• Rails after_create callback can't access model's attributes

[DOG CREATED] color: gender:male user ... Some of my attributes show up and others don't! oh no! Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I've always been able to user after_create in such ways in the past. Note: The actual variable names and values I used were different, but the methods and code are the same.

  Hi there, I want to do a model class which associates to itself on Rails. Basically, a user has friends, which are also users. I typed the following inside a User model class: has_many :friends, :class_name => "User", :foreign_key => :user_id, :finder_sql => %{SELECT users.* FROM users INNER JOIN friends ON (users.id = friends.user_id OR users.id = friends.friend_id) WHERE users.id <> #{id}} But the funny fact is that it seems that this finder_sql is called twice whenever I type User.first.friends on irb. Why?

• Sql server indexed view

  OK, I'm confused about sql server indexed views(using 2008) I've got an indexed view called AssignmentDetail when I look at the execution plan for select * from AssignmentDetail it shows the execution plan of all the underlying indexes of all the other tables that the indexed view is supposed to abstract away. I would think that the execution plan woul simply be an clustered index scan of PK_AssignmentDetail(the name of the clustered index for my view) but it doesn't. There seems to be no performance gain with this indexed view what am I supposed to do? Should I also create a non-clustered index with all of the columns so that it doesn't have to hit all the other indexes? Any insight would be greatly appreciated

• WPF Composite - Expose EF model to all modules

  Hi All, I have an application that uses WPF Composite, and I have an issue. I've got a big database that is attached to the application and I need it exposed to different modules as part of the application. What is the best way to expose my Entity Framework model to all my different modules and views inside them? Do I have one EF model or a separate one for each module and then only the tables that each module needs. The only problem being that some tables have a relationship and will have different views and those views will be in different modules. Any ideas how to resolve this?

• What is the difference between MVC model 1 and model 2?

  I've recently discovered that MVC is supposed to have two different flavors, model one and model two. I'm supposed to give a presentation on MVC1 and I was instructed that "it's not the web based version, that is refered to as MVC2". As the presentations are about design patterns in general, I doubt that this separation is related to Java (I found some info on Sun's site, but it seemed far off) or ASP. I have a pretty good understanding of what MVC is and I've used several (web) frameworks that enforce it, but this terminology is new to me. How is the web-based version different from other MVC (I'm guessing GUI) implementations? Does it have something to do with the stateless nature of HTTP? Thanks, Alex

• Rails Model multiple column uniqueness

  I am making a Viewer model with belongs_to :users belongs_to :orders that joins the models Users and Orders with a :has_many :through => :viewers. And the Viewer model has the attributes of user_id and order_id. How would I set it up so that new viewers are only accepted if both user_id and order_id are unique in the same row? I remember in MySQL being able to do so with a flag (although I can't for the life of me remember what it was), but I'm not sure how to do it with Rails. Can I do something like (for Viewer.rb) validates_uniqueness_of :user_id, :scope => :order_id?

• MVC Entity Model not showing my table

  I have a database with multiple tables, and some basic relationships. Here is an example of the problem I am having: My Database: **Org** ID Name etc **Detail1** ID D1name **Org_Detail1** Org_ID Detail1_ID **Detail2** ID D2Name **Org_Detail2** Org_ID Detial1_ID BooleanField My problem is, the Org_detail1 table is not showing up in the entity model, but the Org_Details2 table does. I thought it may have been because the Org_Detail1 table only contains two ID fields that are both primary keys, while the Org_Details2 table contains 2 primary key ID fields as well as a boolean field. If I add a dummy field to Org_detail1 and update it, it still won't show up and wont allow me to add a new entity relating to the Org_Detail1 table. The table won't even show up in the list, but it is listed under the tables. Is there any solution to get this table to appear in my model?

• SQL Server indexed view matching of views with joins not working

  Does anyone have experience of when SQL Servr 2008 R2 is able to automatically match indexed view (also known as materialized views) that contain joins to a query? for example the view select dbo.Orders.Date, dbo.OrderDetails.ProductID from dbo.OrderDetails join dbo.Orders on dbo.OrderDetails.OrderID = dbo.Orders.ID cannot be automatically matched to the same exact query. When I select directly from this view ith (noexpand) I actually get a much faster query plan that does a scan on the clustered index of the indexed view. Can I get SQL Server to do this matching automatically? I have quite a few queries and views... I am on enterprise edition of SQL Server 2008 R2.

The relationship show up, but if call User.relationships.friends it should run the friends() method, but its failing. Any ideas how i would do this? Thanks

I have three model relationed in this way: Project(some_fields, item_id) ------belongsTo----- Item(some_fields, item_id) ------belongsTo----- User(some_fields campi, nickname) I need to do a find() and retrieve all fields from project, a field from Item and the nickname field from User. This is my code: $this->set('projects', $this->Project->find('all', array('recursive' => 2))); but my output doesn't contains the user object. • Add a background image to tables in a navigation view in a tabbed application

  Hi people, I have a tabbed application which then has a navigation controller. In each the navigation controller I an a table View Controller which obviously contains a table. I push a new table view controller from this one. I want to put a background to the table but can only add an image infront of the table. I think this may be because I am adding the sub view in the table view controller, but I don't seem to be able to add it anywhere else. Please could you help me, thanks.

• Manually changing keyboard orientation for a view that's on top of a camera view

  I'm basically trying to reproduce the core functionality of the "At Once" app. I have a camera view and another view with a text view on it. I add both views to the window. All is well so far. [window addSubview:imagePicker.view]; [window addSubview:textViewController.view]; I understand that the UIImagePickerController does not support autorotation, so I handle it manually by watching UIDeviceOrientationDidChangeNotifications and applying the necessary transforms to the textViewController.view. Now, the problem here is the keyboard. If I do nothing, it just stays in portrait mode. I can get it to rotate by adding the following code to the notification handler. [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarOrientation:interfaceOrientation]; [textView resignFirstResponder]; [textView becomeFirstResponder]; However, the following simple test produces weird behavior. Start the app in portrait mode. Rotate the device 90 degrees clockwise. Rotate the device 90 degrees counterclockwise (back to the initial position). Rotate the device 90 degrees clockwise. After step 4, instead of the landscape-mode keyboard, the portrait-style keyboard is shown, skewed to fit in the landscape keyboard frame. Perhaps my approach is wrong from the start. I was wondering if anyone has been able to reliably make the keyboard change its orientation in response to setStatusBarOrientation.

  Hi all... we have a view in our database which has an ORDER BY in it. Now, I realize views generally don't order, because different people may use it for different things, and want it differently ordered. This view however is used for a VERY SPECIFIC use-case which demands a certain order. (It is team standings for a soccer league.) The database is Sql Server 2008 Express, v.10.0.1763.0 on a Windows Server 2003 R2 box. The view is defined as such: CREATE VIEW season.CurrentStandingsOrdered AS SELECT TOP 100 PERCENT *, season.GetRanking(TEAMID) RANKING FROM season.CurrentStandings ORDER BY GENDER, TEAMYEAR, CODE, POINTS DESC, FORFEITS, GOALS_AGAINST, GOALS_FOR DESC, DIFFERENTIAL, RANKING It returns: GENDER, TEAMYEAR, CODE, TEAMID, CLUB, NAME, WINS, LOSSES, TIES, GOALS_FOR, GOALS_AGAINST, DIFFERENTIAL, POINTS, FORFEITS, RANKING Now, when I run a SELECT against the view, it orders the results by GENDER, TEAMYEAR, CODE, TEAMID. Notice that it is ordering by TEAMID instead of POINTS as the order by clause specifies. However, if I copy the SQL statement and run it exactly as is in a new query window, it orders correctly as specified by the ORDER BY clause.

I like the ability to define attributes for models within the model file (as opposed to in migrations): class Person include Mongoid::Document field :name, :type => String field :birthday, :type => Date end For projects that cannot use a schema-less database, does a similar feature exist?   Hi, using ASP.NET MVC 2 I have a navigation menu inside my Master Page. In the navigation menu, I am trying add a class to the that the current page relates to (i.e., home page will add class="active" to the Home button). I'm trying to consider scalability and the fact that I don't want to change individual pages if the navigation changes later. The only way I can think of doing this is: Add JavaScript to each individual View that will add the class when the DOM is ready Return JavaScript when return View() occurs on point (2), I am unsure how to do. Thusfar I have been doing the following in my controller: public ActionResult Index() { ViewData["messege"] = JavaScript("<script type='text/javascript' language='javascript'> $(document).ready(function () { console.log('hi hi hi'); }); </script>"); return View(); } but in my view, when I call: <%: ViewData["messege"] %> I get: System.Web.Mvc.JavaScriptResult as the result Would you guys have any ideas on How to solve the navigation menu probelem, other than the solutions I've listed return JavaScript along with your view from the Controller Thanks, in advanced!

• Can't call method in model table class using Doctrine with Zend Framework

  I'm using Doctrine with Zend Framework. For my model, I'm using a base class, the regular class (which extends the base class), and a table class. In my table class, I've created a method which does a query for records with a specific value for one of the fields in my model. When I try and call this method from my controller, I get an error message saying, "Message: Unknown method Doctrine_Table::getCreditPurchases". Is there something else I need to do to call functions in my table class? • Getting the value from an array in the model in rails

  Hi all, I have a relatively simple problem. I have a model named Item which I've added a status field. The status field will only have two options (Lost or Found). So I created the following array in my Item model: STATUS = [ [1, "Lost"], [2, "Found"]] In my form view I added the following code which works great: <%= collection_select :item, :status, Item::STATUS, :first, :last, {:include_blank => 'Select status'} %> This stores the numeric id (1 or 2) of the status in the database. However, in my show view I can't figure out how to convert from the numeric id (again, 1 or 2) to the text equivalent of Lost or Found. Any ideas on how to get this to work? • Rails Model has_many with multiple foreign_keys

  Relatively new to rails and trying to model a very simple family "tree" with a single Person model that has a name, gender, father_id and mother_id (2 parents). Below is basically what I want to do, but obviously I can't repeat the :children in a has_many (the first gets overwritten). class Person < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :father, :class_name => 'Person' belongs_to :mother, :class_name => 'Person' has_many :children, :class_name => 'Person', :foreign_key => 'mother_id' has_many :children, :class_name => 'Person', :foreign_key => 'father_id' end Is there a simple way to use has_many with 2 foreign keys, or maybe change the foreign key based on the object's gender? Or is there another/better way altogether? Thanks!
