• Python: disabling $HOME/.python-eggs?

  Is there an easy way to disable Python egg caching? We have the situation where a system account needs to run a python program which imports a module. Since this is a non-login robot account, it does not have a home directory, and dies trying to create the directory /.python-eggs. What's the best way to fix this? Can I convert my eggs in site-files to something which will not be cached in .python-eggs?

  I've been asked to add Google Earth images to a desktop app (civil engineering modelling app) I was under the impression that Google's license didn't allow you to do this. Are there any other easily accessible, and similarly high resolution, image sources anyone can recommend (Blue Marble, terraserver) ? As a bonus, any library that lets me use coordinates in a range of local map datums and convert them to Lat/Long without me having to incorporate the whole of CGAL?

  I need to convert a bunch of pdflatex only documents (because of graphics-- .pdf's jpgs & pngs) to html. tex4ht is giving a bunch of garbage output. the documents are built using the \input command. Is there anything I can do to help tex4ht with a pdflatex document? I've looked at many converters (pandoc, hevea, tth, latex2rtf) but none of them can include my figures well.   I'm getting increasingly frustrated with the limitations and verbosity required to actually commit some business logic to stored procedures, using languages such as Transact-SQL or PL/SQL. I would love to convert some current databases to Oracle and take advantage of its support for Java stored procedures, but that option is not available at the moment. What alternatives would you recommend in the way of databases that support stored procedures in other languages?
