  • iphone menu navigation with buttons help requested

    - by David
    Hi, I'm trying to program an iphone app that will have several different (sub)apps. Ideally, I want to know how to make the main menu for this app look and behave like the iphone's own app menu, but I can't figure it out. If any one knows a package or library that does this, please let me know. Plan B is to mock one using UIButtons, and here is where I'm having problems. Basically, when I press a button that should push a new view, it calls the push method, but I still see the top view. in the app delegate, I have something like: AppViewController *viewController; App1ViewController *app1ViewController; UINavigationController *navController; and in didFinishLaunching method, something like: viewController = [ [ AppViewController alloc ] initWithAppDelegate: self ]; app1ViewController = [ [App1ViewController alloc ] initWithAppDelegate: self ]; navController = [ [ UINavigationController alloc ] initWithRootViewController:viewController]; [window addSubview:viewController.view]; and 2 methods -(void)app1{[ navController pushViewController: app1ViewController animated:YES ];} -(void)back{[ navController popViewControllerAnimated:YES ];} then I have 2 viewcontrollers in AppViewController.h @interface AppViewController : UIViewController { UINavigationController *navController; UIButton *appbtn1, *appbtn2, *appbtn3, *appbtn4; } -(id)initWithAppDelegate:(id)appDelegate; @end @interface App1ViewController : UIViewController { UITextView *textView; UINavigationController *navController; } -(id)initWithAppDelegate:(id)appDelegate; @end and define a loadView for each viewcontroller. However, when I press the app1 button and the app1 method gets called, it says the view hasa been pushed, but my view remains the buttons view, i.e. the root view. If I press the button again, it tells me I can't repush the app1view, the one I can't see. Any ideas? I can post the full code if that helps. Thank you for your time.

  • Loading animation Memory leak

    - by Ayaz Alavi
    Hi, I have written network class that is managing all network calls for my application. There are two methods showLoadingAnimationView and hideLoadingAnimationView that will show UIActivityIndicatorView in a view over my current viewcontroller with fade background. I am getting memory leaks somewhere on these two methods. Here is the code -(void)showLoadingAnimationView { textmeAppDelegate *textme = (textmeAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setNetworkActivityIndicatorVisible:YES]; if(wrapperLoading != nil) { [wrapperLoading release]; } wrapperLoading = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 320.0, 480.0)]; wrapperLoading.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; wrapperLoading.alpha = 0.8; UIView *_loadingBG = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 320.0, 480.0)]; _loadingBG.backgroundColor = [UIColor blackColor]; _loadingBG.alpha = 0.4; circlingWheel = [[UIActivityIndicatorView alloc] initWithActivityIndicatorStyle:UIActivityIndicatorViewStyleWhiteLarge]; CGRect wheelFrame = circlingWheel.frame; circlingWheel.frame = CGRectMake(((320.0 - wheelFrame.size.width) / 2.0), ((480.0 - wheelFrame.size.height) / 2.0), wheelFrame.size.width, wheelFrame.size.height); [wrapperLoading addSubview:_loadingBG]; [wrapperLoading addSubview:circlingWheel]; [circlingWheel startAnimating]; [textme.window addSubview:wrapperLoading]; [_loadingBG release]; [circlingWheel release]; } -(void)hideLoadingAnimationView { [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setNetworkActivityIndicatorVisible:NO]; wrapperLoading.alpha = 0.0; [self.wrapperLoading removeFromSuperview]; //[NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:0.8 target:wrapperLoading selector:@selector(removeFromSuperview) userInfo:nil repeats:NO]; } Here is how I am calling these two methods [NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:@selector(showLoadingAnimationView) toTarget:self withObject:nil]; and then somewhere later in the code i am using following function call to hide animation. [self hideLoadingAnimationView]; I am getting memory leaks when I call showLoadingAnimationView function. Anything wrong in the code or is there any better technique to show loading animation when we do network calls?

  • In the iPad SplitView template, where's the code that specifies which views are to be used in the Sp

    - by Dr Dork
    In the iPad Programming Guide, it gives the following code example for specifying the two views (firstVC and secondVC) that will be used in the SplitView... - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { MyFirstViewController* firstVC = [[[MyFirstViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"FirstNib" bundle:nil] autorelease]; MySecondViewController* secondVC = [[[MySecondViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"SecondNib" bundle:nil] autorelease]; UISplitViewController* splitVC = [[UISplitViewController alloc] init]; splitVC.viewControllers = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:firstVC, secondVC, nil]; [window addSubview:splitVC.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } but when I actually create a new SplitView project in Xcode, I don't see any code that specifies which views should be added to the SplitView. Here's the code from the SplitView template... - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { // Override point for customization after app launch rootViewController.managedObjectContext = self.managedObjectContext; // Add the split view controller's view to the window and display. [window addSubview:splitViewController.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } Thanks in advance for all your help! I'm going to continue researching this question right now.

  • NSString to NSURL objects

    - by user337844
    Hello, I have an array that I populated with my plist file, which looks something like this: <array> <string>http://www.apple.com</string> <string>http://www.google.com</string> <string>http://www.amazon.com</string> </array> So, I'm looking to convert these NSString objects to NSURL objects when I call them in my didSelectRowAtIndexPath method. Any ideas? This is what I have right now: - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { NSInteger row = [indexPath row]; if (self.viewController == nil) { TemplateViewController *details = [[TemplateViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"TemplateViewController" bundle:nil]; self.viewController = details; [details release]; } NSString *tempURLString = [tieroneurlArray objectAtIndex:row]; NSURL *loadingUrl = [NSURL URLWithString:tempURLString]; [tieroneurlArray addObject:loadingUrl]; viewController.title = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@", [tieroneArray objectAtIndex:row]]; [self.viewController setTableURL:[tieroneurlArray objectAtIndex:row]]; TemplateAppAppDelegate *delegate = [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; [delegate.templateNavController pushViewController:viewController animated:YES]; } And this is how I load the array with the plist: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"tier1Names" ofType:@"plist"]; tieroneArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:path]; NSString *tableURL = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"tier1URL" ofType:@"plist"]; tieroneurlArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:tableURL]; }

  • UINavigationController navigation stack problems in Landscape Mode

    - by David F
    I have a iPhone application that I am currently converting to a Universal Binary to work with the iPad. I have successfully implemented everything I need in terms of layout so that full landscape functionality is now supported in my app (previously I primarily used portrait mode to display content). But, I have one strange problem, and it ONLY occurs in landscape mode: when I push a view controller onto the stack, it takes two taps on the back button to return to the previous view controller!!! The first tap shows a blank view, but with the same name on the left-side back navigation button, the second tap takes the controller back to previous view like it should. I don't have an iPad to test, so I am relying on the simulator. The problem does not show up on the iPhone and doesn't show up if you rotate back to portrait mode. My app consists of a tabbarcontroller with navigation controllers loaded for its vc's: //application delegate - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application //.... WebHelpViewController *vc8 = [[WebHelpViewController alloc] init]; UINavigationController *nv8 = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:vc8]; [self.tabBarController setViewControllers:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:nv1,nv2,nv3,nv4,nv5,nv6,nv7,nv8,nil]]; To implement landscape capability, the UITabBarController is overridden to autorotate when required: //CustomTabBarController.m - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { return [[(UINavigationController *)self.selectedViewController topViewController] shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:interfaceOrientation]; } ... works fine. I navigate into new views using this method SomeViewController *vc = [[SomeViewController alloc] init]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:vc animated:YES]; [vc release]; Has anyone encountered this problem, and do they know if it's only a simulation error?

  • How do I get a UIView to appear instantly?

    - by matsgrip
    I'm trying to create an activity indicator in iPhone app. The problem is that I cannot get it to appear before the actual task i want it to diplay during is already done. Is there something funky about the order in which the iPhone does stuff? Here is my problematic code (in my app delegate): -(BOOL)showProgressView: (NSString *) message { self.progress = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:window.frame]; UIImageView *img = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"squircle.png"]]; [img setAlpha:0.5]; [img setFrame:CGRectMake(94, 173, 133, 133)]; UIActivityIndicatorView *spinner = [[UIActivityIndicatorView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(51.5, 51.5, 30, 30)]; spinner.activityIndicatorViewStyle = UIActivityIndicatorViewStyleWhiteLarge; [img addSubview:spinner]; [self.progress addSubview:img]; [spinner startAnimating]; [img release]; [spinner release]; [window addSubview:self.progress]; return YES; } I then call this code like this: if ([appDelegate showProgressView:@"Loading..:"]) { //My actual code loads data and stuff here but that is not important //drawCtrl is a UIViewController subclass that is instantiated here UINavigationController *navController = [appDelegate navigationController]; [navController pushViewController:drawCtrl animated:YES]; [drawCtrl release]; } The problem is that my activity indicator does not appear until the new view controller is pushed onto the navController's stack. Can I control this in some way? Thanks in advance! -Mats

  • iPhone - UIViewController not rotating when device orientation changes

    - by Ryu
    I have got my own custom UIViewController, which contains a UIScrollView with an UIImageView as it's subview. I would like to make the image to auto rotate when device orientation changes, but it doesn't seem to be working... In the header file, I've got; @interface MyViewController : UIViewController <UIScrollViewDelegate> { IBOutlet UIScrollView *containerView; UIImageView *imageView; } These components are initialised in the loadView function as below; containerView = [[UIScrollView alloc] initWithFrame:frame]; NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://..."]]; UIImage *image = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:data]; imageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:image]; [image release]; [containerView addSubview:imageView]; And I have added the following method, assuming that's all I need to make the view auto-rotate... -(BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { return YES; } MyViewController loads fine with the image I've specified to grab from the URL, and the shouldAutorotate... function is being called, with the correct UIInterfaceOrientation, when I flip the device too. However, didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation method do not get called, and the image doesn't seem to rotate itself... Could someone please point out what I need to add, or what I have done wrong here? Thanks in advance!

  • How to remove view from window?

    - by Wayfarer
    I am using Cocos2D for my main framework. In some cases, I want Cocos2D to load a nib file and have that be the view: window = [[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]]; TargetPlayerViewController *myController = [[TargetPlayerViewController alloc]initWithNibName:@"TargetPlayerViewController" bundle:nil]; [window addSubview:[myController view]]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; This works as expected, and shows the TargetPlayerViewController. Wonderful! What I need to know is: once that view has been loaded, how can I have the view remove itself? I've tried a few different ways, but all of them result in the program crashing. To test I have a button on the view set up which triggers this method: - (IBAction)GTFOnow:(id)sender { NSLog(@"GFTO"); window = [[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]]; //[self.view removeFromSuperview]; //[window makeKeyAndVisible]; } In this method the view should remove itself from the view so I can go back to the Cocos2D. How do I do this?

  • SIGABRT Issues with UIApplication_TVOut and MPVideoView - is there another way??

    - by user365920
    Hi there, I am due to do a demo in a week of an app which i have been working on for a company - until now, i have been using code taken from this useful tutorial here The problem is that this no longer seems to be working - causing a SIGABRT inside of the following (see initWithVideoView): - (void) startTVOut; { // you need to have a main window already open when you call start if (!tvoutWindow) { deviceWindow = [self keyWindow]; MPVideoView *vidView = [[MPVideoView alloc] initWithFrame: CGRectZero]; **tvoutWindow = [[MPTVOutWindow alloc] initWithVideoView:vidView];** [tvoutWindow makeKeyAndVisible]; tvoutWindow.userInteractionEnabled = NO; mirrorView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame: [[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]]; [self reformatTVOutOrientation]; mirrorView.center = vidView.center; [vidView addSubview: mirrorView]; [deviceWindow makeKeyAndVisible]; [NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:@selector(updateLoop) toTarget:self withObject:nil]; } } Can anyone help at all??? This was all working fine, but seems to have stopped working recently - none of my code has changed, so assuming Apple have removed that API (yes, i know it was a private API in the first place, so im not moaning!) Just need to know if there is an alternative way of displaying the contents of my iPhone screen in my app... Many thanks in advance!

  • UITableView madness

    - by kesrut
    Hello, I'm new to iPhone application development. I'm trying to understand how to use UITableView. I'm wrote simple code: - (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView { return 1; } - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { return 1 ; } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *MyIdentifier = @"MyIdentifier"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:MyIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:MyIdentifier] autorelease]; } cell.textLabel.text = @"Hello"; return cell; } UITable shows content, but if i'm drag table contents my application terminates. You can see video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TucTVJVhSD0 I tried to everything with array: - (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView { return 1 ; } - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { return [hello count] ; } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *MyIdentifier = @"MyIdentifier"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:MyIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:MyIdentifier] autorelease]; } cell.textLabel.text = [hello objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; return cell; } - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { [tableView deselectRowAtIndexPath:indexPath animated:NO]; NSLog(@"Selected") ; } - (void) awakeFromNib { hello = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:@"hello", @"world", @"end", nil]; } // Implement viewDidLoad to do additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib. - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; } Content is shown and if I'm selecting item i'm getting: [Session started at 2010-03-16 19:21:48 +0200.] 2010-03-16 19:21:52.295 ViewTest[1775:207] * -[ViewTestViewController respondsToSelector:]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x3911ec0 I'm total new to iPhone programming. And as i see everything i do - i'm just getting application terminated ..

  • Signal "0" error while scrolling a tableview with images

    - by Amitkumar
    Hi, I have a problem while scrolling images on tableview. I am getting a Signal "0" error. I think it is due to some memory issues but I am not able to find out the exact error. The code is as follows, - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [travelSummeryPhotosTable dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier]autorelease]; } //Photo ImageView UIImageView *photoTag = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(5.0, 5.0, 85.0, 85.0)]; NSString *rowPath =[[imagePathsDictionary valueForKey:[summaryTableViewDataArray objectAtIndex:indexPath.section]] objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; photoTag.image = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:rowPath]; [cell.contentView addSubview:photoTag]; [photoTag release]; // Image Caption UILabel *labelImageCaption = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(110.0, 15.0, 190.0, 50.0)]; labelImageCaption.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentLeft; NSString *imageCaptionText =[ [imageCaptionsDictionary valueForKey:[summaryTableViewDataArray objectAtIndex:indexPath.section]] objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; labelImageCaption.text = imageCaptionText; [cell.contentView addSubview:labelImageCaption]; [labelImageCaption release]; return cell; } Thanks in advance.

  • UIScrollView + UIWebView = NO scrollsToTop

    - by sniurkst
    It looks like a problem which could have simple solution, but I haven't found anything what could lead the way to it. I'm using UIWebView inside of UIScrollView and tapping on statusBar (to scroll content to top) is not working. I've made simple test application to see if it's really UIWebViews fault. And it really is. // scrolls to top on status bar tap UIScrollView *sv = [[UIScrollView alloc] init]; sv.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 480); sv.contentSize = CGSizeMake(320, 1200); [self.view addSubview:sv]; // doesn't scroll UIScrollView *sv = [[UIScrollView alloc] init]; sv.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 480); sv.contentSize = CGSizeMake(320, 1200); UIWebView *wv = [[UIWebView alloc] init]; wv.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 100); [sv addSubview:wv]; [self.view addSubview:sv]; So, I think maybe there's something I could disable to make UIWebView not to mess with scrollToTop? Or some kind of workaround also would be nice. Any ideas?

  • Placement/Positioning/Alignment of UIScrollView w.r.t. length of Title NSString

    - by Shoaibi
    I have a scenario where i show stuff like: ----------------------------------- titleview (UITextView) ______________ tArea (UIScrollView) ttextview (UITextView) ----------------------------------- Now here is the condition: Length of titleview's text is dynamic, varies based on user input. Because of the condition I have trouble placing tArea e.g. UIScrollView on the screen, it either appears way too below than the titleview, or overlaps it. Previously what i did: Count the number of characters in titleview.text.length and divide them by 27 (e.g. characters in one line when using boldSystemFontOfSize:20) and multiply by 10 to get the starting X of tArea e.g. UIScrollView. But that sucked. Because i had to duplicate code for rotation to landscape. What do i have now? : CGSize titlesize = [title sizeWithFont:[UIFont systemFontOfSize:20] constrainedToSize:CGSizeMake(5, 90) lineBreakMode:UILineBreakModeWordWrap]; ttitleview = [[UITextView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(5, 5, 310,titlesize.height)]; ttitleview.text = title; ttitleview.font = [UIFont boldSystemFontOfSize:20]; ttitleview.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; ttitleview.editable = NO; [self.view addSubview:ttitleview]; CGSize textsize = [ttext sizeWithFont:[UIFont systemFontOfSize:20] constrainedToSize:CGSizeMake(5, 350) lineBreakMode:UILineBreakModeWordWrap]; tArea = [[UIScrollView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(5, titlesize.height, 310, 230)]; tArea.contentSize = CGSizeMake(310, textsize.height+20); tArea.pagingEnabled = FALSE; tArea.scrollEnabled = TRUE; tArea.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; [self.view addSubview:tArea]; ttextview = [[UITextView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 310, textsize.height + 20)]; ttextview.text = ttext; ttextview.font = [UIFont systemFontOfSize:20]; ttextview.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; ttextview.editable = NO; [tArea addSubview:ttextview]; But its no use. Looking for an elegant solution than this.

  • iPhone: Cell imageViews repeating when loaded from url

    - by araid
    I'm developing a demo RSS reader for iPhone. I obviously have a tableview to display the feeds, and then a detailed view. Some of this feeds have a thumbnail that I want to display on cell.imageview of the table, and some don't. The problem is that when scrolling the table, loaded thumbnails start repeating on other cells, and I end up with a thumbnail on every cell. Here's a piece of my code. I may upload screenshots later - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath{ UITableViewCell * cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier: @"rssItemCell"]; if(nil == cell){ cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:@"rssItemCell"]autorelease]; } BlogRss *item = [[[self rssParser]rssItems]objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; cell.textLabel.text = [item title]; cell.detailTextLabel.text = [item description]; cell.accessoryType = UITableViewCellAccessoryDisclosureIndicator; // Thumbnail if exists if(noticia.imagePath != nil){ NSData* imageData; @try { imageData = [[NSData alloc]initWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:item.imagePath]]; } @catch (NSException * e) { //Some error while downloading data } @finally { item.image = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:imageData]; [imageData release]; } } if(item.image != nil){ [[cell imageView] setImage:item.image]; } return cell; } Any help will be very appreciated.

  • Pass Result of ASIHTTPRequest "requestFinished" Back to Originating Method

    - by Intelekshual
    I have a method (getAllTeams:) that initiates an HTTP request using the ASIHTTPRequest library. NSURL *httpURL = [[[NSURL alloc] initWithString:@"/api/teams" relativeToURL:webServiceURL] autorelease]; ASIHTTPRequest *request = [[[ASIHTTPRequest alloc] initWithURL:httpURL] autorelease]; [request setDelegate:self]; [request startAsynchronous]; What I'd like to be able to do is call [WebService getAllTeams] and have it return the results in an NSArray. At the moment, getAllTeams doesn't return anything because the HTTP response is evaluated in the requestFinished: method. Ideally I'd want to be able to call [WebService getAllTeams], wait for the response, and dump it into an NSArray. I don't want to create properties because this is disposable class (meaning it doesn't store any values, just retrieves values), and multiple methods are going to be using the same requestFinished (all of them returning an array). I've read up a bit on delegates, and NSNotifications, but I'm not sure if either of them are the best approach. I found this snippet about implementing callbacks by passing a selector as a parameter, but it didn't pan out (since requestFinished fires independently). Any suggestions? I'd appreciate even just to be pointed in the right direction. NSArray *teams = [[WebService alloc] getAllTeams]; (currently doesn't work, because getAllTeams doesn't return anything, but requestFinished does. I want to get the result of requestFinished and pass it back to getAllTeams:)

  • How to make UIButton work like Launcher in SpringBoard, when pressed for long timeinterval

    - by KayKay
    In my ViewController I am using UIButton which triggers some action when touchedUpInside. Upto here no problem, but i also want to add another action for touchDown event. More precisely i dont have an idea how to add that action to which event, that will work the same as when App-Icon is pressed longer in springboard which causes springboard enter in editing mode.Actually what i want is : when this button is kept holding for ,say about 2 seconds it will pop-up an alertView without touch being heldUp (with finger is still on button). I have tried with 2 NSdate difference, one of which is allocated when touchedDown and other when touchUpInside. Its working and popping alert,but only after touchedUpInside. I want it to show alert without touch being removed. Here is the code. (IBAction)touchedDown:(id)sender { momentTouchedDown = [[NSDate alloc] init];//class variable NSLog(@"touched down"); } - (IBAction)touchUpInside:(id)sender { NSLog(@"touch lifted Up\n"); NSDate *momentLifted = [[NSDate alloc] init]; double timeInterval = [momentLifted timeIntervalSinceDate:momentTouchedDown]; NSLog(@"time lifted = %@, time down = %@, time diff = %@", momentLifted, momentTouchedDown, [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%g",timeInterval]); [momentLifted release]; if(timeInterval > 2.0) { NSLog(@"AlertBox has been fired"); UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Yes" message:@""//msg delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"Cancel" otherButtonTitles:@"OK" , nil]; [alert show]; [alert release]; } } Please provide me an insight..thanks for help in advance.

  • Google Translate API for iPhone - UTF8 problem in Chinese Translation

    - by Sky Chen
    I've tested a workable translation API url by: http://translate.google.com/translate_a/t?client=t&text=%E5%BB%A3%E5%A0%B4&langpair=zh|zh-CN And it returns the correct result as the following which is in JSON format: {"sentences":[{"trans":"??","orig":"??","translit":"Guangchang"}],"src":"zh-CN"} However, when I try to use this function in XCode, I experienced this problem ... Here is my code: NSData *data; NSString *urlPath = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"/translate_a/t?client=t&text=%@&langpair=zh|zh-CN",qText]; NSURL *url = [[NSURL alloc] initWithScheme:@"http" host:@"translate.google.com" path:urlPath]; NSMutableURLRequest *request = [[[NSMutableURLRequest alloc] init] autorelease]; [request setURL:url]; [request setHTTPMethod:@"GET"]; NSURLResponse *response; NSError *error; data = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:&response error:&error]; NSString *result = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:data encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; //Problem's here. It returns nil. NSLog(result); Initially I guessed it's encoding problem so I tried other encoding as well (NSISOLatin1StringEncoding) , but I got wrong answer: {"sentences":[{"trans":"ã ","orig":"ã ","translit":"Tu¨¯ "}],"src":"zh-CN"} Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Thank you very much!

  • How to load JPG file into NSBitmapImageRep?

    - by Adam
    Objective-C / Cocoa: I need to load the image from a JPG file into a two dimensional array so that I can access each pixel. I am trying (unsuccessfully) to load the image into a NSBitmapImageRep. I have tried several variations on the following two lines of code: NSString *filePath = [NSString stringWithFormat: @"%@%@",@"/Users/adam/Documents/phoneimages/", [outLabel stringValue]]; //this coming from a window control NSImageRep *controlBitmap = [[NSImageRep alloc] imageRepWithContentsOfFile:filePath]; With the code shown, I get a runtime error: -[NSImageRep imageRepWithContentsOfFile:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x100147070. I have tried replacing the second line of code with: NSImage *controlImage = [[NSImage alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:filePath]; NSBitmapImageRep *controlBitmap = [[NSBitmapImageRep alloc] initWithData:controlImage]; But this yields a compiler error 'incompatible type' saying that initWithData wants a NSData variable not an NSImage. I have also tried various other ways to get this done, but all are unsuccessful either due to compiler or runtime error. Can someone help me with this? I will eventually need to load some PNG files in the same way (so it would be nice to have a consistent technique for both). And if you know of an easier / simpler way to accomplish what I am trying to do (i.e., get the images into a two-dimensional array), rather than using NSBitmapImageRep, then please let me know! And by the way, I know the path is valid (confirmed with fileExistsAtPath) -- and the filename in outLabel is a file with .jpg extension. Thanks for any help!
