  • Do properties need to be deallocated?

    - by Sheehan Alam
    I subclassed NSObject: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> @interface STObject : NSObject { NSString *message_type; NSString *twitter_in_reply_to_screen_name; } @property(nonatomic, copy) NSString *message_type; @property(nonatomic, copy) NSString *twitter_in_reply_to_screen_name; @end My implementation looks like: #import "STObject.h" @implementation STObject @synthesize message_type, twitter_in_reply_to_screen_name; @end Do I need to create a dealloc method for my two properties where I release the strings?

  • EGODatabase does not retain inserted record

    - by user135775
Hi Guy! I'm using EGODatabase to process my data. When I tried to insert data into the database which I created with Base and attached to the project, the data that was inserted programmatically will not show up when I restart my app. However the data inserted manually using Base will show up just fine. Following is the code for inserting data into the database: NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"Database" ofType:@"db"]; db = [EGODatabase databaseWithPath:path]; if ([db open]) { NSLog(@"Database is opened successfully!"); } else { NSLog(@"Database is failed to open!"); } NSArray *params = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:[aFeed feedID], [aFeed title], nil]; [db executeUpdate:@"Insert INTO Feed (FeedID, Title) VALUES (?, ?)" parameters:params]; EGODatabaseResult *results = [db executeQuery:@"SELECT * FROM Feed"]; for ( EGODatabaseRow * row in results) { NSLog(@"ID: %@ Title: %@", [row stringForColumn:@"FeedID"], [row stringForColumn:@"Title"]); } I appreciate if anyone can share me a working sample code for EGODatabase. I'm using EGODatabase because I might have multi-threading code that write to the database. Thank in advance.

  • Using Yahoo local search query for iPhone

    - by robbmcmahan
I'm using yahoo local search in an iPhone app and trying to query everything in a certain location. According to the api docs you can pass "*" to query and it will return everything. I've tried passing it several different ways, including the way below but it does not work unless I actually pass it a real query. Does anyone know how or what I need to pass to make it query everything? [self setQuery:[@"*" stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding]]; Thanks

  • Having trouble parsing itunes affiliate xml...

    - by MKDev
Hi, I am trying to parse an itunes affiliate xml link purely for practise, using NSXMLParser but the link will not parse. The itunes affiliate xml link is this: http://itunes.apple.com/au/rss/topsongs/limit=50/genre=20/xml?partnerId=2003&TD_PARAM=http%3A%2F%2Fclkuk.tradedoubler.com%2Fclick%3Fp%3D23708%26a%3D1904172%26url%3D. it works perfectly in safari on my mac. The normal itunes link I tried parsing: http://itunes.apple.com/%@/rss/%@/limit=50/genre=20/xml works perfectly with the NSXMLParser. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? Thanks in advanced. • Obj-C Sending Messages Between Classes

    - by user544359
I'm a newbie in iPhone Programming. I'm trying to send a message from one view controller to another. The idea is that viewControllerA takes information from the user and sends it to viewControllerB. viewControllerB is then supposed to display the information in a label. viewControllerA.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface viewControllerA : UIViewController { int num; } -(IBAction)do; @end viewControllerA.m #import "viewControllerA.h" #import "viewControllerB.h" @implementation viewControllerA - (IBAction)do { //initializing int for example num = 2; viewControllerB *viewB = [[viewControllerB alloc] init]; [viewB display:num]; [viewB release]; //viewA is presented as a ModalViewController, so it dismisses itself to return to the //original view, i know it is not efficient [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } - (void)dealloc { [super dealloc]; } @end viewControllerB.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface viewControllerB : UIViewController { IBOutlet UILabel *label; } - (IBAction)openA; - (void)display:(NSInteger)myNum; @end viewControllerB.m #import "viewControllerB.h" #import "viewControllerA.h" @implementation viewControllerB - (IBAction)openA { //presents viewControllerA when a button is pressed viewControllerA *viewA = [[viewControllerA alloc] init]; [self presentModalViewController:viewA animated:YES]; } - (void)display:(NSInteger)myNum { NSLog(@"YES"); [label setText:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", myNum]]; } @end YES is logged successfully, but the label's text does not change. I have made sure that all of my connections in Interface Builder are correct, in fact there are other (IBAction) methods in my program that change the text of this very label, and all of those other methods work perfectly... Any ideas, guys? You don't need to give me a full solution, any bits of information will help. Thanks.

  • Why do they initialize pointers this way?

    - by Rob
In almost all of the books I read and examples I go through I see pointers initialized this way. Say that I have a class variable NSString *myString that I want to initialize. I will almost always see that done this way: -(id)init { if (self = [super init]) { NSString *tempString = [[NSString alloc] init]; myString = tempString; [tempString release]; } return self; } Why can't I just do the following? -(id)init { if (self = [super init]) { myString = [[NSString alloc] init]; } return self; } I don't see why the extra tempString is ever needed in the first place, but I could be missing something here with memory management. Is the way I want to do things acceptable or will it cause some kind of leak? I have read the Memory Management Guide on developer.apple.com and unless I am just missing something, I don't see the difference.

  • fastest in objC: IsEqualToString:@"" or length > 0?

    - by Cœur
I'd like to know which one is fastest for testing a non-empty NSString for iOS 4.0+ (iPhone 3G). Note: the strings to test will be 99% of the time from 2 to 100 chars length. if ([foo length] > 0) or if ([foo isEqualToString:@""] == NO && foo != nil) I think it depends if isEqualToString: compares the length first (and in that case first way is faster) or if isEqualToString: compares first character of strings first (and in that case second way might be faster). ps: I already know isEqualToString: is faster than isEqual: which is itself faster than compare:.

  • Getting errors in my appdelegate when I make my masterview declared it as globally.

    - by monish
Hi Guys, Here I am fighting with a problem couple of hours. My problem is Here is my code in appdelegate didFinishLaunching method. #import "CorkItAppDelegate.h" @implementation CorkItAppDelegate @synthesize window,isPicker,isFirstTime, winTyp,winTypId,wineCatName, wineRegName, theViewController, catId,regId,facebookObject,isGetWineName, getNewWineName,isNewWine, getNewWineReg,isNewReg,wineDetPk,currentLocation, internetConnectionStatus; static NSString* mapCurrentLocationUrlArg = @"http://maps.google.com/maps?q=%s@"; - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application { // Override point for customization after application launch //facebookObject=[[FacebookMyLib alloc]init]; [self createEditableCopyOfDatabaseIfNeeded]; [self initializeDataStructures]; [MyCLController sharedInstance].delegate = self; [[MyCLController sharedInstance].locationManager startUpdatingLocation]; isGetWineName = NO; facebookObject = [[FacebookMyLib alloc] init]; theViewController = [[[MasterViewController alloc] init]autorelease]; UINavigationController* controller = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:theViewController]; controller.navigationBar.barStyle = UIBarStyleBlackOpaque; [window addSubview:controller.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } here in this code I declared the MasterView controller globally in .h class. and it written property and synthesize for that. But when I run the build I am getting two errors at #import "MasterViewController" like error:expected specifier-qualifier-list before 'MasterViewController'. can anyone suggest me how to get rid of this. Anyone's help will be much Appreciated. Thank you, Monish.

  • How to notify ViewController on parse end with multiple ViewControllers using a single parser.

    - by objneodude
Hello, I have created a RSS parser and 3 TableViews and it parses the RSS files fine but I don't know how to notify the TableViewController when parsing has ended so it can update the view. The TableViewController initiates the parser and the parsing of a feed. parser = [[RSSParser alloc] initWithURL:@"http://randomfeed.com"]; I can access the single feed items like [parser feedItems]; In parser.m i have implemented the delegate methods of NSXMLParser: - (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didStartElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *)namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qualifiedName attributes:(NSDictionary *)attributeDict - (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser foundCharacters:(NSString *)string - (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didEndElement:(NSString *)elementName - (void)parserDidEndDocument:(NSXMLParser *)parser So how do i get parserDidEndDocument to notify my controllers so i can add the data to the tableview. Cheers from a obj-c beginner.

  • Best practices for parsing HTML from Wikipedia for iPhone viewing?

    - by ivanTheTerrible
I am building an iPhone Wikipeida game app, that requires modifying the default Wiki HTML a little bit (mostly simplifying the page). So far I am directly downloading the HTML output from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_Foo to a python Google App Engine, and then modify its CSS and HTML structure, cache it, and finally output to iPhone. It works but I find this method quite tedious, there must be a better method? Please note that I use App Engine not just for parsing the Wiki, but the game also requires it to keep the stores...etc, hence not a overkill. Also, I would prefer doing all the work with python on App Engine, to keep the iPhone client as thin and mobile as possible (XML on iPhone is a big no fun) Thanks a lot.

  • UITabBarController not showing all view controllers

    - by rounak
My UITabBarcontroller has two view controllers -Favorites -Keypad I add these two controllers in an array in the order Favorites,Keypad, nil. When the app is launched only the Favorites tab appears in the tabbar, I have to click the second tab for the "Keypad" (Title of the viewController) text to appear on the tabbar. How do I make the tabbar have the title of both the view controllers at startup itself?

  • Core Data combined Query

    - by Chris Summer
    Hey, i have question related to CoreData. My iphone project has 2 Entities, Organisation and Brand with a 1 to many "BrandsToOrg" relationship and inverse. So my project has a Mapview, where you can see all the Organisations and a little subview when you click on those Organisations.At the subview there is a "show Brands" Button, which should init a new TableView who only shows the brands belong to the seleceted organisation. Any ideas how i can code that? thx NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat: @"(TitleMedium == %@)",@"Rock Antenne"];???? NSFetchRequest *request = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:self.entityName inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; [request setEntity:entity]; // If a predicate was passed, pass it to the query if(predicate != nil) { [request setPredicate:predicate]; } // If a sort key was passed, use it for sorting. NSString *sortKey=@"TitleMedium"; BOOL sortAscending=YES; if(sortKey != nil) { NSSortDescriptor *sortDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:sortKey ascending:sortAscending]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:sortDescriptor, nil]; [request setSortDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; [sortDescriptors release]; [sortDescriptor release]; } NSError *error; NSMutableArray *mutableFetchResults = [[managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:request error:&error] mutableCopy]; [request release]; [self setEntityArray:mutableFetchResults];

  • NSString potential leak

    - by VansFannel
Hello. When I build and analyze my project on XCode, I obtain a 'warning' on the following line: NSString *contactEmail = (NSString *)ABMultiValueCopyValueAtIndex(emailInfo, 0); The message is: Potential leak on object allocated on line ... and stored into contactEmail. Is there any error on that line? UPDATE I get the same 'warning' with this line of code: ABMultiValueRef emailInfo = ABRecordCopyValue(person, kABPersonEmailProperty); But here, I can't do this: [emailInfo release]; I'm developing for iPhone.
