  • Ideas for loading initial data in an iPhone application?

    Hi all, In my app I want to load some initial data to show the user how it works. The app uses a CoreData managed sqllite db. SO far I've thought of 3 options: Write code into a class to programmatically create the data. Create a xml file in the apps resources and load through a NSXmlParser whose delegate creates the entries in the sqllite db. Same as option #2, but use a json file and bring in a 3rd party lib to read it. Are there other options I have not found yet? and given that I'm talking about perhaps 6 records per table when there are 3 tables, which would you choose?

  • Microsoft Excel; Two conditions have to be true then be counted

    I'm working on a spreadsheet that two conditions have to true in order to be counted. If the month is January, and the number next to it is less than or equal to 30, then it's counted. Same rule applies for all the other months. What i'm looking to do is have one big video (latest) and the next three as small thumbs underneath that. Can anyone recommend the best way to do this. I've can get use RSS feed from my youtube page to get a list of the videos. I now need a simple way to embed this info in my template.

  • How do I Print a dynamically created Flex component/chart that is not being displayed on the screen?

    I have a several chart components that I have created in Flex. Basically I have set up a special UI that allows the user to select which of these charts they want to print. When they press the print button each of the selected charts is created dynamically then added to a container. The print dialog will appear but nothing happens when I press OK. So I really have two questions: Is it possible to print flex components/charts when they are not visible on the screen? If so, how do I do it / what am I doing wrong? UPDATE: Well, at least one thing wrong is my use of the percentages in the width and height. Using percentages doesn't really make sense when the Box is not contained in another object. Changing the height and width to fixed values actually allows the printing to progress and solves my initial problem. printSelection.height = 100; printSelection.width = 100; But a new problem arises in that instead of seeing my chart, I see a black box instead. I have previously resolved this issue by setting the background colour of the chart to #FFFFFF but this doesn't seem to be working this time. UPDATE 2: I have seen some examples on the adobe site that add the container to the application but don't include it in the layout. This looks like the way to go. i.e. printSelection.includeInLayout = false; addChild(printSelection);

  • How to place a DIV over jw player when certain condition is met?

    JW player can either playback video in flash or html5. I use a countdown timer in my app between certain videos. Right now the countdown timer is being displayed in a div beneath the jw player. I need to get that timer displayed in a div that covers the entire jw player interface. I'm stuck and could use some help.     Currently, my entire website does updating from SQL parameterized queries. It works, we've had no problems with it, but it can occasionally be very slow. I was wondering if it makes sense to refactor some of these SQL commands into classes so that we would not have to hit the database so often. I understand hitting the database is generally the slowest part of any web application For example, say we have a class structure like this: Project (comprised of) Tasks (comprised of) Assignments Where Project, Task, and Assignment are classes. At certain points in the site you are only working on one project at a time, and so creating a Project class and passing it among pages (using Session, Profile, something else) might make sense. I imagine this class would have a Save() method to save value changes. Does it make sense to invest the time into doing this? Under what conditions might it be worth it?

    Hi I have a number of legacy web controls (ascx) that contains huge amounts of inline C#. The forms contain a number of repeated and duplicate code. Our first plan is to move the code into code behinds per file, then refactor etc... were doing this to upgrade the client to the latest version of their cms At the moment we are going to have to manually copy and paste hundreds files, convert the namespace client-side imports into usings, etc... does anybody PLEASE know of a tool that can do the majority of this work for us ? A client of mine would like to redirect users to different front-ends of his eCommerce site based on a hit-counter (possibly a timer?). important: -The content is moderately different in the two sites, enough to consider them two different websites. Knowing this client he will likely add more drastic content changes and other front-ends. So for this question consider the content to be -This site has a rather large back-end. With affiliate networking, multiple payment gateways, order-tracking, and several other features in the works. It is essential that these two front-ends have identical back-end functionality I know that if it was just a simple CSS swap this would be as simple as an if statement that ran off some kind of counter stored in a DB... but the different HTML markup is throwing me for a loop. Q: How can I serve two different front-ends (HTML/CSS) based on a hit counter? Also, I don't have any clue what to tag this one as...

  • Spawning vim from a node git hook

    I've got a project purely in coffeescript, with git hooks for deployment also written in cs. I don't really want to break away from the language just to use bash for a quick commit message formatter, but I've got a problem spawning vim from the commit-msg hook. I've seen here that when piping to vim, the stdio is not necessarily set correctly to the tty streams. I get how that could cause a problem, but I don't exactly know how to get vim to load correctly using nodes spawn command. At the moment I have... vim = (require 'child_process').spawn('vim', [file], stdio: 'inherit') vim.on 'exit', (err) -> console.log "Exited! [#{err}]" cb?() ...which works fine to spawn a vim process that can r/w from the parents stdio, but when I use this in the hook things go wrong. Vim states that the stdio is not from terminal, and then once opened typing causes escape characters to pop up all over the place. Backspace for example, will produce ^?. Any help would be appreciated!

  • Managing Data Prefetching and Dependencies with .NET Typed Datasets

    I'm using .NET typed datasets on a project, and I often get into situations where I prefetch data from several tables into a dataset and then pass that dataset to several methods for processing. It seems cleaner to let each method decide exactly which data it needs and then load the data itself. However, several of the methods work with the same data, and I want the performance benefit of loading data in the beginning only once. My problem is that I don't know of a good way or pattern to use for managing dependencies (I want to be sure I load all the data that I'm going to need for each class/method that will use the dataset). Currently, I just end up looking through the code for the various classes that will use the dataset to make sure I'm loading everything appropriately. What are good approaches or patterns to use in this situation? Am I doing something fundamentally wrong? Although I'm using typed datasets, this seems like it would be a common situation where prefetching data is used. Thanks!

    Which is the best API to use when accessing a WebCam in .Net? (I know they can be webcam specific, I am willing to buy a new webcam if it means better results). I want to write a desktop application that will take video from a webcam and store it in MPEG4 formats (DivX, Xvid, etc...). I would also like to access bitmap stills from the device so I can do image comparison between frames. I have tried various libraries, and none have really been a great fit (some have performance issues (very inconsistent framerates), some have image quality limitations, some just crash out for seemingly no reason. I want to get high quality video (as high as I can get) and a decent framerate. My webcam is more than up to the job and I was hoping that there would be a nice Managed .Net library around that would help my cause. Are webcam APIs all just incredibly bad?

  • Are macro definitions compatible between MIPS and Intel C compiler?

    I seem to be having a problem with a macro that I have defined in a C program. I compile this software and run it sucessfully with the MIPS compiler. It builds OK but throws the error "Segmentation fault" at runtime when using icc. I compiled both of these on 64 bit architectures (MIPS on SGI, with -64 flag and icc on an intel platform). Is there some magic switch I need to use to make this work correctly on both system? I turned on warnings for the intel compiler, and EVERY one of the places in my program where a macro is invoked throws a warning. Usually something along the lines of mismatched types on the macro's parameters (int to char *) or some such thing.

  • Make error: target pattern contains no '%'. Stop.

    Hi all. I have a project that I have been running on IRIX that builds fine with gmake. I copied the source and make files onto a Redhat machine, and running gmake gives me the error posted in the subject. This is during a part of the make that is building .d dependency files, and they are separated by a colon, which I have read is a no-no, but why does it work on one system and not the other? What is the fix? Thanks

  • Passenger problem: "no such file to load" -- /config/environment

    I've been researching this one and found references to similar problems here and there, but none of them has led to a solution yet. I've installed passenger (2.2.11) and nginx (0.7.64) and when I start things up and hit a Rails URL, I get an error page informing me of a load error: no such file to load -- /path/to/app/config/environment From what I've found online this appears to be some sort of a user/permissions error, but I've tried all the logical fixes: I've made sure that /config/environment.rb is not owned by root, but by a webapp user. I've tried setting passenger_default_user, I've tried setting passenger_user_switching off. I've even tried setting the nginx user, though that shouldn't matter much. I've gotten some differing results, but nothing's actually worked. I'm hoping someone may have the magical combination of settings and permissions for this. I may try backing down to an earlier version of Passenger, because I've never had this issue before; it's been a little while since I set up Passenger though. Thanks for any suggestions.
