• What are the drawbacks of using PHP to create variables in my CSS stylesheet?

  One significant drawback of CSS is that one can't use variables. For example, I'd like to use variables to control the location of imported CSS, and it would be awesome to create variables for colors that are used repeatedly in a design. One approach is to use a PHP file for the CSS stylesheet. In other words, create a "style.php" with... <?php header("Content-type: text/css"); ?> ...at the top of the file, and then link to it using... <link href="style.php" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> ...in any file that uses these styles. So what's the catch? I think it might be performance -- I did a few quick experiments in Firefox/Firebug and as one would expect, the CSS stylesheet is cached, but the PHP stylesheet isn't. So we're paying the price of an additional GET. The other annoying thing is that TextMate does not syntax highlight properly for CSS in a .php file. Are there other drawbacks? Have you used this approach, and if so, would you recommend it?

• Convert perl one-liner into a script

  I find alot of perl one-liners online. Sometimes I want to convert these one-liners into a script, because otherwise I'll forget the syntax of the one-liner. For example, I'm using the following command (from nagios.com): tail -f /var/log/nagios/nagios.log | perl -pe 's/(\d+)/localtime/e' I'd to replace it with something like this: tail -f /var/log/nagios/nagios.log | ~/bin/nagiostime.pl However, I can't figure out the best way to quickly throw this stuff into a script. Does anyone have a quick way to throw these one-liners into a Bash or Perl script?

  Hi, I was trying to write a simple method boolean validate(MyObject o) { return o.getPropertyA() == null && o.getPropertyB()==null; } And got a strange error on the == null part. Maybe my Java is rusty after a season in PLSQL. Consider this: Integer i = 4; i ==null; //compile error: Syntax error on token ==. Invalid assignment operator. Integer i2 = 4; if (i==null); //No problem How can this be ? Any explanation ? Im using jdk160_05.

I'm just trying to accomplish haveing the .removeClass("under") delayed by a second or two when the mouse un-hovers. I don't want to delay the slideUp. Any ideas?

  Hi, im using linux with gedit which has the wonderful habit of creating a temp file with a tilde at the end for every file I edit. im trying to move all of these files at once to a different folder using the following: find . -iname “*.php~” -exec mv {} /mydir \; However, its now giving me syntax errors, as if it were searching through each file and trying to move the piece of text. I just want to move all of the files ending in .php~ to another directory. Any idea how I do that? Cheers Ke

• How do you keep the text selection on a DataGridView?

  I'm running C# 2.0, and I've written an application with a DataGridView in virtualmode and a TreeView in the same form, but in different panels of a SplitContainer. My application has a "find all" function that finds all instances of a certain string, and adds them as the child nodes to a new node to the TreeView (it's a tree view because you can have multiple search results by having different root nodes). That idea is that when you click on one of those search results in the TreeView, that it would select the specific text of that result in the DataGridView (Virtually the same as Notepad++'s find all function) When I click on the TreeView, it does set the selected cell of the DataGridView and highlight the specific text, but it loses that specific text selection instantly (but keeps the cell selection) because by clicking on the TreeView the DataGridView loses focus. I want to add a condition that if the parameter of @IsPrestigeFeatured = 0 then update all of the other rows < PropertyId in the IsprestigeFeatured column to 0 and if @IsPrestigeFeatured = 1 then IsprestigeFeatured = 1 where propertyId = PropertyId.   Why doesn't this work in IBM Data Studio (Eclipse): IF EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM SYSIBM.SYSVIEWS WHERE NAME = 'MYVIEW' AND CREATOR = 'MYSCHEMA') THEN DROP VIEW MYSCHEMA.MYVIEW; END IF; I have a feeling it has to do with statement terminators (;) but I can't find a syntax that works. Another similar question at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/355687/how-to-check-a-procedure-view-table-exists-or-not-before-dropping-it-in-db2-9-1 suggests that they had to create a proc but this isn't a solution for us.

  Well i need some help here i don't know how to solve this problem. the function of the attribute is to determine if the function can be run... So what i need is the following: The consumer of the attribute should be able to determine if it can be executed. The owner of the attribute should be able to tell the consumer that now it can/can't be executed (like a event). It must have a simple syntax. • Latex: reset font style

  Is there a way I can reset the style of a certain character sequence? I'm using the listings package to display source code and the prebreak property to display a escape character \ to indicate that the current lines was broken. The problem is that sometimes the backslash is colored because of the syntax highlighting used. • Iterate through a DataTable to find elements in a List object?

  As I iterate through a DataTable object, I need to check each of its DataRow objects against the items in a generic string List. I found a blog post using the List's Find method along with a delegate, but whereas that example has a separate class (Person), I'm attempting something like the following using an instance of the string object: // My definition of the List object. List<string> lstAccountNumbers = new List<string>(); ... // I populate the List via its Add method. ... foreach (DataRow drCurrentRow in dtMyDataTable.Rows) { if (lstAccounts.Find(delegate(string sAccountNumber) { return sAccountNumber == drCurrentRow["AccountNumber"]; }) { Found_DoSomething(); } else { NotFound_DoSomethingElse(); } } However, with this syntax I'm receiving "Cannot implicitly convert type 'string' to 'bool'" for the if block. I am trying the following code: 0 use strict; 10 my @frame_events = (((1) x 10), ((1) x 10)); 20 print "$frame_events[1][1]\n"; but it gives the following error: Can't use string ("1") as an ARRAY ref while "strict refs" in use at ./dyn_pf.pl line 20. This syntax only seems to initialize a 1d array as print "$frame_events[1]\n" works. Though perl doesn't give any error during the assignment.

• Pipe less to emacs

  When viewing piped output to Less, sometimes I'd like to be able to view it in Emacs in order to get syntax highlighting and use emacs commands for searching, marking, copying, etc. I see that Less has a v command that can be used to open the currently viewed file in $EDITOR. Unfortunately this doesn't work when viewing piped input. Also, I don't know how to get Emacs to display stdin as a read-only document. So, is it possible to set up Less with something like v but that pumps the current buffer into Emacs as a read-only file? Thanks.

• What should a PHP generate to give back to a jQuery AJAX request?

  Perhaps it's a syntax error, but I never assume that. • Umbraco template issues

  Hi fellow Umbraco users, I'm currently building my first umbraco website and since I'm completely new to umbraco I've already ran into a problem which I'm sure is pretty straight-forward to do. That said, I'm by no means a beginner when it comes to building sites that run on a (open source) CMS as I've been using Joomla! since it was called Mambo. Anyway, the site I'm building is here: my site What I want to do is to have some content in the white box that changes when you mouseover/hover one of the menu items. Also that content has to stay "active" when you've clicked on a link (i.e. if you click on "Profile" I need to highlight the Profile menu item with the gray color and the white boxs content needs to be what would be related to the Profile menu item. How do I go about this? What would be the best practice when it comes to showing multiple content on a site? I've watched the video about multiple Content Place Holders, but I never really got it to work. I can't get a page to display in the NavigationPlaceHolder (the placeholder I put in the white box), but thats because the actual page is Frontpage.aspx and not WhateverIsInThenavigationPlaceHolder.aspx. If I go to the mysite.dk/WhateverIsInTheNavigationPlaceHolder.aspx it shows up fine. What have I missed here? :) Thanks in advance! • Binding event handlers to specific elements, using bubbling (JavaScript/jQuery)

  I'm working on a project that approximates the functionality of Firebug's inspector tool. That is, when mousing over elements on the page, I'd like to highlight them (by changing their background color), and when they're clicked, I'd like to execute a function that builds a CSS selector that can be used to identify them. However, I've been running into problems related to event bubbling, and have thoroughly confused myself. Rather than walk you down that path, it might make sense just to explain what I'm trying to do and ask for some help getting started. Here are some specs: I'm only interested in elements that contain a text node (or any descendant elements with text nodes). When the mouse enters such an element, change its background color. When the mouse leaves that element, change its background color back to what it was originally. When an element is clicked, execute a function that builds a CSS selector for that element. I don't want a mouseover on an element's margin area to count as a mouseover for that element, but for the element beneath (I think that's default browser behavior anyway?). I can handle the code that highlights/unhighlights, and builds the CSS selector. What I'm primarily having trouble with is efficiently binding event handlers to the elements that I want to be highlightable/clickable, and avoiding/stopping bubbling so that mousing over a (<p>) element doesn't also execute the handler function on the <body>, for example. I think the right way to do this is to bind event handlers to the document element, then somehow use bubbling to only execute the bound function on the topmost element, but I don't have any idea what that code looks like, and that's really where I could use help. I'm using jQuery, and would like to rely on that as much as possible. Thanks in advance for any guidance!

• JavaScript: window.opener.location.href question

  I need to make a little JS app to scroll automatically through a list of URLs. I've chosen to have the functionality in a pop-up, for various reasons. The syntax to change the opening window's URL is: window.opener.location.href = "http://www.example.com"; This works fine with one URL, but if two statements are called, only one is executed. I experimented with an alert statement between two of the above statements, and the alert event made the second statement function properly: window.opener.location.href = "http://www.example1.com"; alert("hello world"); window.opener.location.href = "http://www.example2.com"; Question is: does anyone know how to get the first and second window.opener statements to work, without the intervening alert();? Also, how can I add a pause between the two statements, so that the second executes a couple of seconds after the first? Thanks so much!

  Anyone know of a wiki or wiki plugin that generates a PDF file or CHM file that spans the entire wiki? I would like to have control of the table of contents. I would like the internal and external links to work. Ideally allow for tweaking the output template, but that is not a deal-breaker. I want to generate content using WIKI syntax and mindset (lots of cross-links etc), but ship the content in PDF, CHM or an embedded application form. Something friendlier than installing the wiki software on the enduser machine...

• GDB question - how do I go through disassembled code line by line?

  I'd like to go through a binary file my teacher gave me line by line to check addresses on the stack and the contents of different registers, but I'm not extremely familiar with using gdb. Although I have the C code, we're supposed to work entirely from a binary file. Here are the commands I've used so far: (gdb) file SomeCode Which gives me this message: Reading symbols from ../overflow/SomeCode ...(no debugging symbols found)...done. Then I use : (gdb) disas main which gives me all of the assembly. I wanted to set up a break point and use the "next" command, but none of the commands I tried work. Does anyone know the syntax I would use?
