• Navigating through code with keyboard shortcuts

  I'm starting to feel the need to run fastly through code with keyboard shortcuts, to arrive faster where I want to make any changes (avoiding use of mouse or long times holding [up], [left], [right] and [down]). I'm already using some: [home] - first position in current line [end] - last position in current line [ctrl] + [home] - first line of the entire code [ctrl] + [end] - last line of the entire code [pageup] - same vertical position, one screen above [pagedown] - same vertical position, one screen below [ctrl] + [pageup] - first line in current screen [ctrl] + [end] - last line in current screen [ctrl] + [left/right] - skipping word per word What have you got ? I use Visual Studio. (but I'm open to any answer, as I maybe can use others soon) obs: I've searched through stackoverflow and didn't find a nice question with this content, nor a list of keyboard code searching. If it's repeated, I'm sorry for not finding it, I'm here in my best intentions. This question is NOT about any shortcuts, and not only about visual studio, it's about running through code with shortcuts. Answers that suit the question so far: [Ctrl] + [-] - jumps to last cursor position [Ctrl] + [F3] - Jumps to next occurance of the word the curson is in [Shift] + [F3] - Same as the above, backwards. [F12] - Goes to definition of method/variable the cursor is in [Ctrl] + [ ] ] - Jumps to matching brace and select I'll ad more as there are answers.

• Open source libraries to design directed graphs

  Hi all, I'm going to need to write a software that takes a list of persons and connects them together in a directed-graph-like manner. The GUI aspect of the whole project is very important. The graph must allow a lot of interaction. Such as selecting several people and hiding the others, moving them around. Additionally, the software will need to be able to provide other kind of GUI-features such as several tabs, text boxes etc. The application must be quite performant. As in, it must be able to handle hundreds if not thousands of widgets. Hence, I would like to know which open source libraries (at this point the programming language they are written in does not matter - I just want an overview of everything good that is out there) would allow me to develop such piece of software? What would you recommend? Thanks for that. Edit: Could you please also link to tutorials explaining how I could program a GUI that can interact with the generated graph? For example mouse events.

• jQuery carousel clicks update <select> list's "selected" option to match clicked item's title attrib

  The code below allows me to change a preview image outside the carousel widget so that it matches the element under the mouse. For example, if the user mouses over image2's thumbnail, the script updates .selectedImage so that it displays image2's full size version. I'd like to enhance it so that the #myThumbs options listing updates its "selected" option to match the carousel image that receives a click. Mouseover changes the preview image and click changes the select list to match the same name. • VSC++, virtual method at bad adress, curious bug

  Hello, This guy: virtual phTreeClass* GetTreeClass() const { return (phTreeClass*)m_entity_class; } When called, crashed the program with an access violation, even after a full recompile. All member functions and virtual member functions had correct memory adresses (I hovered mouse over the methods in debug mode), but this function had a bad memory adress: 0xfffffffc. Everything looked okay: the 'this' pointer, and everything works fine up until this function call. This function is also pretty old and I didn't change it for a long time. The problem just suddenly popped up after some work, which I commented all out to see what was doing it, without any success. So I removed the virtual, compiled, and it works fine. I add virtual, compiled, and it still works fine! I basically changed nothing, and remember that I did do a full recompile earlier, and still had the error back then. I wasn't able to reproduce the problem. But now it is back. I didn't change anything. Removing virtual fixes the problem. Sincerely, Antoon

• Hide Image Title in Slimbox

  My issue is a lot like this solved thread, except I'm using Slimbox 2: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/940994/hide-image-title-tool-tip-popup-on-mouse-rollover-or-hover When you hover over an image, the "Title" attribute pops up. I need HTML in my image title in Slimbox. So, of course, when you're hovering, the "Title" attribute shows all the HTML code. The code works perfectly when you're viewing the image in Slimbox so no problems there. I just need the Title attribute to be hidden/modified not to show this HTML code. I tried to change Q.title in slimbox.js to something else (like captionname). Then changed the HTML to call for: <a href="images/team/large.jpg" title="Joe Smith" captionname="URL" rel="lightbox-team"><img src="images/team/small.jpg" class ="headline" border="1" hspace="2" /></a> "Joe Smith" displays as the Title but when you view the image in Slimbox, captionname does not come up at all and neither does the Title. It's just blank where it should be. What do I need to modify in slimbox2.js to make this work?

  I am trying to make the buttons hide by default and they only become visible when the mouse is over. • Recommendations for jQuery tooltips

  I am looking for tooltip plugins for jQuery that would allow for the following type of behavior. <a href="somewhere.html"> <span> <img src="someimage.jpg" style="display: none;" /> Here is the tooltip content. </span> Here is the link to somewhere. </a> The behavior that I am hoping for is to hover over "Here is the link to somewhere" and have a tooltip pop up showing the content of the span containing "someimage.jpg" and "Here is the tooltip content". I would prefer that the tooltip track along with the mouse's movement over the link and that the tooltip's appearace (background color, opacity, border color, etc.) be configurable. The two most popular tooltips that I have found, "clueTip" and Jörn Zaefferer's "Tooltip" do not seem to fit the bill, unless I am missing something. Ultimately, the links and images will be dynamically generated.

• HTML link over text issue

  I need to add a link over the entirety of a div which contains some more divs. Looks like this: div.top { width: 150px; height: 150px; position: relative; } a.link { width: 150px; height: 150px; position: absolute; top: 0; } <div class="top"> <div class="text1">Text 1</div> <div class="text2">Text 2</div> <a class="link" href="http://something"></a> </div> So I put a link inside and made it the size of the top div. Everythign works fine in Firefox, Safari and Chrome. In IE and Opera, whenever I hover mouse cursor over that area but also over a text, the cursor is changing to selection cursor, not a hand (meaning no link). Whenever I move the cursor off the text, the link is available again. How can I make the link to "cover" the text completely? I tried adding z-index: div.top { z-index: 0; } a.link { z-index: 1; } doesn't help. Any ideas?

• jQuery or CSS - How do you make a link in a table row appear underlined even when the cursor is in a

  I have a table of 3-4 columns, the central one being task names that are also links(yet another todo app..groan). Im trying to make it so that whenever the mouse hovers over any part of the table row - not just the link itself - the link will appear underlined. Its a small detail but its been annoying me like hell and i refuse to let it get the better of me now. At first i tried jQuery with a (forgive the obvious syntax errors but this is the jist) $('#row_in_question').hover( function(){ $(this).find(...the link..).toggleClass("highlighted") }, function(){ $(this).find(...the link..).toggleClass("highlighted") } ); with this as a styling for the a element in general .highlighted { text-decoration: underlined; } and it did indeed toggle the highlighted class on that link - however css inheritance got in the way and no visual changes made. Since i previously styled that link to have no underline when not hovered it wouldnt change the style. So how do i go about this? I dont want the whole row to become clickable, I just want the text to become underlined.

• Issues with simulating cell selection in Excel using PostMessage

  Hi all, So far I've tried drag/drop motion in many applications including Visualization software (moving time slider left/right), Photoshop-Paint (drawing) etc. I need some more testing before I make sure that my system works and it failed in Excel. I can even drag a plot around (with the code above) but it doesn't work for clicking and dragging the mouse to select multiple cells. It just doesn't do anything. I can't use SendInput because the window doesn't have the focus and is in background. Thanks!

• Difference in clientX and clientY when going out of the browser on ie/ff

  I just ran into a little problem with clientX and clientY. I put a little event to detect if the mouse goes out of the window and to know where it exits. And there come the trouble, it works fine with firefox, but only sends -1 as an answer in IE. Does someone know if there is a way to solve easily that problem and that without using a framework? • Why does this tooltip appear *below* a transclucent form?

  I have an form with an Opacity less then 1.0. I have a tooltip associated with a label on the form. When I hover the mouse over the label, the tooltip shows up under the form instead of over the form. If I leave the Opacity at its default value of 1.0, the tooltip correctly appears over the form. However, my form is obviously no longer translucent. ;-) I'm testing on an XP system with .NET 3.5. If you don't see this problem on your system, let me know what operating system and version of .NET you have. I have tried manually adjusting the position of the ToolTip with SetWindowPos() and creating a ToolTip "by hand" using CreateWindowEx(), but the problem remains. This makes me suspect its a Win32 API problem, not a problem with the Windows Forms implementation that runs on top of Win32. Why does the tooltip appear under the form, and, more importantly, how can I get it to appear over the form where it should? • How to move point on arc?

  I am writing an app that is simulating RobotArm movement. What I want to achieve, and where I have couple of problems is moving a Point on arc (180degree) that is arm range of movement. I am moving an arm by grabbing with mouse end of arm (Elbow, the Point I was talking about), robot can have multiple arms with diffrent arm lenghts. If u can help me with this part, I'd be grateful.   HI, i am using the following code to show a link which is inside the li element. the constrain is, once the mouse enter into li element, and if it's stay inside 3sec, then it need to show. once i leave from li element, immateriality it should hide. for this, i am using : var showTimeOut; var thisElement $('.user-list li').live('mouseover',function(){ thisElement = $(this).children('a.copier-link'); showTimeOut = setInterval(function(){ thisElement.css({'display':'block'}); },3000); }) $('.user-list li').live('mouseleave',function(){ clearInterval(showTimeOut); thisElement.hide(); }) It's work fine. But the problem is, while i cross the li element with just a second, even the interval is calling, and showing the link. but i need to show only, if i stay inside 3sec and it need to hide there after, again i stay back 3sec. anything wrong with my code?, else any one give me the best suggestion? • Creating collaborative whiteboard drawing application

  I have my own drawing program in place, with a variety of "drawing tools" such as Pen, Eraser, Rectangle, Circle, Select, Text etc. It's made with Python and wxPython. Each tool mentioned above is a class, which all have polymorphic methods, such as left_down(), mouse_motion(), hit_test() etc. The program manages a list of all drawn shapes -- when a user has drawn a shape, it's added to the list. This is used to manage undo/redo operations too. So, I have a decent codebase that I can hook collaborative drawing into. Each shape could be changed to know its owner -- the user who drew it, and to only allow delete/move/rescale operations to be performed on shapes owned by one person. I'm just wondering the best way to develop this. One person in the "session" will have to act as the server, I have no money to offer free central servers. Somehow users will need a way to connect to servers, meaning some kind of "discover servers" browser...or something. How do I broadcast changes made to the application? Drawing in realtime and broadcasting a message on each mouse motion event would be costly in terms of performance and things get worse the more users there are at a given time. Any ideas are welcome, I'm not too sure where to begin with developing this (or even how to test it)

• Keyboard shortcut to Un/Comment out code in Mathematica 7?

  A keyboard shortcut to comment/uncomment out a piece of code is common in other programming IDE's for languages like Java, .Net. I find it a very useful technique when experimenting through trial and error to temporarily comment out and uncomment lines, words and parts of the code to find out what is and isn't working. I cannot find any such keyboard shortcut on the Mathematica front end in version 7. I know that it is possible to comment out code by selecting the code, right mouse click and select Un/Comment from the menu that appears but this is too slow while coding. I tried to access this using the menu key Menu on the keyboard but Mathematica frontend doesn't respond to or recognise this key unlike other applications, this could have allowed a key combination for commenting. Can someone else verify that this isn't unique to my machine and that the key isn't recognised by mathematica. I looked at this question and looked in the KeyEventTranslations.tr file but I don't think there is any way to create a shortcut to do this(?). Should I just live with it? Any other suggestions? (I have seen there is an Emacs version of mathematica, I have never tried Emacs or this Mma version and imagine that it would have this ability but would prefer not to go to the trouble and uncertainty of installing it. Also I would guess that the Wolfram Workbench could do this, but that may not be worth the investment just for this.)

• Creating a ComboBox with one or more separator items?

  I'm using Delphi7 and I'd like to have a ComboBox with separator items (Just like in popup menus). I've seen this beautifully implemented in Mozilla Sunbird (I know, it's not Delphi...) the following way: The separator item is a simple gray line drawn in the center of the item If you hover over the separator with the mouse, the selection doesn't appear If the user clicks the separator, it's not selected either AND the combobox doesn't closeup. No. 1 could be implemented using DrawItem. I could live without No. 2 because I have no idea about that. For No. 3 I'm asking for your help. I've figured out that straight after closing up a CBN_CLOSEUP message is sent to the combobox. I thought about hooking the window proc and if CBN_CLOSEUP is sent to a certain combobox then countering it. But I'm unsure if this is the best solution, or maybe there are other, more elegant ways? Whatever the solution is, I'd like to have a standard ComboBox which supports WinXP/Vista/7 theming properly. Thanks! • HTML dynamic tags insert looks different compared to static layout

  I program HTML interface with jquery. There is editable list of publications on the page and user can click any publication to edit details. Popup window appears with data and there is list of authors embedded into details form. There are edit/delete buttons against every of them + "add new author" button. User manipulates authors without page reload. When I insert a new author there are new edit/delete buttons created dynamically & embedded into page. I insert tags like this: <td class="author-actions"> <img onclick='edit(id)' .../> <img onclick='delete(id)' .../> </td> Just the same html-layout that is sent from web-server when popup window appears. But somehow it looks different. There is extraspace between images though firebug demonstrates the same css attributes applied. If I select with mouse inserted layout with IE, somehow it can reorder and become the same-looklike as the those, send by web-server. What can it be?

• Stop Visual Studio from appending numbers to the end of new controls

  I am wondering if there is any way to stop Visual Studio 2010 from appending a number to the end of the ID on new controls I create. For example, when I add a new TextBox, I would prefer that it do this: <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox" runat="server"> <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox" runat="server"> <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox" runat="server"> Instead of this: <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"> <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox2" runat="server"> <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox3" runat="server"> It would make it easier to rename them appropriately, so I don't have to arrow/mouse over and delete the number each time. As I was writing this, the "Questions that may already have your answer" suggested this: How do I prevent Visual Studio from renaming my controls? which admittedly was the biggest part of my annoyance, but that appears to turn off putting in an ID="" field altogether, not just for pasted controls. It would still be helpful to turn off the numbering for new, non-pasted controls and have it not rename pasted ones as well. At the moment I'm working with ASP.NET, but it would be nice if it there was a way to do it for WinForms as well. Before anyone suggests it, I do know that allowing it to append the numbers prevents name conflicts should I not rename them appropriately. However, I would much rather have it fail to compile so I know to fix the issue now (if I forget to name something properly) rather than find random "TextBox1" items lying around in the code later on.

• On XP, how do I get the tooltip to appear above a transclucent form?

  I have an form with an Opacity less then 1.0. I have a tooltip associated with a label on the form. When I hover the mouse over the label, the tooltip shows up under the form instead of over the form. If I leave the Opacity at its default value of 1.0, the tooltip correctly appears over the form. However, my form is obviously no longer translucent. ;-) I have tried manually adjusting the position of the ToolTip with SetWindowPos() and creating a ToolTip "by hand" using CreateWindowEx(), but the problem remains. This makes me suspect its a Win32 API problem, not a problem with the Windows Forms implementation that runs on top of Win32. Why does the tooltip appear under the form, and, more importantly, how can I get it to appear over the form where it should? Edit: this appears to be an XP-only problem. Vista and Windows 7 work correctly. I'd still like to find a workaround to get the tooltip to appear above the form on XP.   What are the best UI design in terms of usability and esthetics you have even seen? I mean both desktop software (of all OS) and website. My list: Picasa 3 - the way it organizes photos. Find-and-highlight-as-you-type in google Chrome. Dynamic search hints when entering something in the search box in Gmail. I'm not a Mac OS X user, but I have seen in most windows on the top toolbar there are both the icons and texts shown for each function, as apposed to on Windows I have seen many programs (MS Office included) have many small toolbar icons which you can hardly understand what they do until you hover the mouse on it for a while to see the hints (if any). The ability to search an setting in Eclipse IDE. the way to make 3D models in Google Sketchup. the way to label an email in Gmail. What are you list? Well, I couldn't resist to list some annoying UI design I have experienced and remember at this moment. IE on Windows server, when you visit the new website, you have to click many times to get it added to the white list before you can start browsing, IIRC, it's not fixed in IE 8 when that last time I used it on Windows 2008. The default search behavior in the File Explorer on Windows xp, that animated thing... the dialog that shows up when you are trying to save a plain text CSV file in Excel after applied some formatting options which does not compatible with CSV.
