• Small Open source and free java applications

  I am a Perl Developer who has just stepped into the Java world and I want to be very proficient in Java EE development. However, I have found that, being a Perl guy, I have very high MTI(Mother Tongue Influence). Indians will know what MTI is. For others, it can be defined as an influence of your "main" language whenever you "speak" your new language. In other words, our mind converts/translates what we want to "say" in the new language based on the "main" language, which can be quite absurd or meaning less in the "new" language. Coming back to the point, as a result of this MTI, many lines of my code has this Perl influence and it is absurd and useless for production. Hence, I'd like to see or better do some research on existing small to medium open source java applications, so that I will know how I can "speak" in the native way of the "new" language. Some examples in PHP will be : WordPress, Zend etc. So I'd really appreciate if you guys could suggest any such apps. Apps that have a great commercial value are highly preferred

• What do I need to do if I want all typeof(MyEnum)'s to be handled with MyEnumModelBinder?

  I have an Enum that appears in several of my models. For the most part, the DefaultModelBinder handles binding to my models beautifully. That it, until it gets to my Enum... it always returns the first member in the Enum no matter what is handed it by the POST. My googling leads me to believe I need to have a model binder that knows how to handle Enums. I found an excellent article on a possible custom modelBinder for Enums: http://eliasbland.wordpress.com/2009/08/08/enumeration-model-binder-for-asp-net-mvc/. I've since implemented that modelBinder and registered it in my global.asax: ModelBinders.Binders[typeof (MyEnum)] = new EnumBinder<MyEnum>(MyEnum.MyDefault); For some reason, the EnumBinder< isn't being called when the model I'm binding to has MyEnum. I have a breakpoint in the .BindModel() method and it never break. Also, my model hasn't changed after modelBinding. Have I done everything? What am I missing here?

• Iphone: XML image problem

  Hi! I have a question about parsing XML and putting it into a table. I parsed the following elements from a RSS feed : title, dc:creator and enclosure url (= an image). The parsing is working, i can see everything showing up in the console. But when i try to load everything into the tablecell, everything shows up except for the image. So i figured that the problem must be in the CellForRowatIndexPath method in the RootViewController.m ( or in the TableCell.m) What am i doing wrong? Please help! Ive been struggling for days with this and just cant seem to figure it out! • Jquery animate negative top and back to 0 - starts messing up after 3rd click

  The site in question is this one: http://www.pickmixmagazine.com/wordpress/ When you click on one of the posts (any of the boxes) an iframe will slide down from the top with the content in it. Once the "Home" button in the top left hand corner of the iframe is clicked, the iframe slides back up. This works perfectly the first 2 times, on the 3rd click on of a post, the content will slide down, but when the home button is clicked, the content slides back up normally but once it has slid all the way up to the position it should be in, the iframe drops straight back down to where it was before the home button was clicked, I click it again and then it works. • Regularly update database without browser/user

  I currently have a MySQL database which I was hoping to use to store regularly updated data from a temperature sensor connected to the internet. I currently have a page that, when opened, will grab the current temperature and the current timestamp and add it as an entry to the database, but I was looking for a way to do that without me refreshing the page every 5 seconds. Detail: The data comes from an Arduino Ethernet, posted to an IP address. Currently, I'm using cURL to grab the data from the IP, add a timestamp and save it to the DB. Obviously only updates when the page is refreshed (it uses PHP). Here is a live feed of the data - http://wetdreams.org.uk/ChrisProject/UI/live_graph_two.html TL;DR - Basically I need a middle man to grab the data from the IP and post it to a MySQL Edit: Thanks for all the advice. There might be a little bit of confusion, I'm looking for a solution that (ideally) doesn't require a computer to be on at all (other than the Server containing Database). Since I'm looking to store data over long periods of time (weeks), I'd like to set it up and leave a script running on the server (or Arduino) that gets the temp and posts it to the Database. In my head I would like to have a page on the server that automatically (without any browser open, or any other prompting other than a timer) calls a PHP script. Hope that clears things up!

• AJAX/JSONP Question. Access id denied using IE while requesting corss domain.

  Ok, Here we go. I have already searched the Stack for the answer i have found some useful info but i want to clear up some more things. I also search the net for the answer but no real help. I have worked with some api (yelp, ouside.in). In yelp i use to inject the script to head with the url request to the api with a callback funcion. I worked fine in all browsers. But while using outside.in api when i call the url the callback in not working. In yelp they have a url field can be used like that callback=callbackfuncion so the callback will automatically called. But in outside.in there is not such field available. Is there are any standard command for callback function which will work regardless of any server/api? I also tried a standard ajax request using jQuery $.ajax() function. It worked for my local pc for both IE and other browser but did not working in IE showing the error: access denied, other borwser seems ok. Firebug in my FF also don't notice any errors.   I am putting together an XSD schema to describe an existing GeoRSS feed, but I am stumbling trying to use the external georss.xsd to validate an element of type georss:point.   Hi, I have some code (it's part of a wordpress plugin) which takes a text string, and the format specifier given to date(), and attempts to parse it into an array containing hour, minute, second, day, month, year. Are there any functions that I can use that know how to translate both November and ?????? into 11? EDIT: Running print_r(setlocale(LC_ALL, 0)); returns C. Switching back to strptime() seems to fix the problem, but the docs warn: Internally, this function calls the strptime() function provided by the system's C library. This function can exhibit noticeably different behaviour across different operating systems. The use of date_parse_from_format(), which does not suffer from these issues, is recommended on PHP 5.3.0 and later. Is date_parse_from_format() the correct API, and if so, how do I get it to recognize the language?

• Approach for parsing file and creating dynamic data structure for use by another program

  All, Background: I have a customer who has some build scripts for their datacenter based on python that I've inherited. I did not work on the original design so I'm sort of limited to some degree on what I can and can't change. That said, my customer has a properties file that they use in their datacenter. Some of the values are used to build their servers and unfortunately they have other applications that also use these values so I cannot change them to make it easier for me. What I want to do is make the scripts more dynamic to distribute more hosts so that I don't have to keep updating the scripts in the future and can just add more hosts to the property file. Unfortunately I can't change the current property file and have to work with it. The property file looks something like this: projectName.ClusterNameServer1.sslport=443 projectName.ClusterNameServer1.port=80 projectName.ClusterNameServer1.host=myHostA projectName.ClusterNameServer2.sslport=443 projectName.ClusterNameServer2.port=80 projectName.ClusterNameServer2.host=myHostB In their deployment scripts they basically have alot of if projectName.ClusterNameServerX where X is some number of entries defined and then do something, e.g.: if projectName.ClusterNameServer1.host != "" do X if projectName.ClusterNameServer2.host != "" do X if projectName.ClusterNameServer3.host != "" do X Then when they add another host (say Serve4) they've added another if statement. Question: What I would like to do is make the scripts more dynamic and parse the properties file and put what I need into some data structure to pass to the deployment scripts and then just iterate over the structure and do my deployment that way so I don't have to constantly add a bunch of if some host# do something. I'm just curious to feed some suggestions as to what others would do to parse the file and what sort of data structure would they use and how they would group things together by ClusterNameServer# or something else. • Ensure that my C# desktop application is making requests to my ASP .NET MVC action?

  I've seen questions that are almost identical to this one, except minor but important differences that I would like to get detailed. Let's say that I have a controller and an action method in MVC which therefore accepts requests on the following URL: http://example.com/api/myapimethod?data=some-data-here. This URL is then being called regularly by 1000 clients or more spread out in the public. The reason for this is crowdsourcing. The clients around the globe help feed a global cache on my server, which makes it faster for the rest of the clients to fetch the data. Now, if I'm sneaky (and I am), I can go into Fiddler, Ethereal, Wireshark or any other packet sniffing tool and figure out which requests the program is making. By figuring that out, I can also replicate them, and fill the service with false corrupted data. What is the best approach to ensuring that the data received in my ASP .NET MVC action method is actually from the desktop client application, and not some falsely generated data that the user invented? Since it is all based on crowdsourcing, would it be a good idea for my users to be able to "vote" if some data is falsified, and then let an automatic cleanup commence if there are enough votes? I do not have access to a tool like SmartAssembly, so unfortunately my .NET program is fully decompilable. I realize this might be impossible to accomplish in an error-proof manner, but I would like to know where my best chances are.

• XCode Obj-C: Make new NSArray from one key each out of an Array of Dictionaries

  This actually could be a multipart question. But here's the first part ... I have an array (actually in a plist) of dictionaries. Each dictionary has 3 keys in it: (title), (points), and (description). I am trying to make a NEW array with the values of the key "title" from each dictionary in that first array. Let me explain WHY I am doing this and maybe that will provide a better all around explanation. I am trying to let people pick from a pre-determined list. Heck, if this was a web page it would be very simple since all I really care about are the "points" and the "Title". On a web site I could simply do a drop down combo-box with the "points" being the value and the title being the text for each row. But this is not a web page. So what I am trying to do here is pop out a modal picker when they click the text field. The modal picker shows the alphabetical ordered "titles" from our new array. And whichever one they select, it closes the modal view and assigns that "title" text to the UITextField which cannot be edited by the user. I have some code to get my modal picker to pop out. But I need to feed it an array of just the "titles" of each dictionary in my real array. Thanks in advance (and yes I am a newbie)

  I have heaps of free text news docs in one big file. The structure of each news doc is like: (Header line) Category, Doc1, Date (day, month, year) (body text) ... ... ... (Header line) Category, Doc2, Date (day, month, year) (body text) ... ... ... If I extract each doc from the big file, it costs too much time and not efficient. Therefore, I decide to read the file line by line and feed information to lucene the same time. I write c# code to index each doc to lucene like: Streamreader sr = new Streamreader(file); string line = ""; while((line = sr.ReadLine()) != null) { How can I tell this line is a doc header line from text line and get the metadata and all the text lines of a doc for lucene to index. Also, the text is read by OCR which can not give correct line-separating. Captions are mixed with content text iterate the process till the end of the file } with thanks

• Subitems are not all added to a list view in C# using XmlNodeList

  I'm working on extracting data from an RSS feed. In my listview (rowNews), I've got two columns: Title and URL. When the button is clicked, all of the titles of the articles are showing up in the title column, but only one URL is added to the URL column. I switched them around so that the URLs would be added to the first column and all of the correct URLs appeared... leading me to think this is a problem with my listview source (it's my first time working with subitems). I can use FBML share button like: METHOD-1 <fb:share-button class="meta"> <meta name="title" content="Image_TITLE"/> <meta name="description" content="Image_Descrip"/> <link rel="image_src" href="http://My_Img_Url_1.jpg"/> <link rel="target_url" href="Some_Target_URL"/> </fb:share-button> OR, METHOD-2: I can call fb:ui <script> FB.init({ appId:'111111111111111', cookie:true, status:true, xfbml:true }); FB.ui({ method: 'feed', name: '', link: '', picture: 'http://My_Img_Url_1.jpg' }); </script> Now the questions are: If I click on any image it will call either METHOD-1 or METHOD-2 and it will popup with that image. • Why do you program? Why do you do what you do? [closed]

  To me, writing a new program is like a puzzle. Before you write any code for a large system, you have to carefully craft each piece in your mind and imagine how all the pieces will fit together. If you don't, your solution may end up being undefined. What I mean is, I often don't know what I'm doing so I'll come to this site and beg for a code snippet, and then somehow try to hack it into my projects. I started writing GW-Basic when I was around 8 years old. Then it progressed from there, went to california university and did some Python and C++, but really didn't learn anything(college = highsk00l++). I've mostly been self-taught, took awhile to break bad habits and I'd say only in recent years would I consider myself understanding of design patterns and all that stuff (no but honestly procedural dudes, I would not want to design and maintain a large system procedurally, yous crazy). And despite my username, money has NOT been a big motivator. I've gone from job to job, I can usually get the work done perfect very quickly, any delays on my part are understandable (well about as understandable as it gets in the industry). But I ain't gonna work for peanuts because I got mouths to feed. Why do you program? Why do you do what you do?

• iPhone rotation woes

  I have been spending many frustrating hours trying to get rotations working on the iPhone version of Tunepal. Firstly, I have a tab bar controller, with a navigation controller controlling each of the views. I actually only want one of my views to be able to rotate and that is the TuneDisplay. I have a subclassed the UITabBarController and overridden theshouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation: (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation) interfaceOrientation { if (self.selectedViewController != nil) { return [self.selectedViewController shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:interfaceOrientation]; } else { return (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait); } } In each of the view controllers for each of the tabs I have overridden the method and returned YES for each orientation I want to support. All well and good and everything works as it should. If I try and do a rotation on a tab that doesn’t support the rotation, nothing happens. The problem occurs if I move from a tab thats rotated to a tab that isnt supposed to support that rotation. The new tab is displayed rotated too! I have tried the unsupported setOrientation trick, but firstly it doesnt work correctly and secondly I received a warning from Apple for including it in my last build. If (as I suspect) there is no way to limit this behavior: How do I make the microphone image scale when I rotate the device? How do I make the buttons and the progress bar expand to fit the witdh of the toolbar? Also, one of the tabs that rotates ok has a table, with a search bar. The first time I rotate to the right or to the left, I get a black bar to the right of the search bar. If I subsequently rotate back and rotate again, the bar disappears! I have enabled the struts and springs things on the search bar in the interface builder and it looks like it should behave correctly. Any ideas about how to fix this? I'm stuck at the moment because I keep getting this error: Error opening URL 'http://distilleryimage6.instagram.com/.jpg' Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2036: Load Never Completed. I know my string picURL is not functioning properly, but am I missing something that makes it not functional?
