  • Using Perfmon with MySQL Connector/NET

    - by Mark Richman
I am trying to diagnose repeated lock wait timeouts from my ASP.NET app to MySQL 5.1. I'm using MySQL Connector/NET 6.2.3. I don't see anything MySQL-related in Perfmon's Performance Object dropdown list. What else can I do to try to diagnose these issues?

  • mysql does not start or work

    - by Artem Moskalev
Recently I installed LAMP with tasksel. Then I remember I issued some commands to get into the mysql console - it worked. Right now I checked - apache and php modules work perfectly. But as for mysql - whatever commands I issue - it does not start the console. It writes: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' How can I fix it and start mysql? Why did this happen? Where is it installed (I used the default location for the installation), because I dont understand what is started when I issue the commands?

  • How to make mysql accept connections externally

    - by Tam
I have a VPS and I want to make mysql DB accept connection externally (from my PC for instance). I have Debian Linux installed on the server. I checked some tutorials online and they said to comment out: bind-address = 127.0.0.1 But this didn't seem to help! is there anything specific for VPSs? or Am I missing something else? The command that runs mysql is: /usr/sbin/mysqld --basedir=/usr --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --user=mysql --pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid --skip-external-locking --port=3306 --socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock

  • How should I evaluate new browser languages?

    - by Andrea
In these days there are many projects whose aim is to bring new languages to the browser by compiling them to JavaScript. Among the others one can mention ClojureScript, CoffeScript, Dart, haXe, Emscripten, Amber Smalltalk. I'd like to try a few of these out, but I am not sure what I should be looking for when evaluating these languages to see if they are suitable for production. How should I evaluate a new browser language, and what are the pitfalls I should be looking for?

  • so, my Cassandra consultant left me and now I'm thinking about reverting to mysql

    - by sathia
I run a middle size community and some time ago I started to develop social capabilities such as follow, status update, wall etc. For some reason i thought that Cassandra was the right tool for the job so I looked online for a Cassandra developer and I found a very talented one. Unluckily in the midst of the development the dev left (too much jobs) and so I'm here with a very nice class, a very nice demo, but a lot of fears that I won't be able to handle basic things such as compaction, scaling etc. My biggest fear is to go online with all this coolness and then having a site inaccessible for hours or days. The mysql consultant (very talented too) keeps saying me that I should stick with Mysql which I know rather well and in case something's wrong we can manage. In that case I should take the class made for cassandra and abstract it for Mysql. My question is this: Should I find another dev/consultant and stick with Cassandra because for social things it is definitely the best tool for the job, or should I listen to the Mysql consultant and revert to Mysql? About 15k login each day Average 20 actions per user Avg 6 followers x user (These are current statistics, but of course I'd like to increase them as much as possible.)

  • MySQL query optimization - distinct, order by and limit

    - by Manuel Darveau
    I am trying to optimize the following query: select distinct this_.id as y0_ from Rental this_ left outer join RentalRequest rentalrequ1_ on this_.id=rentalrequ1_.rental_id left outer join RentalSegment rentalsegm2_ on rentalrequ1_.id=rentalsegm2_.rentalRequest_id where this_.DTYPE='B' and this_.id<=1848978 and this_.billingStatus=1 and rentalsegm2_.endDate between 1273631699529 and 1274927699529 order by rentalsegm2_.id asc limit 0, 100; This query is done multiple time in a row for paginated processing of records (with a different limit each time). It returns the ids I need in the processing. My problem is that this query take more than 3 seconds. I have about 2 million rows in each of the three tables. Explain gives: +----+-------------+--------------+--------+-----------------------------------------------------+---------------+---------+--------------------------------------------+--------+----------------------------------------------+ | id | select_type | table | type | possible_keys | key | key_len | ref | rows | Extra | +----+-------------+--------------+--------+-----------------------------------------------------+---------------+---------+--------------------------------------------+--------+----------------------------------------------+ | 1 | SIMPLE | rentalsegm2_ | range | index_endDate,fk_rentalRequest_id_BikeRentalSegment | index_endDate | 9 | NULL | 449904 | Using where; Using temporary; Using filesort | | 1 | SIMPLE | rentalrequ1_ | eq_ref | PRIMARY,fk_rental_id_BikeRentalRequest | PRIMARY | 8 | solscsm_main.rentalsegm2_.rentalRequest_id | 1 | Using where | | 1 | SIMPLE | this_ | eq_ref | PRIMARY,index_billingStatus | PRIMARY | 8 | solscsm_main.rentalrequ1_.rental_id | 1 | Using where | +----+-------------+--------------+--------+-----------------------------------------------------+---------------+---------+--------------------------------------------+--------+----------------------------------------------+ I tried to remove the distinct and the query ran three times faster. explain without the query gives: +----+-------------+--------------+--------+-----------------------------------------------------+---------------+---------+--------------------------------------------+--------+-----------------------------+ | id | select_type | table | type | possible_keys | key | key_len | ref | rows | Extra | +----+-------------+--------------+--------+-----------------------------------------------------+---------------+---------+--------------------------------------------+--------+-----------------------------+ | 1 | SIMPLE | rentalsegm2_ | range | index_endDate,fk_rentalRequest_id_BikeRentalSegment | index_endDate | 9 | NULL | 451972 | Using where; Using filesort | | 1 | SIMPLE | rentalrequ1_ | eq_ref | PRIMARY,fk_rental_id_BikeRentalRequest | PRIMARY | 8 | solscsm_main.rentalsegm2_.rentalRequest_id | 1 | Using where | | 1 | SIMPLE | this_ | eq_ref | PRIMARY,index_billingStatus | PRIMARY | 8 | solscsm_main.rentalrequ1_.rental_id | 1 | Using where | +----+-------------+--------------+--------+-----------------------------------------------------+---------------+---------+--------------------------------------------+--------+-----------------------------+ As you can see, the Using temporary is added when using distinct. I already have an index on all fields used in the where clause. Is there anything I can do to optimize this query? Thank you very much!

  • PHP: MySQL query duplicating update for no reason

    - by ThinkingInBits
    The code below is first the client code, then the class file. For some reason the 'deductTokens()' method is calling twice, thus charging an account double. I've been programming all night, so I may just need a second pair of eyes: if ($action == 'place_order') { if ($_REQUEST['unlimited'] == 200) { $license = 'extended'; } else { $license = 'standard'; } if ($photograph->isValidPhotographSize($photograph_id, $_REQUEST['size_radio'])) { $token_cost = $photograph->getTokenCost($_REQUEST['size_radio'], $_REQUEST['unlimited']); $order = new ImageOrder($_SESSION['user']['id'], $_REQUEST['size_radio'], $license, $token_cost); $order->saveOrder(); $order->deductTokens(); header('location: account.php'); } else { die("Please go back and select a valid photograph size"); } } ######CLASS CODE####### <?php include_once('database_classes.php'); class Order { protected $account_id; protected $cost; protected $license; public function __construct($account_id, $license, $cost) { $this->account_id = $account_id; $this->cost = $cost; $this->license = $license; } } class ImageOrder extends Order { protected $size; public function __construct($account_id, $size, $license, $cost) { $this->size = $size; parent::__construct($account_id, $license, $cost); } public function saveOrder() { //$db = Connect::connect(); //$account_id = $db->real_escape_string($this->account_id); //$size = $db->real_escape_string($this->size); //$license = $db->real_escape_string($this->license); //$cost = $db->real_escape_string($this->cost); } public function deductTokens() { $db = Connect::connect(); $account_id = $db->real_escape_string($this->account_id); $cost = $db->real_escape_string($this->cost); $query = "UPDATE accounts set tokens=tokens-$cost WHERE id=$account_id"; $result = $db->query($query); } } ?> When I die("$query"); directly after the query, it's printing the proper statement, and when I run that query within MySQL it works perfectly.

  • Better way to search for text in two columns

    - by David
Here is the scenario. I am making a custom blogging software for my site. I am implementing a search feature. It's not very sophisticated - basically it just takes the search phrase entered and runs this query: $query="SELECT * FROM `blog` WHERE `title` LIKE '%$q%' OR `post` LIKE '%$q%'"; Which is meant to simply search the title and post body for the phrase entered. Is there a better way to do that, keeping in mind how long it would take to run the query on up to 100 rows, each with a post length of up to 1500 characters? I have considered using a LIMIT statement to (sometimes) restrict the number of rows that the query would examine. Good idea?

  • Is sqlite3 faster than MySQL on shared hosting?

    - by Osvaldo
Can sqlite3 be faster than MySQL on shared hosting and small to average websites (less than 500 visitors a day). I have an account in a popular shared hosting provider and I've noticed that it has become quite slow redering pages. My doubt is that this may happen because the MySQL server is overloaded. Some CMS'es work fine with SQLlite too, so I was wandering if I should use SQLite for the new sites instead of MySQL.

  • Run multiple MySQL queries based on a series of ifs

    - by OldWest
I am just getting started on this complex query I need to write and was hoping for any suggestions or feedback regarding table structure and the actual query itself.. I've already created my tables and populated test data, and now just trying to sort out how and what is possible within MySQL. Here is an outline of the problem: End result: Listing of rates based on specific queried criteria (see below): Age: [ 27 ] Spouse Age: [ 25 ] Num of Children: [ 3 ] Zip Code: [ 97128 ] The problem I am running into is each company that provides rates has a unique way of dealing with the rate. And I am looking for the best approach for multiple queries based on the company (one query with results for each company more or less all combined into one result set). Here are some facts: - Each company deals with zip code ranges which assist in the query result. - Each company has a different method of calculating the rate based on the Applicant, Spouse, Num of Children: Example, a) Company A determines rate by: Applicant + Spouse + Child(ren) = rate (age is pertinent to the applicant within a range). b) Company B determines the rate by total number of applicants like: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6+ = rate (and age is ignored). First off, what would I call this type of query? Multiple nested query? And should I intertwine php within it to determine the If()s ... I apologize if this thread lacks sufficient data, so please tell me anything you would like to see.

  • How do I setup ASP.NET MVC 2 with MySQL?

    - by NovaJoe
Okay, so I'm cheating and not actually a question, but instead making a flat-out post. I know that goes against the grain of Stack Overflow, but this is too valuable not to share. I'm assuming that you have Visual Studio Professional 2008 and access to an instance of MySQL server. This MAY work with VS2008 Web edition, but not at all sure. If you haven't, install MySQL Connector for .NET (6.2.2.0 at the time of this write-up) Optional: install MySQL GUI Tools If you haven't, install MVC 2 RTM, or better yet, use Microsoft's Web Platform Installer. Create an empty MySQL database. If you don't want to access your application with the MySQL root user account (insecure), create a user account and assign the appropriate privileges (outside the scope of this write-up). Create a new MVC 2 application in Visual Studio In the MVC 2 app, reference MySql.Web.dll. It will either be in your GAC, or in the folder that the MySQL Connector installer put it. Modify the connection strings portion of your web.config: <connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalMySqlServer"/> <add name="MySqlMembershipConnection" connectionString="Data Source=[MySql server host name];user id=[user];password=[password];database=[database name];" providerName="MySql.Data.MySqlClient"/> </connectionStrings> Modify the membership portion of your web.config: <membership defaultProvider="MySqlMembershipProvider"> <providers> <clear/> <add name="MySqlMembershipProvider" type="MySql.Web.Security.MySQLMembershipProvider, MySql.Web, Version=6.2.2.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c5687fc88969c44d" connectionStringName="MySqlMembershipConnection" enablePasswordRetrieval="false" enablePasswordReset="true" requiresQuestionAndAnswer="false" requiresUniqueEmail="true" passwordFormat="Hashed" maxInvalidPasswordAttempts="5" minRequiredPasswordLength="6" minRequiredNonalphanumericCharacters="0" passwordAttemptWindow="10" applicationName="/" autogenerateschema="true"/> </providers> </membership> Modify the role manager portion of your web.config: <roleManager enabled="true" defaultProvider="MySqlRoleProvider"> <providers> <clear /> <add connectionStringName="MySqlMembershipConnection" applicationName="/" name="MySqlRoleProvider" type="MySql.Web.Security.MySQLRoleProvider, MySql.Web, Version=6.2.2.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c5687fc88969c44d" autogenerateschema="true"/> </providers> </roleManager> Modify the profile portion of your web.config: <profile> <providers> <clear/> <add type="MySql.Web.Security.MySQLProfileProvider, MySql.Web, Version=6.2.2.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c5687fc88969c44d" name="MySqlProfileProvider" applicationName="/" connectionStringName="MySqlMembershipConnection" autogenerateschema="true"/> </providers> </profile> At this point, you ought to be able to run the app and have the default ASP.NET MVC 2 home page come up in your browser. However, it may be a better idea to first run the ASP.NET Web configuration Tool (in Visual Studio top menus: Project - ASP.NET Configuration). Once the tool launches, check out each of the tabs; no errors = all good. The configuration tool Nathan Bridgewater's blog was essential to getting this working. Kudos, Nathan. Look for the "Configuration Tool" heading half way down the page. The public key token on the MySql.web.dll that I've posted here ought not change any time soon. But in case you suspect a bad token string from copying and pasting or whatever, just use the Visual Studio command line to run: "sn -T [Path\to\your.dll]" in order to get the correct public key token. There you have it, ASP.NET MVC 2 running over MySQL. Cheers!

  • MySQL-5.5.10 - Lost connection to MySQL server during query (Both Web Clients and MySQL Slaves)

    - by kwiksand
We've just upgraded our existing MySQL5.1 DB servers to newer (much better) hardware with MySQL 5.5, and things have been going mostly smoothly for almost 6 weeks. Just the last few days, I've noticed a few errors, such as: From a MySQL Slave: [ERROR] Error reading packet from server: Lost connection to MySQL server during query ( server_errno=2013) Or From Apache/Other: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 110 At one point this evening, many webnodes reported this error for a three minute period (many such reports as this was in a busy period). However, the issues don't appear to correspond with any times of extreme load. For all intents and purposes, the connection/thread load on MySQL is at a normal rate (between about 10 and 40 connected threads), and Web load has been a LOT higher at times over the last few weeks. Could there bee other reasons for these connection errors, that I'm not seeing?

  • SQL SERVER – Migration Assistant Upgraded to Support SQL Server 2014

    - by Pinal Dave
We all start somewhere when it is about database. There are different reasons, why we go for one database over another database. Usually the reason is cost and convenience. After a period of time when business is successful and traffic is growing, the same two reasons of cost and convenience start to become secondary goals. I have seen quite a lot of companies starting with free databases and after a while switching to another database as they want stability and service from the product company. Microsoft has an excellent product which lets you migrate your database from the alternate database to SQL Server. It is called SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) and earlier this week, it has been upgraded to support SQL Server 2014. Now you can migrate from your database to to all editions of SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2012 and SQL Server 2014. SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) is a free supported tool from Microsoft. My ndb_mgmd.cnf file looked: [NDBD DEFAULT] NoOfReplicas=2 DataDir= /var/lib/mysql-cluster # Management Node [NDB_MGMD] NodeId=1 HostName=192.168.204.20 DataDir=/var/lib/mysql-cluster # Storage Nodes (one for each node) [NDBD] NodeId=2 HostName=192.168.204.25 DataDir=/var/lib/mysql-cluster [NDBD] NodeId=3 HostName=192.168.204.26 DataDir=/var/lib/mysql-cluster # SQL Nodes (one for each node) [MYSQLD] NodeId=4 HostName=192.168.204.30 Now I want to edit this configuration, so I changed this file: [NDBD DEFAULT] NoOfReplicas=2 DataDir= /var/lib/mysql-cluster # Management Node [NDB_MGMD] NodeId=1 HostName=192.168.204.20 DataDir=/var/lib/mysql-cluster # Storage Nodes (one for each node) [NDBD] NodeId=2 HostName=192.168.204.25 DataDir=/var/lib/mysql-cluster [NDBD] NodeId=3 HostName=192.168.204.26 DataDir=/var/lib/mysql-cluster # SQL Nodes (one for each node) [MYSQLD] NodeId=4 HostName=192.168.204.25 [MYSQLD] NodeId=5 HostName=192.168.204.26 But ndb_mgm > show; still shows: Connected to Management Server at: localhost:1186 Cluster Configuration --------------------- [ndbd(NDB)] 2 node(s) id=2 (not connected, accepting connect from 192.168.204.25) id=3 (not connected, accepting connect from 192.168.204.26) [ndb_mgmd(MGM)] 1 node(s) id=1 @192.168.204.20 (mysql-5.1.51 ndb-7.1.9) [mysqld(API)] 1 node(s) id=4 (not connected, accepting connect from 192.168.204.30) I tried: sudo /etc/init.d/mysql-ndb-mgm restart sudo ndb_mgmd --initial sudo ndb_mgmd -f /etc/mysql/ndb_mgmd.cnf And nothing works. Any help?

  • MySQL extension of PHP not working

    - by Víctor
In a Debian server, and after intallation and removal of SquirrelMail (with some downgrade and upgrade of php5, mysql...) the MySQL extension of PHP has stopped working. I have php5-mysql installed, and when I try to connect to a database through php-cli, i connect successfully, but when I try to connect from a web served by Apache I cannot connect. This script, run by php5-cli: echo phpinfo(); $link = mysql_connect('localhost', 'user, 'password'); if (!$link) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } echo 'Connected successfully'; mysql_close($link); Prints the phpinfo, which includes "/etc/php5/cli/conf.d/mysql.ini", and also the MySQL section with all the configuration: SOCKET, LIBS... And then it prints "Connectes successfully". But when run by apache accessed by web browser, it displays the phpinfo, which includes "/etc/php5/apache2/conf.d/mysql.ini", but has the MySQL section missing, and the script dies printing "Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect()". Note that both "/etc/php5/cli/conf.d/mysql.ini" and "/etc/php5/apache2/conf.d/mysql.ini" are in fact the same configuration, because I have in debian the structure: /etc/php5/apache2 /etc/php5/cgi /etc/php5/cli /etc/php5/conf.d And both point at the same directory: /etc/php5/apache2/conf.d -> ../conf.d /etc/php5/cli -> ../conf.d Where /etc/php5/conf.d/mysql.ini consists of one line: extension=mysql.so So my question is: why is the MySQL extension for PHP not working if I have the configuration included just in the same way as in php-cli, which is working? Thanks a lot!

  • heavy load on mysql

    - by payal
i have dedicated server with very good configuation like 16 gb ram etc but i am facing heavy load from mysql i am running a music wesbite however only one database is running and 5-10 pages are only running.when i click on whm show processlist it shows only 2-3 processes However whm load is always less than one but when i click on whm load it shows 20% of cpu usage by mysql and after some time it starts saying can not connect to mysql . mysql server has gone away 1691 (Trace) (Kill) mysql 0 19.2 2.7 /usr/sbin/mysqld --basedir=/ --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --user=mysql --log- error=/var/lib/mysql/server.xyz.com.err --pid-file=/var/lib/mysql/server.xyz.com.pid i have tested static pages they are coming blezing fast but all dynamic pages which are using mysql is coming damn slow it takes years to open.. my.conf file is [mysqld] key_buffer = 1536M max_allowed_packet = 1M max_connections = 250 max_user_connections = 15 wait_timeout=40 connect_timeout=10 table_cache = 512 sort_buffer_size = 2M read_buffer_size = 2M read_rnd_buffer_size = 8M myisam_sort_buffer_size = 64M thread_cache_size = 8 query_cache_size = 32M server-id = 14 old-passwords = 1 [mysqldump] quick max_allowed_packet = 16M [mysql] no-auto-rehash [myisamchk] key_buffer = 256M sort_buffer_size = 256M read_buffer = 2M write_buffer = 2M [mysqlhotcopy] interactive-timeout ihave checked log error file it says nothing.i have increased maximum connnection also to 1000 but still same problem is there .if i disconnect that one databasejust by changing the name of database i can see withing half hour the load of server and mysql goes down to negliglble .i have tested everything and if there are some query which can cause heavy load to server can you please list which type of query can cause heavy load on server then also for 5-10 pages it will never cause that much heavy load. i have seen server with 500 websites but was working just fine.
