• Generate HTML pages from some template

  I have an open-source project for which I have to generate HTML pages to put on the web. I wanted to keep everything as simple HTML pages. The problem with this approach is if I need to change the design, I have to goto all the pages and change it. This will be tough as I have lot of pages. Is there some kind of HTML generators which can process simple annotated text files? This way, I can maintain the documentation and website contents as plain text files and run it through this program to generate static HTML pages. This also helps in keeping the design consistent. Any help would be great!

• index.html in subdirectory will not open

  I want to have a website structure like this example.com/ - homepage example.com/solutions/ - this will be the solution parent page example.com/solutions/solution-one - child solution page example.com/solutions/solution-two- child solution page i have setup the example.com/solutions/index.html file so it can be opened as a parent page, but is shows me an error You don't have permission to access /solutions/.html on this server. What is the problem to this, how can i open parent, directory page? I na just using regular html pages, no cms or anything...

• CSS Style Element if it does not contain another specific type of Element [migrated]

  My CSS includes the following: #mainbody a[href ^='http'] { background:transparent url('/images/icons/external.svg') no-repeat top right; padding-right: 12px; } This places an "external" icon next to links that start with "http" (all internal site links are relative). Works perfectly except if I link an Image, it also get this icon. For example: <a href='http://example.com'><img src='whatever.jpg'/></a> would also get the "external" icon next to the image. I can live with this if necessary, but would like to eliminate it. This must be implement in CSS (no JS); must not require any special IDs, Classes, styling in the html for the image or anchor around the image. Is this possible?

  I am making a HTML page that is unpublished and that I just started. The first thing I wanted to do was add a favicon to appear next to the tile. I'm using google chrome an I noticed that other websites have favicons that appear next to the tile in the browser, but mine wont show up. • js includes for html seo-friendly

  I need to do client-side includes on a website for the navigation. The problem is the navigation is currently all html, and since I can't use php i've just been using js to include the html with document.write (). however, i read that this is not good for seo. While i know there are seo-friendly js navigation menus, I was wondering if there's a way to do this while including the html and not having to alter it very much? I also got it to work using embed with html which i know is super hacky but i don't really know that much about js and am frustrated being told not to use server side includes. thanks!!

• css problem lining up some icons...

  I'm having a problem lining up some icons and am new enough to css that I'm not exactly sure how to explain this. So I've attached a picture of what the out put is rendering like. I've also included what the css and html code is. Hopefully someone can help point me in the right direction to help fix this. I want the "edit", "archive", "delete" icons to all line up in the right side exactly the same as the first row in the picture. • IE6 + IE7 CSS problem with overflow hidden

  So I have created a slider for a homepage, that slides some images with a title and teaser text using jQuery. Everything works fine, and I went to check IE and found that IE 6 and 7 kills my slider css completely. I can't figure out why, but for some reason I can't hide the non active slides with overflow: hidden; I've tried tweaking the css back and forth, but haven't been able to figure out what's causing the problem. • CSS-Specifity and CSS Inheritance (concrete question)?

  Hello, i would by thankful for an official link (and section) of the specification for CSS, that explains if: .one two h1 {color:green;font-family:arial;} /*case 1 */ .one two h1 {color:blue;} /*case 2*/ will result in (when evaluated by the browser) .one two h1 {color:blue;font-family:arial;} /*case 3*/ or will it be: .one two h1 {color:blue;} /*case 4*/ ==I have read a lot about inheritance, specifity, cascading etc but I still have not found for the given example which rules apply here. In regard to specifity both elements are equal in specifity the case2 will be the most specify one (as it is equal specific but the last one). But does specifity always apply to the whole selector with ALL properties defined. Or only the the properties that are are in "competition" (and declared in both). thanks!!!!

• Why doesn't this html/css work in ie?

It works in chrome but in i.e. the div is still on the left: <html> <head></head> <body> <div id="container" style="margin:0 auto; width:200px;"> test </div> </body> </html> Everything I've read has said that to center a block element, simply add margin:0 auto and specify a width, so I don't know why this isn't working. I've found tools for Ruby and PHP that will take a CSS file and some separate markup as input and return you the merged result - a single file of markup with all the CSS converted to style attributes. I'm looking for a Perl solution to this problem, but I've not found one on CPAN or by searching Google. Any pointers?   Hi, hows it going, I have searched through the forums and good old google and have found many answers but non seem to work on my page. EDIT: Tried opening in Internet explorer 8 and it seems top exactly how I want it, besides the 2 bottom divs not lining up, Is it possible to do this with an UL and SPAN tags ? I am aiming for a tabbed look, for example, when you click on link 2, the background around link 2 goes black and the black color "flows" into the main content page, sorry if this doesnt make sense, early AM here :D Thanks again

  I constantly find myself creating sites using newer technologies (such as HTML 5 and CSS 3, then adding either backwards compatibility layers or porting entirely to XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.1. This process often involves replacing CSS with sprite images and adding in flash components for advanced asynchronous support. My question is when can I can start to use the modern standards exclusively. Do I need to wait until Internet Explorer 9 is released or is it acceptable to request users switch to a "better" browser? Furthermore, if dropping compatibility for non HTML 5 browsers is an option, is it reasonable to ask mainstream users to install the Google Frame Frame? Thanks.

  I want to know the order of loading the CSS files in a HTML page. My actual requirement is like this: I have more than 10 CSS files in my application. I am importing some 3 to 4 CSS files in each HTML page. The problem is I have duplicate classes that defined in some CSS files. That means I override some of the CSS classes in the CSS files. In some pages it behaves correctly. In some pages it behaves wrongly. I have inline styles defined for some of the DIVs in HTML page also. I am keeping CSS class for that DIVs also. Can anyone know which one will take higher priority or which one loads first ?

• How do I swap triangle icons when doing expanding/collapsing divs with Javascript/CSS

  I have a div that I want to toggle between displaying or not when a user clicks on a piece of text. I have a javascript function that toggles a div on or off. That works fine. What I don't know how to do is to have a triangle that points to the right or down depending on whether the div is open. My HTML looks like this: <a onclick="toggleDiv('myDiv');">Click here to expand or close div</a> <div id="myDiv" style="display:none"> ... </div> How do I add one of those triangles and have it point the right way, ideally with just HTML, Javascript, and CSS? The triangle would appear to the left of the "Click here..." string. Thanks.
