  I am working through a book about Javascript and have encountered the following example of code designed to replace the value of the class attribute of a table header HTML element: th.className = th.className.replace(/asc/,"dsc"); th.className = th.className.replace(/dsc/,"asc"); Why is the first parameter of .replace, the current value of th.className, enclosed in forward slashes instead of quotation marks? Why not use quotation marks to enclose both parameters, not just the second one? Thank you in advance for any help given.   Can anyone recommend a .Net XML Serialization library (ideally open source). I am looking for a robust XML serialization library that I can throw any object at, which will produce a human readable XML representation of the public properties for logging purposes. I never need to be able to deserialize. XmlSerializer's requirement of an object having a parameter constructor is too restrictive for what I want. DataContractSerializer does not give enough control over the output (which is not particularly human-readable). Any recommendations appreciated! Thanks

  I wrote the exact query I need in Mongo console, but I'm having trouble rewriting it in C# driver. Here's a sample of the document, it's simple dictionary: { "_id" : ObjectId("539716bc101c588f941e2c27"), "_t" : "DictionaryDocument", "CsvSeparator" : ",", "SelectedAccounts" : "0", ... } Here's the query: db.settings.find({"SelectedAccounts" :{$exists:true}},{"SelectedAccounts":1, "_id":0} ) Now, I got the first part, Find with exists working, but how to write the second parameter in C# driver? I'd just like a single string as a result, not entire document. Here's C# code I got so far: _collection.FindOneAs(typeof(DictionaryDocument), Query.Exists(key)); key in this case is "SelectedAccounts". I'd like the query to filter and return only the data I need, I don't want to return all the results and search on the C# side. EDIT: I wouldn't mind if _id was passed back, but I don't need it. So only this part would work if it could be converted in C#: db.settings.find({"SelectedAccounts" :{$exists:true}},{"SelectedAccounts":1} )

  Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to make a generic webservice method in java like this: @WebMethod public <T extends Foo> void testGeneric(T data){ However when I try to consume this with a Java client I get an error stating: [ERROR] Schema descriptor {http://####/}testGeneric in message part "parameters" is not defined and could not be bound to Java. I know it is possible to make a method that takes a parameter such as List and this generates correctly using JAX-WS. I don't mind if there is a solution that means I am tied to using only a particular technology. Thanks, Dan.

• Visual C++ 2008: Finding the cause of slow link times

  I have a legacy C++ project that takes an annoyingly long time to build (several minutes, even for small incremental changes), and I found most of the time was spent linking. The project is already using precompiled headers and incremental compilation. I have enabled the "/time" command line parameter in the hope I would get more details about what is slowing the linker, and got the following output: 1>Linking... 1> MD Merge: Total time = 59.938s 1> Generate Transitions: Total time = 0.500s 1> MD Finalize: Total time = 7.328s 1>Pass 1: Interval #1, time = 71.718s 1>Pass 2: Interval #2, time = 8.969s 1>Final: Total time = 80.687s 1>Final: Total time = 80.953s Is there a way to get more details about each of these steps? For example, I would like to find if they are spending most time linking to a specific .lib or .obj file. Also, is there any documentation that explains what each of these steps do?

I've tried: System.Collections.Specialized.NameValueCollection myform = Request.Form; and i get the same error. and i've tried: foreach(KeyValuePair<string, string> pair in Request.Form) { Response.Write(Convert.ToString(pair.Key) + " - " + Convert.ToString(pair.Value) + "<br />"); } to test if i can pass it one by one to another dictionary, but i get: System.InvalidCastException: Specified cast is not valid. some help, anyone? Why does the type inference fail with this default argument? List<Audit_Type> table = new List<Audit_Type>(); var query = session.CreateSQLQuery("call Audit_Rows(Audit_Table_Type(:table))") .SetParameterList("table", table, NHibernateUtil.Custom(typeof(AuditTypeUDT))) This is what I did intuativly created the ICompositeType and just set in a list of them in but this gives me nothing close to what I wanted. I couldn’t figure out how to bind to a table at all. I have built the inline sql that would do this for me but it would destroy my shared pool (not using binds). So a General question how do I bind to complex/composite types using Nhibernate?

• Identifying idle state on a windows machine

  I know about the GetLastInputInfo method but that would only give me the duration since last user input - keyboard or mouse. If a user input was last received 10 minutes ago, that wouldn't mean the system has been idle for 10 minutes - scans, downloads, movies - lots of reasons. So how can we identify whether the system is truly idle or not? Does anyone know what Window's definition of "idle" is? Must be a combination of thresholds - like less than 5% cpu util, less than 3% disk util etc. - along with the user input parameter...anyone knows the exact definition?

• Unit testing with serialization mock objects in C++

  Greetings, I'm fairly new to TDD and ran across a unit test that I'm not entirely sure how to address. Basically, I'm testing a couple of legacy class methods which read/write a binary stream to a file. The class functions take a serializable object as a parameter, which handles the actual reading/writing to the file. For testing this, I was thinking that I would need a serialization mock object that I would pass to this function. My initial thought was to have the mock object hold onto a (char*) which would dynamically allocate memory and memcpy the data. However, it seems like the mock object might be doing too much work, and might be beyond the scope of this particular test. Is my initial approach correct, or can anyone think of another way of correctly testing this? Thanks!

QMapIterator<QString, CfgSet*> ics(*m_pDefaults); while (ics.hasNext()) { // doing my stuff } And I get the compile error: Can't convert parameter 1 from 'CfgMgr' to 'const QMap< Key,T &' with [ Key=QString, T=CfgSet * ] I tried with a dynamic_cast: QMapIterator<QString, CfgSet*> ics( *dynamic_cast< QMap<QString,CfgSet*>* >(m_pDefaults) ); it compiles, but always returns NULL. What's wrong? How can I solve this?

  I have a function that gives me the following warning: [DCC Warning] filename.pas(6939): W1035 Return value of function 'function' might be undefined The function, however, is clean, small, and does have a known, expected, return value. The first statement in the function is: Result := ''; and there is no local variable or parameter called Result either. Is there any kind of pragma-like directive I can surround this method with to remove this warning? This is Delphi 2007. Unfortunately, the help system on this Delphi installation is shot, so I can't pop up the help for that warning right now. Anyone know off the top of their head what I can do?

  Hello everyone, PROBLEM: I have a program dummy.exe on windows. this program will bind to UDP port 5060, after started. but another program also want to bind port 5060. WHAT I HAVE DONE: using windbg to start dummy.exe, and set breakpoint on ws2_32!bind when the breakpoint hit, i changed the parameter (port value) with command ew this dummy.exe will bind to the new port, and worked well. QUESTION: How can i do that easily? write a simple windows debugger? Maybe i can hacking or modify the dummy.exe file, but how to do that? what's your way to achieve this? thanks

• Can I change the database server and database a report is pointing to dynamically?

  I have a Crystal 2008 report that will be deployed to an InfoView server. There are four different databases the user might want to execute the report against. Each of the four databases have exactly the same schema. Only the data in each is different. Each database corresponds to a plant we have around the world. Instead of creating four different reports (each one connected to one of the four databases), am I able to dynamically change the server/database the report hits based on a value the user enters into a parameter? I'm really trying to avoid having to create four identical reports except for the database connection on each. If this isn't possible, how do developers typically deal with this sort of scenario? I would imagine it's fairly common. Thanks very much.

• Handling Timeouts In A Website SQLCommand Object and c#

  I'm using visual studio 2008 and sql server 2005 and everything is working just fine under normal use. However if a user is on a page for a while several minutes with no activity then clicks a button on occassion the site throws the following exception ... Procedure or Function "sp_name" parameter '@SomeParameterName', which was not supplied I'm also encountering this error in Visual Studio while debugging the application, in otherwords run the site from visual studio then make some change to the html in VS save the changes and refresh the page. The error is not consistent nor is the time the page has to stay idle in order for it to occur.... The current sql command object timeout is 30 secs and the website timeout is 30 minutes. Has anyone else experienced this scenario and what is the fix as I would not except anything to go out of scope until the website timeout occurs ... Any insight will be appreciated.

  In rails I could do something like this to make sure a user is authenticated before accessing an action in the controller: before_filter :checked_logged_in, :only => [:edit, :update] I was wondering if ASP.NET MVC had something similar or if there was a framework out there that could essentially do something like the following: For certain methods with actions that take a certain parameter, I want to point the action to a method, check to see if the user owns that object, and if so, proceed to the controller action. If not, I want to redirect him to another action where I can show him he has invalid credentials. So basically I am looking for a sort of "before_filter." Anyone know of anything out there that can do this? Thanks!

  I need a solution that lets me accomplish the following: Returning CSS that is dynamically generated by an action method Choosing CSS file depending on request parameter or cookie Using a tool to combine and compress (minify) CSS I am currently considering why there is no CssResult in ASP.NET MVC, and whether there might be a reason for its absence. Would creating a custom ActionResult not be the best way to go about this? Is there some other way that I've overlooked to do what I need? • Is it possible to set a parameterized build or pass an environment variable via a hudson build trigger?

  I'd like to use hudson to trigger a "promotion" of a build. The build would be a simple script that just copies a release candidate installer file from one location to another. (development dir to release/stable dir) Our build server is not on the public internet, but I want to be able to send an email or a text message or an IM with the build number to hudson, which will parse the build number and then do the copy/move. In looking at the jabber/IM plugin it does not look like this is possible (the parameter part) Has anyone solved this in some way? Should I use some other mechanism? I would prefer not to have to do the manual steps each time (SCP/FTP, etc) - I just want any QA team member to be able to trigger the build server to do the promotion.

But now I would like to output the result of applying an external stylesheet to those files. I would write something like <div> <something like xsl-transform($extern-xslt,$path)> </div> to have the result tree of the transformation inside the main html output. It is possible?
