• Bug fix for Eclipse runtime plugin

  This blog is intended to inform about bug fix that solves this issue. Before continuing further, one important note – the linux and mac users do not need to read further because this bug appears only on Windows.  The problem was that the runtime plugin registered new runtime and server each time the Eclipse started. Users ended up with server view looking like this: I have created new runtime plugin which is now available at the update site http://download.java.net/glassfish/eclipse/indigo (or the same ending with juno for Juno users). You will still need to unistall the buggy plugin and (optionally but recommended) to remove runtimes created by this plugin. Here is the guide how to install bugfix: Uninstall buggy runtime plugin via menu Help->About Eclipse->Installation details. Remove runtimes created by old plugin – via Window->Preferences->Server->Runtime Environment. After pressing remove button you may be asked if you want to remove also the servers based on runtime being removed. Recommended is to do so. Now you can install new runtime plugin. Go to Help->Install New Software. You may ask why I haven‘t provided the update for buggy runtime which could be installed via Check for updates feature of Eclipse. It has two main reasons: The bug fix is needed only for Windows users so I didn't want to bother other users by updating working plugin. The runtime plugin has had structure that was not quite suitable for Eclipse update. This structure is now changed so future bugs (I am sure that there will be no such ;)) can be fixed by standard update. Have a good one!

• Import Eclipse Plugin

  Hey everybody, I developed an Eclipse plugin (a view) using the plugin development version of Eclipse. I exported the plugin as a jar archive and now I would like import it in another version of Eclipse, but it doesn't recognize the plugin. This is my first plugin so I might have forgotten something obvious. I searched the internet for hours but didn't find anything. Does anybody know what else I have to do? Btw, the dependencies of my plugin are: org.eclipse.ui, org.eclipse.core.runtime, org.eclipse.core.filesystem, edu.tum.cs.eclipse.commons, org.eclipse.ui.ide, org.eclipse.core.resources The version I'd like to import it in is the default Eclipse for PHP Developers from eclipse.org. • Objective-C Plugin Architecture Security (Mac, not iphone)

  I'm possibly writing a plugin system for a Cocoa application (Mac, not iphone). A common approach is the make each plugin a bundle, then inject the bundle into the main application. I'm concerned with the security implications of doing this, as the bundle will have complete access to the Objective-C runtime. I am especially concerned with a plugin having access to the code that handles registration and serial keys. Another plugin system we are considering is based on distributed notifications. Basically, each plugin will be a separate process, and they will communicate via distributed notifications only. Is there a way to load bundles securely (e.g. sandboxing)? If not, do you see any problems with using distributed notifications? Are there any other plugin architectures that would be better?

• C# DLL reference changes version and becomes unloadable (Plugin-system)

  I will try to keep this as simple as possible. I have a rather simple plugin system that has run into a problem. I have 2 assemblies: Host.exe Plugin.dll Plugin.dll references Host.exe (which contains interfaces and classes that Plugin.dll implement and use). At runtime, Host.exe loads Plugin.dll through reflection and this works great. Except when Host.exe updates and gets a new version number. Then I get an error once I try to load Plugin.dll, saying that Host.exe (with the old version number) can't be found. This means I have to rebuild all plugins every time Host.exe changes build number. Anyone got a solution to this?

  My site is running on apache. two instances of wordpress exist under paths /tr/ and /eng/. I want to move the setup to nginx but could not manage to get it working. My setup consists of nging 0.7.66, php 5.3.2, and php-fpm. /tr/ and /eng/ are two separate wordpress instances located under /home/istci/webapps/wordpress_tr and /home/istci/webapps/wordpress respectively. • How much effort is involved in moving a WordPress site to a private server? [on hold]

  I work in tech, but am on the business side. I have a WordPress site that I would like to move to a personal server and associate with a new domain name. I already have a server (actually, a friend is letting me use his) and the domain name. A friend-of-a-friend, who claims to be an IT pro, has agreed to help, but now is asking for what feels like a lot of money for what he says is a pretty time-intensive job. This doesn't sound right to me, so I thought I would ask here: Would it take months or even days to move the content, and why would it have to be moved in stages? The blog currently uses a basic template and has about 1000 posts. How much effort is really involved in moving a WordPress site from one server to another? Can anyone explain the process? Would it just make more sense to point the domain name at the existing WordPress blog, and pay the nominal yearly fee? I appreciate any answers you can provide.

• Could Wordpress be used/extended as a medium-size ecommerce site? [migrated]

  Is wordpress reliable enough and could it be used with a proper plugin as a medium sized ecommerce site? We are talking around 1500 products here, estimates say around 5 to 10 costumers per day, usually returning ones. Some days none. I have a client who wants to sell online. We are situated in a country where people dont see web as something serious enough. Still, they literally have a budget of pretty much none. And 1500 products to sell online. Magento, or any other open source ecommerce platform are out of the question, there is just no resources for starting something like that. Or any time. Only way is something free, small, absolutely not resource hungry as Wordpress. I have to fight with making it work with only what i have at disposal. Also, if you can recommend any wordpress plugin for the job(WP-ecommerce?), i will be very thankful. I guess something paid, up to maximum 50$ would work too.

• Problem configuring Apache/Wordpress on subdomain

  I have two servers (one LAMP, one Windows) and one website with an associated blog. I'm running the main site on the Windows server, and the blog on the LAMP server, using Wordpress. The main site is accessed at http://folketsting.dk (it's in Danish -- sorry), the blog is accessed at http://blog.folketsting.dk (this link is bad, read on). The main site works fine. The blog works, except for the frontpage. Example of working post: http://blog.folketsting.dk/2009/10/09/ftlive/. The frontpage of the blog (http://blog.folketsting.dk) shows html from http://folketsting.dk however (except for the css and javascript). In fact, any other URL than the frontpage "works", and gets served by Wordpress e.g. http://blog.folketsting.dk/foo. I cannot -- for the life of me -- understand how the LAMP server running http://blog.folketsting.dk manages to serve up content generated by the Windows server running http://folketsting.dk. Looking at the response headers at http://blog.folketsting.dk, it's evident that the content originates from Apache, not IIS. I'm pretty sure it's not a DNS-issue, since the problem is evident even when accessing the raw IP, eg. http://130.226.142.141/ vs. http://130.226.142.141/foo. I'm thinking it's a bad config in Apache... any clues?

• Nginx ignores HTTP Authentication for WordPress login directory

  I am running WordPress in a subfolder of my domain for testing and development purposes on a VPS LEMP-stack. In order to password-protect the wp-login.php with an etxra layer, I used HTTP authentication for the wp-admin folder. The problem is that the http authentication is ignored. When the wp-login.php or wp-admin-folder is called, it goes directly to the normal WordPress-login. • IIS 7.5 error 500 in fastcgi module after upgrading wordpress to 3.0.2

  I am running multiple wordpress blogs on the following setup: Server 2008 R2; IIS 7.5; PHP 5.3.3; MySQL 5.0.7; I upgraded my wordpress install from 2.9.2 to 3.0.2 (on 2 different sites) today and the upgrade went fine. I can serve .php pages without errors, log into the admin system etc. I can browse my blog by going directly to mywebsite.com/index.php, but when I try to go to mywebsite.com (without the index.php) I get he below 500 error. I reset IIS, removed and re-attached the default document, but I am running out of ideas. Please if anyone has a solution for this that would be great. • Running WordPress and Ghost on Apache with mod_proxy

  I currently have three WordPress sites hosted on Apache with virtual host files to direct the right domain to the right DocumentRoot. Ghost (node.js) just came out and I've wanted to tinker with it and just play around on one of my spare domains. I'm not really interested in moving over to nginx so I'm trying to get Ghost working on Apache via mod_proxy. I've managed to get Ghost working on my spare domain, but I think there's a problem with my virtual host files, as all of my other domains start pointing to Ghost as well. Here are two virtual host files, one for my main WordPress site that works fine, and the second for Ghost. Domains removed and replaced with DOMAIN and DOMAIN2. • Dedicated virtual setup is slow with WordPress

  Hey. I'm running a Fedora linux server on the Amazon EC2 platform. I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with my configuration as it seems to be very slow. SSH sometimes takes over 30 seconds to connect, a WordPress generated web page could take 5 seconds to load, and it could take 20 seconds to load, which is pretty awkward. MySQL queries are all executed in less than a second, so I don't think that's the case. I'm not really sure where the issue lies, but a simple page written in PHP loads instantly. A fresh WordPress installation starts lagging. Same works perfect on grid hosting at MediaTemple for instance, so I'm pretty sure I missed something. If you could please direct me to the right tools and articles which would help me out. Thanks so much! Fedora Core 8, php 5.2.6, MySQL 5.0.45, OpenSSH 4.7p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8b. • Move the uploads folder in Wordpress

  Currently, my Wordpress' upload folder is located in \wp-content\uploads. Initially there was no structure so all files were put there. After a while it was changed to upload the files in \wp-content\uploads\YEAR\MONTH. Now that folder contains a mix of files (those starting with + are folders) like: +wp-content | +2010 | | +02 | | | File-1 | | | File-2 | | | .. | | | File-n | | +01 | | | File-1 | | | File-2 | | | .. | | | File-n | +2009 | | +12 | | | File-1 | | | File-2 | | | .. | | | File-n | | +11 | | | File-1 | | | File-2 | | | .. | | | File-n | +.. | | | .. | Unstructured-file-1 | Unstructured-file-2 | ... | Unstructured-file-n Based on the dates of the unstructured files, I would like to move them in a structured hierarchy (based on date, move it to a folder \wp-content\uploads\YEAR\MONTH). Now, my questions are: Where do I write and execute a script to the movement (I don't have full access to the server, just to a cPanel and to the Wordpress Admin page)? What must be updated so that the links in posts, that reference the unstructured files, point to the new location of those files? Not fully related to the previous description: is it alright to move the whole uploads folder to another location, like \uploads? PS: Moving the files/updating the database manually is not an option :)

  Ok, so I've made a site template in pure html and I need to convert it into wordpress. Notice also how I have a span inside each li element. Is there a way to reproduce this in my wordpress theme without just manually copying this into it?

• "Server not found" errors all over after Wordpress installation

  I uploaded my Wordpress blog from my local machine to Slicehost and then pointed the domain name to the IP address. Then I installed the blog as normal. Once I went to wp-login.php to login, though, I started getting "Server not found" errors. That was strange because the server process was still running, and I checked many times. I can't see anything wrong in the error log, or the access log either. This doesn't only affect Wordpress. I can't access phpmyadmin either now, which was mapped to a subdirectory of the same domain address. What is going on? Can anyone help? Edit: the blog is located on a subdomain. It's still accessible from IP address. The virtual host configs are ServerName and ServerAlias, both set to blog.mysite.com. When I changed those and restarted apache, phpmyadmin came back. Edit: also it's not a propagation issue because I installed the blog from the domain name. It's only when I tried to log into the admin section, I started getting these errors.

• Wordpress.. Is it a CMS?

  I recently was contacted by a client who simply wanted to increase their organic rankings in Google. My approach was to do the following: A) Take them off of their overpriced host and move them to a nicer, cheaper, more feature-rich hosting solution which included a simple Wordpress install. B) Apply a theme to WordPress which followed the look and feel of their existing website. C) Train my client on how to login to their copy of Wordpress and create/manage pages/posts. This took me very little time.. Most of the work in converting asp forms into php and tweaking a theme to fit their design. Now my client is able to create/manage as many pages or posts as they desire. I believe, for this purpose, Worpress was the easiest solution. Would you categorize Wordpress as a CMS? • Looking for a AutoZoom browser plugin

  I have a pretty large 24" wide screen with a pretty high resolution. When I browse, some sites have a fixed layout and there is basically a narrow column. So I typically zoom in to the point just before the level where I have to scroll horizontally. Is there a browser plugin that auto-zooms in (or via a button or gesture or whatever) to the max available real estate? I'd prefer a plugin for Chrome, but Firefox will do too.

  Hi all. I have a domain name, and a wordpress account. The domain name isn't hosted anywhere at the moment. I just want to set it up so that my wordpress blog uses the domain. According to the wordpress help page on this issue, i have to do the following: Update your domain’s name servers to the following. Make sure to remove any existing name servers that are already there. NS1.WORDPRESS.COM NS2.WORDPRESS.COM NS3.WORDPRESS.COM So, this is the only thing that i need a server for - if i even need a server at all? Is there a really simple way i can do this for free? Or for very cheap? I'm a bit ignorant about this stuff: i do rails coding but don't get involved in the really technical stuff to do with servers and dns and what have you.

• Keep permalinks in Wordpress

  Is there any way to set my permalinks to keep their exact link. If I have a post like this one http://blog.rigo.ro/?p=11, then I would like that every time I edit the post to keep this link. I have installed the Revision Control plugin and I set it to do not keep revisions. Any ideea how to do this? I want to keep this format of links. Edit: I took a look again, the permalinks keep their links, but every time I edit it adds a new version to the database and the next post will have a higher number. If I edit my current post for 3 times (blog.rigo.ro/?p=11) the next post will be blog.rigo.ro/?p=14. Now, my question is how can I keep all my post and edits clean, one post/more edits = one entry in the database, so if I have. 10 post on my site and I edit them, I would like that my permalinks to be from 1 to 10. PS: I don't want to edit my database manually, is there any plugin to do this?
