  • alternatives to System.Diagnostics.Process.Start when command is too long

    - by Frank Schwieterman
I have some code which is generating a rather long command that is being sent to System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(). The call fails with a Win32Exception, message "The filename or extension is too long". The path to the program itself is not very long, but the parameters passed in are quite long. I am calling the version where an instance of ProcessStartInfo is passed as the parameter, and in this case its the ProcessStartInfo.Arguments .Field that is very long. (other parameters: CreateNoWindow = true, UseShellExecute = false, RedirectStandardError = true). It looks like the exception is coming from a call to win32 function CreateProcess. Does anyone have an idea of another way to start the process?

  • integrating uppercut and cc.net

    - by deepasun
I am trying to integrate uppercut and cc.net for getting build and revision... What do I have to put in the codebuild folder? while running cc.net, I'm getting svn folder Unable to execute file [D:\CodeBuild\abc\svn]. The file may not exist or may not be executable. ---> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The system cannot find the file specified Without cc.net integration can we get both build and revision incremented? When will build and revision get incremented?

  • wglCreateContext in C# failing but not in managed C++

  • Start process from System Account with a specific User Name

    - by pavel.tuzov
Hi, I'm developing a windows service in C# .net, Account: LocalSystem I want this service to check for all currently logged users if a specific application is running and if not - start this application AS corresponding user name. I provide domain, name, password, but Start() throws Win32Exception exception "Access is denied" process.StartInfo.Domain = domain; process.StartInfo.UserName = name; process.StartInfo.Password = password; process.StartInfo.FileName = fileName; process.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false; process.Start(); The user whose credentials I provide is in administrator group - the application successfully runs if started manually. Is this accomplished in a different way? Thank you!

  • How to determine Windows Java installation location

    - by Lance May
I'm trying to dynamically run a .jar from a C# assembly (using Process.Start(info)). Now, from a console application I am able to just run: ProcessStartInfo info = new ProcessStartInfo("java", "-jar somerandom.jar"); In an assembly, however, I keep getting a Win32Exception of "The system cannot find the file specified" and have to change the line to the full path of Java like so: ProcessStartInfo info = new ProcessStartInfo("C:\\Program Files\\Java\\jre6\\bin\\java.exe", "-jar somerandom.jar"); This obviously won't do. I need a way to dynamically (but declaratively) determine the installed location of Java. I started thinking of looking to the registry, but when I go there I noticed that there were specific keys for the versions and that they could not even be guaranteed to be numeric (e.g. "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.6" and "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.6.0_20"). What would be the most reliable "long-haul" solution to finding the most up-to-date java.exe path from a C# application? Thanks much in advance.

  • Impersonating a user in wrong domain doesn't throw exception

    - by Rita
I've used the common impersonation code and it worked just fine, until I inserted random 'dggdgsdg' in domain - and it worked nonetheless... if (LogonUser(Username, Domain, Password, Logon32LogonInteractive, Logon32ProviderDefault, ref existingTokenHandle) && DuplicateToken(existingTokenHandle, (int)SecurityImpersonationLevel.SecurityDelegation, ref duplicateTokenHandle)) { Identity = new WindowsIdentity(duplicateTokenHandle); ImpersonationContext = Identity.Impersonate(); } else { throw new Win32Exception(Marshal.GetLastWin32Error()); } I used some TestUser on my domain, and it worked. I then switched domain, to random nonsense 'werwerhrg', and it impersonated the TestUser on my domain! Why? I would expect an exception to be thrown, why on earth is it working?

  • Exchange 2010 add mailbox server to DAG error

    - by Michael
Hello, i'm having some problems when adding a second mailbox server to my DAG in Exchange 2010. The test setup goes like this: 1x windows server 2008 (DC/DNS) 2x windows server 2008 (Exchange 2010) I have made sure all services are up and running and that the "Exchange Trusted Subsystem" account is set as a local admin. When i create a DAG i can add the first mailbox server (A) without any problems, but when i go to add the second (B) it gives me an error saying "Unable to contact the Cluster service on 1 other members (member) of the Database availability group. It does the same if i add (B) first and then try to add (A). Here is a part of the log file: [2010-04-05T15:00:27] GetRemoteCluster() for the mailbox server failed with exception = An Active Manager operation failed. • Why won't Google Chrome install on my Windows 7?

    - by quakkels
I can tell something is wrong with my computer. A little history: Google Chrome was not running correctly. When i was using facebook, any link on face that ran an ajax javascript function would not work. No error was being thrown, it just wasn't working. I uninstalled Chrome and reinstalled it. On re-install, a toolbar automatically installed with Chrome. BitTorrentBar. I did not install BitTorrentBar, it installed on it's own. Bad. When BitTorrentBar was active, then ajax functions on facebook worked. When I deactivated or uninstalled BittorrentBar from Chrome extensions, then ajax stopped working. I ran scanned the computer with Avast (free version) and SpyBot Search and Destroy (also free). They found nothing wrong. I uninstalled Chrome using Control Panel and then I went through my file system deleting anything that had "google", "BitTorrent", "chrome", or "conduit". Conduit seems to distribute BitTorrentBar. After doing all that, I tried to reinstall Chrome. I got this error: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The system cannot find the file specified at System.Diagnostics.Process.StartWithShellExecuteEx(ProcessStartInfo startInfo) at System.Diagnostics.Process.Start() at System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(ProcessStartInfo startInfo) at ClickOnceBootStrap.ClickOnceEntry.Main() This error interupts the Chrome install every time! computer scans don't show anything wrong. So then, I thought this might be a .net framework error. Perhaps I deleted something I wasn't supposed to. So I reinstalled .NET Framework 4 and checked the repair option. I also ran Windows Updates. When I tried to download Chrome, again I got the same error as listed above. What should I do?

  • MOSS2007 tries to use ActiveDirectory when I have configured an alternative membership provider

    - by glenatron
I've got a MOSS site that I am trying to configure using Forms authentication and absolutely any kind of membership provider whatsoever. Thus far ActiveDirectory has proved obstructively difficult so I've just whipped up a simple stub membership provider and put it in the GAC. It's a very basic and simple provider but it works fine with an ASP.Net site, I just can't make it work with Sharepoint. On Sharepoint I get the following error when I look for StubProvider:Bob ( or anything else for that matter) from the "Policy For Web Application" people picker: Error in searching user 'StubProvider:bob' : System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Unable to contact the global catalog server at Microsoft.SharePoint.Utilities.SPActiveDirectoryDomain.GetDirectorySearcher() at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls.PeopleEditor.SearchFromGC(SPActiveDirectoryDomain domain, String strFilter, String[] rgstrProp, Int32 nTimeout, Int32 nSizeLimit, SPUserCollection spUsers, ArrayList& rgResults) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Utilities.SPUserUtility.SearchAgainstAD(String input, SPActiveDirectoryDomain domainController, SPPrincipalType scopes, SPUserCollection usersContainer, Int32 maxCount, String customQuery, TimeSpan searchTimeout, Boolean& reachMaxCount) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Utilities.SPActiveDirectoryPrincipalResolver.SearchPrincipals(String input, SPPrincipalType scopes, SPPrincipalSource sources, SPUserCollection usersContainer, Int32 maxCount, Boolean& reachMaxCount) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Utilities.SPUtility.SearchPrincipalFromResolvers(List`1 resolvers, String input, SPPrincipalType scopes, SPPrincipalSource sources, SPUserCollection usersContainer, Int32 maxCount, Boolean& reachMaxCount, Dictionary`2 usersDict). The Provider is named as Authentication Provider for the Site Collection in question. As far as I can tell this is because Sharepoint is still trying to access ActiveDirectory rather than talking to the provider I'm asking it to use. My Sharepoint Central Administration section includes this: <membership> <providers> <add name="StubProvider" type="StubMembershipProvider.Provider, StubMembershipProvider, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=5bd7e2498c3e1a03" /> </providers> </membership> And also: <PeoplePickerWildcards> <clear /> <add key="StubProvider" value="%" /> </PeoplePickerWildcards> Is there a clear reason why this would not be accessible from the PeoplePicker or why it is still trying to use ActiveDirectory? I've made sure I reset IIS and even restarted the server to see if either of those helped but they made no difference.

  • Problem with Windows Service and network printers.

    - by Mohammadreza
I have a Windows Service application that every now and then should print some documents. As far as I know, to print those documents, my service must be run with a user account other than Local Service or Network Service. So i have created a user account and added that to the Administrators group and ran the service with it. With locally installed printers, I don't have any problems because those printers are automatically installed for all accounts. To be able to print with the network printers, I have created another application that syncs the installed printers of the currently logged in user with the user account that my service uses with the rundll32.exe printui.dll,PrintUIEntry command. In Vista and Windows7 I don't have any problems with the syncing of the printers because every time that a printer should be installed the authentication window will open and it asks for the appropriate user account to install that printer (The service user account is not created on the network printers computers) but in XP a find dialog with the "Connecting to {printername}" caption will appear and stops responding, or sometimes it installs the printer but every time service tries to print, a Win32Exception with "A StartDocPrinter call was not issued" message will throw and in the user account that runs the sync application a duplicate printer will be shown and I couldn't delete those printers unless with force (using registry). Am I doing the right thing for printing documents with Windows Services at all? If yes, how can I solve the above-mentioned problem? And if not, what the heck should I do? Thanks.

  • Failure with LogonUser in MC++

    - by Alikar
After fighting with this for a week I have not really gotten anywhere in why it constantly fails in my code, but not in other examples. My code, which while it compiles, will not log into a user that I know has the correct login information. Where it fails is the following line: wi = gcnew WindowsIdentity(token); It fails here because the token is zero, meaning that it was never set to a user token. Here is my full code: #ifndef UNCAPI_H #define UNCAPI_H #include <windows.h> #pragma once using namespace System; using namespace System::Runtime::InteropServices; using namespace System::Security::Principal; using namespace System::Security::Permissions; namespace UNCAPI { public ref class UNCAccess { public: //bool Logon(String ^_srUsername, String ^_srDomain, String ^_srPassword); [PermissionSetAttribute(SecurityAction::Demand, Name = "FullTrust")] bool Logon(String ^_srUsername, String ^_srDomain, String ^_srPassword) { bool bSuccess = false; token = IntPtr(0); bSuccess = LogonUser(_srUsername, _srDomain, _srPassword, 8, 0, &tokenHandle); if(bSuccess) { wi = gcnew WindowsIdentity(token); wic = wi->Impersonate(); } return bSuccess; } void UNCAccess::Logoff() { if (wic != nullptr ) { wic->Undo(); } CloseHandle((int*)token.ToPointer()); } private: [DllImport("advapi32.dll", SetLastError=true)]//[DllImport("advapi32.DLL", EntryPoint="LogonUserW", SetLastError=true, CharSet=CharSet::Unicode, ExactSpelling=true, CallingConvention=CallingConvention::StdCall)] bool static LogonUser(String ^lpszUsername, String ^lpszDomain, String ^lpszPassword, int dwLogonType, int dwLogonProvider, IntPtr *phToken); [DllImport("KERNEL32.DLL", EntryPoint="CloseHandle", SetLastError=true, CharSet=CharSet::Unicode, ExactSpelling=true, CallingConvention=CallingConvention::StdCall)] bool static CloseHandle(int *handle); IntPtr token; WindowsIdentity ^wi; WindowsImpersonationContext ^wic; };// End of Class UNCAccess }// End of Name Space #endif UNCAPI_H Now using this slightly modified example from Microsoft I was able to get a login and a token: #using <mscorlib.dll> #using <System.dll> using namespace System; using namespace System::Runtime::InteropServices; using namespace System::Security::Principal; using namespace System::Security::Permissions; [assembly:SecurityPermissionAttribute(SecurityAction::RequestMinimum, UnmanagedCode=true)] [assembly:PermissionSetAttribute(SecurityAction::RequestMinimum, Name = "FullTrust")]; [DllImport("advapi32.dll", SetLastError=true)] bool LogonUser(String^ lpszUsername, String^ lpszDomain, String^ lpszPassword, int dwLogonType, int dwLogonProvider, IntPtr* phToken); [DllImport("kernel32.dll", CharSet=System::Runtime::InteropServices::CharSet::Auto)] int FormatMessage(int dwFlags, IntPtr* lpSource, int dwMessageId, int dwLanguageId, String^ lpBuffer, int nSize, IntPtr *Arguments); [DllImport("kernel32.dll", CharSet=CharSet::Auto)] bool CloseHandle(IntPtr handle); [DllImport("advapi32.dll", CharSet=CharSet::Auto, SetLastError=true)] bool DuplicateToken(IntPtr ExistingTokenHandle, int SECURITY_IMPERSONATION_LEVEL, IntPtr* DuplicateTokenHandle); // GetErrorMessage formats and returns an error message // corresponding to the input errorCode. • How to Impersonate a user for a file copy over the network when dns or netbios is not available

    - by Scott Chamberlain
I have ComputerA on DomainA running as userA needing to copy a very large file to ComputerB on WorkgroupB which has the ip of 192.168.10.2 to a windows share that only userB has write access to. There is no netbios or dns resolving so the computer must be refrenced by IP I first I tried AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetPrincipalPolicy(System.Security.Principal.PrincipalPolicy.WindowsPrincipal); WindowsIdentity UserB = new WindowsIdentity("192.168.10.2\\UserB", "PasswordB"); //Execption WindowsImpersonationContext contex = UserB.Impersonate() File.Copy(@"d:\bigfile", @"\\192.168.10.2\bifgile"); contex.Undo(); but I get a System.Security.SecurityException "The name provided is not a properly formed account name." So I tried AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetPrincipalPolicy(System.Security.Principal.PrincipalPolicy.WindowsPrincipal); WindowsIdentity webinfinty = new WindowsIdentity("ComputerB\\UserB", "PasswordB"); //Execption But I get "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password." error instead. so then I tried IntPtr token; bool succeded = LogonUser("UserB", "192.168.10.2", "PasswordB", LogonTypes.Network, LogonProviders.Default, out token); if (!succeded) { throw new Win32Exception(Marshal.GetLastWin32Error()); } WindowsImpersonationContext contex = WindowsIdentity.Impersonate(token); (...) [DllImport("advapi32.dll", SetLastError = true)] static extern bool LogonUser( string principal, string authority, string password, LogonTypes logonType, LogonProviders logonProvider, out IntPtr token); but LogonUser returns false with the win32 error "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password" I know my username and password are fine, I have logged on to computerB as that user. Any reccomandations

  • C# - NetUseAdd from NetApi32.dll on Windows Server 2008 and IIS7

    - by Jack Ryan
I am attemping to use NetUseAdd to add a share that is needed by an application. My code looks like this. [DllImport("NetApi32.dll", SetLastError = true, CharSet = CharSet.Unicode)] internal static extern uint NetUseAdd( string UncServerName, uint Level, IntPtr Buf, out uint ParmError); ... USE_INFO_2 info = new USE_INFO_2(); info.ui2_local = null; info.ui2_asg_type = 0xFFFFFFFF; info.ui2_remote = remoteUNC; info.ui2_username = username; info.ui2_password = Marshal.StringToHGlobalAuto(password); info.ui2_domainname = domainName; IntPtr buf = Marshal.AllocHGlobal(Marshal.SizeOf(info)); try { Marshal.StructureToPtr(info, buf, true); uint paramErrorIndex; uint returnCode = NetUseAdd(null, 2, buf, out paramErrorIndex); if (returnCode != 0) { throw new Win32Exception((int)returnCode); } } finally { Marshal.FreeHGlobal(buf); } This works fine on our server 2003 boxes. But in attempting to move over to Server 2008 and IIS7 this doesnt work any more. Through liberal logging i have found that it hangs on the line Marshal.StructureToPtr(info, buf, true); I have absolutely no idea why this is can anyone shed any light on it for tell me where i might look for more information?

  • Access Denied while using System.Diagnostics.Process

    - by Mike C
I am trying to use the unmanaged ImageMagick library in my ASP.NET application from the command line using System.Diagnostics.Process. Basically, users will upload an .eps file to the site, and then I will run the command line command to convert it into .jpg. This is the code I'm using to try and run the command: Dim proc As New System.Diagnostics.Process proc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = True proc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardError = True proc.StartInfo.FileName = "C:\Program Files (x86)\ImageMagick-6.6.1-Q16\convert.exe" proc.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = False proc.StartInfo.Arguments = String.Format("{0} {1}", Server.MapPath("~/logo/test.eps"), _ Server.MapPath("~/certificates/temp/test-1234.jpg")) proc.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = True proc.Start() I am able to run this code just fine on our development Win 2k3 server, but not on our production Win 2k3 Server. I get the error "System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Access is denied". The main between the two servers is that the production is 64-bit and runs Plesk to manage multiple domains. I've tried adding rights asp.net user to the ImageMagick directory. The PS Admin says that in the case of Plesk, it's the same account that I use to access the site in VS using FPE. Does anyone know what I might do in order to allow this process to run on my production server? Thanks, Mike

  • Module not found

    - by TMP
Hi There! I've been working on this one quite a bit and haven't gotten any closer to a solution. I juut dug up my old copy of the WindowsHookLib again - It's available with source at http://www.codeproject.com/KB/DLL/WindowsHookLib.aspx. This library allows Global Windows Mouse/Keyboard/Clipboard Hooks, which is very useful. I'm trying to use the Mouse Hook in here to Capture Mouse-Motion (I could use a Timer that always polls Cursor.Position, but I plan on using more features of WindowsHookLib later). Code as follows: MouseHook mh = new MouseHook(); mh.InstallHook(); mh.MouseMove += new EventHandler<WindowsHookLib.MouseEventArgs>(mh_MouseMove); But on the call to InstallHook(), I get an Exception: "The specified Module could not be found". Strange. Searching, I found that someone thought this occurs because a DLL is not in a place included in the Windows PATH variable, and because placing it in system32 didn't help I went the whole hog and translated the thing to C# for inclusion directly in my project (I was curious how it works). However the error was obstinately persistent, so I dug a bit on this, and found the Code in the Library that is responsible: In InstallHook(), we have IntPtr hinstDLL = Marshal.GetHINSTANCE(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetModules()[0]); this._hMouseHook = UnsafeNativeMethods.SetWindowsHookEx(14, this._mouseProc, hinstDLL, 0); if (this._hMouseHook == IntPtr.Zero) { throw new MouseHookException(new Win32Exception(Marshal.GetLastWin32Error()).Message); } And this (after modification and recompile) tells me that what I'm really getting is a Windows error "ERROR_MOD_NOT_FOUND"! Now, Here I'm stumped. Didn't I just compile the Hook Library directly into my project? (UnsafeMethods.SetWindowsHookEx is just a DllImported Method from user32) Any Answers, or Prods in the right direction, or any hints, pointers or similar are very much appreciated!

  • How can I see which shared folders my program has access to?

    - by Kasper Hansen
My program needs to read and write to folders on other machines that might be in another domain. So I used the System.Runtime.InteropServices to add shared folders. This worked fine when it was hard coded in the main menu of my windows service. But since then something went wrong and I don't know if it is a coding error or configuration error. What is the scope of a shared folder? If a thread in my program adds a shared folder, can the entire local machine see it? Is there a way to view what shared folders has been added? Or is there a way to see when a folder is added? • .Net 2.0 ServiceController.GetServices()

    - by Miles
I've got a website that has windows authentication enable on it. From a page in the website, the users have the ability to start a service that does some stuff with the database. It works fine for me to start the service because I'm a local admin on the server. But I just had a user test it and they can't get the service started. My question is: Does anyone know of a way to get a list of services on a specified computer by name using a different windows account than the one they are currently logged in with? I really don't want to add all the users that need to start the service into a windows group and set them all to a local admin on my IIS server..... Here's some of the code I've got: public static ServiceControllerStatus FindService() { ServiceControllerStatus status = ServiceControllerStatus.Stopped; try { string machineName = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["ServiceMachineName"]; ServiceController[] services = ServiceController.GetServices(machineName); string serviceName = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["ServiceName"].ToLower(); foreach (ServiceController service in services) { if (service.ServiceName.ToLower() == serviceName) { status = service.Status; break; } } } catch(Exception ex) { status = ServiceControllerStatus.Stopped; SaveError(ex, "Utilities - FindService()"); } return status; } My exception comes from the second line in the try block. Here's the error: System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot open Service Control Manager on computer 'server.domain.com'. This operation might require other privileges. --- System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Access is denied --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceController.GetDataBaseHandleWithAccess(String machineName, Int32 serviceControlManaqerAccess) at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceController.GetServicesOfType(String machineName, Int32 serviceType) at TelemarketingWebSite.Utilities.StartService() Thanks for the help/info

  • Suggestions on error handling of Win32 C++ code: AtlThrow vs. STL exceptions

    - by EmbeddedProg
In writing Win32 C++ code, I'd appreciate some hints on how to handle errors of Win32 APIs. In particular, in case of a failure of a Win32 function call (e.g. MapViewOfFile), is it better to: use AtlThrowLastWin32 define a Win32Exception class derived from std::exception, with an added HRESULT data member to store the HRESULT corresponding to value returned by GetLastError? In this latter case, I could use the what() method to return a detailed error string (e.g. "MapViewOfFile call failed in MyClass::DoSomething() method."). What are the pros and cons of 1 vs. 2? Is there any other better option that I am missing? As a side note, if I'd like to localize the component I'm developing, how could I localize the exception what() string? I was thinking of building a table mapping the original English string returned by what() into a Unicode localized error string. Could anyone suggest a better approach? Thanks much for your insights and suggestions.

  • Getting the full-name of the current user, returns an empty string (C#/C++)

    - by Nir
I try to get the full-name of the current log-in user (Fullname, not username). The following code C#, C++ works fine but on XP computers not connected to the Net, I get empty string as result if I run it ~20 minutes after login (It runs OK whithin the first ~20 minutes after login) A Win32 API (GetUserNameEx) is used rather that PrincipalContext since it PrincipalContext may takes up to 15 seconds when working offline. • check if directory exists c#

I am trying to see if a directory exists based on an input field from the user. When the user types in the path, I want to check if the path actually exists. I have some c# code already. • Calling CryptUIWizDigitalSign from .NET on x64
