• Problems installing rails on Ubuntu 12.04. Rails gems library is empty

  I got some problem installing rails on Ubuntu 12.04. I have rails working on my Ubuntu for a little time. But for some reason I uninstall rails. When I decided to install it again with sudo gem install rails . The command rails -v doesn't work. When I run the command sudo gem install rails there is no error occurring just a message that saying: Successfully installed rails-3.2.6 I look at the folder /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rails-3.2.6 and it is completely empty? I wonder how I can fix this problem?

You must install the Java Development Kit, the rjb ruby gem, and set the $JAVA_HOME variable. [-] Falling back to static signed applet. • Unicorn 3 throwing tons of errors (Rails 3.0.3, Unicorn 3.0)

  I just tried to upgrade to Unicorn 3.0. I changed my Gemfile and did a bundle install. When restarting my Unicorn I got tons of errors beginning with: Unhandled listen loop exception #<Errno::ENOSYS: Function not implemented - accept>. /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/unicorn-3.0.0/lib/unicorn/http_server.rb:593:in `kgio_tryaccept' I’m on Ubuntu 10.04. And, can anyone explain to me why the heck I can’t use an older version of a Gem than the most recent installed? After getting the errors above I just changed the version number of Unicorn in my Gemfile to 1.1.4. But this didn’t solve the problem, Ruby told me that You have already activated unicorn 3.0.0, but your Gemfile requires unicorn 1.1.4. Consider using bundle exec. (Gem::LoadError) Do I really have to? Thanks in advance for your help, guys.

  I've installed ruby 1.9 from source, and tried installing gem 'bundler': < gem install bundler > /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/yaml.rb:56:in `<top (required)>': > It seems your ruby installation is missing psych (for YAML output). > To eliminate this warning, please install libyaml and reinstall your ruby. > .... I've not been able to cleanly uninstall ruby (wtf?!), and installing libyaml at this point didn't help either. So it seems I've ended up with a fk-ed up server since I can't rollback nor fix the issue. Of course, I do have backups, but this situation is ridiculous nonetheless. Surely there must be a real fix?

• Installing Paperclip - "undefined method `has_attached_file` for" - Ruby on Rails

  I just installed the plugin for Paperclip and I am getting an error message "undefined method has_attached_file for. Not sure why I am getting this. Here is the full error message. NoMethodError (undefined method `has_attached_file' for #<Class:0x10338acd0>): /Users/bgadoci/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/will_paginate-2.3.12/lib/will_paginate/finder.rb:170:in `method_missing' app/models/post.rb:2 app/controllers/posts_controller.rb:50:in `show' For some reason it is referencing the will_paginate gem. From what I can find, it seems that either there is something wrong w/ my PostsController#index or perhaps a previously attempt at installing the gem instead of the plugin (in which case I have read I should be able to remedy through the /config/environments.rb file somehow). I didn't think that previous gem installation would matter as I did it in an old version of the site that I trashed before installing the plugin. In the current version of the site I show that the Table has been updated with the Paperclip columns after migration. • ubuntu 11.10 foreman error

  Like this post I am also trying to complete this heroku tutorial I have installed and used everything (node.js, npm, express) successfully until I got to Foreman. I installed Foreman by first installing Ruby: alex@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install ruby1.9.1 then installing Foreman. • Why google return soft 404 when I redirect on signup page?

  Since one month, I've got an increased "soft 404" reported by google webmaster tools but work well for users. I made some fix but can't figure out how to solve it. Configuration (maybe useless): I have a website built with rails 3.1 Authentication is handled by the gem Devise Problem: On this page http://en.bemyboat.com/yacht-charter/9965-sailboat-beneteau-oceanis-43 when you click on "Ask a Boat request" (a simple form, in GET to : http://en.bemyboat.com/boat_requests/new/9965) you are redirected with the http status 302 to sign in, and then sent back to the new page if successfully sign in. Google tells me that the link on "ask a boat request" returns a soft 404. I can't make this form in "POST" (which will solve the problem) because we need to automatically redirect user to the good page after sign in. (the Gem Devise memorize the "get" link) To simplify, the question is: how to protect a private page with authentication, reached with a simple "get" and not to be penalized by google with "soft 404". • Please help to clean up my RoR development environment

  I started RoR development a few months ago, and being new to Mac... Time flies and now I have a lot different ruby versions, rails versions and gems versions located everywhere......And currently I installed rvm and things got even worst, all things messed! And so I started want to clean all things and use rvm again! I want to uninstall all gems, all rails, and all ruby versions, except the system's default one (the very old one born with the mac). Or any other better solutions or suggestions!? • error when installing rubyzip in Unbuntu: requires >= 1.9.2

  I am using backtrack linux. Tried to upgrade BeEF project. Now it is missing some Ruby Gems and running bundle install gives the error: Gem::InstallError: rubyzip requires Ruby version >= 1.9.2 So I tried gem install rubyzip -v '1.0.0' and got the following: Error installing rubyzip: rubyzip requires Ruby version >= 1.9.2 but... the command ruby -v gives me: ruby 1.9.2dev (2010-07-02) Tried to update ruby to 1.9.3 so I'm not sure why rubyzip is giving that requirement and would be grateful for help. I edited the Gemfile and edited out the requirement for rubyzip and BeEF seems to work fine. I'd still like to know the answer. I checked which ruby version bundler was using and it is 1.9.2dev. I read other answers to similar issues and consensus is to use RVM but it doesn't answer the question of why I can't install rubyzip. Thanks a lot!

• Cannot install Fast debugger in Netbeans 6.8 for Ruby 1.9

  Hi, I am using Netbeans 6.8 version and Ruby 1.9.1 installed on Windows XP. I tried to install the fast debugger and I am getting the following error. Building native extensions. • When -exactly- does the Rails3 application get initialized?

  I've been fighting left and right with rails 3 and bundler. There are a few gems out there that don't work properly if the rails application hasn't been loaded yet. factory_girl and shoulda are both examples, even on the rails3 branch. Taking shoulda as an example, when trying to run rake test:units I get the following error: DEPRECATION WARNING: RAILS_ROOT is deprecated! Use Rails.root instead. Obviously the rails app has yet to be initialized. With Rails3 using Bundler now, there's been some hubub over on the Bundler side about being able to specify an order in which the gems are required, but I'm not sure whether or not this would solve the problem at hand. Ultimately my questions is this: When exactly does the environment.rb file (which actually initializes the application) get pulled in? Is there any harm to bumping up when the app is initialized and have it happen before the Bundler.require line in config/application.rb? I've tried to hack bundler to specify the order myself, and have the rails gem pulled in first, but it doesn't appear to me that requiring the rails gem actually initializes the application. As this line (in config/application.rb) is being called before the app is initialized, any gem in the bundler Gemfile that requires rails to be initialized is going to tank. # Auto-require default libraries and those for the current Rails environment. • Jruby Gems-in-a-jar issue

  Hi all, I am trying to write some code in ruby (using jruby) to be compiled to java bytecode with jrubyc and deployed to a remote machine where it will be run on the JVM (no ruby available there). Everything works fine as long as I am happy to stick with the standard jruby library. As explained on the jruby website, I simply copy the jruby-complete.jar library to the remote machine and include it in the classpath at runtime. I fire my compiled script and it works: cool! The problems start when I need some other libraries (typically rubygems) to run my script. I am aware of cool stuff like rawr, -which I successfully tested- to put together all you need in a single package. However that is not the solution I am looking for: I will have many small scripts to run independently and I don't want each of them to grow to at least 10 MB just because I insanely include the jruby-complete.jar in each of them. What I would like is to compile a .jar for each of the libraries that I will need to use, put all of them in a common folder on the remote machine and include them at runtime in the classpath when I run my compiled jruby scripts on the JVM. This said, I tried to follow the instructions here: http://blog.nicksieger.com/articles/2009/01/10/jruby-1-1-6-gems-in-a-jar I tried exactly the example shown there, with the "chronic" gem. Going step by step: Install the gem locally: java -jar jruby-complete-1.1.6.jar -S gem install -i ./chronic chronic --no-rdoc --no-ri Package it into a jar: jar cf chronic.jar -C chronic . • _mask and Rails

  So I am trying to get the cancan gem to work with my rails 3 app and I've hit a problem. I tried to copy the code that Ryan Bates (the creator of the gem) used in his screen cast, but I get an error saying that roles_mask is not a method. I figure that the _mask method was removed from Ruby/Rails at some point, and I'm now wondering what is the replacement. Please install the mysql adapter: 'gem install activerecord-mysql-adapter' <can't activate mysql <~> 2.8.1>, already activated mysql-2.9.0-x86-mingw32. Make sur all dependancies are added to Gemfile.>** Have installed mysql gem and copied libmysql.dll file to Ruby193/bin (Phpmyadmin and xampp also works good). Please help me to solve this issue.

• Connect rails application to SQL Server 2005 from Windows

  Hi guys. I (sadly) have to deploy a rails application on Windows XP which has to connect to Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Surfing in the web there are a lot of hits for connect from Linux to SQL Server, but cannot find out how to do it from Windows. Basically I followed these steps: Install dbi gem Install activerecord-sql-server-adapter gem My database.yml now looks like this: development: adapter: sqlserver mode: odbc dsn: test_dj host: HOSTNAME\SQLEXPRESS database: test_dj username: guest password: guest But I'm unable to connect it. When I run rake db:migrate I get IM002 (0) [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified I'm not a Windows user, so cannot understand really well the meaning of dsn element or so. Does someone have an idea how to solve this?   I'm attempting to get Rails to play nice with the Digg API's OAuth. I'm using the oauth gem (ruby one, not the rails one). However, Digg spits a "400 Bad Request" error back at me when @consumer.get_request_token is called. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas?

• hpricot throws exception when trying to parse url which has noscript tag

  I use hpricot gem in ruby on rails to parse a webpage and extract the meta-tag contents. But if the website has a <noscrpit> tag just after the <head> tag it throws an exception Exception: undefined method `[]' for nil:NilClass I even tried to update the gem to the latest version. but still the same. this is the sample code i use. require 'rubygems' require 'hpricot' require 'open-uri' begin index_page = Hpricot(open("http://sample.com")) puts index_page.at("/html/head/meta[@name='verification']")['content'].gsub(/\s/, "") rescue Exception => e puts "Exception: #{e}" end i was thinking to remove the noscript tag before giving the webpage to hpricot. or is there anyother way to do it??

• Twitter Oauth Strategy with Warden + Devise Authentication Gems for Ruby

  Devise, the authentication gem for Ruby based on Warden (another auth gem) does not support Twitter Oauth as an authentication strategy, BUT Warden does. There is a way to use the Warden Twitter Oauth strategy within Devise, but I cannot figure it out. I'm using the following block in the devise config file: config.warden do |manager| manager.oauth(:twitter) do |twitter| twitter.consumer_secret = <SECRET> twitter.consumer_key = <KEY> twitter.options :site => 'http://twitter.com' end manager.default_strategies.unshift :twitter_oauth end But I keep on getting all sorts of error messages. Does anyone know how to make this work? I'm assuming there is more to do here (configuring a new link/route to talk to Warden, maybe adding attributes to the Devise User model, etc.), but I can't figure out what they are. Please help.

As this is a production server, I want to minimize the amount of environment changes I make on the server. If I install a fresh version of RubyGems from source, how do I set this new installed version of RubyGems as the default version of RubyGems to use?

• Rails: simple bundler question with ruby-openid

  Hi! I just installed the ruby-openid gem and then bundled it by entering gem 'ruby-openid', :require => 'openid' in the gemfile. Then I started bundle install and bundle lock. Everything worked fine so far. But how can I now access the classes of ruby-openid. OpenID::method won't work for me. It raises a not found error. What have I forgot or done wrong? I'm absolutely new to bundler and the internet full of solutions for various versions, but I need one solution that's surely working. I'm thankful for any help!
