• How to make scrolling through images as fast as Apple's Photos app

  The Goal — On an iPhone, to browse through several hundred locally-stored jpgs using a UIScrollView. The Problem — Like many others before me, I've tried implementing a scroll view based on Apple's Page Control sample code and found it lacking. The biggest issue I'm currently up against is that the sample code's architecture doesn't seem to scale. With just a few images loaded from disk, everything's fine. Once the number of images gets into the dozens, though, scrolling suffers terribly: the scrollview stutters mid-scroll with each new swipe. The only code I've toyed with that comes even close to being reasonably responsive is Three20, but even there the performance doesn't hold a candle to Photos. For now, I'm just using Three20, but a faster, custom solution would definitely be preferable.

• Images not displayed in silverlight when app is run

  I'm trying to display an image within a Silverlight application but the image does not display when the application is run. When creating the project within Visual Studio I chose the "Automatically generate a test page to host Silverlight at build time" option. • Simple Android OpenGL App Lag

  Hi, I have an Android OpenGL application which simply draws 2D squares (using 2 triangles) and animates them moving down the screen. I essentially do this by running: glLoadIdentity(), then glTranslatef, and finally glDrawElements all in a for loop. (The for loop is to draw all 10 blocks on the screen for every frame). In every drawFrame, the y-position of the blocks increments for the animation. The problem I'm having is strange. I run the application and the animation is laggy and not smooth. Then I re-run the application and I get a smooth animation. If I run again, I may get a smooth animation, or possibly not. Is my method correct, or is there a better way of doing this animation?   I have an application that accesses a sql server 2008 database. The server and database is stored on my local harddrive and I would like to learn to scale this up to having multiple users in our office access the application which I will i deploy on a server. For now the database will stay on my pc until I am ready to put it on a dedicated server for myself but for now how do I allow the application still to access my database. • Browser-based application or stand-alone GUI app?

  I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't find it. What are the benefits/limitations of using a browser-based interface for a stand-alone application vs. using a normal GUI framework? I'm working on a Python program currently implement with wxPython for the GUI. The application is simply user-entry forms and dialogs. I am considering moving to PyQt because of the widgets it has (for future expansion), then I realized I could probably just use a browser to do much of the same stuff. The application currently doesn't require Internet access, though it's a possibility in the future. I was thinking of using Karrigell for the web framework if I go browser-based. Edit For clarification, as of right now the application would be browser-based, not web-based. All the information would be stored locally on the client computer; no server calls would need to be made and no Internet access required (it may come later though). It would simply be a browser GUI instead of a wxPython/PyQt GUI. Hope that makes sense.

The Addresses collection is defined as ObservableCollection< Address Addresses and Street, Number, PostCode, City are properties of the Address class. The binding fails, when I use the "{Binding property}" syntax shown below. The binding succeeds, when I use the "dummy" strings in the commented-out code. I have also tried "{Binding Path=property}" syntax without success. I'm trying a Haxe-compiled solution called FAR (Flash Archiver) created by Edwin Van Rijkom (http://code.google.com/p/vanrijkom-flashlibs/) wich uses a command-line tool for creating compressed archives. When running the FAR tool locally on my ubuntu laptop, everything works fine. When running remotely (terminal as Root) on my Ubuntu and Debian servers, it gives the following error: Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: I've tried to reach Edvin about this, but no response so far. Maybe it has something to do with installation or user rights on the server? Any clue?

Now, given choices above, are there any advantages in using one or another embedded EJB provider?

  Unlike the iPhone simulator, the Android emulator doesn't look like an Android device. If you have to create a screencast or promotional video of your Android application, the default skin of the emulator is no good. Is there any way to configure the emulator to look like an Android device? If you have dealt with this already, what other things do you recommend taking into account to record an emulator screencast? Not a programming question per se, but an useful question for Android developers.

• GUI toolkit for Unicode text app?

  In developing a tool for processing text in exotic scripts, I'm having trouble choosing a GUI toolkit. The main part of the interface is to be a text editor, not much more elaborate than Notepad, but with its own input method editor. It is to be extensible in a scripting language so that non-programmers can develop their own input methods and display routines. It will be assumed that all files are UTF-8. More elaborate support like regexes is not needed. The main sticking points are: characters beyond the Basic Multilingual Plane right-to-left and bi-directional text extension in a scripting language cross-platform Linux/Windows/OS X My first choice was Tcl/Tk, but it lacks bidi and going beyond the BMP seems dodgy. At the other extreme, I've considered Qt with embedded ECMAScript, but that might be heavier and less malleable than I would like. I'm even thinking about making it browser based, but I'm concerned that the IM for large scripts would be too heavy for client-side processing. I've also looked at a few similar projects in Java, but the quality of the font rendering in SWING has been unacceptable. What are your experiences in handling Unicode with various toolkits? Are there other serious issues I haven't considered? What would you recommend for doing this in the lightest way?

To get that grant access screen by LinkedIn. I am loading above Url using htmlComponent, and adding HtmlComponent to form and show it. Occasionally when I click on the "Ok I'll Allow It" button (i.e. after the button has been pressed) I get the following error message. "We’re sorry, there was a problem with your request. Please make sure you have cookies enabled and try again." but i'm receiving the response with oauth_token, oauth_token_secret, oauth_callback_confirmed = true, xoauth_request_auth_url, oauth_expires_in. Some buddy please help.

  I'm just trying to compile the linux-based FCEUX (NES emulator) on my mac, OS X 10.5 Leopard. AND the main thing is that I can't figure out how to change this code so that , I can erase any text in any give line at the cursor, the backspace starts to erase from end of the line . Please Help

• Porting Java app to Go - any advice?

  We want to rewrite kodingen.com backend with Go which currently is Java, running as daemon using jsvc. I have never touched any C in my life, am only experienced in Java so I don't know if this is something that I should even start.
