• Subversion core on a sharedhosting

  Hi! I've signed up for a shared hosting plan in bluehost and tried installing a subversion by following this instruction: bluehost forum svn install script all goes well at first even tried svnadmin create project_name and was a success but then when I traverse to project_name I got this error "svn: '.' is not a working copy" when I run svn info. I think I may have encountered an error on the compilation process, can't remember exactly but i think it has something to do with a ".so" file when I run the make && make install command , something about permission. Any help or suggestion is very much appreciated. Thanks!

• How do I obtain a new stateful session bean in a servlet thread?

  I'm experimenting with EJB3 I would like to inject a stateful session bean into a servlet, so that each user that hits the servlet would obtain a new bean. Obviously, I can't let the bean be an instance variable for the servlet, as that will be shared. And apparantly injecting local variables isn't allowed. I can use the new operator to create a bean, but that doesn't seem the right approach. Is there a right way to do this? It seems like what I'm trying to do is fairly straightforward, after all, we would want each new customer to find an empty shopping cart.

  msdn: "Any public static (Shared in Visual Basic) members of this type are thread safe. Any instance members are not guaranteed to be thread safe." it contains only instance methods. How should I use it in a way that all activity gets recorder by TextWriterTraceListener to a text file. Is one static member which all threads use (by calling) TraceEvent-method safe. (I've kind of asked this question in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1901086/how-to-instantiate-c-tracesources-to-log-multithreaded-asp-net-2-0-web-applica, but I cannot just believe if somebody just says it's OK despite the documentation).

• Sharepoint calendar webpart change views

  Hi there, I created a calendar list, and I added the calendar web part in another web part page. I noticed that i can not change the view without going to edit mode, then go to modify shared web part. But in the home page of the calendar. There is a same calendar web part with a drop down menu to change views. Also, there is a small calendar connected to the main calendar web part in the left navigation area. I don't know how to add it to my web part page. How can i make it look the same on my web part page? Thanks, Jason

• Bypassing rack version error using Rails 2.3.5

  I'm currently on Dreamhost attempting to run a Rails 2.3.5 app. Here is the situation, Dreamhost's servers have Rails 2.2.2 installed. Of course, I can't update a shared host's rails version, so I froze my Rails in vendor. Rails 2.3.5 requires the rack v1.0.1 gem. Dreamhost uses the rack v1.0.0 gem. So when I try to define: config.gem "rack", :version => "1.0.1" I get: can't activate rack (~> 1.0.1, runtime) for [], already activated rack-1.0.0 for [] So what I really need to do is bypass my app's request to use 1.0.1, and use Dreamhost's 1.0.0. Does anyone know how to configure this? Is it even possible? Thanks for the help.

• ASP.NET MVC 2 - Account controller not found

  Hi all, I've recently created an ASP.NET MVC 2 application, which works perfectly in the development environment. However, when I deploy it to the server (123-reg Premium Hosting), I can access all of the expected areas - except the Account controller (www.host.info/Account). This then attempts to redirect to the Error.aspx page (www.host.info/Shared/Error.aspx) which it cannot find. I've checked that all of the views have been published, and they're all in the correct place. It seems bizarre that two other controllers can be accessed with no problems, whereas the Account controller cannot be found. I have since renamed the AccountController to SecureController, and all of the dependencies, to no avail. The problem with not being able to find the Error.aspx page also occurs on the development environment. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chris

• Xcode custom project template creates only references to files

  Hi, I tried to create a custom project template for setting up unit testing. The problem is that when i create a new project based on this template it creates references to the template files : When i edit a file, it changes my template files instead of my actual project files ! When i delete my template, files from my actual project becomes red ! The project template is in : /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/Library/Xcode/Project Templates/Application/Test-based Application Reading some question on stack overflow i tried to install my template project in /Library/Application Support/Developer/Shared/Xcode/Project Templates But i cannot see my template when i create a new project. • How to add a view helper directory (zend framework)

  Hi, I begin with ZF (1.9.7), and I want to use View Helpers from a library shared between all my projects. But I can't find how to add it directory to the helpers path. My herpers works fines when I put them in application's helpers path. • c#: IsNullableType helper class ?

  Hi there, Can anyone help? I have some code that is shared between 2 projects. The code points to a model which basically is a collection of properties that comes from a db. Problem being is that some properties use nullable types in 1 model and the other it doesn't Really the dbs should use the same but they don't .. so for example there is a property called IsAvailble which uses "bool" in one model and the other it uses bool? (nullable type) so in my code i do the following objContract.IsAvailble.Value ? "Yes" : "No" //notice the property .VALUE as its a bool? (nullable type) but this line will fail on model that uses a standard "bool" (not nullable) as there is no property .VALUE on types that are NOT nullable Is there some kind of helper class that i check if the property is a nullable type and i can return .Value .. otherwise i just return the property. Anybody have a solution for this?

  I'm trying to show a context menu when I left-click a NotifyIcon. Just calling NotifyIcon.ContextMenuStrip.Show() doesn't work very well. A solution has been posted here before that calls a secret method using Reflection: Dim mi As System.Reflection.MethodInfo = GetType(NotifyIcon).GetMethod("ShowContextMenu", Reflection.BindingFlags.Instance Or Reflection.BindingFlags.NonPublic) mi.Invoke(Icon, Nothing) This works great, except that I also need to control where the menu is shown. I want to wait for the SystemInformation.DoubleClickTime to elapse between receiving the NotifyIcon.MouseUp event and displaying the menu, so that I can handle single-clicks and double-clicks separately. But invoking the ShowContextMenu method displays the menu at the current mouse position when ShowContextMenu is called, not when the icon was actually clicked. Which means that if the mouse moved during the DoubleClickTime, the menu will be displayed in a different part of the screen. So if I can control where the menu is shown, I can just save the mouse coordinates when I receive the MouseUp event, and then I can ensure that the menu is displayed near the icon. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advance.

  I have written up a python script that allows a user to input a message, his email and the time and they would like the email sent. This is all stored in a mysql database. However, how do I get the script to execute on the said time and date? will it require a cron job? I mean say at 2:15 on april 20th, the script will search the database for all times of 2:15, and send out those emails. But what about for emails at 2:16? I am using a shared hosting provided, so cant have a continously running script. Thanks

• How to write a linter?

  In my day job I, and others on my team write a lot of hardware models in Verilog-AMS, a language supported primarily by commercial vendors and a few opensource simulator projects. One thing that would make supporting each others code more helpful would be a LINTER that would check our code for common problems and assist with enforcing a shared code formatting style. I of course want to be able to add my own rules and, after I prove their utility to myself, promote them to the rest of the team.. I don't mind doing the work that has to be done, but of course also want to leverage the work of other existing projects. Does having the allowed language syntax in a yacc or bison format give me a leg up? or should I just suck each language statement into a perl string, and use pattern matching to find the things I don't like? (most syntax and compilation errors are easily caught by the commercial tools.. but we have some of our own extentions.)

• In what areas might the use of F# be more appropriate than C#?

  Over the last few years F# has evolved into one of Microsoft's fully supported languages employing many ideas incubated in OCaml, ML and Haskell. Over the last several years C# has extended it's general purpose features by introducing more and more functional language features: LINQ (list comprehension), Lamdas, Closures, Anonymous Delegates and more... Given C#'s adoption of these functional features and F#'s taxonomy as an impure functional language (it allows YOU to access framework libraries or change shared state when a function is called if you want to) there is a strong similarity between the two languages although each has it's own polar opposite primary emphasis. I'm interested in any successful models employing these two languages in your production polyglot programs and also the areas within production software (web apps, client apps, server apps) you have written in F# in the past year or so that you would previously have written in C#. • In a multithreaded app, would a multi-core or multiprocessor arrangement be better?

  I've read a lot on this topic already both here (e.g., stackoverflow.com/questions/1713554/threads-processes-vs-multithreading-multi-core-multiprocessor-how-they-are or http://stackoverflow.com/questions/680684/multi-cpu-multi-core-and-hyper-thread) and elsewhere (e.g., ixbtlabs.com/articles2/cpu/rmmt-l2-cache.html or software.intel.com/en-us/articles/multi-core-introduction/), but I still am not sure about a couple things that seem very straightforward. So I thought I'd just ask. (1) Is a multi-core processor in which each core has dedicated cache effectively the same as a multiprocessor system (balanced of course for processor speed, cache size, and so on)? (2) Let's say I have some images to analyze (i.e., computer vision), and I have these images loaded into RAM. My app spawns a thread for each image that needs to be analyzed. Will this app on a shared cache multi-core processor run slower than on a dedicated cache multi-core processor, and would the latter run at the same speed as on an equivalent single-core multiprocessor machine? I have selected this library since Twitter is shifting to OAuth mechanism of authentication. 1) Does this new library allows to upload without user-name and password parameters? 2) I am using the following steps for uploading videos (assumed that new library allows to upload without user-name and password parameters). But, I am getting the error 'Incorrect Signature'. I am not able to identify the mistake that I am doing here. Could you please help me out to solve this problem. Authenticate the app using OAuth (MGTwitterEngine etc) which redirects the user to the web-page asking for log-in and app authentication. If the user authenticates the app, access token will obtained as final step.   I have the following foloder tree on my shared hosting server: www.somesite.com | |_ public_html (document folder) |_ .htaccess (Apache file) |_ inde.html (page shown by server now when someone looks for www.somesite.com) | |_ site_editor (folder) | |_login.html (site editor control panel) | |_file1.php | |_file2.php | |_ ... | |_ website (folder) |_ index.html (website HOME PAGE) |_ page1.html |_ page2.html |_ etc. Now when someone looks for www.somesite.com the webserver look for index.html in public_html folder. I would like the web server to show website/index.html when someone looks for www.somesite.com and I would like his browser bar to show only www.somesite.com/index.html and not www.somesite.com/website/index.html I would also like the web server to show site_editor/login.html when someone looks for www.somesite.com/site_editor/ Is it possible to accomplish both task by setting .htaccess files in some ways??? • Reading multiple files with PHPExcel

  Hello there. I just recently started using this library (the one from CodePlex), but I ran into some issues. My goal is to use it so I can process some data from multiple Excel files, and send such data to a database, per file. I'm doing something like: foreach( $file_list as $file ) { $book = PHPExcel_IOFactory::load( $path . $file ); } So, inside the foreach I'm (for now) just showing the data to the user, but after five files, I get a memory error: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 50688 bytes) in /var/www/test/classes/PHPExcel/Shared/OLERead.php on line 76 Is there a way to __destruct the object after each file is loaded, so space is reserved (made free) for the next file, instead of accumulating it, or do you rather know of a reason and work-around for this? Please let me know any suggestions you have. Thanks in advance.

  Hi, Before I start, I know there is another thread about this very issue (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2352874/moving-from-junior-developer-to-mid-level). I am in this very same situation, but of course every person and the company/employment-history is not the same. In my current company, I have not done one piece of coding from start to finish with the oversight of my manager and a Project Manager to manage the work/deadlines etc. I am basically an odd-jobs type of guy. The coding I do is on the side to whatever boring spreadsheet/word document I have to write. Very illogical that you're a coder and you're doing it in secret. In another job I had for 3 months (Was made redundant), it required 1 years experience, perhaps because of the fact I was the sole developer. It wasn't too hard, but then I was solely responsible and I learnt a lot from that. I had 2 other 3 months jobs (contracts), so I have been working for 1 year 9 months. I know found a job which I'm in the last stage for, which needs 3 years .NET experience and 2 years Sharepoint. How can I know if I am ready for this job? My current job has been going on for 1 year, but it doesn't mean squat apart from explaining how I have spent my time. It does not tell me what level I am at (apart from the huge skills gap I have opened up against my peers because I practise at home). So 1 year of doing nothing at work, but 1 year of doing loads at home. In fact, I take 1 week off and do more at home then in the company since I started. How can I know if I am ready for such a job? I am generally very confident given all I've achieved in coding, but I have no idea what a job with this sort of experience entails (what day-to-day-problems I would be facing). Is there any advice on how to handle this transition? Thanks

• Problem with copying local data onto HDFS on a Hadoop cluster using Amazon EC2/ S3.

  Hi, I have setup a Hadoop cluster containing 5 nodes on Amazon EC2. Now, when i login into the Master node and submit the following command bin/hadoop jar <program>.jar <arg1> <arg2> <path/to/input/file/on/S3> It throws the following errors (not at the same time.) The first error is thrown when i don't replace the slashes with '%2F' and the second is thrown when i replace them with '%2F': 1) Java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid hostname in URI S3://<ID>:<SECRETKEY>@<BUCKET>/<path-to-inputfile> 2) org.apache.hadoop.fs.S3.S3Exception: org.jets3t.service.S3ServiceException: S3 PUT failed for '/' XML Error Message: The request signature we calculated does not match the signature you provided. check your key and signing method. Note: 1)when i submitted jps to see what tasks were running on the Master, it just showed 1116 NameNode 1699 Jps 1180 JobTracker leaving DataNode and TaskTracker. 2)My Secret key contains two '/' (forward slashes). And i replace them with '%2F' in the S3 URI. PS: The program runs fine on EC2 when run on a single node. Its only when i launch a cluster, i run into issues related to copying data to/from S3 from/to HDFS. And, what does distcp do? Do i need to distribute the data even after i copy the data from S3 to HDFS?(I thought, HDFS took care of that internally) IF you could direct me to a link that explains running Map/reduce programs on a hadoop cluster using Amazon EC2/S3. • Is there a difference between boost iostream mapped file and boost interprocess mapped file?

  I want to create a mapped binary file into memory; however I am not sure how to create the file to be mapped into the system. I read the documentation several times and realize there are 2 mapped file implementations, one in iostream and the other in interprocess. Do you guys have any idea on how to create a mapped file into shared memory? I am trying to allow a multi-threaded program to read an array of large double written in a binary file format. Also what is the difference between the mapped file in iostream and interprocess?

• WCF Certificates without Certificate Store

  My team is developing a number of WPF plug-ins for a 3rd party thick client application. The WPF plug-ins use WCF to consume web services published by a number of TIBCO services. The thick client application maintains a separate central data store and uses a proprietary API to access the data store. The thick client and WPF plug-ins are due to be deployed onto 10,000 workstations. Our customer wants to keep the certificate used by the thick client in the central data store so that they don't need to worry about re-issuing the certificate (current re-issue cycle takes about 3 months) and also have the opportunity to authorise the use of the certificate. The proposed architecture offers a form of shared secret / authentication between the central data store and the TIBCO services. Whilst I don’t necessarily agree with the proposed architecture our team is not able to change it and must work with what’s been provided. Basically our client wants us to build into our WPF plug-ins a mechanism which retrieves the certificate from the central data store (which will be allowed or denied based on roles in that data store) into memory then use the certificate for creating the SSL connection to the TIBCO services. No use of the local machine's certificate store is allowed and the in memory version is to be discarded at the end of each session. So the question is does anyone know if it is possible to pass an in-memory certificate to a WCF (.NET 3.5) service for SSL transport level encryption? Note: I had asked a similar question (here) but have since deleted it and re-asked it with more information.
