• How do I create a timed ban on an account? (PHP/mysql)

  I want to create a function that allows me to ban an account for 10days. In the dbc, I have a field called "ban" and Boolean of 1=notban, 0=ban. I also have a field called "date_banned" which is just the timestamp of when the user got banned. My question is how do I create a time frame of 10days from the date the user was banned? ex: James was banned on "2010-05-03 20:43:48". So how can I go about adding 10days to the timestamp? And after 10days, it would set the "ban" equal to 1(which is not banned).

• fastest way to perform string search in general and in python

  My task is to search for a string or a pattern in a list of documents that are very short (say 200 characters long). However, say there are 1 million documents of such time. What is the most efficient way to perform this search?. I was thinking of tokenizing each document and putting the words in hashtable with words as key and document number as value, there by creating a bag of words. Then perform the word search and retrieve the list of documents that contained this word. From what I can see is this operation will take O(n) operations. Is there any other way? may be without using hash-tables?. Also, is there a python library or third party package that can perform efficient searches?

  Hello, I am trying to figure out the SQL for doing some relatively simple operations on sets of records in a table but I am stuck. Consider a table with multiple rows per item, all identified by a common key. For example: serial model color XX1 A blue XX2 A blue XX3 A green XX5 B red XX6 B blue XX1 B blue What I would for example want to do is: Assuming that all model A rows must have the same color, find the rows which dont. (for example, XX3 is green). Assuming that a given serial number can only point to a single type of model, find out the rows which that does not occur (for example XX1 points both to A and B) These are all simple logically things to do. To abstract it, I want to know how to group things by using a single key (or combination of keys) and then compare the values of those records. Should I use a join on the same table? should i use some sort of array or similar? thanks for your help

• How do I use a default setting from Root.plist?

  I have set up a default setting for my app using Root.plist, giving this a Boolean DefaultValue of YES (ticked checkbox).You can see a screengrab at http://www.infin8design.com/clients/stack/plist.png However, when my app is first launched, the YES value is not picked up, and the setting is read as a NO (or 0). The user has to manually go into the settings app, turn the toggleswitch off, then turn it back on again for this setting to hold a YES(1) value. I'm logging the value with appDidFinishLaunching like this. - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { NSUserDefaults *defaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; NSLog(@"%d",[defaults boolForKey:@"include_phrases"]); SO... my question is...   Memcache in general and on AppEngine in specific is unreliable in the sense that my data may be deleted from the cache for whatever reason at any point in time. However, in some cases there might be cases where a small risk may be worth the added performance using memcache could give, such as updating some data in memcache that gets saved periodically to some other, more reliable storage. Are there any numbers from Google that could give me an indication of the actual probability that a memcache entry would be lost from the cache before its expiration time, given that I keep within my quotas? Are there any reasons other than hardware failure and administrative operations such as machines at the data centers being upgraded/moved/replaced that would cause entries to be removed from memcache prematurely?

  I have a C# method say: MyMethod(int num, string name, Color color, MyComplexType complex) Using reflection, how can I distinctly identify each of the parameter types of any method? I want to perform some task by parameter type. If the type is simple int, string or boolean then I do something, if it is Color, XMLDocument, etc I do something else and if it is user defined type like MyComplexType or MyCalci etc then I want to do certain task. I am able to retrieve all the parameters of a method using ParameterInfo and can loop through each parameter and get their types. But how can I identify each data type? foreach (var parameter in parameters) { //identify primitive types?? //identify value types //identify reference types } Edit: this is apart of my code to create a propert grid sort of page where I want to show the parameter list with data types for the selected method. If the parameter has any userdefined type/reference type then I want to expand it further to show all the elements under it with datatypes.

  Greetings. I'm trying to create a windows form application that manipulates data from several tables stored on a SQL server. 1) What's the best way to store the data locally, while the application is running? I had a previous program that only modified one table, and that was set up to use a datagridview. However, as I don't necessarily want to view all the tables, I am looking for another way to store the data retrieved by the SELECT * FROM ... query. 2) Is it better to load the tables, make changes within the C# application, and then update the modified tables at the end, or simply perform all operations on the database, remotely (retrieving the tables each time they are needed)? • Clarifying... So Background Jobs don't Tie Up Application Resources (in Rails)?

  I'm trying to get a better grasp of the inner workings of background jobs and how they improve performance. I understand that the goal is to have the application return a response to the user as fast as it can, so you don't want to, say, parse a huge feed that would take 10 seconds because it would prevent the application from being able to process any other requests. So it's recommended to put any operations that take more than say 500ms to execute, into a queued background job. What I don't understand is, doesn't that just delay the same problem? I know the user who invoked that background job will get an immediate response, but what if another user comes right when that background job starts (and it takes 10 seconds to finish), wont that user have to wait? Or is the main issue that, requests are the only thing that can happen one-at-a-time, while on the other hand a request can start while one+ background jobs are in the middle of running? Is that correct?

• Good Design for Initialization of Static Array

  I have a question regarding good design in C++. I have a class A, and all objects of this class use an integer array of constant values (they should share the same array, as their values are constant). The array needs to be computed (just once) before any object A. I thought about having another class B which contains the integer array as a static member, an init() method which would fill this array according to some formula and a static boolean flag initialized (if this variable if true then the init() method would do nothing), but I'm not sure this is the best way to solve my design issue. So my question is, what would be a good design/way to accomplish this ? Thanks in advance.

  I'm working on context-free grammars, and I have a function that returns the (terminal values of grammar) for example: i have non-terminal function that results in (A B) , from calling say ((A cat) (B happy np) (A B sad)) so technically A and B are non terminals of the grammar. Now I want to be able to get the terminals (cat happy np sad) (define terminals (lambda (lsts) (cond ((null? lsts) lsts) ((not(member? (car(car lsts)) (n-terminals lsts))) (cons (car(car lsts)) (terminals (car (cdr lsts))))) (else (terminals (cdr lsts)))))) PS: functionality of n-terminals is described above. member? is a boolean function that returns true if an item is a member of the list, false otherwise. My function returns an empty lst. What am I missing here?

  I have an ObjectManager class that is used to process payments. It is wrapped over the Order entities, so new instance has to be created when processing is required. I need to prevent the situation when several ObjectManager instances are dealing with the same order simultaneously (it happend once because of some errors on the remote payment processing center, somehow they called our callback urls twice). I'd love to get an advice how to implement it more efficiently.   I have an object that I'm populating from a selection off a table row that a user selects. I have a jQuery function that captures the click event and a hidden form field populates an id I need. However, I'm not sure as to the proper way to send off that object to a struts2 action?   Note: This was an interview question and may not have an actual use case currently The question was to design a class that can store numbers which are very very large say each number can have 100 digits. This new class is a datatype like int. What are the different types of constructors, overloads and other functions that you would write. How can this be further extended to support really large floating point numbers. How this can be given to others so that they can reuse the same component with their own additional functionality. My answer consisted of 2 approaches 1. using array of integers to store every say 10 digits 2. using string itself to store the number and perform operations on individual numbers. What would be the best approach?

• Is it possible to put a form control on its own thread?

  I'm using a DataGridView and some operations that I do cause it to become unresponsive for periods of time. Normally I would put data processing in its own thread to make the form more responsive, but in this case it's the DataGridView itself that's taking so long. This leads me to wonder whether it's possible to have the main form on one thread and the DataGridView on another thread so it doesn't prevent the main form from responding. I completely understand that doing so is probably not 'safe' and likely opens up a can of worms that makes it hardly worth trying and I fully expect this post will be getting down votes for merely suggesting such a ridiculous idea. Is this possible? And if so how would you go about it?

  I set an request attribute in my action class as follows: request.setAttribute("xFg",Boolean.TRUE); I want to retrive this in my JSP. I want to retrive them using JSTL tags. I tried this : <c:if test="${requestScope.xFg}"> <c:set var="showlist" value="true" /> </c:if> But c:if didnt work, i mean it didnt goto c:set I tried to print the sameusing c:out but nothing got displayed. What is wrong or How should i test request attribute value. I havent used requestScope so far. Is requestScope the option to get the request value? pls help.Thanks in advance.
