  • Either .each do or .all isn't working how I think it should

    - by user1299656
    So whenever someone rates a shop, I want the Shop model to calculate its new average rating and store that in the database (instead of calculating the average every time someone looks at it). So I wrote the segment of code that follows, and it doesn't work. The loop always iterates exactly once, no matter how many shop_ratings in the database exist that have the shop's id as their shop_id. I played around with it a bit and found that every time a new rating is submitted the function is called successfully, but it only runs the loop once and sets the average to what the first rating was. I don't know if the "query" that sets the ratings variable is wrong or if it's the loop that's wrong. class Shop < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :shop_ratings attr_accessible :name, :latitude, :longitude validates_presence_of :name validates_presence_of :latitude validates_presence_of :longitude def distance_to(lat, long) return (self.longitude - long) + (self.latitude - lat) end def find_average total = 0 count = 0 ratings = ShopRating.all(:conditions => {:shop_id => id}) ratings.each do |submission| total = total + submission.rating count = count + 1 end update_attribute :average_rating, total/count end end

  • ocjective-c Obtain return value from public method

    - by Felix
    I'm pretty new to objective-C (and C in general) and iPhone development and am coming from the java island, so there are some fundamentals that are quite tough to learn for me. I'm diving right into iOS5 and want to use storyboards. For now I am trying to setup a list in a UITableViewController that will be filled with values returned by a web service in the future. For now, I just want to generate some mock objects and show their names in the list to be able to proceed. Coming from java, my first approach would be to create a new Class that provides a global accessible method to generate some objects for my list: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> @interface MockObjectGenerator : NSObject +(NSMutableArray *) createAndGetMockProjects; @end Implementation is... #import "MockObjectGenerator.h" // Custom object with some fields #import "Project.h" @implementation MockObjectGenerator + (NSMutableArray *) createAndGetMockObjects { NSMutableArray *mockProjects = [NSMutableArray alloc]; Project *project1 = [Project alloc]; Project *project2 = [Project alloc]; Project *project3 = [Project alloc]; project1.name = @"Project 1"; project2.name = @"Project 2"; project3.name = @"Project 3"; [mockProjects addObject:project1]; [mockProjects addObject:project2]; [mockProjects addObject:project3]; } And here is my ProjectTable.h that is supposed to control my ListView #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface ProjectsTable : UITableViewController @property (strong, nonatomic) NSMutableArray *projectsList; @end And finally ProjectTable.m #import "ProjectsTable.h" #import "Project.h" #import "MockObjectGenerator.h" @interface ProjectsTable { @synthesize projectsList = _projectsList; -(id)initWithStyle:(UITableViewStyle:style { self = [super initWithStyle:style]; if (self) { _projectsList = [[MockObjectGenerator createAndGetMockObjects] copy]; } return self; } - (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView { // only one section for all return 1; - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { NSLog(@"%d entries in list", _projectsList.count); return _projectsList.count; - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { // the identifier of the lists prototype cell is set to this string value static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"projectCell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; Project *project = [_projectsList objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; cell.textLabel.text = project.name } So while I think everything is correctly set, I expect the tableView to show my three mock objects in its rows. But it stays empty and the NSLog method prints "0 entries in list" into the console. So what am I doing wrong? Any help is appreciated. Best regards Felix

  • Set text equal to string and pass to receipt printer at a different size on iOS

    - by Max Roper
    I am using the StarIO SDK to print text to a receipt printer and I am trying to get a certain line of text larger than the rest. I have some help from their support but I can't really get it to go. -(void)print{ NSMutableString *final=[NSMutableString stringWithFormat:@"-----"]; [final appendFormat:@"\n\nLevel:%@ Section:%@ Row:%@ Seat:%@", [response_dict objectForKey:@"level"], [response_dict objectForKey:@"section"],[response_dict objectForKey:@"row"],[response_dict objectForKey:@"seat"]]; There is a bunch of other stuff that is printing, but that is the line that I would like to be a different size than the rest. The StarIO support said that I should try and pass that to this... -(IBAction)PrintText { NSString *portName = [IOS_SDKViewController getPortName]; NSString *portSettings = [IOS_SDKViewController getPortSettings]; [PrinterFunctions PrintTextWithPortname:portName portSettings:portSettings heightExpansion:heightExpansion widthExpansion:widthExpansion textData:textData textDataSize:[textNSData length]]; free(textData); } Would love some help if possible. :) Thanks so much. This is the main bit I think I would need from the StarIO Text formatting doc... - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil]; if (self) { array_hieghtExpansion = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [array_hieghtExpansion addObject:@"1"]; [array_hieghtExpansion addObject:@"2"]; [array_hieghtExpansion addObject:@"3"]; [array_hieghtExpansion addObject:@"4"]; [array_hieghtExpansion addObject:@"5"]; [array_hieghtExpansion addObject:@"6"]; array_widthExpansion = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [array_widthExpansion addObject:@"1"]; [array_widthExpansion addObject:@"2"]; [array_widthExpansion addObject:@"3"]; [array_widthExpansion addObject:@"4"]; [array_widthExpansion addObject:@"5"]; [array_widthExpansion addObject:@"6"]; array_alignment = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [array_alignment addObject:@"Left"]; [array_alignment addObject:@"Center"]; [array_alignment addObject:@"Right"]; } return self; } and int heightExpansion = [pickerpopup_heightExpansion getSelectedIndex]; int widthExpansion = [pickerpopup_widthExpansion getSelectedIndex];

  • Navigationcontroller, why isnt this working?

    - by f0rz
    Hi ! Why wont this work? View1 loads View2. In view2: - (void) goToView { View3 *plainText = [[Tabview_testViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"View3" bundle:nil]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:plainText animated: NO]; [plainText release]; } - (void)viewDidLoad { [self goToView]; [super viewDidLoad]; } This will not trigger navigationController to pushView, but if I add a button and setAction (goToView) it works perfectly. • Writing the code by dividing it into more files in cocoatouch.

    - by srikanth rongali
    My problem is, I need a background image, a sprite(with animation) on left edge, another sprite(with animation) at other edge, a number count animation 1-2-3 at middle. I got all these when I wrote all in same file.(like [self addChild:label], [self addChild:sprite].., But in this it needs touch enables for both sprites separately, and touchDisabled to the remaining screen. So thought of writing in different files. But now it is not working. I kept one sprite, background image, numbercount in one file and another spritr in other file. Either I am getting the second sprite or the (sprite+background+numberCount) is displayed. This is my problem. plz give me solution. Thank You

  • How to pass an int value on UIButton click inside UITableView

    - by Toran Billups
    So I have a view controller with a single UITableView that shows a string to the user. But I needed a way to have the user select this object by id using a normal UIButton so I added it as a subview and the click event works as expected. The issue is this - how can I pass an int value to this click event? I've tried using attributes of the button like button.tag or button.accessibilityhint without much success. How do the professionals pass an int value like this? Also it's important that I can get the actual [x intValue] from the int later in the process. A while back I thought I could do this with a simple NSLog(@"the actual selected hat was %d", [obj.idValue intValue]); But this doesn't appear to work (any idea how I can pull the actual int value directly from the variable?). The working code I have is below - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } if ([self.hats count] > 0) { Hat* obj = [self.hats objectAtIndex: [indexPath row]]; NSMutableString* fullName = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; [fullName appendFormat:@"%@", obj.name]; [fullName appendFormat:@" %@", obj.type]; cell.textLabel.text = fullName; cell.accessoryType = UITableViewCellAccessoryDetailDisclosureButton; //add the button to subview hack UIButton* button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect]; button.frame = CGRectMake(50, 5, 50, 25); [button setTitle:@"Select" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; button.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; button.adjustsImageWhenHighlighted = YES; button.tag = obj.idValue; //this is my current hack to add the id but no dice :( [button addTarget:self action:@selector(action:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [cell.contentView addSubview:button]; //hack } return cell; } - (void)action:(id)sender { int* hatId = ((UIButton *)sender).tag; //try to pull the id value I added above ... //do something w/ the hatId }

  • List in a Python class shares the same object over 2 different instances?

    - by zfranciscus
    I created a class: class A: aList = [] now I have function that instantiate this class and add items into the aList. note: there are 2 items for item in items: a = A(); a.aList.append(item); I find that the first A and the second A object has the same number of items in their aList. I would expect that the first A object will have the first item in its list and the second A object will have the second item in its aList. Can anyone explain how this happens ? PS: I manage to solve this problem by moving the aList inside a constructor : def __init__(self): self.aList = []; but I am still curious about this behavior

  • Problems using the Razor model when creating my knockout ViewModel

    I'm having problems with using the Model in a javascript call when setting up my knockout VM.. @model List<AdminGui.Models.Domain> <script src="http://ajax.aspnetcdn.com/ajax/knockout/knockout-2.2.1.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> function ViewModel() { var self = this; self.domains = ko.observableArray( ko.utils.arrayMap(@Model, function(item) { return new Domain(item.guid, item.description, item.namespaces); })); } I get a syntax error on @Model in the ko.utils.arrayMap call. I suspect it might be my Razor-fu that is lacking... :)

  • Change UIView alpha value

    - by Ask
    I'm trying to create an UIView and change its alpha property to simulate backlight change. Here is my code if (TransparentView == nil) { TransparentView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:self.view.bounds]; TransparentView.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; self.view = TransparentView; } start=start+appDelegate.OnOffTime; TransparentView.alpha = 0.2; float step = 1.0 / ( appDelegate.OnOffTime * 100); for (float f = 0; f < 1; f=f+step) { TransparentView.alpha = (CGFloat)(1 - f); [NSThread sleepForTimeInterval:0.01]; } Both TransparentView.alpha = 0.2 and TransparentView.alpha = (CGFloat)(1 - f) do change TransparentView.alpha, but only TransparentView.alpha = 0.2 changes real device "brightness'. What am I doing wrong?

  • can't save form content to database, help plsss!!

    - by dana
    i'm trying to save 100 caracters form user in a 'microblog' minimal application. my code seems to not have any mystakes, but doesn't work. the mistake is in views.py, i can't save the foreign key to user table models.py looks like this: class NewManager(models.Manager): def create_post(self, post, username): new = self.model(post=post, created_by=username) new.save() return new class New(models.Model): post = models.CharField(max_length=120) date = models.DateTimeField(auto_now_add=True) created_by = models.ForeignKey(User, blank=True) objects = NewManager() class NewForm(ModelForm): class Meta: model = New fields = ['post'] # widgets = {'post': Textarea(attrs={'cols': 80, 'rows': 20}) def save_new(request): if request.method == 'POST': created_by = User.objects.get(created_by = user) date = request.POST.get('date', '') post = request.POST.get('post', '') new_obj = New(post=post, date=date, created_by=created_by) new_obj.save() return HttpResponseRedirect('/') else: form = NewForm() return render_to_response('news/new_form.html', {'form': form},context_instance=RequestContext(request)) i didn't mention imports here - they're done right, anyway. my mistake is in views.py, when i try to save it says: local variable 'created_by' referenced before assignment it i put created_py as a parameter, the save needs more parameters... it is really weird help please!!

  • Best way to call other class view in iphone?

    - by aman-gupta
    Hi, Generally i call my other class view by creating a pointer of delegate and then call the other class by using its link as below:- First Way :- Mydelegate *ptr = (Mydelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication]delegate]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:ptr.NextClasspointer animated:YES]; Second Way :- Create a pointer of that class which u want to call :-- NextClass *nextptr = [[NextClass alloc]initWithnibName:@"NextClass" bundle:nil]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:nextptr animated:YES]; [nextptr release]; nextptr = nil; These above two methods i generally used but my problem is that which one is best for big project so that my stack problem will be removed I mean memory issue will be solved.And is it necessary to release pointer in first and second case is the way i release is correct or wrong Please help me Thanks in Advance

  • Redirect on catching an exception in a method in the model

    - by Arkid
    I am using Authlogic-connect to connect various service providers. There is a method in user.rb def complete_oauth_transaction token = token_class.new(oauth_token_and_secret) old_token = token_class.find_by_key_or_token(token.key, token.token) token = old_token if old_token if has_token?(oauth_provider) self.errors.add(:tokens, "you have already created an account using your #{token_class.service_name} account, so it") else self.access_tokens << token end end When a service provider is already added it gives the error as stated in the has_token? method and the page breaks. I need to redirect the app to the same page and flash the error. How do i do this? I have overridden the method in my own user.rb so that I can change the code.

  • How to make form validation in Django dynamic?

    - by Oli
    I'm trying to make a form that handles the checking of a domain: the form should fail based on a variable that was set earlier in another form. Basically, when a user wants to create a new domain, this form should fail if the entered domain exists. When a user wants to move a domain, this form should fail if the entered domain doesn't exist. I've tried making it dynamic overload the initbut couldn't see a way to get my passed variabele to the clean function. I've read that this dynamic validation can be accomplished using a factory method, but maybe someone can help me on my way with this? Here's a simplified version of the form so far: #OrderFormStep1 presents the user with a choice: create or move domain class OrderFormStep2(forms.Form): domain = forms.CharField() extension = forms.CharField() def clean(self): cleaned_data = self.cleaned_data domain = cleaned_data.get("domain") extension = cleaned_data.get("extension") if domain and extension: code = whoislookup(domain+extension); #Raise error based on result from OrderFormStep1 #raise forms.ValidationError('error, domain already exists') #raise forms.ValidationError('error, domain does not exist') return cleaned_data

  • How do I stop setNeedsDisplayInRect / drawRect coalescence?

    - by No One in Particular
    When programming my app, I get to the point where I have to update two rectangles on the screen. So I call [self setNeedsDisplayInRect:rect1] and then [self setNeedsDisplayInRect:rect2]. When my drawRect method is called, the rectangle parameter is the smallest rectangle which contains both rect1 and rect2. I can handle this with no problem, but when the two rectangles are far apart, then I am updating a lot of real estate with no gain. In this case, I would just like to repaint my two small rectangles. So my question is how can I prevent the underlying system from coalescing my two calls into one?

  • How do I calculate the offset, in hours, of a given timezone from UTC in ruby?

    - by esilver
    I need to calculate the offset, in hours, of a given timezone from UTC in Ruby. This line of code had been working for me, or so I thought: offset_in_hours = (TZInfo::Timezone.get(self.timezone).current_period.offset.utc_offset).to_f / 3600.0 But, it turns out that was returning to me the Standard Offset, not the DST offset. So for example, assume self.timezone = "America/New_York" If I run the above line, offset_in_hours = -5, not -4 as it should, given that the date today is April 1, 2012. Can anyone advise me how to calculate offset_in_hours from UTC given a valid string TimeZone in Ruby that accounts for both standard time and daylight savings? Thanks!

  • AppEngine GeoPt Data Upload

    - by Eric Landry
    I'm writing a GAE app in Java and only using Python for the data upload. I'm trying to import a CSV file that looks like this: POSTAL_CODE_ID,PostalCode,City,Province,ProvinceCode,CityType,Latitude,Longitude 1,A0E2Z0,Monkstown,Newfoundland,NL,D,47.150300000000001,-55.299500000000002 I was able to import this file in my datastore if I import Latitude and Longitude as floats, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to import lat and lng as a GeoPt. Here is my loader.py file: import datetime from google.appengine.ext import db from google.appengine.tools import bulkloader class PostalCode(db.Model): id = db.IntegerProperty() postal_code = db.PostalAddressProperty() city = db.StringProperty() province = db.StringProperty() province_code = db.StringProperty() city_type = db.StringProperty() lat = db.FloatProperty() lng = db.FloatProperty() class PostalCodeLoader(bulkloader.Loader): def __init__(self): bulkloader.Loader.__init__(self, 'PostalCode', [('id', int), ('postal_code', str), ('city', str), ('province', str), ('province_code', str), ('city_type', str), ('lat', float), ('lng', float) ]) loaders = [PostalCodeLoader] I think that the two db.FloatProperty() lines should be replaced with a db.GeoPtProperty(), but that's where my trail ends. I'm very new to Python so any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to handle date difference between client and server?

    - by daydreamer
    I have an API which looks like /summary/yyyy/mm Which returns the summary of their data for the year and month requested. One of the things it returns the number of days left if this is current year and month. For example: days_left: 9 for 2013 and 10 and current date on server is 21 Oct 2013 How I calculate remaining days? This is implemented in python as def current_financial_month_details(self): time_from, time_to = self \ .get_start_end_time_current_financial_month() today = datetime.today() from_time = datetime(year=today.year, month=today.month, day=today.day) return { 'time_from': time_from, 'time_to': time_to, 'remaining_days': (time_to - from_time).days } The problem? The server is in east coast and the client(me with browser) is on pacific time zone When its 9PM PST the time changes in east coast, so if I run hit /summary/2013/10 and if it is Oct 21 2013 for me on PST, the date has already changed on EST, so days_left: 8 which is incorrect on client end. right? How do I handle this situation?

  • Can I use string concatenation to define a class CONST in PHP?

    - by selfsimilar
    I know that you can create global constants in terms of each other using string concatenation: define('FOO', 'foo'); define('BAR', FOO.'bar'); echo BAR; will print 'foobar'. However, I'm getting an error trying to do the same using class constants. class foobar { const foo = 'foo'; const foo2 = self::foo; const bar = self::foo.'bar'; } foo2 is defined without issue, but declaring const bar will error out Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '.', expecting ',' or ';' I've also tried using functions like sprintf() but it doesn't like the left paren any more than the string concatenator '.'. So is there any way to create class constants in terms of each other in anything more than a trivial set case like foo2?
