  • Mac OS X Terminal get in Macintosh HD? For using Git and Github

    I wanted to get started with using Git and Github especially for installing Web software to my htdocs directory. htdocs is the folder in which you put all your websites that then run by using MAMP -- Apache server, PHP, MySQL and stuff. This not the real problem though, the problem is I am in the terminal and see this: imac-van-jeroen-*******-2:~ JeroensiMac$ And using cd ~ or cd .. just results back in the line above, which is usual. The problem is that all my applications and everything really is not on my user but in the Macintosh HD. Macintosh HD/applications, or Macintosh HD/applications/MAMP/htdocs/ I want to be in the Terminal and go to my Macintosh HD (is this referred to as being superuser?). I want to know if this is just my fault for installing everything on my Macintosh HD instead of Macintosh HD/users/JeroensiMac/~. Also I would like to know if its possible at all, and I am just missing something. And If I am not doing anything wrong is it safe to use Git(Github) with directories in my Macintosh HD?

  • Is the Zune HD's audio card better or worse than the iPod touch's?

    Firstly, if this is the wrong site to ask this question I apologize, but I didn't see one for "music players" on the stack exchange website :) After reading a few people online say that music playing from a Zune HD sounds better to them than that on an iPod touch, I was wondering whether there's any truth to that? From what I can tell, the Zune HD uses a Wolfson Microelectronics WM8352, while the first-generation iPod Touch (which the Zune HD was competing with) used a Wolfson Microelectronics WM8758BG, and newer models use the Cirrus Logic CS4398 and CS42L61. Which ones are better (to make the question less subjective, let's say in terms of quality, range, & accuracy of output)? Admittedly, I have almost no idea how everything compares and works together, but it would seem to me that, just by looking at the version numbers, the iPod has been better since it's launch. Is there anything else that effects sound quality? Thanks!

  • What's the best encoding for videos on the Zune?

    I've got videos I want to encode to put on the zune. Have the encoding software (using Expression Encoder), but I'm not sure about what I should transcode to. I used the settings built into EE for the Zune, but the sync software still shows these videos are being converted before sync. I already have to get these videos into an acceptable format, so encoding twice is a waste of time and space. What I'm looking for is a video codec, audio codec, bitrate, WxH, and anything else I need to encode a video so it goes straight from my disk onto my Zune without re-encoding.

  • How do I make the PC Zune download a movie, not stream it?

    As the title suggests - I have bought a TV show series season on PC Zune. My girlfriend watched the show, and now I'd like to be able to watch the show too. The catch - I'm going to go overseas on a trip soon, and I'd like to be able to watch the show from outside the US. Given that Zune won't let me stream things overseas (past experience, anyway), I would like to download the show to my computer and watch it that way. The problem is that although the full season has been "watched" it appears it was only streamed, not downloaded. Or rather, that one episode was downloaded, and the rest streamed. I bought a season pass (so all the episodes at once) and the show was bought, not rented. How do I make Zune download, not stream, a show?

  • Edubuntu boots in low graphics mode. with an Intel HD Graphics system

    I have a HD Intel graphics card in my laptop. It was working fine the first few days with the new version Edubuntu. Now when you start, just before it goes to the part asking for the login password I think the OP means lightdm it sends me to a low graphics mode. Things I've tried: I tried Ctl+Alt+F1. Updated and installed fglrx from the terminal. All my work is all stored there. Please, if anyone knows how to fix this, tell me.   • Windows Phone 8 not interfacing with Zune software

    I just got a Lumia 521 with Windows Phone 8 and am trying to get the device to work with the Zune software on my PC. I still have my Windows Phone 7 device, and the new one is not working the same way. When I plug the WP7 device into the PC's USB port, it automatically fires up Zune and I can sync my podcasts and music etc to the device. But when I plug the Lumia into the PC it doesn't fire up Zune, and if I start Zune manually, it doesn't interface with the phone at all. Perhaps I am missing something and WP8 isn't supposed to use Zune to interface with the phone?

    I have been running a ubuntu 10.04 with a patched version of lirc_zilog for two years. I upgraded to 12.04 and lirc_zilog is no longer working with my HD-PVR. The MythTV wiki reports that it did work out of the box with 11.04.   • Unable to boot Ubuntu 13.10 (nVidia GTX 770m and Intel HD 4600)

    Ever since I bought this laptop I've been trying to install Ubuntu on it. It came with W8 preinstalled. Up to this point, I've been able to boot in UEFI mode with a black screen. I can tell it's trying to use the nVidia card (there's a led on the computer, depending on the color you can tell which GPU is using) and if I press crtl+alt+F1 I can go to console mode. Taking this advantage I tried to install bumblebee and after a successful install the led that indicates which GPU is being used change, indicating that it switched to the Intel HD 4600 graphics. After the installation I tried to initiate the graphic interface (startx) with no success. Any guidance? I've tried other linux distros and so far the only one that is able to boot is Opensuse 12.3 without any issues (but only when I switch to legacy mode instead of UEFI).

  • Flash 10.2 RC + Crystal HD for HW accelerated video on Ubuntu

    I have a netbook with a N450 Atom and a BCM70012 aka Crystal HD card. On Windows 7 I can play HD flash video with very little CPU usage because of the RC of Flash 10.2. I did some reading and saw posts claiming that the Crystal HD card is finally supported by the newer Flash 10.2 RC in Ubuntu but I can't get it to work. I can confirm that flash 10.2 is loaded and used, and there's even a HW acceleration option that is enabled in the settings but performance is horrible. From what I read, the Crystal HD card is supposed to be enabled on 10.10 by default - I don't know if it is. I tried installing drivers for it in various ways but HD flash video is still a slideshow So does anyone have it working? If so, how'd you set it up?

Usage is simple: zuneCard = ZuneCard('ZuneTagHere') You can access things like user information, favorites, recent plays, and most played. The properties are documented (pydoc, under /docs).   • Anybody know how to get podcasts sorted correctly on a Zune?

    If I could understand the logic behind it I could actually manage to get my stuff sorted correctly on the device. It doesn't matter how things are sorted on disk, or in the software itself. As items are added to the sync list they end up sorted in some weird manner which, quite frankly, brings out an anger in me that scares me. A primitive, misshapen and unthinking anger. Kind of like the lumpy guy in Altered States. Frankly, I'm afraid one day its going to burst forth and I will track down the entire Zune team and make them pay for their failures. Help me prevent this from happening. Help me understand what I need to do to ensure my podcasts end up in the order I wish them to be in, not some obscure random order that makes no sense.

For that we will use DVDFab’s HD Decrypter. HD Decrypter is the always free portion of the DVDFab application. What HD Decrypter will do, is remove the copy protection from your DVD, and copy the Video-TS and Audio-TS folders to your hard drive. Once the copy protection is gone, we will use Handbrake to convert the files to MP4 format with H.264 compression. Note: You’ll get full access to all the options in DVDFab  during the 30 trial period. However, the HD Decrypter is free and will continue to work. Ripping the DVD Install both Handbrake and DVDFab HD Decrypter. (Download links below) Once the applications are installed, place your DVD into your DVD drive and open DVDFab. On the welcome screen, click “Start DVDFab.”   You’ll be prompted to choose your region. Click “OK.” The disc is analyzed and opened… You’ll be brought to the main interface. Make sure you have the Full Disc option selected at the left panel and “Copy DVD-Video (VIDEO_TS folder) is selected. Click “Start.” Don’t be confused by the “DVD to DVD” option pop up. We won’t actually be burning to DVD. The HD Decrypter portion of the DVDFab suite is part of the DVD to DVD option. Click “OK.” The DVD will be ripped to your hard drive. When the copy process is complete, you’ll be prompted to insert media to start the write process. We aren’t going to be burning to disc, so just click Cancel then close out of DVDFab.   Converting to MP4 Now we are ready to convert Open Handbrake and click on the “Source” button at the top left. Select DVD / VIDEO_TS folder from the drop down list. Now we need to browse for the location where DVDFab HD Decrypter copied your movie. By default, that location will be the \DVDFab\Temp\FullDisc directory in your Documents folder. For example, in Windows 7, it would be: C:\Users\%username%\Documents\DVDFab\Temp\FullDisc\[Name of Your DVD] Select the folder, and click “OK.” You may be prompted to set a default path in Handbrake. This is an optional step. Click “OK.” If you’d like to set a default destination folder, Go to Tools on the top menu, select Options. On the General tab, click “Browse” to select a destination output folder. Click “Close” when Finished.   Next, click the dropdown list next to “Title.” Select the title that matches the length of the movie. It’s possible you may have see more than one title with a similar length. If so, consult the DVD information, or a site like IMDB.com, to find the proper movie title length. Select your container under Output Settings. This will be your final output file extension. We will be using MP4 for this example. You also have the option of MKV.   If you didn’t set up a default destination folder, you’ll need to select one by clicking the “Browse” button. You can manually customize the output file name and change the output file extension to .mp4 (Unless you prefer the iPod friendly .m4v extension). Settings There are a variety of custom settings that can be changed either through the tabs listed under Output Settings, or by selecting one of the Presets to the right. If converting exclusively for any of the devices listed in the preset list, simply click on that device and the settings will be automatically applied in the Output Settings tabs. For more Universal (non-Apple) devices or output, select the Normal profile.   For the most part, the presets will suit quite nicely. However, you can further customize settings if you’d like. The Picture tab allows you to tweak the size or cropping region. You must change Anamorphic to Loose or Custom to change the size.   The Video tab allows you to choose your codec. H.264 is the default. You also have the option to choose a target (output) size. The Constant Quality is recommended to be set between 59% – 63%. Anything over 70% will likely result in an output file larger than the input without any improved quality. On the Subtitles tab, you can select an available subtitle from the dropdown list and click “Add” to add it to the output file. When you’ve finished any customizations you are ready to begin the conversion process. Click “Start.” A Command window will open and you can follow the process. You’ll probably want to find something to do in the meantime as the process could take a couple of hours. When the process completes, you’re ready to watch your video.   Although it’s a time consuming process that involves a couple steps, this method will give you high quality H.264 video files.   • Conversion of DVC-PRO HD 1080, any free tool?

    Is there any free (as in beer, and if it's possible as in bird) tool to convert a dvd in the format DVC-PRO HD 1080 to a normal/standard dvd format so that I can play it on a normal DVD player? EDIT: I changed the wording a bit. We've a video in DVC-PRO HD 1080 but as far as I know it is a proprietary format. We'd like to create a standard dvd out of it. I'm not really in video encoding and dvd conversion. I thought I need to be more precise. VLC currently doesn't support DVC-PRO HD 1080.

  • Sharing music on NAS with other zunes and ipods

    After being a long time iPod owner, I'm switching to the new Zune with its subscription model. I haven't bought a Zune yet but I'm planning on doing so within the next month or so. I have approximately 40gb worth of music and my girlfriend has her iPod music library around 30gb. I've been trying to figure out how to migrate all our music off of our laptops/desktops and centralize everything on my NAS. In sharing iPod music isn't too bad. Sharing from one machine to all is fairly easy within the iTunes player. As far as storing all the music on a NAS, again, iPods aren't too bad and imagine other systems aren't difficult. But I'm really new to the Zune and I'm beginning to run into some issues. My questions are: Is it possible to store all music from our iPods and Zune subscriptions and share music between the iPod/Zune within the same file share on my NAS? I'm sure it's possible to store music on a share, but I'm not sure how iTunes and the Zune software differs. Is there 3rd party software, maybe something like DoubleTwist that can sync based from NAS to multiple desktop/laptops? I've never used DoubleTwist but it's something that I found that looks close to being what I need. I've never quite done this myself so I'm trying to find a solution that can: a) store music on a network share; b) sync between different devices (zune/ipod) seamlessly.

  • AMD E-450 APU with HD-6320 graphics produces jerky videos

    I try to make videos smooth playing on a Lenovo E325 laptop equipped with AMD E-450 APU. This processor have Ati HD-6320 GPU integrated. I installed ATI proprietary driver (Catalyst 12.04) as described here. Everything went fine and got no errors. However I can not play smooth HD videos.   • Ubuntu 12.04 External HD Issues

    I am experiencing one more problem with my Ubuntu 12.04... I have an External HD (500GB) which is NTFS formatted. I connected this HD on my Ubuntu 12.04 and copied some files. When I connected the HD on a Windows 7 machine I could find the folders (the were visible) but I wasn't able to copy/cut/delete them. However when I opened the folders I could handle the material (mp3s) in them. Does anybody know how can I fix this? How can I fully access and modify folders copied from Ubuntu via a Windows machine? Thanks in advance!

  • Screen tearing (very noticable during video playback) with HD3000 AND HD Radeon 6630m

    I did not have this issue with Ubuntu 11.10. Well, to be clear, I did, but it was easily remedied with compiz workarounds. I have tried both the propriety and open source ati drivers, and the intel HD 3000 (as far as I know) should be part of the Kernel already. So I am pretty much 100% stumped given my general lack of Linux knowledge. I really enjoy this OS, would hate to have to return to Windows (read: HATE) because of something as trivial as video playback. Some details: Lenovo Thinkpad Edge e520 Intel HD 3000/AMD HD Radeon 6630m Ubuntu 12.04 64bit.

  • HD working with IDE USB adapter but not recognised by bios

    I have a Windows XP Pentium III desktop with two hard drives. The first one has the OS and is luckily working. The second drive on the secondary master IDE channel few days back was unable to read some files and since then for some time it was failing and reviving intermittently and now it is always showing as failed on the IDE channel When the HD was intermittenly failing, I was able to copy some data from it to the other drive - also during that time if the system was running and the hard disk failed at that time, the system froze and then i had to reboot. then I got a new 80 gb hdd similar (same make - seagate barracuda) to the earlier failing one, a new data cable for the drive and an IDE to USB adapter. the new hard drive i installed in the previous drive's place (secondary master), formatted it and it worked for 1 day and then it also failed - simultaneously i connected the old hd to the IDE/USB adapter and i could view all the data - some of that data i was able to back up from the old hd to the new hd before the new hd failed the new hd i have tried connecting on the primary channel as the slave disk but when i do that then the bios does not detect either the OS drive or the new drive and the system does not boot surprisingly, the older (previously failed) hd and the new hd are both working fine on the usb channel with the IDE/USB adapter. i have ruled out any problem with the secondary channel since the dvd rom i was earlier using as primary slave have now connected to secondary master and it works fine. i am really confused by this behavior on my system. please can anybody try to solve this for me. thanks.

  • Format External HD on Airport Extreme Base Station?

    I just got an Airport Extreme Base Station. I am planning to use this one replace my current Linksys router. This works fine. My another purpose of getting this device is to use its USB port to connect to several external HDs as my backup Time Machine. I can see one 500GB HD through Airport Base Station. However, I cannot format it by using Disk Utility. What I did is to connect the HD to my iMac directly first and then clean and format the disk by Disk Utility application. Then I move the HD to the Airport Base Station. After that I can designate the HD as my Time Machine destination. Is there any way to format the HD connected to Airport Base Station? Any issues to use an external HD through Airport Base Station for Time Machine backups?
