• Permissions denied on apache rewrite module virtual host configuration

  All of a sudden I keep getting "Permissions denied" on apache 2 virtualhost once we moved it to its own conf file. I have tried all the suggestions I have found here but none work. Please can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? • Rack::ResponseHeaders in rackup for Sinatra

  I think this is a very easy one, but I can't seem to get it right. Basically, I'm trying to use Rack middleware to set a default Cache-Control header into all responses served by my Sinatra app. It looks like Rack::ResponseHeaders should be able to do exactly what I need, but I get an error when attempting to use the syntax demonstrated here in my rackup file: use Rack::ResponseHeaders do |headers| headers['X-Foo'] = 'bar' headers.delete('X-Baz') end I was able to get Rack::Cache to work successfully as follows: use Rack::Cache, :default_ttl => 3600 However, this doesn't achieve exactly the output I want, whereas Rack::ResponseHeaders gives fine-grained control of the headers. FYI, my site is hosted on Heroku, and the required Rack gems are specified in my .gems manifest. Thanks! Update: After doing some research, it looks like the first issue is that Rack::ResponseHeaders is not found in the version of rack-contrib (0.9.2) which was installed. I'll start by looking into that.

• Trying to parse xml, but xmldocument.loadxml() is trying to download?

  I have a string input that i do not know whether or not is valid xml. I think the simplest aprroach is to wrap new XmlDocument().LoadXml(strINPUT); In a try/catch. The problem im facing is, sometimes strINPUT is an html file, if the header of this file contains <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC ""-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"" ""http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd""> <html xml:lang=""en-GB"" xmlns=""http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"" lang=""en-GB""> ...like many do, it actually tries to make a connection to the w3.org url, which i really dont want it doing. Anyone know if its possible to just parse the string without trying to be clever and checking external urls? Failing that is there an alternative to xmldocument?

• Ruby ways to authenticate using headers?

  I am designing an API system in Ruby-on-Rails, and I want to be able to log queries and authenticate users. However, I do not have a traditional login system, I want to use an APIkey and a signature that users can submit in the HTTP headers in the request. (Similar to how Amazon's services work) Instead of requesting /users/12345/photos/create I want to be able to request /photos/create and submit a header that says X-APIKey: 12345 and then validate the request with a signature. Are there any gems that can be adapted to do that? Or better yet, any gems that do this without adaptation? Or do you feel that it would be wiser to just have them send the API key in each request using the POST/GET vars?

Back then it was UTF-8 so I chose UTF-8 for the project's text file encoding. When I make changes in any PHP file using Aptana, it gives the error: Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent... I know it's a problem related to encoding. What can I do?

• Telling between a "natural" HTTP 404 and a PHP Generated one

  So I have a file that should never be accessed by a user directly, but included in another PHP file. If the file is called directly, it generates a HTTP Status 404 Not Found to trick a possible attacker that such file doesn't exist. However, if the hacker could tell that the 404 was generated by PHP or is not "natural" then the whole point of the header would be lost. So is it possible to tell whether the 404 was generated by the server naturally (because the file really doesn't exist) or by a PHP code? PS: I know this question might seem pretty weird lol

How can I read the HTTP data - suppose I want to know the "User Agent" field value in the http header..how should I proceed ? I have searched the website (and googled a lot too), and could find a related thread here : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2073183/writing-a-http-sniffer. But this doesn't help me anywhere...   Hi guys, In Safari and other browsers, there is a bar that would indicate the percentage of the loading progress, and I, myself, trying to implement something similiar on iPhone, when loading some content in UIWebView, I would like the app to indicate the percentage of the page being loaded. I tried some google search and realize we could use NSURLConnection to read only the header and get the Content-Length ( but don't know how to, I read the Apple's NSURLConnection docs but probably I missed something ... ). And the size ( kb ) which UIWebView had loaded, seem like UIWebView don't support it for the public API... I hope this would be complete in some other ways than I thought, so if you have any ideas, please throw it out, thanks for your patient reading. P.S : I could just show an Activities Indicator for users with the long loading progress actions of the UIWebView but I just want to go further with the loading percentage bar :). Regards.

• Sign in as different user when using Integrated Windows Authentication

  I have restricted access to a site by using Integrated Windows Authentication and turning off anonymous access. This way I can then show them their real name (from looking up on Active Directory and using the server variable LOGON_USER) and do other related Active Directory tasks. How can I then prompt again for their user credentials, through a 'sign in as other user' link , showing the browser prompt (like you would get on a browser like Chrome or Firefox, or if the site was not in the 'Intranet' zone in IE) rather than a Web Form? Since SharePoint offers this functionality, I assume there is a way to do this through code, but I don't know what code can do this (using C#). I can send a 401 header which makes the prompt appear, but how do you then confirm if they are logged in?

If i pass as argument value in some Unicode language (etc Russian), then the value of the argument printed as question marks. How to solve the issue? • WPF DataGrid row validation error count

  Hi! I'm currently facing the problem, that I import an Excel file to a DataGrid. This works pretty fine, but after importing the table, I need to know how many rows are invalid. I have applied several validation rules for the different datatypes, and I have an icon in the row header, that shows up if the row is invalid. But since I have more that 10.000 rows in the grid, I don't want scroll all the way through it to find the errors. Any ideas, how to determine the count of invalid rows (and then maybe bind that to a textbox)? Thx

• Using multiple SWF Object - Flash doesn't focus on rollover

  I've got a page with multiple embeds of Flash objects, including dynamically created graphs. I'm including them all with SWF Object JS declared in the header. It works fine in the fact that all are loaded. But, for some reason when you move down on the page (so they're out of view) and back, or click on another object it no longer has focus when you're rolling over. I.e. I have a flash menu that moves on rollover. When you go down the page, click on something, then go back up it no longer response to rollover. I've seen bits on here and elsewhere about losing focus in Firefox (which is the browser Im using - i havent managed to find this bug in IE) but it's talking about literally not being able to type or whatever, when you click on it. This is on rollover. Has anyone got any advice or thoughts on this subject?

• New hire expectations... (Am I being unreasonable?)

  I work for a very small custom software shop. We currently consist me and my boss. My boss is an old FoxPro DOS developer and OOP makes him uncomfortable. He is planning on taking a back seat in the next few years to hopefully enjoy a “partial retirement”. I will be taking over the day to day operations and we are now desperately looking for more help. We tried Monster.com, Dice.com, and others a few years ago when we started our search. We had no success. We have tried outsourcing overseas (total disaster), hiring kids right out of college (mostly a disaster but that’s where I came from), interns (good for them, not so good for us) and hiring laid off “experienced” developers (there was a reason they were laid off). I have heard hiring practices discussed on podcasts, blogs, etc... and have tried a few. The “Fizz Buzz” test was a good one. One kid looked physically ill before he finally gave up. I think my problem is that I have grown so much as a developer since I started here that I now have a high standard. I hear/read very intelligent people podcasts and blogs and I know that there are lots of people out there that can do the job. I don’t want to settle for less than a “good” developer. Perhaps my expectations are unreasonable. I expect any good developer (entry level or experienced) to be billable (at least paying their own wage) in under one month. I expect any good developer to be able to be productive (at least dangerous) in any language or technology with only a few days of research/training. I expect any good developer to be able to take a project from initial customer request to completion with little or no help from others. Am I being unreasonable? What constitutes a valuable developer? What should be expected of an entry level developer? What should be expected of an experienced developer? I realize that everyone is different but there has to be some sort of expectations standard, right? I have been giving the test project below to potential canidates to weed them out. Good idea? Order header data will include Order Number, Customer ID (++), Order Date, Order Status (Open/Closed), etc. Order detail data will include Part Number (++), Quantity, Price, etc. User must be able to perform all CRUD operations on the order tables. User must be able to enter a specific Order Number to edit. User must be able to pull up a sortable/queryable search grid/utility to find an order to edit. User must be able to print an order form from within the order entry form. Validation must be performed prior to database commit. Reports Customer Listing – All Customers in the system. Inventory Listing – All parts in the system. Open Order Listing – All open orders in system. Customer Order Listing – All orders for specific customer. All reports must include sorts and filter functions where applicable. Ex. Customer Listing by range of Customer IDs. Open Order Listing by date range.

• c# wrapper for a c DLL

  I'm attempting to write a wrapper so that my C# application can use a DLL written in C. Here is a method defintion that i'm trying to wrap: void methodA(const uint32_t *data); //c header declaration The issue I'm having is trying to figure out how to give a equivalent pointer from c#. In c# I want it to operate on a: UInt32 data[] //my c# object i want to be able to pass in but how do I give an equivalent pointer in my wrapper? I have tried ref data //my attempt at giving an equivalent pointer to the DLL but that doesnt seem to be working. Using debug statements in the DLL I can see that the values it gets that way are not what I'm attempting to pass in. So my question boils down to have do I properly wrap a c fuction that is using a pointer to reference an array?

• How to Programmatically Identify a PI Font (a Dingbat) under OS X

  There is a class of fonts called Pi fonts whose glyphs, under OS X, get mapped to the private Unicode space 0xF021-0xF0FF such that if you subtract 0xF000 from each unicode character to retrieve the 8-bit version of the character and be able to draw that character as if it were a standard Roman character. My question is how do I recognize these fonts? It's obvious the system can do so because there is a category on the Special Characters palette called "Pi Fonts" which apparently has the various such fonts installed on my system. In my case they are BookshelSymbolSeven, MSReferenceSpeciality, MT-Extras, Marlett, MonotypeSorts, Webdings, and various Wingdings. If I use the old fashioned QuickDraw routines to ask for the TextEncoding of these fonts, I get a value of 0x20000 which I do not see in the system header file TextCommon.h. Am I supposed to treat any font with a TextEncoding of 0x20000 as a Pi Font? And I'd rather not use any QuickDraw font handling routines for obvious reasons.

• Dynamically showing fields to a Dev Express Grid view on windows form

  In one of windows application in C# , I am using Dev Express Grid view control to bind some data and display it to user. I have custom business objects with properties defined for this purpose.Then I simple set the DataSource of the grid to the list of my custom business objects. A while ago , there came a requirement which means that the columns to be displayed on to the grid will be dynamic. This means I cannot know at design time which fields I will need to display. I was thinking of abandoning setting the DataSource and populating the grid manually by code. But I think this will cause many of the grid's features not to work properly, for example , grouping the data by drag n drop of fields to the header area etc. Is there any way to tell a grid at runtime to skip certain fields from a list of BO's when databinding to the grid ?

• iphone Memory gets freed in debug mode but not in release mode

  I have been testing my iPhone debug build on both my device and simulator with activity monitor, leaks, and object allocations. The code is pretty well optimized so I have decided to test the release build. I went into the project Menu and set the target build to be release, I then added the necessary header paths that my app is using to the headers search paths and ran the release build on the device with the above mentioned instruments. What I have noticed now is that memory that was freed when I used the debug build does not get freed when using release version. There is one place in my App that I remove a scroll view with some images which frees up a significant amount of memory when I use the debug build, but no memory is freed up in that place when I use the release version. Does someone have any ideas where I need to start looking at? did I setup my release build wrong?

• How do I branch an individual file in SVN?

  The subversion concept of branching appears to be focused on creating an [un]stable fork of the entire repository on which to do development. Is there a mechanism for creating branches of individual files? For a use case, think of a common header (*.h) file that has multiple platform-specific source (*.c) implementations. This type of branch is a permanent one. All of these branches would see ongoing development with occasional cross-branch merging. This is in sharp contrast to unstable development/stable release branches which generally have a finite lifespan. I do not want to branch the entire repository (cheap or not) as it would create an unreasonable amount of maintenance to continuously merge between the trunk and all the branches. At present I'm using ClearCase, which has a different concept of branching that makes this easy. I've been asked to consider transitioning to SVN but this paradigm difference is important. I'm much more concerned about being able to easily create alternate versions for individual files than about things like cutting a stable release branch.

I have included this dll in source files folder and the header file related to it in headers folder. When i am running the application I am getting following liking error.
