  • Can I use manifests to specify an optional dependency on a COM server?

    I'd like to use manifests to specify a dependency on a COM server (reg-free COM). The consumer application will mostly work fine without the COM server - only something like 1,7% of its functionality uses the COM server. So with plain old regsvr32 it would start and work fine until the user would do something that would trigger CoCreateInstance() call and at that point the consumer would get an error message. Now I've played with manifests for a while and it looks like the consumer wouldn't even start unless the COM server assembly it depends on is present in the file system. That's no good. Is there a way to use reg-free COM with manifests and make the dependency optional - so that the consumer program starts and works fine until CoCreateInstance() is actually called?

  • How can I get web pages from sub.a.com using url sub.b.com?

    I have developed www.mysite.com. This site can be "integrated" into my partners website. What I do is to create partner1.mysite.com and repalce my header and footer with my partners header and footer and replace some CSS styling. This should make it as transaprent as possible for the user, so that they think they are still browsing my partners website. There are two ways I see how I can accomplish this: 1. My partner uses an IFrame to show the content from partner1.mysite.com 2. My partner creates sub domain and points it to my sub domain. Solution 1 is easy, but I'm not sure how search engines likes this, so I will try solution 2. QUESTION Can I use mysite.partner1.com but read content from partner1.mysite.com? I don't want to forward / redirect users to partner1.mysite.com. It's important that the URL is mysite.partner1.com / mysite.partner1.com/some/page. Is this possible?     This question is to help me (us) ask better questions of this community to encourage better working together. What questions here bring out the best in you? I don't mean which are the best / most appropriate questions but which bring the best out of you? That is, it brings out your best thinking and most constructive behaviour. Consider, for example, questions that make you think or that are asked in a certain way. Or consider specific a question should be. Or more abstractly, questions asked on a certain day / time, ... So I'm not necessarily asking about specific subjects but rather how a question is asked. What inspires you to drop everything and start answering? This comes from my observing questions that get highest points - I’m graduating with a Computer Science degree but I don’t feel like I know how to program. is very positive but my first ever question caused a minor storm. Ironically, I'm nervous posting this question so please don't attack if this is inappropriate.

  • Java - StackOverflow Error on recursive 2D boolean array method that shouldn't happen.

    Hey everyone, I'm working on a runnable java applet that has a fill feature much like the fill method in drawing programs such as Microsoft Paint. This is how my filling method works: 1.) The applet gets the color that the user clicked on using .getRGB 2.) The applet creates a 2D boolean array of all the pixels in the window, with the value "true" if that pixel is the same color as the color clicked on or "false" if not. The point of this step is to keep the .getRGB method out of the recursive method to hopefully prevent this error. 3.) The applet recursively searches the 2D array of booleans where the user clicked, recording each adjacent point that is "true" in an ArrayList. The method then changes each point it records to false and continues. 4.) The applet paints every point stored in the ArrayList to a user selected color. All of the above steps work PERFECTLY if the user clicks within a small area, where only a few thousand pixels or so have their color changed. If the user selects a large area however (such as about 360,000 / the size of the applet window), the applet gets to the recursive stage and then outputs this error: Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-1" java.lang.StackOverflowError at java.util.ArrayList.add(ArrayList.java:351) at paint.recursiveSearch(paint.java:185) at paint.recursiveSearch(paint.java:190) at paint.recursiveSearch(paint.java:190) at paint.recursiveSearch(paint.java:190) at paint.recursiveSearch(paint.java:190) at paint.recursiveSearch(paint.java:190) at paint.recursiveSearch(paint.java:190) (continues for a few pages) Here is my recursive code: public void recursiveSearch(boolean [][] list, Point p){ if(isValid(p)){ if(list[(int)p.y][(int)p.x]){ fillPoints.add(p); list[(int)p.y][(int)p.x] = false; recursiveSearch(list, new Point(p.x-1,p.y));//Checks to the left recursiveSearch(list, new Point(p.x,p.y-1));//Checks above recursiveSearch(list, new Point(p.x+1,p.y));//Checks to the right recursiveSearch(list, new Point(p.x,p.y+1));//Checks below } } } Is there any way I can work around an error like this?   • Blogger.com kills FTP

    History (you can safely ignore) Back in 2002 I came across some (almost) free Linux/Apache space and set up my first manually-created HTML-based home page, which still exists: http://www.danielmoth.com/. In 2004 I wanted to have a blog that would be hosted on a sub-folder of my domain, and at the same time I did not want to mess with setting up a blog engine myself. I found the perfect solution in blogger.com, which offered a web interface for creating blog posts (and managing the pages' template) and it would then use FTP to upload HTML pages to my space (no server-side programming/installation required at all)! FTP feature dropped by blogger.com Unfortunately, along the way Google purchased blogger.com and a couple of months ago they announced that they decided to kill the FTP feature, and they are forcing customers using that feature to have their content hosted (in an opaque way) on Google's servers. Even though I prefer having my content on my own space, I would have considered moving it to Google's servers if I could host my blog in a sub-folder and preserve my full blog URL: http://www.danielmoth.com/Blog/ (including my home pages being hosted at the root of the domain). Sadly, that is not possible. What now So I decided to move my blog somewhere else. I'll document on the next few posts how I did that (inc. a tool I wrote) in case it helps someone else in the same situation and also as a reminder to me if I need to do something like this again in the future.     I've had a Wordpress.com weblog for 3 years. And its pages have a good pagerank and are shown in first search results pages. Because of the limitations, I should migrate to my own WordPress. How to migrate safely with the minimum SEO problems? (I know how to export content in wordpress.com and import it to a new wordpress.org blog.) Note 1: links structure and site design are different on the new wordpress blog. (I don't like wordpress.com links structure :| ) Note 2: as you know, it's not possible to edit .htaccess file on wordpress.com. so I can't use 301 redirects.

  • Facebook link to facebook.com/company-page doesn't work

    For the last 2 days I'm trying to find the reason why my previous setup, which was a link to my websites Facebook pages doesn't work anymore. I assume that I mistakenly changed something in the Facebook developer area, but I can't remember what it was. The bottom linked my previously to the Facebook.com/company-page, now the same Bottom links me just to Facebook.com. I guess I saw some redirect in the tab, but I'm not sure since it's too fast changing to Facebook.com. The original link in the footer is correct : <a href="http://facebook.com/company-page " target="_blank" class="facebook_ico"></a>. Any ideas?

  • How can you test communication on a COM/Serial port?

    We have a OHAUAS Weighting scales with a COM port. if we connect this to a PC we should be able to get the weight on the computer by sending a command to it. Is there a way to test this? i tried the command line echo "LP" com1 but this does nothing. A small C# application that listens to this port seems to be continuously receive Hexadecimal numbers (2 digits then an enter), however sending a command through this application doesn't give readable results. When i do listen on the port though, the echo "LP" com1 command gives an unavaible error, so sending the command works in cmd. Does anyone have any knowledge on a simple way to test a send and receive on a com port?
