• How can I prevent my volume from changing when initiating a Skype call?

  I already know about the option in Control Panel Sound Communications, so please don't bother pointing me there. I am using the Skype Modern UI app and whenever I start a call, it lowers the volume of anything else that I have active. How can I resolve this issue? Also, not sure if this is related, but any Modern UI music apps also lower their own volume when they are not in the foreground. When implementing an RBAC model using an LDAP store (I'm using Apache Directory 1.0.2 as a testbed), some of the actors are obviously mappable to specific objectClasses: Resources - I don't see a clear mapping for this one. applictionEntity seems only tangentially intended for this purpose Permissions - a Permission can be viewed as a single-purpose Role; obviously I'm not thinking of an LDAP permission, as they govern access to LDAP objects and attributes rather than an RBAC permission to a Resource Roles - maps fairly directly to groupOfNames or groupOfUniqueNames, right? Users - person In the past I've seen models where a Resource isn't dealt with in the directory in any fashion, and Permissions and Roles were mapped to Active Directory Groups. Is there a better way to represent these actors? How about a document discussing good mappings and intents of the schema?

• Three displays, one video card and no eyefinity mode

  I am looking for a video card to run three monitors, it could be hdmi, dvi or vga. I want the three monitors to show an extended desktop but as three different desktops with maybe different resolutions, so when i maximize something it should be maximized only in one monitor. The information seems confusing, I think eyefinity tricks the OS to make it looks like one big display. I am sure I dont want this. So my question(s) is, is there a video card in the market that support 3 displays without eyefinity? Or can I use an eyefinity enabled card ( with one active display port) to run three monitors and disable eyefinity from the driver settings or something?

• Why can't the Adobe Flash player send key strokes it doesn't handle to the browse in which it is run

  I'm a heavy web user that uses the address bar constantly while browsing the web. I often use Ctrl + T to open a new tab or Ctrl + D to move focus to the address bar so it is very annoying that these shortcut keys do not work when a Flash object has focus on the active browser tab. I would happily give up all keyboard handling in the Flash Player in exchange for having keystrokes sent to the browser. In fact, as someone who has worked in software development for over 15 years it is hard to believe that Flash doesn't pass common browser shortcut keys to the browser or have an option to do so. So my question is this: Am I missing some option, some Flash shortcut key or some Firefox add-on that will alleviate my suffering?

  Hi there, I'm having trouble making a simple shape move along a path in IE7 (the only version of IE I tried, actually). The following code works fine in chrome and firefox, but not IE. I couldn't find an obvious reason, has anybody seen something similar? canvas.path(rPath.path).attr("stroke", "blue"); var circle = canvas.circle(rPath.startX, rPath.startY, 5); circle.animateAlong(rPath.path, 3000, true); My rPath variable has the path and the starting point coordinates. • Scripts on UNC paths take very long to run

  I have several scripts in UNC paths (from Windows batch files to PHP scripts). No matter how I run them (double click on explorer, my editor's run command menu or Windows command prompt) they take really long to start running (like 14 seconds). Once they get started they run normally. This doesn't happen if I run them from mapped drives. I'm using Windows XP Professional SP3 inside an Active Directory domain and files are hosted in a Windows Server box (not sure about the version, it's an HP dedicated file server with bundled OS). Why does it happen? Is there a way to speed up things while using UNC paths?

  When the mouse hovers over each column I'd like the tooltip to indicate whether that column is sortable.   I'm trying to learn jQuery by implementing a simple menu. I've got <div> elements that act as buttons and have links in them. I'm trying to add onclick events to the divs that navigate the browser to the link's address in the div. This is basically my pseudo-code. What would the real code be? How can I improve this? • Help replacing old Windows 2003 SBS DC with a Win2008 Standard Edition DC

  Objective: Trying to replace a Windows 2003 SBS domain controller with a windows server 2008 Standard Edition Domain Controller. What I did: used ADPREP. Then all user accounts and OUs are successfully replicated into the 2008 server. I have also managed to transfer all the DC roles (operations master,schema,pdc) into the Server 2008. I have also used NETDOM QUERY FSMO . It displayed that all the roles transferred to the 2008 server. Problem: When I am trying to demote the windows 2003 SBS server using DCPROMO, the message is “No other Active Directory for this domain can be contacted”. I also tried shutting down the 2003 server. Users can login into the domain but they have trouble finding SHARED folders. Can someone help me find out what I did wrong ? Need a little push in the right direction here. Thank you very much ?

  I am using UFW with a default logging policy of "low". I would like to keep this logging on for the default deny action, but disable it for a particular IP address only. So I'd like to create one particular new rule that doesn't have logging. Is there a way to achieve this? • Disable DirectDraw, but still have Direct3D?

  I have a Windows XP SP3 machine, with up-to-date patches. It has DirectX 9.0c, version number 4.09.00.0904. Can I disable DirectDraw, but have Direct3D still active? I read the Wikipedia articles about DirectDraw and Direct3D, but do not know if I understand them correctly: That is, it contains many commands for 3D rendering; however, since version 8, Direct3D has superseded the old DirectDraw framework and also taken responsibility for the rendering of 2D graphics. Does that mean DirectDraw is now a part of Direct3D? Because I cannot disable DirectDraw without disabling Direct3D, but it works the other way around.

• Vim's relativenumber setting and multiple buffers

  I like the relative number setting. I'm refactoring code at the moment (translation: explodicating 5 year old terrible methods and replacing them with nice code) and I find it useful to have the setting active on files as I open them I frequently either open multiple buffers or use a client/server vim to contain all my open buffers/files and have noticed that the relative number only seems to apply to the first buffer (and not the remaining buffers when I have set rnu in my .vimrc file.) Is it expected behaviour for rnu to only initially apply to the first buffer until you manually set it?

• Help make sense of a KillDisk error/log

  I have a hard drive that I've been trying to reformat. I tried reformatting it in the windows XP and 7 installers, and in an Ubuntu live cd with gparted. I tried using dd to 'zero' the drive as well with no success. Finally I ran across KillDisk after a search. • Recommendations for screen-capture tool that retains menus and mouse pointer

  There are several screen capture tool questions already on this site, but I think I have a slight tweak to the usual. I'd like a handy screen capture utility that can: Run in Windows 7 Capture a sub-region of the screen Show the current state of the mouse cursor and any active menus I'd like to use it for writing docs that refer to specific application menu items. I like the built-in snipping tool in Windows 7, but the act of using it dismisses my menus, and it doesn't get the mouse cursor either. Do any such tools exist? EDIT: Ahh, I wasn't familiar with the "delayed capture" options of these tools, but they all seem to fit the bill. Thanks!

• What's the simplest configuration of SVN on a Windows Server to avoid plain text password storage?

  I have an SVN 1.6 server running on a Windows Server 2003 machine, served via CollabNet's svnserve running as a service (using the svn protocol). I would like to avoid storing passwords in plain text on the server. Unfortunately, the default configuration and SASL with DIGEST-MD5 both require plain text password storage. What is the simplest possible way to avoid storing passwords in plain text? My constraints are: Path-based access control to the SVN repository needs to be possible (currently I can use an authz file). As far as I know, this is more-or-less independent of the authentication method. Active directory is available, but it's not just domain-connected windows machines that need to authenticate: workgroup PCs, Linux PCs and software that uses PySVN to perform SVN operations all need to be able to access the repositories. Upgrading the SVN server is feasible, as is installing additional software.

  Another employee was working with a mounted VHD and was using diskpart on it and I'm not sure if he messed something up or not. I think it's fine but I wanted to double check. We have a Windows 2008 x64 machine that boots with EFI because of the large disks in the system. What should the different labels be within Disk Manager for this system? Here is what is currently set: 200 MB Partition - EFI System Partition C Partition - Boot, Page File, Crash Dump There should not be an active partition under EFI, correct? Also, is there supposed to be a "System" label in addition to "EFI System Partition"?

• jQuery Accordion Plugin: removeClass('selected')

  I am using the Accordion menu to filter a data table. The menu contains two filters, with multiple options under each. You can only have ONE filter selected at a time. If you click between the two options under the first filter, the style class, 'selected' is added and removed without a problem. If you click an option under the second filter though, it DOESN'T remove the 'selected' class from the first filter. Any help would be appreciated. • Only three primary partitions?

  As everyone probably knows, Windows allows a drive to have four primary partitions, one of which may be active. However, I have only three primary partitions. I shrunk one and created a fourth partition so I could install Windows 8 on it, but Disk Management only allows it to be a logical partition. Why might this be the case? If I cannot convert it to a primary partition, is it advisable to install Windows on a logical partition? If so, is hibernation supported?

• Recover from a corrupted couchbase install

  We have a couchbase installation on a Windows 2008 R2 server that got corrupted (this was from before my tenure, now I want to clean it up). There is no add-remove entry in the Programs and Features list. There is no active service in services.msc. However, something still thinks Couchbase is installed. Shy of wiping the box (we aren't quite to "redeploy test environment servers at the push of a button" altho I'm working on it), how can I ensure that all remnants of couchbase installs prior are now gone? I believe the previous install was in the Couchbase 2.x range, but it may have been 1.7+ Running the installer again gives "Installer needs to update registry value in order to upgrade from the previous version. Please run installer again to continue."

• How can I stop new Command Prompt windows spawned by another program from covering my foreground win

  Under Windows 7 x64, when I'm ripping CDs with Exact Audio Copy, it spawns a Command Prompt window each time it invokes the external MP3 compression program I use, LAME. While that's going on, I usually like to surf the web. However, I find it quite annoying that even when Firefox has the foreground, the Command Prompt windows spawned by EAC are coming up in the foreground, on top of my Firefox window. Is there a way to make those new Command Prompt windows spawn in the background? Alternatively, is there a way to make the current active window stay in the foreground / on top while I'm using it?

  Hey all I have this code where I am using jQuery to navigate to the next page, because I want some effects to take place before that happens. The problem is, that everything after the prevent.Default(); doesn't seem to work! $("a").click(function(event){ event.preventDefault(); $(".content-center").animate({height: "0px"}, 500); navigate($(this).attr('href')); }); I need things to happen in that order, so that the animation happens and once it's complete - load the next page...   Hi, I have a php class that generates a map image depending on my db data. It is periodically updated thru a serInterval loop. I am trying to update it with no flickering but I just can't. I would prefer an inmediate swap insteado of a fade. The problem I'm having is that after calling updatemap() the image just dissapears. ¿Maybe it is a problem with the attribute src I am parsing?
