  I would like to create a script that emails me when a scheduled daily backup runs. I'd prefer the email to indicate success or failure. I understand that this is not an easy thing to do with Windows Server 2008. Is it possible? If so, how? Thanks

• Move database from SQL Server 2012 to 2008

  I have a database on a SQL Sever 2012 instance which I would like to copy to a 2008 server. The 2008 server cannot restore backups created by a 2012 server (I have tried). I cannot find any options in 2012 to create a 2008 compatible backup. Am I missing something? Is there an easy way to export the schema and data to a version-agnostic format which I can then import into 2008? The database does not use any 2012 specific features. It contains tables, data and stored procedures. Here is what I have tried so far: I tried "tasks" - "generate scripts" on the 2012 server, and I was able to generate the schema (including stored procedures) as a sql script. This didn't include any of the data, though. After creating that schema on my 2008 machine, I was able to open the "Export Data" wizard on the 2012 machine, and after configuring the 2012 as source machine and the 2008 as target machine, I was presented with a list of tables which I could copy. I selected all my tables (300+), and clicked through the wizard. Unfortunately it spends ages generating its scripts, then fails with errors like "Failure inserting into the read-only column 'FOO_ID'". I also tried the "Copy Database Wizard", which claimed to be able to copy "from 2000 or later to 2005 or later". It has two modes: 1) "detach and attach", which failed with error: Message: Index was outside the bounds of the array. StackTrace: at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.PropertyBag.SetValue(Int32 index, Object value) ... at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.DataFile.get_FileName() 2) SQL Management Object Method which failed with error "Cannot read property IsFileStream.This property is not available on SQL Server 7.0."

• Why is port 444 open on this router?

  I have a Cisco RV110W. I ran nmap at it from the outside and nmap reports that the router has tcp port 444 open. Yet there are no port forwarding rules specifying this port. It should as far as I can tell, be closed. There's even a service listening to that port which I can connect to through telnet. I threw some SNPP commands at it but the service doesn't respond to any of them so I don't believe it's SNPP. Does anyone have any idea why this particular router has tcp port 444 open? I haven't been able to find anything in the manual or on Cisco's website.

• ssh port forwarding freezes after 10 simultaneous connections

  Hello. I am using port forwarding to utilize proxy server which is on remote machine. Remote machine hostname is remotemachine. Proxy is listening on 8118 port. I am translating this port to local port 5223. ssh -vvv -N remotemachine -L 5223:localhost:8118 Everything is fine if I don't use more than 10 simultaneous connections, when ssh just freezes. It no longer send data trough port forwarding. I.e. ab -c 10 -t 5 -X 'localhost:5223' 'http://www.google.ru/' works, but ab -c 20 -t 5 -X 'localhost:5223' 'http://www.google.ru/' causes ssh to freeze MaxSessions 30 parameter in /etc/ssh/sshd_config didn't helped at all. What can I do to remove this 10 connection limit? Nothing interesting in -vvv output =(

• Hosting 3 domains on 3 PC (1 domain per PC) with only 1 static IP address

  Hey all i am trying to figure this out here. I have 3 PC's that are hooked into my router which i have a static IP for. I am currently hosting a web site (ex: blah1.com) on the 1st PC but have yet to connect PC 2 and 3 up to the network. That one PC thats online is using port 77. I direct all 80 traffic to port 77 using that servers IP address (192.168.x.xxx) My question is, how can i direct traffic for my other 2 domains (ex: blah2.com and blah3.com) to the 2 individual PC's (ip's) as i already am doing with the 1st PC if i can only use one port 80 to direct taffic to the website in?

• Redirect port / port 10000 to https apache

  I have been reading around and trying different configurations to get a request to my server on port 10000 to redirect a http to a https request. For some reason I can't figure out how to make it happen when i use port 10000 although i can set a rewrite rule for port 80 (implicit) to do it: All I want is a request as follows: http://127.0.0.1:10000 to redirect me to https://127.0.0.1:10000 but it needs to be written so that it also works when accessed via my domain name externally. My current, vhost, the last of many different attempts is currently set as follows, but it doesn't seem to work at all: <VirtualHost *:10000> RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off RewriteRule (.*) https://%{HTTP_POST}%{REQUEST_URI} ErrorLog "/var/log/httpd/webmin-redirect_error_log.log" CustomLog "/var/log/httpd/webmin-redirect_access_log.log" common </VirtualHost> I'v also tried a few other things but nothing seems to work, any help would be appreciated. • How does Apache handle port forwarding?

  I setup a localhost portforwarding configuration in the coLinux .conf file, forwarding port 8090 to port 80 in the VM. When http://localhost:8090 is entered in the browser, I get the correct response from nginx, but with Apache the response get the error /htdocs not found in the log. However if I do a local port forwarding from 8090 to port 80 via SSH Apache responds fine. Is there something about the way Apache handles the port redirection that causes it to fail? PS, For those unfamiliar with coLinux it allows localhost connections to get to the VM by forwarding localhost ports on the Windows host to ports on the VM, as the 10.x.x.x IP it not accessible from the Windows host.

  This is on linux, connecting to linux servers: I love mosh, but it doesn't support port forwarding, and likely won't for a while since it's been almost a year now and it hasn't happened yet. port forwarding over ssh is great, but because my laptop moves between networks several times a day, my ssh sessions die, and so do the port forwards. I could script/hack something to detect hung ssh and reconnect to get my port forwards back, but before I do this, is there another way to do long lasting port forwards when your source IP changes several times daily (because you go on different networks)? I'm thinking an ssh over UDP would do the trick but of course ssh is over TCP.

  I'm running a local dns server on port 5300 to develop a software. I need my machine to use that dns but I wasn't able to tell /etc/resolv.conf to check on a different port. I searched a bit on google and I didn't find a solution. I set 127.0.0.1 as nameserver on /etc/resolv.conf. Could you please tell me how can I redirect outbound traffic on port 53 to another port? • Record and Play your WebLogic Console Tasks Like a DVR

  Automation using WebLogic Scripting Tool Today on the Oracle internal mailing list for WebLogic Server questions someone asked how to automate the configuration of the thread model for WebLogic Server and they were having trouble with the jython scripting syntax.  I’ve previously written about this feature called Work Managers and the associated constraints.  However, I did not show how to automate the process of configuring this without the console using WebLogic Scripting Tool – the jython scripting automation environment abbreviated as WLST.  I’ve written some very basic introductions to WLST before and there is also an Oracle By Example on the subject, but this is a bit more advanced.  Fear not because there is a really easy-to-use feature of the WLS console that lets you “Record” user actions just like a DVR.  Using these recordings of the web-based console, you can easily create a script even if you are unfamiliar with the WLST syntax and API.  I’m a big fan of both DVR’s and automation as can be evidenced with this old Halloween picture taken during simpler times.  Obviously the Cast Away and The Big Labowski references show some age.  I was a big Tivo fan-boy back in the day and I still think it’s the best DVR. I strongly believe that WebLogic Scripting Tool (WLST) is an absolutely essential tool for automating administration tasks in anything beyond a development environment.  Even in development environments you can make a case that it makes sense to start the automation for environments downstream.  I promise you that once you start using it for any tasks that you do even semi-regularly, you won’t go back to clicking through the console.  It’s simply so much more efficient and less error-prone to run a script. Let’s say you need to create a Work Manager and MaxThreadsConstraint – the easy way to do it is configure it in the WLS console first while capturing the commands with a recording.  See the images for the simple steps – click to enlarge.   Have you ever faced situation when you see something working and you feel it should not be working? Well, I had similar moments few days ago. I know that SQL Server 2008 supports online indexing. However, I also know that I cannot rebuild index ONLINE if I have used VARCHAR(MAX), NVARCHAR(MAX) or few other data types. While I held my belief very strongly I came across situation, where I had to go online and do little bit reading from Book Online. Here is the similar example. First of all – run following code in SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2. USE TempDB GO CREATE TABLE TestTable (ID INT, FirstCol NVARCHAR(10), SecondCol NVARCHAR(MAX)) GO CREATE CLUSTERED INDEX [IX_TestTable] ON TestTable (ID) GO CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX [IX_TestTable_Cols] ON TestTable (FirstCol) INCLUDE (SecondCol) GO USE [tempdb] GO ALTER INDEX [IX_TestTable_Cols] ON [dbo].[TestTable] REBUILD WITH (ONLINE = ON) GO DROP TABLE TestTable GO Now run the same code in SQL Server 2012 version. Observe the difference between both of the execution. You will be get following resultset. In SQL Server 2008/R2 it will throw following error: Msg 2725, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 An online operation cannot be performed for index ‘IX_TestTable_Cols’ because the index contains column ‘SecondCol’ of data type text, ntext, image, varchar(max), nvarchar(max), varbinary(max), xml, or large CLR type. For a non-clustered index, the column could be an include column of the index. For a clustered index, the column could be any column of the table. If DROP_EXISTING is used, the column could be part of a new or old index. The operation must be performed offline. In SQL Server 2012 it will run successfully and will not throw any error. Command(s) completed successfully. I always thought it will throw an error if there is VARCHAR(MAX) or NVARCHAR(MAX) used in table schema definition. When I saw this result it was clear to me that it will be for sure not bug enhancement in SQL Server 2012. For matter for the fact, I always wanted this feature to be added in SQL Server Engine as this will enable ONLINE Index Rebuilding for mission critical tables which needs to be always online. • Advice needed: warm backup solution for SQL Server 2008 Express?

  What are my options for achieving a warm backup server for a SQL Server Express instance running a single database? Sitting beside my production SQL Server 2008 Express box I have a second physical box currently doing nothing. I want to use this second box as a warm backup server by somehow replicating my production database in near real time (a little bit of data loss is acceptable). The database is very small and resources are utilized very lightly. In the case that the production server dies, I would manually reconfigure my application to point to the backup server instead. Although Express doesn't support log shipping natively, I am thinking that I could manually script a poor man's version of it, where I use batch files to take the logs and copy them across the network and apply them to the second server at 5 minute intervals. Does anyone have any advice on whether this is technically achievable, or if there is a better way to do what I am trying to do? Note that I want to avoid having to pay for the full version of SQL Server and configure mirroring as I think it is an overkill for this application. I understand that other DB platforms may present suitable options (eg. a MySQL Cluster), but for the purposes of this discussion, let's assume we have to stick to SQL Server.

• Open port in gufw is closed, no incoming connection on deluge

  I have a problem configuring gufw. I open ports on it, but when i test in deluge it shows as closed. Any help on setting up the firewall would be greatly appreciated. Is this supposed to do this when the firewall is deactivated? Update again: All my ports are closed now, flushing the iptable does not work anymore. I have uninstalled gufw, but still all my ports are closed. And to say it again, this has nothing to do with my broadband modem since it worked when I used windows 7. I need help to open the ports.
