• Battery Indicator Missing

  Duplicate of: No Battery Status Icon I have just recently upgraded from 11.04 "Natty Narwhal" to 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" on my laptop, but do not have any battery indicator (which should be located between the volume and date indicator in Unity). I have already run sudo apt-get install indicator-power and got the following output: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done indicator-power is already the newest version. indicator-power set to manually installed. The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required: //list of packages Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. In addition, I have already tried reinstalling, but still don't have a battery indicator. What else can I do?

  My powertop reports this for the two audio codec components. 4.85 W 100.0% Device Audio codec hwC0D3: Intel 4.85 W 100.0% Device Audio codec hwC0D0: Realtek I think 10 W for audio is too high. Can somebody please suggest me a way to reduce the power consumption? It'd be nice if someone could educate me on this, I have an idea about codecs in general but I have no clue about their internals?   One of the first models I created for the many-to-many revolution white paper was the Survey one. At the time, it was in Analysis Services Multidimensional, and then we implemented it in Analysis Services Tabular and in Power Pivot, using the DAX language. I recently reviewed the data model and published it in the Survey article on DAX Patterns site. The Survey pattern is the foundation for others, such as the Basket Analysis, and it is widely used in many different business scenario. I was particularly happy to know it has been using to perform data analysis for cancer research! In this article I did some maintenance on the DAX formulas, checking that the proper error handling is part of the formulas, and highlighting some differences in slicers behavior between Excel 2010 and Excel 2013, which could be particularly important for the Survey scenario. As usual, we provide sample workbooks for both Excel 2010 and Excel 2013, and we use DAX Formatter to make the DAX code easier to read. Any feedback will be appreciated!

• 10.04 wont boot after power outage

• Reboot only shuts down and doesn't actually boot again

  I'm running a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 Server on an abmx rack mount server. When I attempt to reboot with sudo shutdown -r now, the machine just shuts down and doesn't come back up without me manually pressing the power button. The machine does have some sort of Intel Boot Agent that usually appears before the BIOS, I'm wondering if it could be causing this. I'm not sure what information is useful for debugging this, but I put the output of lshw in http://pastebin.com/mBy72kTQ

• Won't Hibernate when Battery Critical

  Ubuntu 12.04 64bit refuses to hibernate when battery is critically low. Instead it does a complete shutdown which is unnecessary and can cause loss of data. I have enabled Hibernate (pm-hibernate) on following the common instructions I tested pm-hibernate it is works fine when run manually. I have set my power options to hibernate "When Power is Critically Low". This has also been verified by using dconf Editor. Under org gnome settings-daemon plugins power critical-battery-action it is set to "hibernate". Under the same schema, time-action is set to "120". I would like to see what is happening just prior to this shutdown. I would like to know what logs to search to see if pm-hibernate is actually failing, or if it is being ignored entirely. Barring figuring this out on my own, is there a suggested work around?

EDIT Also in most of applications, characters are white. What could be the problem? and what should I do? 2ND EDIT My ubuntu is 12.04 LTS. I was trying to install some packages for dependencies of allegro game development library, one of the packages was libwxgtk2.8-0, after that a red cross appeared near user name and clock. Then computer became frozen and i had to remove my battery. I know it is a very bad thing. Then when i try to restart my computer, it could not start, it was waiting on black screen with line: Checking battery state... Then i run the above command. Computer could start but characters are white.

  I am looking for a power supply adapter for my USB Hub so it can support at least 2 bus-powered external hard drives. The hub's rating is 5 volts, 2 amperes. I would like to know if it would be OK to buy a power supply adapter rated at less than 2A. I've been looking for power supply adapters and the ones that do support 2A are more expensive (more expensive than the USB hub itself) compared to those that support less than 2A. Will power supply adapter that supports less than 2A (~1-1.5A) work fine to support two external hard drives? The external hard drives are both bus-powered Western Digital My Passport Essentials 250 GB. The OS is Windows XP SP3.

Do they affect the performance of CPU or system? Do they result in increased deviation of performance numbers? (i.e. Do they prevent me from getting reliable performance numbers?) If so, how do I avoid these messages and increasing counters? Would running the performance tests on a well-cooled desktop system help?

• Sun Power Button Won't Shut Down System

  Background: We are running NIS and have NFS mounts from a Solaris 10 workstation to a Solaris 8 server. If the workstation loses its network connection for some reason, when I look at the workstation's console I see repeated messages of the form: <date> <time> <hostname> ypbind[<pid>]: NIS server not responding for domain "<domain>"; still trying. If I try to login at the console as a user, it won't work because it can't authenticate my account through NIS. Also, it won't return to a login prompt again, so I can't log in as root. If I press the power button (don't hold it in) on the workstation, I see: <date> <time> <hostname> power: WARNING: Power off requested from power button or SC, powering down the system! Shutdown started. <date> <time> Changing to init state 5 - please wait. <date> <time+2 minutes> <hostname> power: WARNING: Failed to shut down the system! And continue to see messages of the form: <date> <time> <hostname> ypbind[<pid>]: NIS server not responding for domain "<domain>"; still trying. So, the questions are How do I make NIS stop trying (because I know it will fail)? Why won't it shut down?

  I just unpacked my new Sony Vaio, with windows 8 pro installed. Everything is nice, so I tried setting my power management options. The "When I close the lid" option only list: Hibernate Sleep Shutdown The "Do nothing" option is not present. I've seen loads of stuff on google where people ask or explain how to set this option to "Do nothing", but in all my power plans this option is absent... Can I use a tool to prevent this, or is there a way to force windows to show me this option (and that it actually works)? • 11gr2 DataGuard: Restarting DUPLICATE After a Failure

  One of the great new features that comes in very handy when databases get larger and larger these days is RMAN's capability to duplicate from an active database and even restart a duplicate when it fails. Imagine yourself the problem I had lately; I used the duplicate from active database feature and had to wait for an hour or 6 before all datafiles where transferred.At the end of the process some error occurred because of the syntax. While this error was easily to solve I was afraid I had to redo the complete procedure and transfer the 2.5 TB again. Well, 11gr2 RMAN surprised when I re-ran my command with the following output: Using previous duplicated file +DATA/fin2prod/datafile/users.2968.719237649 for datafile 12 with checkpoint SCN of 183289288148 Using previous duplicated file +DATA/fin2prod/datafile/users.2703.719237975 for datafile 13 with checkpoint SCN of 183289295823 Above I only show a small snippet, but what happend is that RMAN smartly skipped all files that where already transferred ! The documentation says this: RMAN automatically optimizes a DUPLICATE command that is a repeat of a previously failed DUPLICATE command. The repeat DUPLICATE command notices which datafiles were successfully copied earlier and does not copy them again. This applies to all forms of duplication, whether they are backup-based (with and without a target connection) or active database duplication. The automatic optimization of the DUPLICATE command can be especially useful when a failure occurs during the duplication of very large databases. If a DUPLICATE operation fails, you need only run the DUPLICATE again, using the same parameters contained in the original DUPLICATE command. Please see chapter 23 of the 11g Release 2 Database Backup and Recovery User's Guide for more details. B.w.t. be very careful with the duplicate command.
