    Hi, Was wondering, how do I add a custom marker to google maps, JavaScript, integrated into my site. This code adds a regular marker: var marker = new GMarker(center); map.addOverlay(marker); but where do I insert an image tag (say, "marker.png" ) for it to appear instead of the regular google marker?     I am trying to map an entity in NHibernate, that should have an Updated column. This should be the DateTime when the entity was last written to the database (either created or updated). I'd like NHibernate to control the update of the column, so I don't need to remember to set a property to the current time before updating. Is there a built-in feature in NHibernate, that can handle this for me ?

We tend to start with designing code to solve the problem presented to us, but that is probably all of us are (or were) programmers. I was wondering where other people and organisations start their design. Do they start with solving the problem as a coding problem, sit down and design what UI to use, or map out the data or workflow? Thanks

  • Using Hadoop, are my reducers guaranteed to get all the records with the same key?

    I'm running a hadoop job (using hive actually) which is supposed to uniq lines in a lot of text file. More specifically it chooses the most recently timestamped record for each key in the reduce step. Does hadoop guarantee that every record with the same key, output by the map step, will go to a single reducer, even if there are many reducers running across a cluster? I'm worried that the mapper output might be split after the shuffle happens, in the middle of a set of records with the same key.

  • MVC Partial View Not Refreshing when using JSON data

    I have a dropdown that I'm using to refresh a div with checkboxes. I am trying to figure out why my view is not refreshing if I pass in data in JSON format. If I pass in just a regular string, the view refreshes. If I pass in JSON data, the view does not refresh. If I step through the code in the Partial view, I can see the correct number of records are being passed in, however the view doesn't get refreshed with the correct number of checkboxes. I tried to add some cache directives, it didn't work.     This is my grid of nodes: I'm moving an object around on it using the A* pathfinding algorithm. It generally works OK, but it sometimes acts wrongly: When moving from 3 to 1, it correctly goes via 2. When going from 1 to 3 however, it goes via 4. When moving between 3 and 5, it goes via 4 in either direction instead of the shorter way via 6 What can be wrong?   • Production deployment to EC2 with minimal downtime

    I have a simple web application deployed on a large instance with EC2. I now want to deploy the latest code to this server but I want to do this in a way which minimizes downtime and is a smooth as possible for the end user. Here is my plan: Fire up another large instance Install all the software layers on that instance Restore and attach an EBS drive to the instance Deploy our latest production ready code on the new instance Run all tests (including manual testing of the application) (If tests pass) Put a "Site Under Maintenance" notice on the live site. Backup the EBS instance on the live site Detach the EBS instance from the new server and replace with the latest backup Use ec2-associate-address to move the IP address to the new instance Sit back and wait for traffic to start flowing though the new instance Terminate the old instance Does this seem like a good strategy? Are there any tutorials or books that might cover this topic? I have already read Cloud Application Architectures by George Reese, which is an excellent book, but does not cover deployment. Additionally, I know that there are tools that can help with this like RightScale or enStratus which I will use when I start using more than one instance.

    I have a enumerator which map to a bunch of int example enum MyEnum { Open = 1, Closed = 2, Exit = 4 } I find though that when I want to assign this to an integer, I have to cast it first. int myEnumNumber = **(int)** MyEnum.Open; Is it possible to specify the type of an enum so that it is implicit that there is a integer assigned to any value within the enum? That way, I do not need to keep casting it to an int if I want to use it thanks
