  • Why wouldn't an embedded silverlight control work in a page?

    Hi, I have a silverlight application project in my solution. The other project is a web application project that has a .xap file in ClientBin. When I created the silverlight project, it asked if I wanted the asp.net application to host it (and I said yes). In the root directory, there is a test page for the silverlight control. That loads the control. In another directory, I insert the SAME asp markup to get the silverlight control to launch again. Nothing happens. Why would the silverlight launch on one page and not on the other? Can people help point me to documentation about dependencies that I might not know about? I've put a reference to Silverlight.js on the page as well.   • how does "recent history" work on sites for php? (PHP)

    I'm not sure if there is an explanation on SO for beginners, but if so, could you provide the links. I am interested in creating a "recent viewed" function that shows what links they clicked on before. I'm not sure if this is the 'correct' way to do it, but this is what I have so far... user clicks on a link(say ad.php?posting_id=12). if the user doesn't click on the link, no cookie or session is stored for the link if the user clicks on the link, it sets a cookie for $_cookie['ad.php?posting_id=22'] Each time the user clicks, more cookies are set In the recent viewed function, it gets all the $_cookie variables and displays them. if the user wants to clear the history, just destroy all the cookies I'm not sure if this is the way to do it, but is the viable? If not, what are the steps to create a "recent viewed" function

  • Is there any reason why jQuery Sortable would work in IE/Chrome but not Firefox?

    I have a fairly straightforward list of horizontally floated items, like this: <div class="my-widget-container"> <div class="my-widget-column">...</div> ... </div> Both the container and each column have a fixed width, set using jQuery's .width(). The container is position: relative and the column is float: left and overflow: hidden. Not sure if any other styles/properties are relevant. When I apply a jQuery-UI sortable to this, the result is exactly what I'd expect in Chome 8 and IE 8; the columns can be dragged around to change their order. But in Firefox 3.6 I can click an item and drag to create a new sort-helper, yet the actual sort never happens; the real item's position in the DOM never changes. I dug around a little in Sortable, and added a debug print to _intersectsWithPointer. Whenever the drag helper moves, Sortable runs through its list of elements and uses this method to determine whether the drag helper has passed over one. What I saw was that item.left had the same value for all my columns, which is obviously not correct, and probably the source of the problem. It looks like all columns had a left position corresponding to that of the first column. I'm using jQuery 1.4.3 and jQuery UI Sortable 1.8. Those aren't the very latest versions, but they're pretty recent, and I don't see anything in the Sortable release notes that indicates any such problem has been fixed. Does anyone know what might be happening here, or have any ideas for further debugging?

  • Why does my app not work on Android 2.3?

    Hi all, just a quick question about Android 2.3. I've been receiving reports from people using my app that it crashes on startup in Android 2.3. It works absolutely fine on the other SDK versions as far as I can tell. Since I don't have a phone running Android 2.3 I can't test out where the error is, which makes it very frustrating to deal with! Has anyone got any ideas what might have changed in Android 2.3 to mean the app crashes? Has anyone else had a similar problem? The following are ideas I've had for what might be causing it... Splash screen - on my main activity I trigger this in onCreate and it displays for 3 secs before finishing I'm using the GPS capability of Android, has this vastly changed in 2.3 to mean that something's going wrong? There's been a fundamental change in application startup in 2.3 that I'm not aware of. Any feedback would be much appreciated!

  • How to make a EditText work correctly in a ListView?

    Hallo all, I have a ListView, which contains an EditText in each of it's row. I also have an Array.The length of the Array==the Nr of the rows in the ListView. I want to store the user input (the text in the EditText) to the Arrray. E.g, if i type some text in the EditText in the first row of the ListView, i want the text to be stored in Array[0]. But how can i detect to which row the EditText belongs to? I can detect the possition of the row if the row contains a RadioGroup, but not a EditText. What if i first type some text in the EditText and sometime later i want to update mein Input? How can i update it? Thanks a lot!

  • Should I be using the command pattern? Seems like a lot of work...

    My Room class has a lot of methods I used before I decided to use the command pattern. Previously, I was invoking a lot of commands and now it seems I have to make a method in my roomParser class for every method. If I wanted to invoke say, setHotelCode I would have to create a method in roomParser that iterates through and invokes the method.   • Guidance required: FIrst time gonna work with real high end database (size = 50GB).

    I got a project of designing a Database. This is going to be my first big scale project. Good thing about it is information is mostly organized & currently stored in text files. The size of this information is 50GB. There are going to be few millions of records in each Table. Its going to have around 50 tables. I need to provide a web interface for searching & browsing. I'm going to use MySQL DBMS. I've never worked with a database more than 200MB before. So, speed & performance was never a concern but I followed things like normalization & Indexes. I never used any kind of testing/benchmarking/queryOptimization/whatever because I never had to care about them. But here the purpose of creating a database is to make it quickly searchable. So, I need to consider all possible aspects in design.   • Android browser touch events stop display being updated inc. canvas/elements - How to work around?

    On some android's native browser touching the page seems to stop the display from being updated until the finger is released. This occurs for both html element based animation (switching classes) and for canvas based animation. It does not however stop normal js execution and other events are fired as normal. On devices with this problem the dolphin browser also seems effected (not firefox though). Touchstart/move both have preventDefault() fired as well as stopPropergation(), cancelBubble = true; and e.returnValue = false;. In the CSS webkit selection has also been disabled. The page will not scroll. A similar question has been asked here: Does Android browser lock DOM on touchStart? but I'd like to find out if this behaviour can be overcome, or at least to discover what devices will be effected by the problem, is it a device or version android issue? If you cannot answer the question running the demo and reporting your experience along with your device model and useragent (displayed at bottom of demo page) as a comment might help others or myself answer the question. Here is a demo and steps to reproduce the behaviour. Every second the canvas is cleared and a different image displayed and the div has it's class switched (both toggle between 0 and 1 pngs). Once this has toggled a few times place your finger on the canvas (the top grey box) and hold it there. Wait to see if the animation continues (sometimes it will once or twice then stops) and if there are any visual distortions. Update It seems that the Galaxy Tab running 3.2 requires handlers for touchstart/end of document, not just required divs for the screen to continue updating the display. Thanks jimpic. I'm starting to believe it's an issue caused by manufacturers skins, although this is difficult to prove.

  • Is there a work-around that allows missing data to equal NULL for LOAD DATA INFILE in MySQL?

    I have a lot of large csv files with NULL values stored as ,, (i.e., no entry). After a lot of searching I found that this is a known "bug", although it may be a feature for some users. Is there a way that I can fix this on the fly without pre-processing? These data are all numeric, so a zero value is very different from NULL. Or if I have to do pre-processing, is there one that is most promising for dealing with tens of csv files of 100mb to 1gb? Thanks!

    I've got a base class object that is used for filtering. Select(...) finds objects in the based on x criteria, Filter(...) filters those selected further. If the remaining filtered collection has more than 1 object in it, we do some business stuff with it (unimportant to the problem here). SendToSuccessor(...) is called if there weren't enough objects found after filtering (it's a composite where the next class in succession will also be derived from Filter but have different filtering criteria) All has been ok, but now I'm building another set of filters, which I was going to subclass from this. The filters I'm building however would require different params and I don't want to just implement those methods and not use the params or just add to the param list the ones I need and have them not used in the existing filters. They still perform the same logical process though.   • Why does my JQuery Image swap not work in firefox or chrome, but fine in IE?

    Hi, Relatively new to JQuery. I've got some code that does a banner swap with a fade in fade out transition. The images swap as expected in IE8, chrome, and firefox. However, the actual fade, the smooth transition between images only works in IE. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a fix?     Hi all. I have a make build system that I am trying to decipher that someone else wrote. I am getting an error when I run it on a redhat system, but not when I run it on my solaris system. The versions of gmake are the same major revision (one off on minor revision). Basically self explanatory from the names. Now as best I can tell, this is generating in /lib/deps a .d file that has the object and source dependencies in it. In other words, for the utilities.a library, I will get a utils.o and utils.c dependency stack, all in the file utils.d There is some syntax error that is being generated in that file I think, because I get the following error: ../lib/deps/util.d:25: *** target pattern contains no '%'. Stop. gmake[2]: *** [all] Error 2 gmake[1]: *** [all] Error 2 gmake: *** [all] Error 2 I am not sure if my error is in the dependency generation, or some further down part, like the object generation target? One construct they both support is this x=["key" => "value"] Knowing the difference between arrays and hashes, I would think this to be illegal, but the result in Ruby is [{"key" => "value"}] Why is this? And with this kinda syntax why can't you do x=("key" => "value") Why is an array a special case for implicitly created hashes?
