• Wamp server that works over a network

  I have 2 computers. Both with w7 as os. I have installed wampserver on one of them. I have mysql database on wampserver. Then I have made a vb.net program to connect to mysql database. I have put the program on both computers. What I want to do is for those two programs to see the same database that is on one computer. For them to be able to add, delete, update that 1 database. How do I do that? How do I network the mysql database? Do I also have to install wampserver on the other computer? What do I do? Please enlighten me.

  Hi, I have following partitions on a 1 TB disk. 14 GB UNKNOWN recovery partition 100MB NTFS System Reserved partition for Windows 7 448GB NTFS Windows 7 system partition 468GB NTFS Data partition for windows 7 Now because of the problems mentioned in my other question here I got a brand new windows 7 cd and want to install it from scratch after deleting all the extra partitions. But windows 7 installation doesn't give me such options. It refuses to touch the 14GB Recovery and 100 MB (reserved by previous windows 7) partition. Any ideas ? Note: Because of it is a dynamic disks most of the freely available tools refuse to delete the partitions on the disk. regards.

• Creating hard drive backup images efficiently

  We are in the process of pruning our directories to recuperate some disk space. The 'algorithm' for the pruning/backup process consists of a list of directories and, for each one of them, a set of rules, e.g. 'compress *.bin', 'move *.blah', 'delete *.crap', 'leave *.important'; these rules change from directory to directory but are well known. The compressed and moved files are stored in a temporary file system, burned onto a blue ray, tested within the blue ray, and, finally, deleted from their original locations. I am doing this in Python (basically a walk statement with a dictionary with the rules for each extension in each folder). Do you recommend a better methodology for pruning file systems? How do you do it? We run on Linux.

• Windows 2008 R2: can't extend C drive, mystery partitions

  I have a Windows 2008 R2 server running under VMware ESX 4.0.0. I have reallocated disk space to it in order to extend the C drive, but Disk Management has "Extend Volume" greyed out. DISKPART shows more partitions than Disk Management shows, including one after the volume I'm trying to extend, which would explain why Disk Management isn't allowing the extension. Disk Management shows: System Reserved / 100MB NTFS / Healthy (System) (C:) / 39.39 GB NTFS / Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump) 10.00 GB / Unallocated DISKPART shows: Partition 1 Dynamic Data 992 KB 31 KB Partition 2 Dynamic Data 100 MB 1024 KB Partition 3 Dynamic Data 39 GB 101 MB Partition 4 Dynamic Data 1024 KB 39 GB My question at this point is: what the heck are partitions 1 and 4, where did they come from, why doesn't Disk Management show them, and, most importantly, can I delete partition 4 in order to extend partition 3?

  I use a tool to render LaTeX equations as PNG. The resulting images are in RGBA8888 format. I would like to extract the luminance (grayscale from RGB channels, multiplied by the A channel) as my new alpha channel, set the picture fully black, and save the result in Gray1Alpha8 (G1A8) format. So far I've only managed to get G1A4 or G8A8 but not G1A8. Also, the resulting picture looks like it's not multiplied correctly… convert original.png \ \( -clone 0 -alpha extract \) \ \( -clone 0 -clone 1 -compose multiply -composite \) \ -delete 0 +swap -alpha off -compose copy_opacity -composite -colorspace Gray -depth 4 result.png What am I missing?

• Specify Credentials to run Powershell Script to Query AD

  I want to run a powershell script to query AD from a machine that is NOT on the domain. Basically I want to query to see if there is computer account already on the domain for this machine and create it if there is not. Because this has to happen before the machine joins the domain I assume I will need to specify some credentials to enable it to run. (I'm pretty new to Powershell, so apologies if this is a newbie question!) The script I am using to check the account is below, and then once this has run it will join the domain using the computername specified. Can you tell me how to specify some domain credentials to run this section of the script as? • load langs.xml failed also after fix.

  I have the same error as stated on: http://superuser.com/questions/67128/notepad-load-langs-xml-failed. I have also applied the fix listed there. I delete the langs.xml file. Then when I reboot notepad++.exe a new langs.xml is created from the langs.model.xml file. However, after I reboot my computer the langs.xml file is corrupted again. It is completely empty. Does anyone know what is causing the deletion of the langs.xml file? I noticed the problem shortly after using windows 7 64 bit, and on two seperate computers.

  I have a humble linux server to do some stuff for me. I only have an old 16gig drive in it. df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/md1 16G 16G 0 100% / /dev/md0 121M 14M 101M 13% /boot tmpfs 502M 0 502M 0% /dev/shm but when I do: du -sh / 3.5G / So one says that my 16G drive is full. The other says only 3.5G is used. Why the discrepancy? I cannot write any new files as it says the drive is indeed full. But if I can't find the files taking up all the space on the file-system, how can I delete them to free up space?

• Deal Slider malware removed, Windows Script Host Error message persisting

  I somehow got "Deal Slider" which was detected by Malwarebytes, so I let the program delete it. Now, every time I start my computer, I get the message from Windows Script Host that says: Can not find script file "C:\Users\Jason\Appdata\Local\Deal Slider\repair.js". Beep boop beep. This is a very odd message, because I can't find any trace of Deal Slider on my system now, and the \Deal Slider\ directory doesn't even exist anymore. I have already tried disabling WSH, but then I get a message that WSH is disabled. I also tried changing the file association of .js and .jse to Notepad. How can I make this error stop happening?

  I've got OpenVPN client running on 192.168.0.3. What I'd like to do is route all the traffic from the second computer with 192.168.0.100 via OpenVPN client that's running on the first computer. My router ip is 192.168.0.1 Network topology: Computer with OpenVPN client: 192.168.0.3 Computer that has to be rerouted: 192.168.0.100 Router: 192.168.0.1 I want it to work in the following way: 192.168.0.100 computer => 192.168.0.3 computer => OpenVPN => 192.168.0.1 How can I achieve that by only modifying windows' routing table? • MySQL replication ignore data changes but not table structure changes

  Is there a way to setup MySQL replication so that CREATE TABLE and ALTER TABLE statements get replicated but INSERT, DELETE and UPDATE statements do not? I've got replication working fine and have several tables that are ignored as per the requirements. But we have a requirement that the slaves have an empty copy of the ignored table. We create those empty copies before we start replicating. Since the table is ignored, table structure changes don't get passed down from the master to the slave's empty copy. I know it's a strange requirement.

• Strange port forwarding problem

The port forwarding to my internal webserver (10.0.0.10 on Port 80) works without a problem but the port forwarding to a windows server (10.0.0.15) on port 3389 doesn't work. The port 3389 is open. • How to stop receiving an error reading iCal invitations on Mac sent from Thunderbird?

  When I open an iCal invitation (Mail Attachment.ics file) in Mac Mail.app sent to me from someone using Thunderbird, I receive the following error: The only solution that I've found to date is to save the Mail Attachment.ics file somewhere like the Desktop, open it in a text editor, and delete the blank lines at the beginning and end of the file. This problem appears to only happen when I'm receiving invitations from people using Thunderbird under Windows. Does anyone know of a better way to solve this problem? Is this a bug in Apple iCal, or is Thunderbird not meeting the iCal spec? • My profile won't load!

  I can get into my Windows Server 2008 R2 primary domain controller via remote desktop just fine. It's my boss who's got his profile messed up. When he tries to log in, he gets the message The User Profile service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded. I've looked for his profile everywhere and cannot find it to delete or fix it. System Properties Advanced User Profiles shows my profile, the Administrator profile and the Default Profile. HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList only shows my profile and the Administrator profile. Everything that I've found on the internets points me to those locations. Help a brotha out?

• Mac OSX Server 10.6 DNS Issues

  The server was upgraded from 10.5 from 10.6, during the upgrade the Reverse Zones were lost so I tried to recreate these but found that it's best to delete all zones, definitions and start again. So I've started again and Reverse Zones are appearing but I'm still having issues. • What to do with a Blowfish Key?

  I just completed backing up 8 years of my Gmail using http://gmvault.org I selected the --encrypt option which uses Blowfish encryption. According to their site: Emails can be encrypted with the option -e --encrypt. With that option, the Blowfish encryption is used to crypt your emails and chats and the first time you activate it, a secret key is randomly generated and stored in $HOME/.gmvault/token.sec. Keep great care of the secret key as if you loose or delete it your stored emails won't be readable anymore !!! I'm using OSX Lion. I'm a software engineer but far from an encryption expert. What should I do with this key? It seems like leaving it where it is now (alongside the emails) sort of misses the point of encrypting them to begin with.

• Cannot select fields with the mouse Windows 7

  Lately I cannot select a word (field) with the mouse. When I left click on a field drag the mouse to the end of the field then release the button, the selection (blue shading) disappears. Sometimes after several tries the shading stays and I can delete the field. Up to a week ago everything worked fine. Is this a bug, virus? I am using Windows 7 Also, in Live Mail after I finished reading an item in the Inbox, I click the X in the upper right corner to return to the rest of my mail, but instead it takes me back to the desktop and have to double click the Live Mail again to continue. Again this only happened recently. Things worked OK before and this does not happen regularly.

• Migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 - remove old 03 computer account?

  Migrated from Exchange 2003 to 2007 back in February of this year. I've still got the old exchange computer account in AD. Can I simply delete the computer account or will bad things start happening? I've looked in the Exchange 07 console and don't see the old server listed at all. HOWEVER: we do still have an old CNAME for this old Exchange server pointing to the new one for a few old clients that still have their mail server set to the old name...if that matters at all. I ran "get-exchangeserver" on the new server and the old one isn't listed at all.

• What is the keyboard shortcut to clear formatting on Office 2008 Mac?

  I recently switched from a PC to a brand new Macbook Pro. I was happy to see that most of the keyboard shortcuts in Word 2008 where the same or almost the same than in Word 2007. However, there is one keyboard shortcut that I dearly miss : the clear formatting shortcut (ctrl + space on Windows). I know the feature exists since it's in the formatting bar, but I can't find the keyboard shorcut. I tried cmd + space but that is the system keyboard shortcut to switch the keyboard type. alt + space delete the text without deleting the formatting. ctrl + space doesn't seem to do anything. Does anyone know what the keyboard shortcut for the clear formatting command may be? I hope there's one because it's really painful to reach for the mouse everytime I put a title and I want to switch to a normal paragraph style...

• Very large log files in IIS 7.x

  Hello, I had a site stop working today and when I RDP'd into the server I saw a warning about low disk space. The first thing I checked was the inetpub folder where the log files are stored and sure enough it was huge, 40 GB huge. I do clean the files monthly but what is causing a day's worth of logging on a medium activity site (www.vbdotnetforums.com) to create 300-500 MB log files? I do have everything being logged so my SmarterStats software gives me the most info, but are there specific things I should/can turn off that is causing the most growth in these log files? Also, sure would be nice if Microsoft someday had some sort of log file management such as deleting log files after they exceed a certain size (total), X days, etc. We all have to come up with some solution to delete the old ones manually.   hej, i downloaded xampp-linux-1.7.3a.tar.gz and installed it manually, not with aptitude. That was a mistake as proved later, due to some configurational issues i decided to remove it and install it via aptitude install apache2. Now the previous lampp conflicts with the new apache2, i get this error message. Starting web server apache2 apache2: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.1.1 for ServerName (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80 no listening sockets available, shutting down how can delete the existing lampp files entirely or how can i configure apache2 to work as intended ? any help will be appreciated

• How to install software packages on a shared Red Hat Linux host account without root access or rpm?

  I have a shared RHEL 4 host account where I do not have root privileges. I would like to install Git and Bash Complete in a way that they can be upgraded easily. To date, I've just been installing from source providing $HOME as a prefix to autoconf. Obviously this isn't ideal as I need to hunt down the files associated with the version I'm upgrading away from and delete them. I've tried using rpm but I just get -bash: rpm: command not found back so it's not available. I also looked into checkinstall but it looks like that requires rpm, dpkg, or Slackware's package manager to be available. Is there anything out there that can be used like a package manager without requiring root access or an existing package manager?
