass the credentials of the current user (it's a Windows service, so runs as a specified user). I have tried both of the following, but neither appear to work (or return anything): NetworkCredential credential = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; NetworkCredential credential = CredentialCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials; Can anyone suggest how to acquire an approriate object, which represents the credentials of the username that the service is running under ?     Hi, is it possible to run an SQL query, with an XPath "where" clause, and to trim trailing spaces before the comparison ? I have an SQL XML column, in which I have XML nodes with attributes which contain trailing spaces. I would like to find a given record, which has a specified attribute value - without the trailing spaces. When I try, I get... "There is no function '{http://www.w3.org/2004/07/xpath-functions}:normalize-space()'" I have tried the following (query 1 works, query 2 doesn't). Should I be using storing my vector ui graphics as PDF's and loading them using CGContextDrawPDFPage to draw them. I did previously asked what way Apple store their UI graphics and was answered crushed png. The options as I see it, but I would really want to know what technique other people use. This question is for vector graphics only. Looking for what is standard / most effective / most efficient.   • Accessing Singleton Instance Variable in Class Methods Throws Warning?

    Hello, I've using the Objective-C singleton from here at stackoverflow. The singleton in the class method accesses it's instance variable, which works, but throws a complie warning. How should I be doing this? Is there a way to do this without accessing the sharedInstance: in each class method? for example here is my class method: + (NSString *)myClassMethods { [instanceDateFormatter setFormat:@"MM"]; return [instanceDateFormatter stringWithDate:somedate]; } line 2 will have the complie warning.   • Most effective way of drawing 4 lines in an iPhone app?

    basic question, but I'm unsure. Not looking for code as an answer. I want to draw 4 short lines 1px lines on a view. What is the best way to approach this task? Options:- Load an image of the line, then create 4 UIImageViews with it. Create my own subclass of a UIView that draws a line in the draw rect method. Draw elsewhere on another view, another UIImageView that has an UIImage inside it (is this possible?) Another way? Thanks Ross

    Currently there is one external IP pointing to a Window Web Server. Now wish to add a Linux web server. Wish to know if the following setup is ok : 119.xxx.xxx.xxx points to Window Web Server 119.xxx.xxx.xxx/Linux_Server points to the new additional Linux Server. If the above scheme is ok, then how should it be done. (In terms of where the router should be placed and configured etc). If the above scheme is unusual or not workable please suggest best practice scheme. Hope somebody knowledgable could help ...

  • Making a Live Thumb drive boot with Persistent files, settings AND *drivers* that load on boot?

    I have seen https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent but it's a mess. What methods support persistent drivers as well as files and settings and don't screw up lifespan of the flash drive? I'd like to see your personal recommendations on say, Portable Linux, USB Creator, Remastersys + Unetbootin, etc Backstory: I have a Inspiron 1525 that's hard drive has been slowly dying. I want to switch to a live USB/CD/DVD system until I can get it repaired but my laptops internal wifi device requires a network connection by another means for Xubuntu to let it work, and then I have to enter my Wifi key again, and THEN I have to reinstall Skype etc... I'd be damned every time I have to shut the laptop down. I'm ok with making a shell script for installing apps and copying settings as required but a good persistent install should make this old hat and slow and it doesn't take care of drivers. The last time I tried making an ISO with Remastersys it didn't seem to copy all the required settings.

  • iPhone Cannot log into WiFi suddenly [closed]

    I suddenly get into this strange problem. My iPhone has been using the WiFi setup at my home for more than a year. Suddenly it cannot connect to the internet despite still having the full WiFi signal icon. Have an older iPhone 3 GS and it can still browse the net using the same WiFi. So the wireless router should be working. When I check the non-functioning iPhone, it has the "Router" and the "DNS" entries blank while the functioning iPhone has entries on both of the fields. Also the subnet Mask are different. Please help.

  • Making Linux smart about partition or filesystem moves with a UUID selection dialog?

    It seems to me a major part of frustration n00bs have with Linux is due to UUID changes not matching peoples intuition and just working. Does anyone know a way of making GRUB and /etc/fstab just ASK PEOPLE about UUID changes, instead of just failing after people try moving hard disk? Could this be done in Bash or such? Is there a different flag or two somewhere we could simply change? Seems like this, if made to work in common practice could be a major advantage.

  • Linux Tuning for High Traffic JBoss Server with LDAP Binds

    I'm configuring a high traffic Linux server (RedHat) and running into a limit I haven't been able to track down. I need to be able to handle sustained 300 requests per second throughput using Nginx and JBoss. The point of this server is to run checks on a user's account when that user signs in. Each request goes through Nginx to JBoss (specifically Torquebox with JBoss A7 with a Sinatra app) and then makes an LDAP request to bind that user and retrieve several attributes. It is during the bind that these errors occur. I'm able to reproduce this going directly to JBoss, so that rules out Nginx at least. I get a variety of error messages, though oddly JBoss stopped writing to the log file recently. It used to report errors about creating native threads. Now I just see "java.net.SocketException: Connection reset" and "org.apache.http.conn.HttpHostConnectException: Connection to http://my.awesome.server:8080 refused" as responses in jmeter. To the best of my knowledge, I have plenty of available file handles, processes, sockets, and ports, yet the issue persists. Unfortunately, I have very little experience tuning servers. I've found a couple useful documents - Ipsysctl tutorial 1.0.4 and Linux Tuning - but those documents are a bit over my head (and just entering the the configuration described in Linux Tuning doesn't fix my issue.   • Mail to Mailenable group sometimes bounces back because it cannot find one of the group members

    I am using MailEnable Enterprise Edition 6.53. On one of my PostOffices I have a group address set up with 5 members in the group. Under normal circumstances when someone sends a mail to this group then the mail gets successfully forwarded to all 5 members in the group. However, every now and then when a recipient sends to the group they get a bounce back message from us that the mail could not be delivered because one of the user's addresses was not found on the server. This could happen for any one of the 5 users in the group. The error message looks like: Message could not be delivered. Error was: The email address is not available on this system The following recipient(s) could not be reached: [SF:mydomain.com/my_username] What could be causing this and how do I fix it? Obviously the mailbox DOES exist as, under normal circumstances, when someone mails the group the mail gets delivered successfully and forwarded to all group members. All the mailboxes most definitely DO exist on the system. EDIT: I have done more investigation and I see an error in Windows Event Viewer: MailEnable Database Provider error: 0 FAILURE: (SQLDriverConnect), Module: MEIMAPS.exe; Error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired This seems to be related to http://forum.mailenable.com/viewtopic.php?p=53157 and http://www.mailenable.com/kb/content/view.asp?ID=ME020535 but the setups in these links use MySQL as a database whereas we use SQL Server. Maybe this shines some new light on the problem?

  • How to schedule automatic (daily) snapshots of AWS EC2 Windows Instance?

    I have some Windows servers hosted on Amazon EC2. Some run Windows Server 2003 and other run Windows Server 2008. These are EBS-backed instances. Most of the instances also have some additional EBS-volumes attached. We want to schedule a daily snapshot of the windows machines (and also the attached EBS-volumes) to S3 so that we have daily backups available. One would think that this is a very common requirement and would be made available via the AWS Management Console, but alas, it is not. What approaches are available? How do I schedule daily snapshots on our Windows Servers? There are several scripting examples available online for Linux, but not so much for windows. I have had a look at http://sehmer.blogspot.com/2011/04/amazon-ec2-daily-snapshot-script-for.html as well as https://github.com/ronmichael/aws-snapshot-scheduler. Has anyone used one of these approaches and does it work? I have also considered a service like Skeddly which seems inexpensive at first glance but when you look at using it for several servers the price soon escalates to such a point where it seems a better option to create your own solution as you can then apply it to new servers in the future. With Skeddly we'll pay for each server. How do we schedule daily snapshots of our windows instances?

  • How to move Mdadm RAID drive (EBS based) to different AWS Instance

    We have a media-rich web application that is hosted on AWS. We have several Web Servers and we have an NFS server. On the NFS server (Linux server) we have several EBS volumes that are mounted and we've used mdadm to implement the different mounted volumes as a single RAID volume. The Web Servers simply access the NFS storage through a mount point. Amazon has now let us know that they will be performing power maintenance on this server in a couple of days time. Since all our media is on here it would render our site unusable for the hours while Amazon is working on it. We want to try and prevent this downtime. I was thinking that we can prevent server downtime by perhaps setting up a new server temporarily and attaching the EBS drives (raid volume) to that server and have our web servers point there during maintenance. This is a very high risk operation since this involves several terabytes of our production data. What would be the safe way to move over our logical raid drive (md0) to a new amazon instance? I was hoping that I could start with building the new server, mounting the ebs volumes and assembling the RAID partition using mdadm --assemble --scan before unmounting from the existing instance so that I can first test that everything works and thus having it mounted on two instances at the same time, but I don't believe that is possible with the way that filesystems work. How do I move a Linux software RAID to a new machine? suggests a way to move drives, but isn't really a cloud-based question. Perhaps there are simpler ways to prevent system downtime with our solution being hosted on the cloud? I have considered taking an EBS snapshot, but that tries to replicate all the many terabytes of mounted storage, so this is not a practical solution. Any ideas?

I can't see why this doesn't work but at runtime I get this error: 2010-05-27 10:37:29.214 DonorMapProto1[5241:207] *** -[UIButton annotation]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x445a190 2010-05-27 10:37:29.215 DonorMapProto1[5241:207] *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[UIButton annotation]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x445a190' ' I can't see why it's even looking at UIButton because I've subclassed that so it should be looking at the MyDetailButton class to set that annotation property.     Hello, I have a client who are based in the field of mathematics. We are developing, amongst other things, a website. I like to create a mock-up of a drawing tool that an produce some imagery in the background based on some scientific algorithms. The intention being that the may client, later, may create there own. (They use emacs for everything, great client.) I'm look for an answer of where or what to go looking for. Not code specific, pseudocode even, as we can adapt and have not yet settled on a platform. I'm afraid my mathematic stops at the power of two and some trigonometry. Appreciated if they're are any mathematics related students/academics how could enlighten me? What to search for will be accepted? Edit: To summarise/clarify, I want to draw pretty pictures (the design perspective). I want them to have some context (i.e. not just for the sake of pretty images but have some explanation available). In essence I would to create a rendering engine which we can draw the images and we set the style parameters: line, colour, etc... But to pursue this option I want to experiment myself. Thanks Ross

  • Is there tool agnostic terminology for source control activities?

    My team is entering into some discussions on source control (process and possibly tools) and we would like a tool agnostic terminology for the various activities. The environment does have multiple (old) VCS's, and multiple desired (new) VCS's. Is there a standard definition of activities, or at least some commonly accepted set?
