  I have a headline in my document of level 3 and want the document hierarical numbered but it seems my level 3 headings do restart numbering at 1.1.1 and i have no clue why. it looks like that: 1. blah 1.1 blub 1.2 blub 2. blah 2.1 blub 2.2 blub 1.1.1 blubb <- shouldnt this be 2.2.1 ? 3. blah how can I correct this issue?

• Remote Desktop session on Windows Server 2003

  I have some problem when I use Remote Desktop, here some description. I set some application to autorun each time Administrator (console) was login on W2K3 SP2 server I use Remote Desktop from XP SP3, using the same login as Administrator It creates a new session with the same username and the application starts autorun which make duplicity in application I just hoping i can enforce the Remote Desktop client to connect into only one session (console session), toying with Group Policy setting, successfully enforce the one session, but whenever i close remote desktop (disconnect) the console got disconnected too (which I didn't want it to behave like that). I also try some setting to limit connection, still it doesn't behave as I want it too. Simple i just want to use 1 session, but each time we close remote desktop the session still alive, much like when we use VNC solution (RealVNC, UltraVNC, TinyVNC etc.) Any solution(s)?

  Is there a history log of each use of Remote Desktop. I'd like to view and audit IP addresses. I'm running a dedicated server hosted by a web hosting company. • Win 2003 Terminal Server, Logoff Domain Users after 30 mins

  We have a terminal server in our environment, where Domain\Domain Users can login through Remote Desktop. We want to force log off these users after half an hour. However Administrators (this includes Domain\Domain Admin also) should not be affected by this. They should be able to connect to terminal server with out any interruption.   Hello, I am trying to run process(console executable) on remote PC from asp.net application using WMI and get "Access is denied" problem. I have checked all event viewer logs on remote PC, no information related this. Where do I start searching for problem? Does Windows has some kind of permission monitor tool? • Active X Control issue on Terminal Server 2003

  I have a security camera system which can be viewed remotely via a web browser. It works excellent only with IE 6 and up and requires an ActiveX control "ERViewer.ocx". Some users require to view the cameras via Windows Terminal Server, but when they try to open the link to the DVR they get the prompt ti install the ActiveX and then the browser crashes when they try to install it. I logged in as admin and got the same issue. I called the tech support of the DVR but they have no idea, in other words, the usual useless tech support. Here is what I get in the error log Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.6000.16735, faulting module ERViewer.ocx, version 1.6.0.8, fault address 0x000064d7. I am sure it could be some kinda permission getting an ocx to run in IE. What else can I tweak?

• regsvr32 fails on Windows Server 2003 - LoadLibaray ("my.dll") failed

  The DLL in question is a VB6 web class. When deploying, the old one needs to be unregistered and the new one registered. This has worked for many years but has failed now with the following error in a message box: LoadLibrary("c:...\my.dll") failed - The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. I don't think there's a problem with the DLL being (un)registered because it's failing to unregister the existing DLL that was at one time successfully registered. I don't think there's a filename or path problem. Regsvr32 is executed using a batch file where the full path to the DLL is specified. The path has not changed. The batch file has not changed. The DLL has not changed (at least not the old one I need to unregister). It's a programming problem to me because I need to release an updated DLL, but I'm thinking it's maybe an admin problem best suited to the talents of the serverfault audience. I'm hoping somebody knows about a Windows Update or something that might hose regsvr32. Thank you.

• Exchange 2003 IMAP not working for some users

  We normally don't have a need for IMAP connections from outside the company network but in order to allow a one user to use IMAP on a portable device I've turned it on and opened port 993 on the firewall. When the user in question was unable to get connected I tested this using Outlook remotely. Start by creating a new IMAP account in Outlook using a test account. No problems, it worked perfectly. Now try the same thing using the account of the user who actually needs to connect and it's a no-go. Outlook simply keeps prompting for logon credentials. Next I tried using my own account and that too failed. Testing with a couple of other accounts worked perfectly. Interestingly enough, with my own account I've used IMAP on a MAC before (internally) without a problem and I'm not aware of anything that has changed which could affect IMAP on my account. Checking the user settings in ADUC showed that all accounts have the same Exchange protocol settings. Specifically, IMAP is enabled. A check of the event logs on the server reveals no entries for the connection attempts, making this kind of difficult to debug. Has anyone here encountered such a situation and, even more importantly, what caused it?

• Update KB951847 (3.5 SP1 and Family Update) fails on Windows Server 2003 repeatedly

  We have a Win2K3 server that is perpetually stuck on the following update: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86 It fails every time, and I'm at a loss on what to do about it. WHAT I'VE TRIED: Saw an article that said to turn off the update service, rename C:\Windows\SoftareDistribution\ and then restart the update service. Did this, ran the update, and it failed on this same one. I tried to run the update manually at C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads\Install\ and again it fails. Says, "None of the products that are addressed by this software update are installed on this computer. Click Cancel to exit setup." Because of this issue, none of the previous updates will work either. I will give one large pink-glazed donut with sprinkles to anyone who can help me slay this beast.

  I need to configure SSL for RDP, and am following the instructions described here: http://thelazyadmin.com/blogs/thelazyadmin/archive/2007/01/26/Configure-RDP-over-SSL-with-SelfSSL.aspx My client's server already has a SSL certificate (.cer file), and I attempted to import it so that Terminal Services would recognize it. The importing instructions I followed are: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816794#3. Unfortunately, when I click "Edit" from the "RDP-tcp Properties" dialog (for a Terminal Services certificate), no certificate appears. How can I get the certificate to appear here? Thanks!

• website not accessible with IIS6 while NAT is configured in Windows 2003

  I have Windows2003 server configured with IIS 6. Until now it was working fine, but since I enabled NAT for my users to access the internet via this server, the website becomes unavailable. Note that I have two nics on the server one is WAN and 2nd is for LAN. Both IPs are behind the firewall. If I stop the NAT then the website is available externally. I tried to search the answer in this forum but didn't find appropriate one or maybe didn't properly understand. I'll appreciate if anyone can help me sorting out this issue.

  When we try to connect to our file server with the new computer, it denies access. The computer is joined to the domain and I can see it on active directory. We need to connect to the file server for printing and terminal services. We have had this happen before and found that reinstalling Windows will fix the problem but I would like a speedier solution. any help would be appreciated.

• HTTP downloads slow - FTP of same file very fast - Windows 2003

  I am having some issues with download speeds on my site via http, i am averaging around 70kbps downloading a file that is around 70mb. But if i connect to my server via FTP and download the same file on the same computer / connection i am averaging about 300+kbps. I know my server has alot of connections at any one time, probably around 400 connections. My server has a 1gbps connection to the internet so there is plenty of bandwidth available, as proven with the FTP. I have no throttling of any kind enabled in IIS. • Sharing a printer over the net from Windows 7 to Windows Server 2003

  Hi, I need to share a printer that is connected to a Windows 7 computer. The windows 7 computer is in another building about an hours drive away. The computer that needs to access the printer is running Windows Server 2008. Ive tried setting the printer as 'shared' for 'everyone' on the Windows 7 PC and accessing it from the server by adding a TCP/IP port to the IP address but the printer just wont add. From googling aparently it may need setting up as a printer server through IIS, but i'm just not sure on the best practice. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks Grant Unwin

• Windows Server 2003: smtp and ftp services keep shutting down after a while

  If I go into the IIS manager and start ftp and smtp, after about an hour or so they will have been shutdown. There is nothing in the event viewer to explain why they would shut down. IIS webserver continues to run with no problem. I don't see any options in their configuration that would cause this. Any tips on how to troubleshoot this?

  I just installed sbs2003 R2 as a learning lab box on my home network. The install seemed to take quit a while with a bit of shuffling between disks 4 and 5. The continue setup checklist showed the red x besides the exchange install and finally gave me an error about the "schema needing extending run, forest /adprep" and told me at the end that the install did not succeed. After a longer than normal reboot it comes up and seems to be OK. What logs do i need to check to see what went wrong? Should i reinstall and try burning the iso's to new media? cheers

In outlook I have created a rule in the “noreply” account where I chose following conditions: Send to a person or distributed list (where I selected my distributed group) Then to specify what to do with that message I selected Have server reply using a specific message I’ve created my message and saved it.   Hi all, we have CRL that is valid for 24 hours and has a next update in 12 hours. The CRL is valid from 12:12 AM to 12:12 AM and from 12:12 PM to 12:12 PM. In the logs of the CRL hosting webserver we see that one of our servers not always fetches the CRL at night, in most cases the server that missed the CRL IIS servers 403.16 on 12:13 PM. Is our following theory good: when a windows server misses fetching the CRL on it's nextUpdate but the current CRL is still valid, the fetching is not retried? This leads to a situation that when the CRL expires there is no overlap and gives a little time of 403.16 situations in IIS since the CRL is not thrusted and so all certificates are marked als unsafe? greetings, Tim

• Public folder not visible from front end Exchange 2003 Server

  I have a public folder that does not receive emails when the emails are sent via the Front-End Exchange Servers. When I go into the System Manager on the Front-End I don't see this particular public folder listed under the Public Folders. However, I do see it listed from the Front-End server. I see the emails that are not making it to the public folder listed in the local delivery queue on the front end server and they are in a retry state. Does anyone know how I might troubleshoot this?

• Custom animation problem in Powerpoint 2003

  I have an animation of a grid that scrolls to the left. It's a Gantt chart, and it works fine. I then have several elements I want to drop on the grid, I give them all the same movement animation and this works fine, everything scrolls at the same speed and time. However I want to add entrance animations for the elements on the grid, I can have it so that when all the entrance animations are complete then it starts scrolling, but I want it to enter whilst it is scrolling. How do you have an entrance animation for an element and keep it's position updated? The entrance animation and movement animation don't seem to work together as expected when run simultaneously. cheers!
