  • generate Grid from template

    - by theXs
Howdy, I've got another question regarding phone 7... I want to generate a couple of Grids in a stackpanel - since they all have the same layout I thought it would be a great idea to use DataTemplates ... But then I found that the GRID Object has no "DataTemplate" Property and now I'm kinda stuck ... the template which I use is the following: <DataTemplate x:Key="Speise"> <Grid> <TextBlock Height="36" Margin="8,43,104,0" TextWrapping="Wrap" Text="TextBlock" VerticalAlignment="Top"/> <TextBlock HorizontalAlignment="Right" Height="36" Margin="0,44,8,0" TextWrapping="Wrap" Text="TextBlock" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="92"/> </Grid> </DataTemplate> The way I now thought of creating my objects is: Grid blubber = (Grid)this.Resources["Speise"]; But that is not working ... I think it's again a really short thing, but I have no clue of how to google for it :(

  • Silverlight for Windows Embedded tutorial (step 6)

    - by Valter Minute
In this tutorial step we will develop a very simple clock application that may be used as a screensaver on our devices and will allow us to discover a new feature of Silverlight for Windows Embedded (transforms) and how to use an “old” feature of Windows CE (timers) inside a Silverlight for Windows Embedded application. Let’s start with some XAML, as usual: <UserControl xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Width="640" Height="480" FontSize="18" x:Name="Clock">   <Canvas x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="#FF000000"> <Grid Height="24" Width="150" Canvas.Left="320" Canvas.Top="234" x:Name="SecondsHand" Background="#FFFF0000"> <TextBlock Text="Seconds" TextWrapping="Wrap" Width="50" HorizontalAlignment="Right" VerticalAlignment="Center" x:Name="SecondsText" Foreground="#FFFFFFFF" TextAlignment="Right" Margin="2,2,2,2"/> </Grid> <Grid Height="24" x:Name="MinutesHand" Width="100" Background="#FF00FF00" Canvas.Left="320" Canvas.Top="234"> <TextBlock HorizontalAlignment="Right" x:Name="MinutesText" VerticalAlignment="Center" Width="50" Text="Minutes" TextWrapping="Wrap" Foreground="#FFFFFFFF" TextAlignment="Right" Margin="2,2,2,2"/> </Grid> <Grid Height="24" x:Name="HoursHand" Width="50" Background="#FF0000FF" Canvas.Left="320" Canvas.Top="234"> <TextBlock HorizontalAlignment="Right" x:Name="HoursText" VerticalAlignment="Center" Width="50" Text="Hours" TextWrapping="Wrap" Foreground="#FFFFFFFF" TextAlignment="Right" Margin="2,2,2,2"/> </Grid> </Canvas> </UserControl> This XAML file defines three grid panels, one for each hand of our clock (we are implementing an analog clock using one of the most advanced technologies of the digital world… how cool is that?). Inside each hand we put a TextBlock that will be used to display the current hour, minute, second inside the dial (you can’t do that on plain old analog clocks, but it looks nice). As usual we use XAML2CPP to generate the boring part of our code. We declare a class named “Clock” and derives from the TClock template that XAML2CPP has declared for us. class Clock : public TClock<Clock> { ... }; Our WinMain function is more or less the same we used in all the previous samples. It initializes the XAML runtime, create an instance of our class, initialize it and shows it as a dialog: int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPTSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow) { if (!XamlRuntimeInitialize()) return -1;   HRESULT retcode;   IXRApplicationPtr app; if (FAILED(retcode=GetXRApplicationInstance(&app))) return -1; Clock clock;   if (FAILED(clock.Init(hInstance, app))) return -1;     UINT exitcode;   if (FAILED(clock.GetVisualHost()->StartDialog(&exitcode))) return -1;   return exitcode; } Silverlight for Windows Embedded provides a lot of features to implement our UI, but it does not provide timers. How we can update our clock if we don’t have a timer feature? We just use plain old Windows timers, as we do in “regular” Windows CE applications! To use a timer in WinCE we should declare an id for it: #define IDT_CLOCKUPDATE 0x12341234 We also need an HWND that will be used to receive WM_TIMER messages. Our Silverlight for Windows Embedded page is “hosted” inside a GWES Window and we can retrieve its handle using the GetContainerHWND function of our VisualHost object. Let’s see how this is implemented inside our Clock class’ Init method: HRESULT Init(HINSTANCE hInstance,IXRApplication* app) { HRESULT retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=TClock<Clock>::Init(hInstance,app))) return retcode;   // create the timer user to update the clock HWND clockhwnd;   if (FAILED(GetVisualHost()->GetContainerHWND(&clockhwnd))) return -1;   timer=SetTimer(clockhwnd,IDT_CLOCKUPDATE,1000,NULL); return 0; } We use SetTimer to create a new timer and GWES will send a WM_TIMER to our window every second, giving us a chance to update our clock. That sounds great… but how could we handle the WM_TIMER message if we didn’t implement a window procedure for our window? We have to move a step back and look how a visual host is created. This code is generated by XAML2CPP and is inside xaml2cppbase.h: virtual HRESULT CreateHost(HINSTANCE hInstance,IXRApplication* app) { HRESULT retcode; XRWindowCreateParams wp;   ZeroMemory(&wp, sizeof(XRWindowCreateParams)); InitWindowParms(&wp);   XRXamlSource xamlsrc;   SetXAMLSource(hInstance,&xamlsrc); if (FAILED(retcode=app->CreateHostFromXaml(&xamlsrc, &wp, &vhost))) return retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=vhost->GetRootElement(&root))) return retcode; return S_OK; } As you can see the CreateHostFromXaml function of IXRApplication accepts a structure named XRWindowCreateParams that control how the “plain old” GWES Window is created by the runtime. This structure is initialized inside the InitWindowParm method: // Initializes Windows parameters, can be overridden in the user class to change its appearance virtual void InitWindowParms(XRWindowCreateParams* wp) { wp->Style = WS_OVERLAPPED; wp->pTitle = windowtitle; wp->Left = 0; wp->Top = 0; } This method set up the window style, title and position. But the XRWindowCreateParams contains also other fields and, since the function is declared as virtual, we could initialize them inside our version of InitWindowParms: // add hook procedure to the standard windows creation parms virtual void InitWindowParms(XRWindowCreateParams* wp) { TClock<Clock>::InitWindowParms(wp);   wp->pHookProc=StaticHostHookProc; wp->pvUserParam=this; } This method calls the base class implementation (useful to not having to re-write some code, did I told you that I’m quite lazy?) and then initializes the pHookProc and pvUserParam members of the XRWindowsCreateParams structure. Those members will allow us to install a “hook” procedure that will be called each time the GWES window “hosting” our Silverlight for Windows Embedded UI receives a message. We can declare a hook procedure inside our Clock class: // static hook procedure static BOOL CALLBACK StaticHostHookProc(VOID* pv,HWND hwnd,UINT Msg,WPARAM wParam,LPARAM lParam,LRESULT* pRetVal) { ... } You should notice two things here. First that the function is declared as static. This is required because a non-static function has a “hidden” parameters, that is the “this” pointer of our object. Having an extra parameter is not allowed for the type defined for the pHookProc member of the XRWindowsCreateParams struct and so we should implement our hook procedure as static. But in a static procedure we will not have a this pointer. How could we access the data member of our class? Here’s the second thing to notice. We initialized also the pvUserParam of the XRWindowsCreateParams struct. We set it to our this pointer. This value will be passed as the first parameter of the hook procedure. In this way we can retrieve our this pointer and use it to call a non-static version of our hook procedure: // static hook procedure static BOOL CALLBACK StaticHostHookProc(VOID* pv,HWND hwnd,UINT Msg,WPARAM wParam,LPARAM lParam,LRESULT* pRetVal) { return ((Clock*)pv)->HostHookProc(hwnd,Msg,wParam,lParam,pRetVal); } Inside our non-static hook procedure we will have access to our this pointer and we will be able to update our clock: // hook procedure (handles timers) BOOL HostHookProc(HWND hwnd,UINT Msg,WPARAM wParam,LPARAM lParam,LRESULT* pRetVal) { switch (Msg) { case WM_TIMER: if (wParam==IDT_CLOCKUPDATE) UpdateClock(); *pRetVal=0; return TRUE; } return FALSE; } The UpdateClock member function will update the text inside our TextBlocks and rotate the hands to reflect current time: // udates Hands positions and labels HRESULT UpdateClock() { SYSTEMTIME time; HRESULT retcode;   GetLocalTime(&time);   //updates the text fields TCHAR timebuffer[32];   _itow(time.wSecond,timebuffer,10);   SecondsText->SetText(timebuffer);   _itow(time.wMinute,timebuffer,10);   MinutesText->SetText(timebuffer);   _itow(time.wHour,timebuffer,10);   HoursText->SetText(timebuffer);   if (FAILED(retcode=RotateHand(((float)time.wSecond)*6-90,SecondsHand))) return retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=RotateHand(((float)time.wMinute)*6-90,MinutesHand))) return retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=RotateHand(((float)(time.wHour%12))*30-90,HoursHand))) return retcode;   return S_OK; } The function retrieves current time, convert hours, minutes and seconds to strings and display those strings inside the three TextBlocks that we put inside our clock hands. Then it rotates the hands to position them at the right angle (angles are in degrees and we have to subtract 90 degrees because 0 degrees means horizontal on Silverlight for Windows Embedded and usually a clock 0 is in the top position of the dial. The code of the RotateHand function uses transforms to rotate our clock hands on the screen: // rotates a Hand HRESULT RotateHand(float angle,IXRFrameworkElement* Hand) { HRESULT retcode; IXRRotateTransformPtr rotatetransform; IXRApplicationPtr app;   if (FAILED(retcode=GetXRApplicationInstance(&app))) return retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=app->CreateObject(IID_IXRRotateTransform,&rotatetransform))) return retcode;     if (FAILED(retcode=rotatetransform->SetAngle(angle))) return retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=rotatetransform->SetCenterX(0.0))) return retcode;   float height;   if (FAILED(retcode==Hand->GetActualHeight(&height))) return retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=rotatetransform->SetCenterY(height/2))) return retcode; if (FAILED(retcode=Hand->SetRenderTransform(rotatetransform))) return retcode;   return S_OK; } It creates a IXRotateTransform object, set its rotation angle and origin (the default origin is at the top-left corner of our Grid panel, we move it in the vertical center to keep the hand rotating around a single point in a more “clock like” way. Then we can apply the transform to our UI object using SetRenderTransform. Every UI element (derived from IXRFrameworkElement) can be rotated! And using different subclasses of IXRTransform also moved, scaled, skewed and distorted in many ways. You can also concatenate multiple transforms and apply them at once suing a IXRTransformGroup object. The XAML engine uses vector graphics and object will not look “pixelated” when they are rotated or scaled. As usual you can download the code here: http://cid-9b7b0aefe3514dc5.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/Clock.zip If you read up to (down to?) this point you seem to be interested in Silverlight for Windows Embedded. • TextBlock Wrapping in WPF Layout

    - by Joel Martinez
Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to do something similar to the twitter silverlight app that Scott Guthrie demoed recently in WPF: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2010/03/18/building-a-windows-phone-7-twitter-application-using-silverlight.aspx Unfortunately, I seem to be having a hard time understanding the wpf layout system in some fundamental way. I've been trying various combinations of horizontalalignment/stretch, width/auto at different levels in the hierarchy, and I can't seem to get the "message" textblock to wrap without assigning an explicit width. All I want is for the text to wrap based on the width of the window (or whatever is the parent container). <Window x:Class="TweeterWin.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300" Loaded="Window_Loaded"> <ScrollViewer Height="auto" > <ListBox Name="tweetList" Height="auto" > <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" Height="132"> <Image Source="{Binding Avatar}" Height="73" Width="73" VerticalAlignment="Top" Margin="0,10,8,0"/> <StackPanel > <TextBlock Text="{Binding User}" TextWrapping="Wrap" Foreground="#FFC8AB14" FontSize="15" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Message}" TextWrapping="Wrap" FontSize="10" /> </StackPanel> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> </ScrollViewer> </Window> As a follow up, if anyone can send any links my way that might help me understand some of these layout fundamentals. I think I understand the main layout options (canvas, grid, stackpanel, etc.), but I dont' understand why I can't get this textblock to wrap in this scenario. Thanks!

  • How to invoke WPF Dispatcher in Nunit?

    - by Reporting Avatar
I want to test an application which renders a text block with a data field value. I would like to get the actual width and actual height, once the rendering completes. Everything works fine. The problem came first, when I tried to test the application. I'm unable to invoke the dispatcher from the test project. Following is the code. this.Loaded += (s, e) => { TextBlock textBlock1 = new TextBlock(); //// Text block value is assigned from data base field. textBlock1.Text = strValueFromDataBaseField; //// Setting the wrap behavior. textBlock1.TextWrapping = TextWrapping.WrapWithOverflow; //// Adding the text block to the layout canvas. this.layoutCanvas.Children.Add(textBlock1); this.Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(DispatcherPriority.Background, (Action)(() => { //// After rendering the text block with the data base field value. Measuring the actual width and height. this.TextBlockActualWidth = textBlock1.ActualWidth; this.TextBlockActualHeight = textBlock1.ActualHeight; //// Other calculations based on the actual widht and actual height. } )); }; I've just started using the NUnit. So, please help me. Thanks

  • WPF Custom ListBox as Buttons Click not firing

  • Why does my GridSplitter not work at all?

    - by Crippledsmurf
I'm migrating a WinForms app to WPF. Everything has gone well so far except in relation to my attempts to use GridSplitter which I can never seam to make resize anything at run-time. To make sure it wasn't just my code I attempted to compile the GridSplitter sample from LearnWPF.com and it doesn't appear to work either. I am expecting to see the standard resize cursor when I mouse over the splitter which doesn't happen, and as far as I can see there is no other visual representation of the splitter in the window either. What am I missing here? <Window x:Class="UI.Test" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Test" Height="300" Width="300"> <Grid> <Grid> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition /> <ColumnDefinition /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <StackPanel Background="#feca00" Grid.Column="0"> <TextBlock FontSize="35" Foreground="#58290A" TextWrapping="Wrap">Left Hand Side</TextBlock> </StackPanel> <GridSplitter/> <Border CornerRadius="10" BorderBrush="#58290A" BorderThickness="5" Grid.Column="1"> <TextBlock FontSize="25" Margin="20" Foreground="#FECA00" TextWrapping="Wrap">Right Hand Side</TextBlock> </Border> </Grid>

  • How can a ListBoxItem property be set in Silverlight at runtime?

    Given this XAML, I need to resize the userControl in response to user input. How can I set a new width for ListBoxItem (or perhaps the StackPanel)? <ScrollViewer x:Name="ScrollViewer" Margin="0" BorderBrush="Transparent" Width="165" VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Auto" HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Hidden"> <ListBox x:Name="AttributeListBox" ItemsSource="{Binding Attributes}" BorderBrush="Red" Width="160" Foreground="AntiqueWhite" Background="Transparent" IsEnabled="False" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch"> <ListBox.ItemContainerStyle> <Style TargetType="ListBoxItem"> <Setter Property="HorizontalAlignment" Value="Stretch"/> <Setter Property="Width" Value="150"/> <Setter Property="Margin" Value="0,-2,0,0"/> <Setter Property="HorizontalContentAlignment" Value="Left" /> <Setter Property="Template" Value="{StaticResource ListBoxItemSansFocus}" /> </Style> </ListBox.ItemContainerStyle> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel x:Name="ListBoxItemStackPanel" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Orientation="Vertical" > <TextBlock FontSize="10" Text="{Binding Key}" Foreground="White" FontWeight="Bold" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="2,0,0,0" TextWrapping="Wrap"/> <TextBlock FontSize="10" Text="{Binding Value}" Foreground="White" Margin="6,-2,0,0" TextWrapping="Wrap"/> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> </ScrollViewer>

  • Silverlight 4: StackPanel doesn't resize, when content gets more narrow

    - by Aaginor
I am using Silverlight 4 with Blend 4. I have a (horizontal) stackpanel that includes some TextBoxes and a Button. The stackpanel is set to stretch to the size that the content uses. The TextBoxes are on autosize too. When I add text to the Textboxes, the textbox size grows and the stackpanel grows too. So far so good. When I remove text from the textboxes, the textbox size shrinks (as excepted), but the stackpanel size doesn't. Is there any trick to make the stackpanel change size, when the content (textboxes) getting smaller? Thanks in advance, Frank Here is the XAML for the UserControl: <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot"> <StackPanel x:Name="StackPanelBorder" Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBox x:Name="TextBoxCharacteristicName" TextWrapping="Wrap" Text="Tex"> </TextBox> <TextBox x:Name="TextBoxSep" TextWrapping="Wrap" Text="=" IsReadOnly="True"> </TextBox> <Button x:Name="ButtonRemove" Content="-" Click="ButtonAddOrRemove_Click"> </Button> </StackPanel> </Grid>

  • Binding Listbox item source to a collection of collections in windows phone 7

    - by Tee
Hi there, I am trying to bind a Listbox ItemSource to a collection of multiple Lists. i.e. List PersonCollection List Person List Collection Now I need to show items from both of these list. In wpf you could use HierarchicalDataTemplate i believe, but not sure how I can do it in windows phone 7. Tried with Blend and it generates the following data template. <DataTemplate x:Key="PersonDataTemplate"> <Grid> <StackPanel Margin="0,0,1,0" Orientation="Vertical" VerticalAlignment="Top"> <TextBlock Margin="0,0,1,0" TextWrapping="Wrap" Text="{Binding Person[0].Name}" d:LayoutOverrides="Width"/> <TextBlock Margin="0,0,1,0" TextWrapping="Wrap" Text="{Binding Collection[0].Total}" d:LayoutOverrides="Width"/> </StackPanel> </Grid> </DataTemplate> Is there another way I can do this? I have tried to set the DataContext of Textbox in DataTemplate to individual arrays but did not seem to work. Cant find anything similar on the net apart from the confirmation that HierarchicalDataTemplate is not supported in Windows Phone 7. I have other ways to do but none elegant.. Thanks in advance. I would like to format a textblock which is binded to a value, to show "R" before the actuall value, is this possible, cause I cannot directly change the value? Thank you <ListBox x:Name="lstbundleListbox" Foreground="White" Height="320" HorizontalAlignment="Center"> <ListBox.ItemContainerStyle> <Style TargetType="ListBoxItem"> <Setter Property="HorizontalContentAlignment" Value="Center" /> </Style> </ListBox.ItemContainerStyle> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel> <TextBlock Text="{Binding name}" TextWrapping="Wrap" HorizontalAlignment="Center"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding cost}" TextWrapping="Wrap" HorizontalAlignment="Center"/> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> <ItemsControl.ItemsPanel> <ItemsPanelTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical"/> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemsPanel> </ListBox> So I basically want the texblock to show R(cost)

  • WPF ComboBox Binding to non string object

    - by Mike L
I'm using MVVM (MVVM Light Toolkit) and have a property on the view model which exposes a list of objects. The objects contain two properties, both strings, which correlate to an abbreviation and a description. I want the ComboBox to expose the pairing as "abbreviation - description". If I use a data template, it does this easily. I have another property on the view model which represents the object that should display as selected -- the chosen item in the ComboBox. I'm binding the ItemsSource to the list, as it represents the universe of available selections, and am trying to bind the SelectedItem to this object. I'm killing myself trying to figure out why I can't get it to work, and feeling more like a fraud by the hour. In trying to learn why this works, I created the same approach with just a list of strings, and a selected string. This works perfectly. So, it clearly has something to do with the typing... perhaps something in choosing equality? Or perhaps it has to do with the data template? Here is the XAML: <Window x:Class="MvvmLight1.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="MainWindow" Height="300" Width="300" DataContext="{Binding Main, Source={StaticResource Locator}}"> <Window.Resources> <ResourceDictionary> <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <ResourceDictionary Source="Skins/MainSkin.xaml" /> </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <DataTemplate x:Key="DataTemplate1"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBlock TextWrapping="Wrap" Text="{Binding CourtCode}"/> <TextBlock TextWrapping="Wrap" Text=" - "/> <TextBlock TextWrapping="Wrap" Text="{Binding CourtDescription}"/> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ResourceDictionary> </Window.Resources> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot"> <ComboBox x:Name="cmbAbbrevDescriptions" Height="35" Margin="25,75,25,25" VerticalAlignment="Top" ItemsSource="{Binding Codes}" ItemTemplate="{DynamicResource DataTemplate1}" SelectedItem="{Binding selectedCode}" /> <ComboBox x:Name="cmbStrings" Height="35" Margin="25" VerticalAlignment="Top" ItemsSource="{Binding strs}" SelectedItem="{Binding selectedStr}"/> </Grid> </Window> And, if helpful, here is the ViewModel: using GalaSoft.MvvmLight; using MvvmLight1.Model; using System.Collections.Generic; namespace MvvmLight1.ViewModel { public class MainViewModel : ViewModelBase { public const string CodesPropertyName = "Codes"; private List<Court> _codes = null; public List<Court> Codes { get { return _codes; } set { if (_codes == value) { return; } var oldValue = _codes; _codes = value; // Update bindings and broadcast change using GalaSoft.Utility.Messenging RaisePropertyChanged(CodesPropertyName, oldValue, value, true); } } public const string selectedCodePropertyName = "selectedCode"; private Court _selectedCode = null; public Court selectedCode { get { return _selectedCode; } set { if (_selectedCode == value) { return; } var oldValue = _selectedCode; _selectedCode = value; // Update bindings and broadcast change using GalaSoft.Utility.Messenging RaisePropertyChanged(selectedCodePropertyName, oldValue, value, true); } } public const string strsPropertyName = "strs"; private List<string> _strs = null; public List<string> strs { get { return _strs; } set { if (_strs == value) { return; } var oldValue = _strs; _strs = value; // Update bindings and broadcast change using GalaSoft.Utility.Messenging RaisePropertyChanged(strsPropertyName, oldValue, value, true); } } public const string selectedStrPropertyName = "selectedStr"; private string _selectedStr = ""; public string selectedStr { get { return _selectedStr; } set { if (_selectedStr == value) { return; } var oldValue = _selectedStr; _selectedStr = value; // Update bindings and broadcast change using GalaSoft.Utility.Messenging RaisePropertyChanged(selectedStrPropertyName, oldValue, value, true); } } /// <summary> /// Initializes a new instance of the MainViewModel class. /// </summary> public MainViewModel() { Codes = new List<Court>(); Court code1 = new Court(); code1.CourtCode = "ABC"; code1.CourtDescription = "A Court"; Court code2 = new Court(); code2.CourtCode = "DEF"; code2.CourtDescription = "Second Court"; Codes.Add(code1); Codes.Add(code2); Court code3 = new Court(); code3.CourtCode = "DEF"; code3.CourtDescription = "Second Court"; selectedCode = code3; selectedStr = "Hello"; strs = new List<string>(); strs.Add("Goodbye"); strs.Add("Hello"); strs.Add("Ciao"); } } } And here is the ridiculously trivial class that is being exposed: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace MvvmLight1.Model { public class Court { public string CourtCode { get; set; } public string CourtDescription { get; set; } } } Thanks!

  • Windows Phone 7: Making ListBox items change dynamically

    - by Chad La Guardia
I am working on creating a Windows Phone app that will play a series of sound clips selected from a list. I am using the MVVM (Model View View-Model) Design pattern and have designed a model for my data, along with a view model for my page. Here is what the XAML for the ListBox looks like: <ListBox x:Name="MediaListBox" Margin="0,0,-12,0" ItemsSource="{Binding Media}" SelectionChanged="MediaListBox_SelectionChanged" HorizontalContentAlignment="Stretch" VerticalContentAlignment="Stretch"> <ListBox.ItemTemplate > <DataTemplate> <StackPanel Margin="0,0,0,17" Width="432" Orientation="Horizontal"> <Image Source="../Media/Images/play.png" /> <StackPanel > <TextBlock Text="{Binding Title}" TextWrapping="Wrap" Style="{StaticResource PhoneTextExtraLargeStyle}"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding ShortDescription}" TextWrapping="Wrap" Margin="12,-6,12,0" Visibility="{Binding ShortDescriptionVisibility}" Style="{StaticResource PhoneTextSubtleStyle}"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding LongDescription}" TextWrapping="Wrap" Visibility="{Binding LongDescriptionVisibility}" /> <StackPanel> <Slider HorizontalContentAlignment="Stretch" VerticalContentAlignment="Stretch" Visibility="{Binding LongDescriptionVisibility}" ValueChanged="Slider_ValueChanged" LargeChange="0.25" SmallChange="0.05" /> </StackPanel> </StackPanel> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> My question is this: I want to be able to expand and collapse part of the items in the ListBox. As you can see, I have a binding for the visibility. That binding is coming from the MediaModel. However, when I change this property in the ObservableCollection, the page is not updated to reflect this. The ViewModel for this page looks like this: public class ListenPageViewModel : INotifyPropertyChanged { public ListenPageViewModel() { this.Media = new ObservableCollection<MediaModel>; } /// <summary> /// A collection for MediaModel objects. /// </summary> public ObservableCollection<MediaModel> Media { get; private set; } public bool IsDataLoaded { get; private set; } /// <summary> /// Creates and adds the media to their respective collections. /// </summary> public void LoadData() { this.Media.Clear(); this.Media.Add(new MediaModel() { Title = "Media 1", ShortDescription = "Short here.", LongDescription = "Long here.", MediaSource = "/Media/test.mp3", LongDescriptionVisibility = Visibility.Collapsed, ShortDescriptionVisibility = Visibility.Visible }); this.Media.Add(new MediaModel() { Title = "Media 2", ShortDescription = "Short here.", LongDescription = "Long here.", MediaSource = "/Media/test2.mp3", LongDescriptionVisibility = Visibility.Collapsed, ShortDescriptionVisibility = Visibility.Visible }); this.IsDataLoaded = true; } public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; private void NotifyPropertyChanged(String propertyName) { PropertyChangedEventHandler handler = PropertyChanged; if (null != handler) { handler(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(propertyName)); } } } The bindings work correctly and I am seeing the data displayed; however, when I change the properties, the list does not update. I believe that this may be because when I change things inside the observable collection, the property changed event is not firing. What can I do to remedy this? I have poked around for some info on this, but many of the tutorials don't cover this kind of behavior. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Edit: As requested, I have added the MediaModel code: public class MediaModel : INotifyPropertyChanged { public string Title { get; set; } public string ShortDescription { get; set; } public string LongDescription { get; set; } public string MediaSource { get; set; } public Visibility LongDescriptionVisibility { get; set; } public Visibility ShortDescriptionVisibility { get; set; } public MediaModel() { } public MediaModel(string Title, string ShortDescription, string LongDescription, string MediaSource, Visibility LongDescriptionVisibility, Visibility ShortDescriptionVisibility) { this.Title = Title; this.ShortDescription = ShortDescription; this.LongDescription = LongDescription; this.MediaSource = MediaSource; this.LongDescriptionVisibility = LongDescriptionVisibility; this.ShortDescriptionVisibility = ShortDescriptionVisibility; } public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; private void NotifyPropertyChanged(String propertyName) { PropertyChangedEventHandler handler = PropertyChanged; if (null != handler) { handler(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(propertyName)); } } } Originally, I did not have this class implement the INotifyPropertyChanged. I did this to see if it would solve the problem. I was hoping this could just be a data object.

  • WPF: TextBox expanding with surrounding Grid but not with text

    - by haagel
I have a problem with a TextBox in an application... A window has a Grid with two columns. The left column contains a control with a constant width but with a height that adapts. The right column contains a TextBox that takes up all remaining space in the Grid (and thereby in the Window). The Grid is given a minimal width and height and is wrapped within a ScrollViewer. If the user resizes the window to be smaller than the minimal widht/height of the Grid, scrollbars are displayed. This is exactly how I want it to be. However, a problem occurs when the user starts typing text. If the text is to long to fit in one line in the TextBox, I want the text to wrap. Therefore I set TextWrapping="Wrap" on the TextBox. But since the TextBox has an automatic width and is wrapped in a ScrollViewer (its actually the whole Grid that is wrapped), the TextBox just keeps expanding to the right. I do want the TextBox to expand if the window is expanded, but I don't want the TextBox to expand by the text. Rather the text should wrap inside the available TextBox. If the text don't fit within the TextBox height, a scrollbar should be displayed within the TextBox. Is there a way to accomplish this? Below is some code that shows my problem. <Window x:Class="AdaptingTextBoxes.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="MainWindow" Height="300" Width="400" Background="DarkCyan"> <Grid Margin="10" Name="LayoutRoot"> <ScrollViewer HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Auto" VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Auto"> <Grid MinWidth="300" MinHeight="200"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="auto" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Button Grid.Column="0" Margin="0,0,10,0" Content="Button" Width="100" /> <TextBox Grid.Column="1" AcceptsReturn="True" TextWrapping="Wrap" ScrollViewer.HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Disabled" ScrollViewer.VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Auto" /> </Grid> </ScrollViewer> </Grid> </Window>

  • Add animation when user control get visible and collapsed In Wpf

    - by sanjeev40084
I have two xaml files MainWindow.xaml and other user control WorkDetail.xaml file. MainWindow.xaml file has a textbox, button, listbox and reference to WorkDetail.xaml(user control which is collapsed). Whenever user enter any text, it gets added in listbox when the add button is clicked. When any items from the listbox is double clicked, the visibility of WorkDetail.xaml is set to Visible and it gets displayed. In WorkDetail.xaml (user control) it has textblock and button. The Textblock displays the text of selected item and close button sets the visibility of WorkDetail window to collapsed. Now i am trying to animate WorkDetail.xaml when it gets visible and collapse. When any items from listbox is double clicked and WorkDetail.xaml visibility is set to visible, i want to create an animation of moving WorkDetail.xaml window from right to left on MainWindow. When Close button from WorkDetail.xaml file is clicked and WorkDetail.xaml file is collapsed, i want to slide the WorkDetail.xaml file from left to right from MainWindow. Here is the screenshot: MainWindow.xaml code: <Window...> <Grid Background="Black" > <TextBox x:Name="enteredWork" Height="39" Margin="44,48,49,0" TextWrapping="Wrap" VerticalAlignment="Top"/> <ListBox x:Name="workListBox" Margin="26,155,38,45" FontSize="29.333" MouseDoubleClick="workListBox_MouseDoubleClick"/> <Button x:Name="addWork" Content="Add" Height="34" Margin="71,103,120,0" VerticalAlignment="Top" Click="Button_Click"/> <TestWpf:WorkDetail x:Name="WorkDetail" Visibility="Collapsed"/> </Grid> </Window> MainWindow.xaml.cs class code: namespace TestWpf { public partial class MainWindow : Window { public MainWindow() { this.InitializeComponent(); } private void Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { workListBox.Items.Add(enteredWork.Text); } private void workListBox_MouseDoubleClick(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { WorkDetail.workTextBlk.Text = (string)workListBox.SelectedItem; WorkDetail.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; } } } WorkDetail.xaml code: <UserControl ..> <Grid Background="#FFD2CFCF"> <TextBlock x:Name="workTextBlk" Height="154" Margin="33,50,49,0" TextWrapping="Wrap" VerticalAlignment="Top" FontSize="29.333" Background="#FFF13939"/> <Button x:Name="btnClose" Content="Close" Height="62" Margin="70,0,94,87" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" Click="btnClose_Click"/> </Grid> </UserControl> WorkDetail.xaml.cs class code: namespace TestWpf { public partial class WorkDetail : UserControl { public WorkDetail() { this.InitializeComponent(); } private void btnClose_Click(object sender, System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs e) { Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; } } } Can anyone tell how can i do this?

  • WPF performance for large number of elements on the screen

    - by Mark
Im currently trying to create a Scene in WPF where I have around 250 controls on my screen and the user can Pan and Zoom in and out of these controls using the mouse. I have run the WPF Performance Suite tools on the application when there are a large number of these controls on the screen (i.e. when the user has zoomed right out) the FPS drops down to around 15 which is not very good. Here is the basic outline of the XAML: <Window> <Window.Resources> <ControlTemplate x:Key="LandTemplate" TargetType="{x:Type local:LandControl}"> <Canvas> <Path Fill="White" Stretch="Fill" Stroke="Black" StrokeThickness="1" Width="55.5" Height="74.687" Data="M0.5,0.5 L55,0.5 L55,74.187 L0.5,74.187 z"/> <Canvas x:Name="DetailLevelCanvas" Width="24.5" Height="21" Canvas.Left="15.306" Canvas.Top="23.972"> <TextBlock Width="21" Height="14" Text="712" TextWrapping="Wrap" Foreground="Black"/> <TextBlock Width="17.5" Height="7" Canvas.Left="7" Canvas.Top="14" Text="614m2" TextWrapping="Wrap" FontSize="5.333" Foreground="Black"/> </Canvas> </Canvas> </ControlTemplate> </Window.Resources> ... <local:LandControl Width="55.5" Height="74.552" Canvas.Top="xxx" Template=" {StaticResource LandTemplate}" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5" Canvas.Left="xxx"> <local:LandControl Width="55.5" Height="74.552" Canvas.Top="xxx" Template=" {StaticResource LandTemplate}" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5" Canvas.Left="xxx"> <local:LandControl Width="55.5" Height="74.552" Canvas.Top="xxx" Template=" {StaticResource LandTemplate}" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5" Canvas.Left="xxx"> <local:LandControl Width="55.5" Height="74.552" Canvas.Top="xxx" Template=" {StaticResource LandTemplate}" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5" Canvas.Left="xxx"> ... and so on... </Window> Ive tried to minimise the details in the control template and I even did a massive find and replace of the controls to just put their raw elements inline instead of using a template, but with no noticeable performance improvements. I have seen other SO questions about this and people say to do custom drawing, but I dont really see how that make sense when you have to zoom and pan like I do. If anyone can help out here, that would be great! Mark

  • Why does VerticalScrollBarVisibility not work in a style in Silverlight?

    - by Edward Tanguay
    VerticalScrollBarVisibility works when I define it inline like this: <UserControl x:Class="TestScrollBar.MainPage" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006"> <UserControl.Resources> <Style TargetType="TextBox" x:Key="EditListContainerContentMultiLineTwoColumn"> <Setter Property="AcceptsReturn" Value="True"/> <Setter Property="Width" Value="400"/> <Setter Property="Height" Value="300"/> <Setter Property="IsReadOnly" Value="False"/> <Setter Property="Margin" Value="0 0 0 20"/> <Setter Property="HorizontalAlignment" Value="Left"/> <Setter Property="TextWrapping" Value="Wrap" /> </Style> </UserControl.Resources> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White" Margin="10"> <StackPanel HorizontalAlignment="Left"> <TextBox Text="this is a test" Style="{StaticResource EditListContainerContentMultiLineTwoColumn}" VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Auto" /> </StackPanel> </Grid> </UserControl> But when I put VerticalScrollBarVisibility in a style, it shows me a blank screen: <UserControl x:Class="TestScrollBar.MainPage" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006"> <UserControl.Resources> <Style TargetType="TextBox" x:Key="EditListContainerContentMultiLineTwoColumn"> <Setter Property="VerticalScrollBarVisibility" Value="Auto"/> <Setter Property="AcceptsReturn" Value="True"/> <Setter Property="Width" Value="400"/> <Setter Property="Height" Value="300"/> <Setter Property="IsReadOnly" Value="False"/> <Setter Property="Margin" Value="0 0 0 20"/> <Setter Property="HorizontalAlignment" Value="Left"/> <Setter Property="TextWrapping" Value="Wrap" /> </Style> </UserControl.Resources> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White" Margin="10"> <StackPanel HorizontalAlignment="Left"> <TextBox Text="this is a test" Style="{StaticResource EditListContainerContentMultiLineTwoColumn}" /> </StackPanel> </Grid> </UserControl> In WPF it works works fine. • Adventures in Windows 8: Working around the navigation animation issues in LayoutAwarePage

    - by Laurent Bugnion
LayoutAwarePage is a pretty cool add-on to Windows 8 apps, which facilitates greatly the implementation of orientation-aware (portrait, landscape) as well as state-aware (snapped, filled, fullscreen) apps. It has however a few issues that are obvious when you use transformed elements on your page. Adding a LayoutAwarePage to your application If you start with a blank app, the MainPage is a vanilla Page, with no such feature. In order to have a LayoutAwarePage into your app, you need to add this class (and a few helpers) with the following operation: Right click on the Solution and select Add, New Item from the context menu. From the dialog, select a Basic Page (not a Blank Page, which is another vanilla page). If you prefer, you can also use Split Page, Items Page, Item Detail Page, Grouped Items Page or Group Detail Page which are all LayoutAwarePages. Personally I like to start with a Basic Page, which gives me more creative freedom. Adding this new page will cause Visual Studio to show a prompt asking you for permission to add additional helper files to the Common folder. One of these helpers in the LayoutAwarePage class, which is where the magic happens. LayoutAwarePage offers some help for the detection of orientation and state (which makes it a pleasure to design for all these scenarios in Blend, by the way) as well as storage for the navigation state (more about that in a future article). Issue with LayoutAwarePage When you use UI elements such as a background picture, a watermark label, logos, etc, it is quite common to do a few things with those: Making them partially transparent (this is especially true for background pictures; for instance I really like a black Page background with a half transparent picture placed on top of it). Transforming them, for instance rotating them a bit, scaling them, etc. Here is an example with a picture of my two beautiful daughters in the Bird Park in Kuala Lumpur, as well as a transformed TextBlock. The image has an opacity of 40% and the TextBlock a simple RotateTransform. If I create an application with a MainPage that navigates to this LayoutAwarePage, however, I will have a very annoying effect: The background picture appears with an Opacity of 100%. The TextBlock is not rotated. This lasts only for less than a second (during the navigation animation) before the elements “snap into place” and get their desired effect. Here is the XAML that cause the annoying effect: <common:LayoutAwarePage x:Name="pageRoot" x:Class="App13.BasicPage1" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:common="using:App13.Common" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d"> <Grid Style="{StaticResource LayoutRootStyle}"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="140" /> <RowDefinition Height="*" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Image Source="Assets/el20120812025.jpg" Stretch="UniformToFill" Opacity="0.4" Grid.RowSpan="2" /> <Grid> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Button x:Name="backButton" Click="GoBack" IsEnabled="{Binding Frame.CanGoBack, ElementName=pageRoot}" Style="{StaticResource BackButtonStyle}" /> <TextBlock x:Name="pageTitle" Grid.Column="1" Text="Welcome" Style="{StaticResource PageHeaderTextStyle}" /> </Grid> <TextBlock HorizontalAlignment="Center" TextWrapping="Wrap" Text="Welcome to my Windows 8 Application" Grid.Row="1" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" FontFamily="Segoe UI Light" FontSize="70" FontWeight="Light" TextAlignment="Center" Foreground="#FFFFA200" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5" UseLayoutRounding="False" d:LayoutRounding="Auto" Margin="0,0,0,153"> <TextBlock.RenderTransform> <CompositeTransform Rotation="-6.545" /> </TextBlock.RenderTransform> </TextBlock> <VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups> [...] </VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups> </Grid> </common:LayoutAwarePage> Solving the issue In order to solve this “snapping” issue, the solution is to wrap the elements that are transformed into an empty Grid. Honestly, to me it sounds like a bug in the LayoutAwarePage navigation animation, but thankfully the workaround is not that difficult: Simple change the main Grid as follows: <Grid Style="{StaticResource LayoutRootStyle}"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="140" /> <RowDefinition Height="*" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid Grid.RowSpan="2"> <Image Source="Assets/el20120812025.jpg" Stretch="UniformToFill" Opacity="0.4" /> </Grid> <Grid> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Button x:Name="backButton" Click="GoBack" IsEnabled="{Binding Frame.CanGoBack, ElementName=pageRoot}" Style="{StaticResource BackButtonStyle}" /> <TextBlock x:Name="pageTitle" Grid.Column="1" Text="Welcome" Style="{StaticResource PageHeaderTextStyle}" /> </Grid> <Grid Grid.Row="1"> <TextBlock HorizontalAlignment="Center" TextWrapping="Wrap" Text="Welcome to my Windows 8 Application" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" FontFamily="Segoe UI Light" FontSize="70" FontWeight="Light" TextAlignment="Center" Foreground="#FFFFA200" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5" UseLayoutRounding="False" d:LayoutRounding="Auto" Margin="0,0,0,153"> <TextBlock.RenderTransform> <CompositeTransform Rotation="-6.545" /> </TextBlock.RenderTransform> </TextBlock> </Grid> <VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups> [...] </Grid> Hopefully this will help a few people, I banged my head on the wall for a while before someone at Microsoft pointed me to the solution ;) Happy coding, Laurent   Laurent Bugnion (GalaSoft) Subscribe | Twitter | Facebook | Flickr | LinkedIn

Why is this and how do I resolve?

I want to find the parent node of the drop target. How do I do it?
