• Disable remote session timeout on Win Server 2012 R2

  For botting purposes, I have to keep my Win Server 2012 R2 running without logging-off after I disconnect from Remote Session. Found information about it here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754272.aspx but I just its for Win Server 2008 and doesn't seem to work on 2012 version.   Let's say I have a quatity of items: 1 2 3 4 5 4 3 2 1 2 3 4 in a column of cells. What I want to be able to do is count the quantity how many unique "items" there are in this array: 1 -- 2 2 -- 3 3 -- 3 4 .. 3 And so forth. I want the table to look like this: Also, is there a way to accomplish this if I don't know all of the values of the array to begin with? I'm looking for a way to have excel search an array, find a unique value, count how many times that value is in the array, and then move onto the next values.

• Why does redirecting "sudo echo" stdout to a file not give root ownership?

  I'm pretty new to using Linux heavily, and I'm trying to learn more about file ownership and permissions. One thing that I stumbled on just now was exactly what the title says, running: weee@my-server:~$ sudo echo "hello" > some-file.txt weee@my-server:~$ ls -lh total 4.0K -rw-rw-r-- 1 weee weee 6 Dec 5 21:21 some-file.txt The file is owned by me, whereas touch works like one would expect: weee@my-server:~$ sudo touch other-file.txt weee@my-server:~$ ls -lh total 4.0K -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Dec 5 21:22 other-file.txt How can I force the file to be created by root? Do I simply have to create the file in my homedir, then sudo chown root... and sudo mv ... move it to /var where I need it to be? I was hoping there'd be a single step to accomplish this.

• How would I setup reverse DNS for 2 email servers?

  I have an interesting DNS question (well interesting to me atleast). I just installed an hmail server in our remote office to act as an MX backup in the event our exchange server goes down. The 2 host names are mail.campbellsurvey.com mail2.campbellsurvey.com mail points to the address 98.XXX.91.XXX mail2 points to the address 70.XXX.190.XXX How would I setup a PTR record on the ISP end to reflect both hostnames? Does the PTR have to point to EXACTLY mail.campbellsurvey.com or can it point to just campbellsurvey.com? because right now anything passing through the primary static address in our pool (the one used for standard internet) is identified as mail.campbellsurvey.com. My only idea to fix this was to move the mail server to the next available address and give it only it the name mail.campbellsurvey.com but I wanted to see if there was another way.   I'm a new user to GNU Screen. I've been using Bash for a very long time, and I want to give GNU Screen a try. As you know, GNU Screen uses 'C-a' (Control-A) as as the command character. Trouble is, this interferes with the Line Editing feature in Bash (and GNU Readline), because Control-A in Bash will Move to the start of the line." I know I can set the Command Character to another key sequence, like "^Q" or "``" (Backtick), but I have trouble finding another key sequence which isn't already in use (^Q is used by the terminal, backtick is used when writing shell scripts). It appears that the Command Character may only be one or two characters in length. Can I set the GNU Screen control character to be something like "Control-Shift-A"? (I can't use more then one hyperlink yet, so I cannot link to the Bash documentation)

  I have a large qcow2 formatted disk image, which I use as storage. Often I need to move data to and from this disk image. I mount the disk using the qemu-nbd tool as follows: modprobe nbd max_part=63 qemu-nbd -c /dev/nbd0 /host/disk100G.img mount /dev/nbd0p1 /home/rup/disk But disk access fails every now and then in the midst of some I/O operation with an "Input/output error". At that point I have to manually unmount the disk and re-mount it so that I can run the program again: qemu-nbd -d /dev/nbd0 umount joborkhaki/ What could be the reason for this? Is there a better tool that I can use to maintain a qcow2 disk image?

• Scanner Installation: Epson Perfection 3170 Photo, Windows 7 & Adobe Acrobat

  I installed the Driver v3.04A from Epson's Web site -- epson12180.exe that is supposedly for Windows 7. Now, the scanner works by itself, i.e. if I hit the scan button I get a dialog menu and can scan with one of the options there but not with Adobe Acrobat. What I need is to have it working from Adobe Acrobat when I go File - Create PDF - From Scanner - Custom Scan... The current state is that I see Scanner: "Please select a device" and no other available devices. I remember I used to see at least 2 other like "WIA Epson Perfection" and smth like "Epson Perfection". "WIA Epson Perfection" is the option that I am hoping to see to move on. • Connecting desktop computer to the internet through laptop wifi

  Due to some home network complications I have had to move my router to a seperate part of the house, therefore the wired network I had set up can no longer work. Before I find the time to go out and buy a Wifi adapter for my desktop PC, I have a laptop that uses a built in Wifi card to connect to my router and this can connect to the internet, and I was wondering if I could somehow access the internet on my desktop PC via my laptop. I'm hoping for a not-so-complex solution as this will only be set up for a few days, but it is quite vital that my desktop computer gets internet access. Does anyone have experience in this sort of thing and can help me out? Thanks.

• Disabling horizontal scrolling using mouse wheel

  Hello, I am using Windows 7 x64 on an iMac (via BootCamp) with the button-less Magic Mouse that comes with the iMac. I would like to disable the horizontal scrolling that happens when you move slightly the finger horizontally while doing a vertical scrolling. In the Control Panel, Mouse section, Wheel tab, Horizontal Scrolling section, the minimum value that you can enter is 1, not 0. Is there a way (in the Registry) to disable horizontal scrolling using the mouse wheel? Or to set that value to 0 to see if it does the trick? Notice that this is a Windows specific question, not Mac OSX or Apple or Magic Mouse question, it can apply to any mouse in Windows whose wheel supports horizontal scrolling apart from vertical scrolling.

• Is it possible to change the mount point used for external USB devices from /media to something else under GNOME?

  I'm using CentOS 5.x and am trying to change the mount point that get's used when I insert a USB thumb drive or external USB drive. They're showing up under /media/KINGSTON for example. I'd like to change this so that they show up under /external/KINGSTON for example. If you must know my reasons for asking this, I have a domain where they're already using /media for something else and it would be more work to move this domain's automount from /media to something else. I'm trying to explore all my options before I decide on a path forward. Thanks!

  Which unix like environment do you prefer on Windows? I have found Cygwin to be very comfortable for a windows platform (usually XP). I am wondering if there is a better alternative (not because I want to move away from Cygwin). What are the features of Cygwin that you like OR, What are features you find in alternatives that you miss in Cygwin? I am often miss binary compatibility of applications built on Cygwin. These cannot be run directly on another Windows platform. But, usually fetching a copy of cygwin1.dll suffices. A collection of other tools many of which work directly on the Windows subsystem rather than emulating unix, like Cygwin does. Have been referred PowerShell a lot of times for scripting on Windows Earlier, UnixUtils was suggested more often Microsoft Windows Services for Unix

• Is there way to use Windows Easy Transfer on Windows Server 2008

  At work, I'd been experimenting with using Windows Server 2008 as a desktop machine - I'm a s/w developer so some of the server software was particularly appropriate, but back in the day there was a suggestion that Server 2008 would be faster than Vista (mainly because of less bloat). I'm now wanting to move across to a new Windows 7 workstation; not only does Server 2008 not have Windows Easy Transfer, but I can't attack the problem from the Windows 7 end either - when I try to run the migration wizard it claims that the software 'isnt compatible with this version of Windows'. I'd bet that it would work fine, if only it wasn't for the arbitrary version check... Is there any way to coax this software into working? If not, any good alternatives to Windows Easy Transfer - I don't fancy having to manually copy application settings etc across myself...

• Migrating Shared Hosting and Email

  Hey Guys, I know there has already been a question that has been posted here about migrating shared hosting accounts, but wanted to get a second opinion on my plan to move hosting providers. My business is moving our shared hosting account (hosting and email) to a new provider, and would like to have minimal downtime. Here is our current plan: Create a backup of our old site Upload our site to the new host Set up duplicate email accounts with our new host Change the name server records on our domain to point to our new host Leave our old site up long enough for DNS records to propagate completely. I'm hoping this should result in little downtime for both website and email. • Best practice for authenticating DMZ against AD in LAN

  We have few customer facing servers in DMZ that also have user accounts , all accounts are in shadow password file. I am trying to consolidate user logons and thinking about letting LAN users to authenticate against Active Directory.Services needing authentication are Apache, Proftpd and ssh. After consulting security team I have setup authentication DMZ that has LDAPS proxy that in turn contacts another LDAPS proxy (proxy2) in LAN and this one passes authentication info via LDAP (as LDAP bind) to AD controller.Second LDAP proxy only needed because AD server refuses speak TLS with our secure LDAP implemetation. This works for Apache using appropriate module.At a later stage I may try to move customer accounts from servers to LDAP proxy so they are not scattered around servers. For SSH I joined proxy2 to Windows domain so users can logon using their windows credentials.Then I created ssh keys and copied them to DMZ servers using ssh-copy, to enable passwordless logon once users are authenticated. Is this a good way to implement this kind of SSO?Did I miss any security issues here or maybe there is a better way ofachieving my goal?

• How to change start menu location for Windows 7 Programs

  I keep my start menu in Windows 7 very organized, but every time there's a program update available (Safari for example), the program recreates its shortcut icons in the default start menu location for that program (Safari, for example, recreates start menu short icons in "Start Menu\All Programs\Safari"). So, every time I update a program I have to move it's start menu icons again to keep them organized the way I like. Some programs ask where I would like the start menu icon placed, and that works fine, but for the programs that don't ask... Is there a way to set a default start menu location for programs so that when I update, the shortcuts are placed in the folders I want them to be at? (Safari for example I keep in "Start Menu\All Programs\Web Browsers\Safari.lnk")

• Windows XP: GNU find.exe moved my files and now they're lost

  I used a series of GNU find.exe commands to move media files to the current folder. Explorer show that the folders and files still exist in their original location but properties show zero size and files. I performed a chkdisk and that didnt help. Any ideas how to recover these files? • Belkin Flip KVM keyboard skip problems

  I have just bought a Belkin Flip 2 port KVM. Functionally it is almost there except I have a keyboard sticking problem. So if I type the word 'Hello' it will often (about 25% of the time) output 'Hellooooooooooooooooooooo'. If I plug the keyboard directly into the USB on the computer I don't have this problem, only when plugged into the KVM. I feel like it is a USB speed problem. Followup It appears I have the same problem with the mouse, it will jump from one side of the screen to the other as I move it. The mouse is annoying but half as much as the keyboard.

• What are the implications of expanding an internal subnet mask?

  Our network is currently working on a 192.168.0.x subnet, all controlled through DHCP, except for the few main servers who have hard-configured IP address settings. What would I kill if I changed the DHCP-published subnet mask from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.0.0? The reason for doing this is not because we have a huge sudden influx of machines, but because I'd like to start partitioning specific devices into specific IP ranges (to be neat and tidy). For what its worth, I don' plan on changing the allocated DHCP address range, but rather want to move some of the reserved and excluded DHCP addresses out of the address pool. e.g. printers will be 192.168.2.x I will obviously need to change the subnet mask manually on my manually configured devices.

• Recover OffScreen Window in Windows 8

  Someone asked a very similar question in regards to window recovery for windows xp: Similar Recovery I'm using windows 8 (or 8.1 now). I run Dual Monitors. On Monitor 2 I sometimes have the input switched to something else other than the windows display (Mac or PS3). If there was a program that was displaying on Window #2 that does not have 'move' where I could potentially alt-space-m arrow keys. Is there another way to get that program to display on Window #1? I tried right click on the program and doesn't seem to be anything there. I tried Windows Key and Arrows. I Tried right click toolbar and cascade. I'm hoping this is a DUP or Softball question because this annoys the crap out of me. Thanks!!

• Win 7 Privilege Level (Run as administrator) via GP or command line

  Is there a way to set the Privilege Level for legacy software via group policy or on the command line? I have some legacy software, which we unfortunately cannot move away from. This software requires administrator access. I know I can go into the Properties dialog and check "Run this program as an administrator" on every single instance on every single one of my workstations, but that gets old after the 30th install. If I had my way, we would dump this software, find some software that did what we needed, was fully compliant with Win7 security best-practices and give everyone limited user accounts... However, I am not the boss, so everyone gets administrator accounts. Given that, I suppose I could just tell everyone to open the context menu and choose "Run as administrator", but we have some very, very, VERY low-tech users, and half of them might just choose "Delete" instead. Anyone know of a way to set this option on the command line? or better yet, through Group Policy?

• Microsoft Entourage/Exchange Server problem: all objects disappeared from server - still in some form on the client

  One of our employees works with Entourage on his MacBook Pro (OSX 10.6) accessing Exchange Server 2007. Last Friday morning, I think while working over a VPN, Entourage (I think it was Entourage) deleted all his objects (mail, calendar, contacts) on the server and while creating a lot of strange folders (starting with underscores) on the client. The local data seems to be there, but not in a consistent form. Since the user's mailbox is rather big, I suspect, that there was some kind of "move" operation which did not complete. I tried to export the data, but the export stops because of a corrupted object. Is there a tool or another way to export or retrieve the local data? Edit - FYI: we solved the problem getting his data from the previous night's backup.

There is small tray in Brother Printer manin tray where i can put any samll paper and then move the clamps so that it fits the paper.
