• June 2013 release of SSDT contains a minor bug that you should be aware of

  I have discovered what seems, to me, like a bug in the June 2013 release of SSDT and given the problems that it created yesterday on my current gig I thought it prudent to write this blog post to inform people of it. I’ve built a very simple SSDT project to reproduce the problem that has just two tables, [Table1] and [Table2], and also a procedure [Procedure1]: The two tables have exactly the same definition, both a have a single column called [Id] of type integer. CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Table1] (     [Id] INT NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY ) My stored procedure simply joins the two together, orders them by the column used in the join predicate, and returns the results: CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[Procedure1] AS     SELECT t1.*     FROM    Table1 t1     INNER JOIN Table2 t2         ON    t1.Id = t2.Id     ORDER BY Id Now if I create those three objects manually and then execute the stored procedure, it works fine: So we know that the code works. Unfortunately, SSDT thinks that there is an error here: The text of that error is: Procedure: [dbo].[Procedure1] contains an unresolved reference to an object. Either the object does not exist or the reference is ambiguous because it could refer to any of the following objects: [dbo].[Table1].[Id] or [dbo].[Table2].[Id]. Its complaining that the [Id] field in the ORDER BY clause is ambiguous. Now you may well be thinking at this point “OK, just stick a table alias into the ORDER BY predicate and everything will be fine!” Well that’s true, but there’s a bigger problem here. One of the developers at my current client installed this drop of SSDT and all of a sudden all the builds started failing on his machine – he had errors left right and centre because, as it transpires, we have a fair bit of code that exhibits this scenario.  Worse, previous installations of SSDT do not flag this code as erroneous and therein lies the rub. We immediately had a mass panic where we had to run around the department to our developers (of which there are many) ensuring that none of them should upgrade their SSDT installation if they wanted to carry on being productive for the rest of the day. Also bear in mind that as soon as a new drop of SSDT comes out then the previous version is instantly unavailable so rolling back is going to be impossible unless you have created an administrative install of SSDT for that previous version. Just thought you should know! In the grand schema of things this isn’t a big deal as the bug can be worked around with a simple code modification but forewarned is forearmed so they say! • Lion built-in VPN client times out connecting to Windows 2003 PPTP server

  I have a new iMac with OS X 10.7 (Lion) on it that refuses to connect to a PPTP-based VPN server (running Windows 2003 SBS). To shortcut past a lot of questions: There is a Dell workstation running Windows 7 on the same LAN as the Mac that is able to establish a PPTP connection to the same VPN server using the same credentials. That would seem to rule out any possible problems with the server, the port forwards on the server's firewall, the internet connection between the two, and the router local to the Dell and iMac. I've tried completely deleting the entire VPN "connection" from the Network prefpane and recreating it from scratch. I am certain the connection details are correct because they exactly match what successfully connects from the Win7 machine sitting next to the iMac. Any suggestions?

• BAD DC transfering FSMO Roles to ADC

  I have a DC (FQDN:server.icmcpk.local) and an ADC (FQDN:file-server.icmcpk.local). Recently my DC is facing a bad sector problem so I changed the Operation Masters to file-server for all five roles. but when ever i turn off the OLD DC the file-server also stops wroking with AD and GPMC further i m also unable to join any other computer to this domain. For Test purpose i also added a new ADC (FQDN:wds-server.icmcpk.local) but no succes with the old DC off i had to turn the old DC on and then joined it. I m attaching the Dcdiags for all three servers. • Nginx: Can I cache a URL matching a pattern at a different URL?

  I have a site with some URLs that look like this: /prefix/ID, where /prefix is static and ID is unique. Using Nginx as a reverse proxy, I'd like to cache these pages at the /ID portion only, omitting the prefix. Can I configure Nginx so that a request for the original URL is cached at the shortened URL?   I'm migrating from mod_php to nginx. I got everything working except for this rewrite.. I'm just not familiar enough with nginx configuration to know the correct way to do this. I don't care about the consistency of reads from t2 when doing an insert .. select and want to set the transaction isolation level to READ_UNCOMMITTED. How do I go about setting it in JPA backed by Hibernate?

• Jquery .ajax async postback on C# UserControl

  I'm working on adding a todo list to a project system and would like to have the todo creation trigger a async postback to update the database. I'd really like to host this in a usercontrol so I can drop the todo list onto a project page, task page or stand alone todo list page. Here's what I have. I'd really rather have the response method live inside the user control as well. Since I'll be dropping it on several pages to keep from having to go put a method on each individual page. Any help would be appreciated.

• Problem with onRetainNonConfigurationInstance

  I am writing a small app using the Android SDK, 1.6 target, and the Eclipse plug-in. I have layouts for both portrait and landscape mode, and most everything is working well. I say most because I am having issues with the orientation change. One part of the app has a ListView "on top of" another section. That section consists of 4 checkboxes, a button, and some TextViews. That is the portrait version. The landscape version replaces the ListView with a Spinner and rearranges some of the other components (but leaves the ALL resource ids the same). While in either orientation things work like they should. It's when the app switches orientation that things go off. Only 1 of the checkboxes maintains it's state throughout both layout changes. The other three CBs only maintain their state when going from landscape-portrait. I am also having problem getting the ListView/Spinner to correctly set themselves on changing. I am using onRetainNonConfigurationInstance() and creating a custom object that is returned. When I step through the code during a orientation change, the custom object is successfully pulled back out the the ether, and the widgets are being set to the correct values (inspecting them). • Create Chemistry Equations and Diagrams in Word

  Microsoft Word is a great tool for formatting text, but what if you want to insert a chemistry formula or diagram?  Thanks to a new free add-in for Word, you can now insert high-quality chemistry formulas and diagrams directly from the Ribbon in Word. Microsoft’s new Education Labs has recently released the new Chemistry Add-in for Word 2007 and 2010.  This free download adds support for entering and editing chemistry symbols, diagrams, and formulas using the standard XML based Chemical Markup Language.  You can convert any chemical name, such as benzene, or formula, such as H2O, into a chemical diagram, standard name, or formula.  Whether you’re a professional chemist, just taking chemistry in school, or simply curious about the makeup of Citric Acid, this add-in is an exciting way to bring chemistry to your computer. This add-in works great on Word 2007 and 2010, including the 64 bit version of Word 2010.  Please note that the current version is still in beta, so only run it if you are comfortable running beta products. Getting Started Download the Chemistry add-in from Microsoft Education Labs (link below), and unzip the file.  Then, run the ChemistryAddinforWordBeta2.Setup.msi. It may inform you that you need to install the Visual Studio Tools for Office 3.0.  Simply click Yes to download these tools. This will open the download in your default browser.  Simply click run, or save and then run it when it is downloaded. Now, click next to install the Visual Studio Tools for Office as usual. When this is finished, run the ChemistryAddinforWordBeta2.Setup.msi again.  This time, you can easily install it with the default options. Once it’s finished installing, open Word to try out the Chemistry Add-in.  You will be asked if you want to install this customization, so click Install to enable it. Now you will have a new Chemistry tab in your Word ribbon.  Here’s the ribbon in Word 2010… And here it is in Word 2007.   Using the Chemistry Add-in It’s very easy to insert nice chemistry diagrams and formulas in Word with the Chemistry add-in.  You can quickly insert a premade diagram from the Chemistry Gallery: Or you can insert a formula from file.  Simply click “From File” and choose any Chemical Markup Language (.cml) formatted file to insert the chemical formula. You can also convert any chemical name to it’s chemical form.  Simply select the word, right-click, select “Convert to Chemistry Zone” and then click on its name. Now you can see the chemical form in the sidebar if you click the Chemistry Navigator button, and can choose to insert the diagram into the document.  Some chemicals will automatically convert to the diagram in the document, while others simply link to it in the sidebar.  Either way, you can display exactly what you want. You can also convert a chemical formula directly to it’s chemical diagram.  Here we entered H2O and converted it to Chemistry Zone: This directly converted it to the diagram directly in the document. You can click the Edit button on the top, and from there choose to either edit the 2D model of the chemical, or edit the labels. When you click Edit Labels, you may be asked which form you wish to display.  Here’s the options for potassium permanganate: You can then edit the names and formulas, and add or remove any you wish. If you choose to edit the chemical in 2D, you can even edit the individual atoms and change the chemical you’re diagramming.  This 2D editor has a lot of options, so you can get your chemical diagram to look just like you want. And, if you need any help or want to learn more about the Chemistry add-in and its features, simply click the help button in the Chemistry Ribbon.  This will open a Word document containing examples and explanations which can be helpful in mastering all the features of this add-in. All of this works perfectly, whether you’re running it in Word 2007 or 2010, 32 or 64 bit editions. Conclusion Whether you’re using chemistry formulas everyday or simply want to investigate a chemical makeup occasionally, this is a great way to do it with tools you already have on your computer.  It will also help make homework a bit easier if you’re struggling with it in high school or college. The FillData() method is a method that returns a DataTable and basically creates a dummy data in the DataTable to be used as the GridView DataSource. You can replace the code in that method if you want to use actual data from database but for the purpose of this example I just fill the DataTable with a dummy data on it. The BindGridVew is a method that handles the actual binding of GridVew. The InsertRow() is a method that returns a DataRow. This method handles the insertion of the sub row. Now in the LinkButton OnClick event, we casted the sender to a LinkButton to determine the specific object that fires up the event and get the row values. We then reference the Data from ViewState to get the current data that is being used in the GridView. If the LinkButton text is "Insert" then we will insert new row to the DataSource ( in this case the DataTable) based on the rowIndex if not then Delete the sub row that was added.   I'm currently testing a new version of an app of mine on OSX 10.5 An user reported some weird crashes during use of the application, sadly not reproducible by me. At first sight it seems to happen randomly, once he had the crash while opening an NSOpenPanel and once during focusing an NSTextField and once during NSView switch in a parent view.   I have been looking for a way to define an autoincrement data type in Oracle and have found these questions on Stack Overflow: Autoincrement in Oracle Autoincrement Primary key in Oracle database The way to use autoincrement types consists in defining a sequence and a trigger to make insertion transparent, where the insertion trigger looks so: create trigger mytable_trg before insert on mytable for each row when (new.id is null) begin select myseq.nextval into :new.id from dual; end; I have some doubts about the behaviour of this trigger: What does this trigger do when the supplied value of "id" is different from NULL? What does the colon before "new" mean? I want the trigger to insert the new row with the next value of the sequence as ID whatever the supplied value of "new.id" is. I imagine that the WHEN statement makes the trigger to only insert the new row if the supplied ID is NULL (and it will not insert, or will fail, otherwise). Could I just remove the WHEN statement in order for the trigger to always insert using the next value of the sequence?

I have used BFS algorithm to do the job, but unfortunately I can only print one shortest path not all of them, for example if they are 4 paths having lenght 3, my algorithm only prints the first one but I would like it to print all the four shortest paths.   I'm looking to have a click event for all columns but the last column of a GridView and then have a separate click event for the last column of the gridview (a DropDownList). • Optimizing a lot of Scanner.findWithinHorizon(pattern, 0) calls

  I'm building a process which extracts data from 6 csv-style files and two poorly laid out .txt reports and builds output CSVs, and I'm fully aware that there's going to be some overhead searching through all that whitespace thousands of times, but I never anticipated converting about about 50,000 records would take 12 hours. My Scanner id is scanning a java.util.String, figured buffering it to memory would reduce I/O since the search here is being performed thousands of times on a relatively small file. The performance increase compared to scanning a BufferedReader(FileReader(File)) was probably less than 1%, the process still looks to be taking a LONG time. I've also traced execution and the slowness of my overall conversion process is definitely between the first and last like of the lookup method. In fact, so much so that I ran a shortcut process to count the number of occurrences of various identifiers in the .csv-style files (I use 2 lookup methods, this is just one of them) and the process completed indexing approx 4 different identifiers for 50,000 records in less than a minute. Compared to 12 hours, that's instant. Some notes (updated): I don't necessarily need the pattern-matching behaviour, I only get the first field of a line of text so I need to match line breaks or use Scanner.nextLine(). All ID numbers I need start at position 0 of a line and run through til the first block of whitespace, after which is the name of the corresponding object. I would ideally want to return a String, not an int locating the line number or start position of the result, but if it's faster then it will still work just fine. If an int is being returned, however, then I would now have to seek to that line again just to get the ID; storing the ID of every line that is searched sounds like a way around that. Anything to help me out, even if it saves 1ms per search, will help, so all input is appreciated. Thankyou! Usage scenario 1: I have a list of objects in file A, who in the old-style system have an id number which is not in file A. It is, however, POSSIBLY in another csv-style file (file B) or possibly still in a .txt report (file C) which each also contain a bunch of other information which is not useful here, and so file B needs to be searched through for the object's full name (1 token since it would reside within the second column of any given line), and then the first column should be the ID number. If that doesn't work, we then have to split the search token by whitespace into separate tokens before doing a search of file C for those tokens as well. Much like a person's name. As per a comment, I will pre-compile the regex for my objectSearchToken, which is just [\r\n]+. What's ending up happening in file C is, every single line is being checked, even the 95% of lines which don't contain an ID number and object name at the start. Would it be quicker to use ^[\r\n]+.*(objectname) instead of two separate regexes? It may reduce the number of _match executions. The more general case of that would be, concatenate all tokensBefore with all tokensAfter, and put a .* in the middle. It would need to be matching backwards through the file though, otherwise it would match the correct line but with a huge .* block in the middle with lots of lines. The above situation could be resolved if I could get java.util.Scanner to return the token previous to the current one after a call to findWithinHorizon. I have another usage scenario. Will put it up asap.

  hi, i am very new in android development as well as in java. i had developed an application that gets an image url from a site and wanted to download it into the device and later on i would like to enable users to set it as wallpapers. however, i am met a problem when assigning onclick event to a button. Once i uncomment the line in red, it will pop up a box stating that the application was stopped unexpectedly. • List getting cleared every button click inside Update Panel?

The list is a global variable, and on page_load I set that to the gridview's datasource and databind it. However, anytime I click the 'add a user' button, or the button to remove the user from the list. It appears like it is doing a full post back even though all these elements are inside the update Panel. So if that's the case, why is it calling page_load everytime I click the buttons? I ran this code and debug and I see that even before any of the code associated with button press fires, page_load runs again. I tried putting the gvAssociatedUser.Datasource = associatedFaculty and the line below inside the Page.IsPostBack check, that prevented the page from working. I tried every combination of settings of the update panel for ChildrenAsTriggers and UpdateMode, and none of them worked. I know this is something simple, but all the combinations I've tried won't get it to work. How can I make this thing work? Edited: It wasn't causing a full postback so I was wrong as to the cause. I thought the page was doing a full post back thus resetting my associatedFaculty list global variable, but it isn't doing a full postback. The issue I am having is everytime I click btnAddUser it will add one element to the associatedFaculty list and thus bound to gvAssociatedusers. This works the first time, but the second time I click it, it overwrites the first element. So it appears like my associatedFaculty list is getting reset each time I click the button?

The problem is, when the form is submitted, it doesn't take into account the url b/c the form submits to the function "survey", which passes data to the lib function, so things are always updated, never created. *How can I pass $method to the _submit() function correctly?!*
