• VirtualBox reinstalling & updating has left me with Too Many Network Adapters. How Do i remove them?

  I have too many network adapters. I have had to reinstall, repair VirtualBox a few times, and I have three NICs in my laptop. I definitely don't need to have 14 bridged networking drivers though, and I cannot uninstall them. I only want to keep the new ones that came with VirtualBox 4.1.20. When I go into the registry there are tons of places with these adapters. I have searched online up to 10 pages of Google, and VirtualBox forums, and no one has mentioned this problem nor explained how to delete these annoying extra network adapters. Please offer some assistance or at least tell me how anybody else has dealt with this. I only need 1 host-only network adapter, 1 bridged networking adapter for each of my network cards.   On MySQL 5.1 for Windows, why can't I assign DBA role to "root" user? The MySQL Workbench allows me to add all the other roles except for DBA. Also, when I "alter schema" on any table, while logged in as root, I dont see all the tabs that show me all the database properties... I only see the first tab that allows me to change collation only. What is wrong with this picture? How do i give root all priveleges? I've tried a few variations of GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES etc. from the command line but nothing works. My root account is unable to alter column names, indexes, or options of any given table that I create. I can create tables and delete them but I can't alter them.

  Before recognizing a pdf, OCR software do document layout analysis to determine which parts are texts, tables or images, as shown in the picture below. ![papercrop]http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/17/2011/07/papercrop.jpg I want to use some parts of the text while leaving out the others. So having a software marking those zones comes in handy. Papercrop does a decent job, but it has a bug of now showing some of the text in the pdf file. And OCR software can also do layout analysis, marking out "zones" which I can add or delete. But you have to OCR to do that. Since my pdfs are already text based, I don't want to waste so much time OCRing. So my question is, is there any software that automatically mark out those zones and let me manually manipulate them, without having to OCR? Thanks! Waiting for your help.

  I have found some information on this but have not found the exact answers to these questions. Background I have installed backup exec 2012 (with agents for databases) I have configured a storage pool, with 2 USB drives (1TB) The backups are configured to backup to one of the 2 drives (depending on which one is connected) I have 2 questions: How do I get Backup Exec to tell me which disk to insert? I have used tapes before and it told me then which tape to use? I was hoping this was available for disks too. (Whilst there are only 2 at the moment, there will be more). And then how do I get Backup Exec to delete old backups when the disk if full.

• Exchange 2010, multiple accepted domains, UCC and outside webhosts

  We have an Exchange 2010 server configured to send and receive mail on several accepted domains for Outlook Anywhere, with a UCC cert addressing each mail.domain.com and autodiscover.domain.com, mail.otherplace.com etc. This worked fine until an SSL domain validation cert for one of the additional domains - where the www.otherplace.com is hosted outside our org - expired. Now Exchange users in mail.otherplace.com get an expired cert warning for otherplace.com when connecting to our mail.domain.com portal. They still get mail, but with a repeated popup in Outlook 2007 and 2010. If I understand it correctly - Outlook autodiscover connects by first polling otherplace.com/autodiscover - which is the outside www server with the expired cert before continuing on to autodiscover.otherplace.com - which is where the MX record points to our in-house Exchange UCC. I'm trying to find out if we should: 1) turn down all mail functions on the outside webserver 2) delete the expired (useless for an informational site) cert on the outside webserver 3) renew the cert for otherplace.com on the outside webserver - or something completely different? • Handling Junk Email with Apple Mail.app and Gmail

  I've just setup my Apple Mail client to work with Google Apps through IMAP. One lingering question is how to best handle SPAM (Junk Mail), however. In their Help section, Google recommends that we disable junk filtering on the client. http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78892 This leads me to wonder what we should do when a junk message makes it past Google's filter? Do I just delete the message? If I do, the Google spam filter will never improve and "learn" that the message was junk. Do I have to log in to the web interface at Google to mark the message as spam? That seems a bit arduous for every spam email I get. What's the best way to handle this? Thanks!

• Failover tmpfs mirroring. Am I doing it right?

  My goal is to have a certain directory to be available as tmpfs. There will be some modifications during server uptime in this dir and those modifications must be synced to non-tmpfs persistent dir on HDD over rsync. After server boot the latest version from non-tmpfs persistent dir must be moved to tmpfs and rsync syncing to be started. I'm afraid that rsync will erase non-tmpfs backup if tmpfs dir will be empty.. I'm doing it in this way right now: create tmpfs partition in /etc/fstab cat /etc/rc.local (pseudocode) delete "tmpfs rsync" cronjob from /var/spool/cron/crontabs if there is any cp -r /path/to/non-tmpfs-backup /path/to/tmpfs/dir append /var/spool/cron/crontabs with "tmpfs rsync" cronjob What do you think?

• Change YYYY-MM-DD to YYYYMMDD everywhere in file

  I can't just delete all of the hyphens, because elsewhere they are used as minus signs. I can find these dates with [0-9]\{4\}-[0-9]\{2\}-[0-9]\{2\} but I can't figure out how to keep those three different digit wildcards in memory. My attempts end up replacing the dates with the search string (e.g., :%s/[0-9]\{4\}-[0-9]\{2\}-[0-9]\{2\}/[0-9]\{4\}[0-9]\{2\}[0-9]\{2\}/g). Any ideas? If there's a command line solution, I'd love to learn that, too. Thanks!

• IIS 7.5 default permission - is restriction needed?

  I am using IIS 7.5 and I do not need to explicitly specify permissions for my ISAPI application to execute. Additionally, the application can create subdirectories, create and delete files without me specifying permissions. Since I am using the default permissions, checked to see if web.config was safe from prying eyes over the web, and it can’t be read which is good. My app also creates some .log and .ini files which are also not viewable over the web. I did notice that .txt files are viewable. I really don’t know how default permissions allow my app to do so much. Is this safe or do I need to lock down? To be honest, I don’t know what accounts to restrict. App details: My ISAPI has an ‘allowed’ entry in ISAPI and CGI Restrictions Folder and subfolders containing my application has ‘default’ permissions set. Application pool is using ‘classic’ pipeline mode and no managed code. Pass-through authentication in use. Thank you for your time

• How do I increase my home's bandwidth?

  I just mistakingly posted this on Stack Exchange but don't know how to delete it... Anyway, I was thinking of building a home server to use instead of renting a VPS, because in the long run it would be cheaper. What I'm concerned with is the bandwidth limit of my house. I know when I'm downloading something off the internet, if I download at high speeds the rest of the computers connected to my router will become slower. Is there any way to avoid this? There are other cable outlets in my house, will connecting a modem and router there avoid this problem?

  I've been backing up my Vista box using Complete PC backup for quite a while now, and I was just wondering how it is that you remove old backups when your backup drive is to full for another backup. I recently received the following error: The backup did not complete successfully. An error occurred. The following information might help you resolve the error: There is not enough space to save the backup files. Free up disk space or change your backup settings. (0x81000005) I don't see anything in the settings for the backup to change this. Do I have to mount the backup to delete an old backup? If so where is that file located?

• Two NIC cards with the same metric - Internet traffic going out the wrong one

  I have two NIC cards in my computer - one is connected to our corporate network and the Internet, the other is connected to a private LAN through a Linksys WRT54G. Both cards use DHCP. This was never an issue with Windows XP, but with Windows Vista (and Windows 7) the metric for the 0.0.0.0 route is the same (20), and it appears that some network traffic that should go out my main network card are going out my secondary card instead. The solution to date is to delete the 0.0.0.0 route associated with the second NIC card, but I have to do this several times a day. Is there a better solution? --Bruce

• How to skip words in OS X terminal?

  Say I wrote a long command in the Mac OSX terminal, i.e say "Hello, how are you? I am good thank you. How is it going with you? Fine, thanks" and now I decided I want to change the word Hello to Hi. To do that, right now I have to keep pressing (or hold down) the left keyboard key until the "cursor" gets to the end of the word Hello, and then delete it. The usual 'holding down option' technique doesn't work as it does in most other OS X applications. Is there a way to skip a word at a time instead (or any other shorter way of getting the cursor there)? Thanks!

• Prevent Outlook from automatically deleting meeting emails

  I'm using Outlook Web Access to read my email. When I receive a meeting notice and acknowledge it, Outlook adds it to my calendar then deletes the email. Is there a way to disable Outlook automatically deleting the meeting email? There doesn't seem to be any way to configure this in Options - Messaging and Options - Calendar. Note that I'm using Outlook Web Access and not the desktop client. From the copyright date this appears to be Outlook 2007. Follow-up: Based on edusysadmin's comment I logged-in using IE8, which exposed a setting not available in Firefox - "Move out-of-date meeting requests and responses to the Deleted Items folder". However unchecking this box doesn't seem to impact the auto-delete behavior. Follow-up 2: Keep in mind I am using Outlook Web Access via a web browser. I do not have the thick client Outlook installed.

  I am using Outlook 2011 with gmail. I moved to Outlook 2011 recently. Before that I was using web mail. When I moved to Outlook recently, I got all my labels with the emails. But now when I go the web mail and create a label, it does not come up as a folder in Outlook 2011. Similarly if i delete a label from Gmail, it does not come up in Outlook 2011. • Making a tab key on the right side of a full sized mac keyboard

  I use mac OSX with a full sized keyboard (F1-F19, number pad arrow keys and FN, Home, End, Page UP/Down delete mini pad above the arrow keys). My mouse is on the left side of the keyboard. This allows use of the return key, the arrow keys and the number pad etc. with my right hand. I would like to assign a key or key combination on the right side of the keyboard to operate the same as the tab key. I am thinking a Function key or the Home key, or FN+?? I have QuickKeys and could use that if someone knows how. If there is no way to make a key the equivalent of the tab key, then at the least I would like to make some equivalent to Cmd+Tab that I can use with my right hand. Thanks for any help and ideas.

  I have MacOsX 10.8.2 installed on my MacBook Pro and Windows 8 licenced on a BootCamp partition. I have messed up my MacOsx partition (problems while programming, .h files not found, old applications removed that still appears) and I wanna start back from a clean OS. Is there a Way to reset my partition (or reinstall, obviously) keeping my BootCamp partition safe ? I know I could use my recovery partition but I do not know if it won't delete my Windows and it no longer appears in disk utility. As I found no answers in the Internet, does someone how how to do that ? Thanks in advance.

• How to disable Microsoft eHome MCIR Keyboard and company?

  Hi! I'm and unlucky owner of and Acer 7720G laptop which, like many in its category, has receiver for a proprietary infra red remote control device (which I did not receive with my laptop!) . Now my problem is that the receiver is detected as Microsoft eHome MCIR Keyboard, Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard and Microsoft eHome Remote Control Keyboard keys. My problem is that this driver has incompatibilities with some programs I use like for example DosBox. When these devices are installed, they cause DosBox to incorrectly detect some keyboard buttons. The workaround is to remove or disable the 3 hardware devices. Unfortunately, I the disable option is grayed out and when I delete them, they are reinstalled on next restart. Is there any way to hack windows in order to prevent their installation? I was thinking about locating the drivers these devices use, but they are buried somewhere in windows installation and I don't have enough experience to find them, so I'm asking you for help.

• Can't move or access WSS Central Administration site

  We have several WSS Servers: WSS1 WSS2 WSS3 WSS4 SharePoint thinks that Central Administration is on WSS3 and that it can be access via SSL on port 22641. The problem is that central administration is not there. It was removed using the config wizard. We removed central admin from all servers to clean everything out, and we tried installing Central Admin on WSS1. The alternate access mappings still point to central admin on WSS3. We tried deleting the alternate access mappings, but SharePoint won't let you delete central admin's mapping. Later, we removed central admin from all of our servers and tried creating the Central Admin website on WSS3, where SharePoint already thinks it is. But for some reason SharePoint is creating the alternate access mappings using SSL, and we don't have a certificate for the server. Why is SharePoint creating alternate access mappings routing an https internal URL by default? How can we move central administration to a new server? We are using WSS 3.0.

• Setting alias for DynDNS domain

  Hey all, I've created DynDNS domain for testing my local sites, and i'm having trouble with pointing to root domain. From my registrar (GoDaddy) I've created a CNAME for www to point my example.dyndns.com so going to url www.example.com I'm reaching my site. But if I'm going to example.com I'm reaching to the IP of the A record. I can't set the IP for the A record to be my IP because I have dynamic IP, and it changes constatly, and I can't point the A record to domain, only IP. When trying to create CNAME record @ to point example.dyndns.com I'm getting error "A record of a different type exists for the hostname @, could not create CNAME" The only record using the '@' host are NS record, which I can't delete, and when tried to set another NS record with @ point to example.dyndns.com, I've lost connection to my site :) So what can I do to get example.com url reach my site? • Temporarily disable an AD server

  Topology and setup We have main office A, and branch office (abroad) B. Our ISP somehow messed up the MPLS, and office A<B will not be connected until a few days. At location B, we have an AD (and the other two ADs at location A). Location A also have an exchange server. The problems A few users at A have problem to login to their computers running Windows XP, the logon process kind of hangs where "Applying computer policies". Additionally, I can't start the Exchange management shell, it fails on get-recipient because the AD abroad (location B) is unreachable. Solution? I could delete the AD at B, but Im pretty sure it will be a hazzle to re-join it, and since the office is abroad it's not an option to just go there and re-install it - re join, I now wonder how I in location As primary and secondary ADs can temporarily disable AD at location B.

• Can't type into some text fields in any browser on Windows 7

  I can't type into e.g. facebook's log in form with my computer. I hit my keys, but nothing happens. Special characters like c, c, š, etc. work. Backspace doesn't, delete does. This goes for Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome. This also happens with some other sites, sometimes even with gmail (or any google's log in form). I read somewhere that the solution is to reregister some dlls: regsvr32 mshtmled.dll regsvr32 jscript.dll regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll The first two work, the third one says The module "mshtml.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer.dll was not found. And of course, running just the first two didn't help. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

• Changing the cell range of conditional formatting in LibreOffice Calc

  Is there any way of changing the range of conditional formatting in LibreOffice Calc (version 3.6)? I have a set applied already to a range of cells, but there is no obvious way of changing which cells a given set of conditional formatting is applied to. I either have to copy and paste the formatting, which results in multiple entries in the conditional formatting (which makes it difficult to manage), or delete the entire thing and create a new one every single time I want to change the range of cells.   I understand that in my vimrc I can add autocmd, and I can group them into augroup. Once they are grouped, what can I do with the group? Specifically, is there a way to disable the whole group at once? Looking at the help, I only see two options: augroup! will delete the whole group: I don't think this is right since I will want to re-enable it again. Searching for "aucmd" and "disable" brings up eventignore, but this looks like it's for specific events like CursorMoved, BufWinLeave, etc. and not the command or the group itself. How is this done?

• File system loop detected in /var/named/chroot/var/named/

  The problem start with a message No space left on device. After investigating a little (with google's help) I found : find: File system loop detected; /var/named/chroot/var/named' is part of the same file system loop as/var/named'. What I don't know is what to do next. I found this on centos.org : and see if the inode numbers are the same (they shouldn't be).
