  • to store char* from function return value

    - by samprat
    Hi folks, I am trying to implement a function which reads from Serial Port ( Linux) and retuns char*. The function works fine but how would I store return value from function. example of function is char *ReadToSerialPort() { char *bufptr; char buffer[256]; // Input buffer/ / //char *bufptr; // Current char in buffer // int nbytes; // Number of bytes read // bufptr = buffer; while ((nbytes = read(fd, bufptr, buffer+sizeof(buffer)-bufptr -1 )) > 0) { bufptr += nbytes; // if (bufptr[-1] == '\n' || bufptr[-1] == '\r') /*if ( bufptr[sizeof(buffer) -1] == '*' && bufptr[0] == '$' ) { break; }*/ } // while ends if ( nbytes ) return bufptr; else return 0; *bufptr = '\0'; } // end ReadAdrPort //In main int main( int argc , char *argv[]) { char *letter; if(strcpy(letter, ReadToSerialPort()) >0 ) { printf("Response is %s\n",letter); } }

  • Pain removing a perl rootkit

    - by paul.ago
So, we host a geoservice webserver thing at the office. Someone apparently broke into this box (probably via ftp or ssh), and put some kind of irc-managed rootkit thing. Now I'm trying to clean the whole thing up, I found the process pid who tries to connect via irc, but i can't figure out who's the invoking process (already looked with ps, pstree, lsof) The process is a perl script owned by www user, but ps aux |grep displays a fake file path on the last column. Is there another way to trace that pid and catch the invoker? Forgot to mention: the kernel is 2.6.23, which is exploitable to become root, but I can't touch this machine too much, so I can't upgrade the kernel EDIT: lsof might help: lsof -p 9481 COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAMEss perl 9481 www cwd DIR 8,2 608 2 /ss perl 9481 www rtd DIR 8,2 608 2 /ss perl 9481 www txt REG 8,2 1168928 38385 /usr/bin/perl5.8.8ss perl 9481 www mem REG 8,2 135348 23286 /lib64/ld-2.5.soss perl 9481 www mem REG 8,2 103711 23295 /lib64/libnsl-2.5.soss perl 9481 www mem REG 8,2 19112 23292 /lib64/libdl-2.5.soss perl 9481 www mem REG 8,2 586243 23293 /lib64/libm-2.5.soss perl 9481 www mem REG 8,2 27041 23291 /lib64/libcrypt-2.5.soss perl 9481 www mem REG 8,2 14262 23307 /lib64/libutil-2.5.soss perl 9481 www mem REG 8,2 128642 23303 /lib64/libpthread-2.5.soss perl 9481 www mem REG 8,2 1602809 23289 /lib64/libc-2.5.soss perl 9481 www mem REG 8,2 19256 38662 /usr/lib64/perl5/5.8.8/x86_64-linux-threa d-multi/auto/IO/IO.soss perl 9481 www mem REG 8,2 21328 38877 /usr/lib64/perl5/5.8.8/x86_64-linux-threa d-multi/auto/Socket/Socket.soss perl 9481 www mem REG 8,2 52512 23298 /lib64/libnss_files-2.5.soss perl 9481 www 0r FIFO 0,5 1068892 pipess perl 9481 www 1w FIFO 0,5 1071920 pipess perl 9481 www 2w FIFO 0,5 1068894 pipess perl 9481 www 3u IPv4 130646198 TCP 192.168.90.7:60321-www.**.net:ircd (SYN_SENT)

  • mod_perl loses STDOUT in middle of request

    - by puzzled72
Hi, I have been having this weird issue where mod_perl seems to lose STDOUT in the middle of the request. So far I have eliminated everything I could think of. You might have seen this bug related to the following errors in error_log : Apache2 IO flush: (103) Apache2::RequestIO::read: (104) Software caused connection abort They are all the same error. It happens when the perl script running under mod_perl loses STDOUT when trying to print the result back to apache. I only notice this error on my servers running the following: (centos5.4) Perl 5.8.8-27 mod_perl 2.0.4-6 httpd 2.2.3-31 kernel-2.6.18-164.15.1 It's not the code This code has been working for months It's not network related The browser gets the error response from apache. It's not time related I get the error 15 or so seconds after I restart httpd It's not idle httpd related I have tried reducing the min/max SpareServers to 1 It's not load related I get the error even if there are only 10 sessions on httpd It's not related to the "fd < PERLIO_MAX_REFCOUNTABLE_FD" perl 5.8.8 bug I recompiled perl-5.8.8 with the patch mentioned here : https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=559832, same error. It appeared sometime between December 2009 and February 2010 sorry I cannot be more specific Anyone has any idea ? Anything that I have not tested ? Really Puzzled!

  • Validating signature trust with gpg?

    - by larsks
We would like to use gpg signatures to verify some aspects of our system configuration management tools. Additionally, we would like to use a "trust" model where individual sysadmin keys are signed with a master signing key, and then our systems trust that master key (and use the "web of trust" to validate signatures by our sysadmins). This gives us a lot of flexibility, such as the ability to easily revoke the trust on a key when someone leaves, but we've run into a problem. While the gpg command will tell you if a key is untrusted, it doesn't appear to return an exit code indicating this fact. For example: # gpg -v < foo.asc Version: GnuPG v1.4.11 (GNU/Linux) gpg: armor header: gpg: original file name='' this is a test gpg: Signature made Fri 22 Jul 2011 11:34:02 AM EDT using RSA key ID ABCD00B0 gpg: using PGP trust model gpg: Good signature from "Testing Key <[email protected]>" gpg: WARNING: This key is not certified with a trusted signature! gpg: There is no indication that the signature belongs to the owner. Primary key fingerprint: ABCD 1234 0527 9D0C 3C4A CAFE BABE DEAD BEEF 00B0 gpg: binary signature, digest algorithm SHA1 The part we care about is this: gpg: WARNING: This key is not certified with a trusted signature! gpg: There is no indication that the signature belongs to the owner. The exit code returned by gpg in this case is 0, despite the trust failure: # echo $? 0 How do we get gpg to fail in the event that something is signed with an untrusted signature? I've seen some suggestions that the gpgv command will return a proper exit code, but unfortunately gpgv doesn't know how to fetch keys from keyservers. I guess we can parse the status output (using --status-fd) from gpg, but is there a better way?

  • How can I close a port that appears to be orphaned by Xvfb?

    - by Jim Fiorato
I'm running Xvfb on a FC8 Amazon EC2 image. On occasion Xvfb will crash (unable at the moment to find out the reason for the crash), and after crashing the TCP port will appear to be orphaned. I'm unable to get a PID to kill any process that may be using it. I'm starting Xvfb with: Xvfb :7 -screen 0 1024x768x24 & Examples of what I'm working with are below, the Xvfb port is (was) 6007: # netstat -ap Active Internet connections (servers and established) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name tcp 0 0 *:ssh *:* LISTEN 1894/sshd tcp 0 0 *:6007 *:* LISTEN - tcp 0 352 ip-10-84-69-165.ec2.int:ssh c-71-194-253-238.hsd1:51689 ESTABLISHED 2981/0 udp 0 0 *:bootpc *:* 1817/dhclient udp 0 0 *:bootpc *:* 1463/dhclient Active UNIX domain sockets (servers and established) Proto RefCnt Flags Type State I-Node PID/Program name Path unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 871 668/udevd @/org/kernel/udev/udevd unix 2 [ ACC ] STREAM LISTENING 5385 1880/dbus-daemon /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket unix 6 [ ] DGRAM 5353 1867/rsyslogd /dev/log unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 11861 2981/0 unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 5461 1974/crond unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 5451 1904/console-kit-da unix 3 [ ] STREAM CONNECTED 5438 1880/dbus-daemon /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket unix 3 [ ] STREAM CONNECTED 5437 1904/console-kit-da unix 3 [ ] STREAM CONNECTED 5396 1880/dbus-daemon unix 3 [ ] STREAM CONNECTED 5395 1880/dbus-daemon unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 5361 1871/rklogd # lsof -i COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME dhclient 1463 root 3u IPv4 4704 UDP *:bootpc dhclient 1817 root 4u IPv4 5173 UDP *:bootpc sshd 1894 root 3u IPv4 5414 TCP *:ssh (LISTEN) sshd 2981 root 3u IPv4 11825 TCP ip-10-84-69-165.ec2.internal:ssh->c-71-194-253-238.hsd1.il.comcast.net:51689 (ESTABLISHED) Attempting to force the port closed with iptables doesn't seem to work either. iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 6007 -j DROP I'm at a loss as to how to reclaim/free the port. From what I can tell, this port will remain in this state until the EC2 instance is shut down. So, how can I close this port so I can restart Xvfb?

Hi, When I run sshpass -p 'mypass' sshfs 'root'@'68.19.40.16':/ '/dir' -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no,debug It successfully mounts but it runs on foreground. • Bacula v5.0.2 Windows Installation Issues

    - by JohnyD
First off, I am very new to Bacula but I'm very intriqued from what I've read. I'm looking to set up Bacula 5.0.2 on a Windows 2008 R2 server. I've run the installer and at the end it asks me to configure DIR name, DIR password, DIR Address. Windows documentation is somewhat hard to come by and I'm not certain what exactly I'm supposed to enter here. Do I need to create a local account that matches this info? Will the installation process create the account for me? Will this be the account that handles the FD daemon/service? I'm also not certain if Address means network location or local direcory. I apologize for my ignorance. Currently I'm trying to use the following information: Name: john pass: john address: thin1 (server name although I have also tried thin1.fqdm.local and 10.0.0.104) This info allows for the installer to complete successfully. However, when I run the BAT it hangs at, "Connecting to Director thin1:9101". The Bacula File Service is currently running under the local system account. What am I doing wrong? What do I have yet to do? Once I get this working properly I assume I will need to install clients on all my Windows boxes? Also, this is a 64-bit cpu but I am installing the 32-bit client. Are there any issues with this? Should I be using the 32-bit client? Thanks very much for the help.

  • Can't ping a DNS zone on windows server 2008 R2

    - by Roberto Fernandes
I´ve just configured a windows server 2008 r2, but got a lot of problems on DNS role. Let me talk about the server configuration: name: fdserver IP address: 192.168.0.10 I have a DNS zone called "fd.local". This is my domain and it´s working ok. I´ve created a zone called fdserver, and inside this zone a record (A) with "*" as a host. because this is a webserver, i´ve configured apache so if you enter something like "site.fdserver" it will point you to the "site" folder. This is working ok ONLY inside the server. This server is a DNS server too... and have 3 entries: 192.168.0.10 (his own IP), 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (google public DNS). Now start the problems... Most of the computers on my network, CAN join the domain without problems. But just CAN'T ping "something.fdserver". Now comes the strange thing... If I remove the twoo secondary entries on my DNS server (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4), it obvious stop accessing websites (like microsoft.com), but now the computer CAN ping "something.fdserver". I don´t know If I explained correctly... and my English is terrible... but inside the server is all working as it supposed to work. But in the workstation machines, it work only if I remove the secondary DNS!! If you need any details, just ask! thanks!

  • Redis 2.0.3 would not let go of deleted appendonly.aof file after BGREWRITEAOF

    - by Alexander Gladysh
    Ubuntu 10.04.2, Redis 2.0.3 (more details at the end of the question). My AOF file for Redis is getting too large, to the point where it soon would threaten to take whole free disk space on my small-HDD VPS box: $ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/xvda 32G 24G 6.7G 78% / $ ls -la total 3866688 drwxr-xr-x 2 redis redis 4096 2011-03-02 00:11 . drwxr-xr-x 29 root root 4096 2011-01-24 15:58 .. -rw-r----- 1 redis redis 3923246988 2011-03-02 00:14 appendonly.aof -rw-rw---- 1 redis redis 32356467 2011-03-02 00:11 dump.rdb When I run BGREWRITEAOF, the AOF file shrinks, but disk space is not freed: $ ls -la total 95440 drwxr-xr-x 2 redis redis 4096 2011-03-02 00:17 . drwxr-xr-x 29 root root 4096 2011-01-24 15:58 .. -rw-rw---- 1 redis redis 65137639 2011-03-02 00:17 appendonly.aof -rw-rw---- 1 redis redis 32476167 2011-03-02 00:17 dump.rdb $ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/xvda 32G 24G 6.7G 78% / Sure enough, Redis is still holding the deleted file: $ sudo lsof -p6916 COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME ... redis-ser 6916 redis 7r REG 202,0 3923957317 918129 /var/lib/redis/appendonly.aof (deleted) ... redis-ser 6916 redis 10w REG 202,0 66952615 917507 /var/lib/redis/appendonly.aof ... • squid will not listen on specific IP

    - by Chris
I have a public subnet with squid installed. Let's say my subnet is from 1.2.3.2 to 1.2.4.254. When I set the following: http_port 50000 http_port 1.2.3.2:50000 it is working. But when I set: http_port 1.2.4.37:50000 it is not working. It is only working with my first public IP from my subnet. The error I get when it is not working is the following: commBind: Cannot bind socket FD 10 to 1.2.4.37:50000: (99) Cannot assign requested address What is wrong with my configuration? @Zoredache I have a dedicated server and the whole subnet is defined as IP Range. When I use only the port or the first IP and doing netstat -ntlp | grep 46555 I get the following: tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:50000 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 25532/(squid ) When I use my specific IP, then the netstat query will show nothing, as the server does not start. I don't want squid to listen on all or the first IP, it is just a specific one it should listen to.

  • Mysql, SSL and java client problem

    - by CarlosH
I'm trying to connect to an SSL-enabled mysql server from my own java application. After setting up ssl on mysqld, and successfuly tested an account using "REQUIRE ISSUER and SUBJECT", I wanted to use that account in a java app. I've generated a private key (to a file called keystore.jks) and csr using keytool, and signed the csr using my own CA(The same used with mysqld and its certificate). Once signed the csr, I've imported the CA and client cert into the keystore.jks file. When running the application the SSL connection can't be established. Relevant logs: ... • How do I run a stable Windows XP kvm guest on Ubuntu 10.04?

    - by Jean-Paul Calderone
I have three Windows XP guests running on a recently upgraded 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04 system. Occasionally (on the order of once every few days), one of the guests will become non-responsive and the kvm process on the host which is running that guest will start consuming 100% CPU. It will continue to do so until it is killed. When restarted, it will be fine for a while, and then the issue repeats. The kvm command line used to run all three guests is this: /usr/bin/kvm -S -M pc-0.12 -enable-kvm -m 1024 -smp 1 -name bigdog21vmxp1 \ -uuid ea47ff84-125b-16f7-9a4d-a6d0d8bab46a \ -chardev socket,id=monitor,path=/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/bigdog21vmxp1.monitor,server,nowait \ -monitor chardev:monitor \ -localtime \ -boot c \ -drive file=/var/lib/libvirt/images/windowsxp-1.qcow2,if=ide,index=0,boot=on,format=qcow2 \ -net nic,macaddr=54:52:00:02:06:0e,vlan=0,name=nic.0 \ -net tap,fd=58,vlan=0,name=tap.0 \ -chardev pty,id=serial0 \ -serial chardev:serial0 \ -parallel none \ -usb \ -usbdevice tablet \ -vnc 127.0.0.1:1 \ -k en-us \ -vga cirrus \ -soundhw es1370 Why do the systems misbehave this way sometimes? And what configuration can I change in order to fix it? Or, if the problem is due to a bug in kvm, what is the process for isolating a kvm failure so that the developers have a chance of fixing it?

  • VMWare converter performance

    - by bellocarico
Hello, I have a question about my test lab. It's more to understand the concept more than apply this into production: I have an ESXi with few VMs linux/windows configured and I'd like to use VMWare converter to create backups. To speedup the process I decided to create a Windows VM on the same ESXi host where I've installed Windows 7 and VMWare Converter. The Host has a gigabit card but it's currently connected to a 100Mb FD port. Windows 7 sees a 1gb card connected. When I do the backup using VMWare converter I specify the host IP as source and destination, so I thought the copy could be faster then use my laptop across the network. Well, to cut a long sotry short: I get dreadful performance (4Mb/sec). I'm a buit confused on this because despite the fact that the host is running 100Mb communication between VMs and hosts shouldn't (correct me if I'm wrong) have any limitation instead. I did tweak windows 7 to optimise network performane but I got just a little improvement. i still need 4 hours to back up a 50Gb (thin) VM. Additionally I wanted to ask: Would jumbo frame help in this? I know that jumbo frame have to be supported end to end, and the network switch where the host is currently connected doesn't support this, but I was wondering: 1) Does ESXi host support jumbo frames at all? 2) Can I enable it somehow? 3) If I do so, I guess bulk transfert between VMs and host would improve, but would this affect the communication going through the real switch as this doesn't do jumbo? Thanks for reading

  • What is the difference between the Linux and Linux LVM partition type?

  • Weird mouse behaviour. Debian wheezy

    - by DevNoob
When I move my mouse slowly over the desktop the pointer jumps often a few pixels (one or two) in the opposite direction of which I move my mouse. Horribly when trying to set the cursor around some semicolons in eclipse. I guess this is the result of a wrong set resolution of it. I suppose this is because the mouse was set initially really fast and even if I do xset 1/2 3, the mouse is just to fast and unprecise for me. It aready tried to configure the xorg.conf like this: Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Configured Mouse" Driver "mouse" Option "Device" "/dev/mouse" Option "Protocol" "Auto" Option "Name" "Logitech G3" Option "Resolution" "2000" EndSection But with no effect. Maybe because there is no /dev/mouse. This ist the content of dev. Maybe you can tell me which one is the mouse. autofs block bsg btrfs-control bus cdrom cdrw char console core cpu cpu_dma_latency disk dvd dvdrw fd fd0 full fuse fw0 hidraw0 hidraw1 hpet input kmsg log loop0 loop1 loop2 loop3 loop4 loop5 loop6 loop7 loop-control MAKEDEV mapper mcelog mem net network_latency network_throughput null nvidia0 nvidiactl oldmem port ppp printer psaux ptmx pts random rfkill root rtc rtc0 sda sda1 sda2 sda3 sda5 sda6 sda7 sda8 sdb sdb1 sg0 sg1 sg2 shm snapshot snd sndstat sr0 stderr stdin stdout tty tty0 tty1 tty10 tty11 tty12 tty13 tty14 tty15 tty16 tty17 tty18 tty19 tty2 tty20 tty21 tty22 tty23 tty24 tty25 tty26 tty27 tty28 tty29 tty3 tty30 tty31 tty32 tty33 tty34 tty35 tty36 tty37 tty38 tty39 tty4 tty40 tty41 tty42 tty43 tty44 tty45 tty46 tty47 tty48 tty49 tty5 tty50 tty51 tty52 tty53 tty54 tty55 tty56 tty57 tty58 tty59 tty6 tty60 tty61 tty62 tty63 tty7 tty8 tty9 ttyS0 ttyS1 ttyS2 ttyS3 uinput urandom usb vcs vcs1 vcs2 vcs3 vcs4 vcs5 vcs6 vcs7 vcsa vcsa1 vcsa2 vcsa3 vcsa4 vcsa5 vcsa6 vcsa7 vga_arbiter vmci vmmon vmnet0 vmnet1 vmnet8 vsock watchdog xconsole zero So my question is: How do I setup my mouse correctly in Debian wheezy?
