• xm console command is not working in XEN

  I have XEN 4.0.x.x rpm with CENT OS. I have set it up and have many VMs on it. But problem is when I execute 'xm console ' command from dom0, command just hangs dom0 and some 'y' comes up in next line but nothing really happens. Is it a bug in xen 4.0 and I need to upgrade it or I can tweak some configuration file in /etc/xen/ to make it work. I found following at some site but its not working: In order to be able to login to your domU from the console using: xm create {your hostname}.cfg -c (to the set root password for ssh, for instance, or to see more output than just kernel output when debugging) it may be necessary to add the following line to your /etc/xen/{your hostname}.cfg extra='xencons=tty' Is there any other way to solve it?

• Dell XT on Windows 7 never recovers from sleep

  My Dell XT, after upgrade to windows 7 ultimate seems to never recover from a sleep i.e. opening the lid shows a flicker, and then all lights go off. When I press the power button long enough it reboots and says that Windows had a serious error, blah blah (but no BSOD). Hibernate doesnt cause any problem, and that is what I am doing as default. Any idea how to debug more and fix it. Looked around (on web) for answer, tried related solutions (hotfixes for similar but not same problems) etc, but noting fixes this.

• virtual machines: optimal host os to run Windows XP guest os?

  My department doesn't have the budget to upgrade my ailing Dell D620 laptop. However, I do have the option to buy my own personal computer, then use my company-issued ISO image to run Windows XP as my guest os using virtualbox or vmware. Therefore, last month, I bought an Acer AX3910-U3012 desktop that had Windows 7 as the host os (and 8G RAM). In short, I was disappointed with the performance while trying to run WinXP as the guest os. (It didn't perform much better than my laptop.) Just wondering what the optimal host os would be for running Windows XP as the guest os? (No, I can't use my company-issued ISO image to build the os for my personal computer.) FWIW, I'm willing to spend up to $2k if it's REALLY worth it, but would prefer to spend no more than $1k. Also, in an effort to cut costs, I'd prefer buy a desktop instead of a laptop. • Linux Raid: Can mdadm --grow a raid1 while mounted?

  I have 2 500gb drives in a RAID1 setup that I needed to upgrade for more space. I mdadm --fail'ed each drive in turn and I used dd to copy each drive to it's respective larger drive (2tb each), removed the smaller drives and replaced them with the larger drives, and reassembled the array and forced a resync. So now I've got a 500gb RAID1 sitting on 2TB drives, and wish to grow them. The plan is to use mdadm --manage /dev/md0 --grow to grow them, then boot a rescue cd, assemble the array under that environment, and do the resize2fs on them. Can I use mdadm --grow on a mounted and live filesystem? Also, do I need more options to make sure the grow operation stays raid1?

• Is it a good idea to take onsite/offsite backups of server images?

  Assuming a non-virtualized environment it a good idea to take actual images of servers (using something like Acronis True Image) and store them on\off site? Backing up data is great but I feel it would be good to have copies of OS images in the event hardware dies or an upgrade gets botched I can always revert back. What would be your recommended way to do this (preferably using a NAS and an online backup service)? I was talking with the Iron Mountain folks and the service they described is more geared toward taking incremental snapshots of data. I'm not sure if there's a way to backup images in an incremental way such that only the changes between them are saved (that way I'm not wasting X GB each time I take an image).

  I have been looking around and have not found a good answer to my question. I currently have php 5.3.3 installed via yum on my centos 6.3 server. I need to upgrade to php 5.10 or later. It is my understanding that you need to find the correct mysql and apache packages that fit with the php install. Can someone please point me in the direction of a an update guide? Btw I am not looking for "yum update httpd php5" this gets me the old 5.3.3 version. Thanks, Kevin.

  I'm going to upgrade my RAM, but I have no clue what to look for. There is cheap and there is expensive RAM. What should I look for? What are good attributes for intel i5? The i5 CPU and motherboeard supports 1600 MHz (PC3-12800), but there is still to much to choose from. There are CL10 (10-10-10-27) @ 1.5V CL11 @ 1.35V CL9 (9-9-9-24) @ 1.5V CL9 (9-9-9-24) @ 1.65V Higher CL is better? CL is classification? And I guess a high voltage is also good since thats what overclockers do to the ram (increase the voltage)?

  I have a table Site in SQL with (amongst others) three properties idReviewer1, idReviewer2, idReviewer3. Now I would like to create a methods on the entity class of Site to check if a user is a reviewer: partial class Site { public bool IsReviewer(int idUser) { return idReviewer1 == idUser || idReviewer2 == idUser || idReviewer3 == idUser; } } and I use it like this: return from s in db.Sites where s.IsReviewer(user) select s; However, Linq to SQL doesn't know how to translate this to SQL. I get the following error message: Method 'Boolean IsReviewer(Int32)' has no supported translation to SQL.   In my project I have it set up so that all the tables in the DB has the property "id" and then I have the entity objects inherit from the EntityBase class using a repository pattern.   I have an existing W2003 Domain, simple setup with one DC and a SQL Server (approx 100 users). There are issues with Windows 7 Clients and login scripts and we're now seeing much greater numbers of Windows 7 users turning up as they upgrade their PC/Laptops. What I want to do, is add another Server with W2008 on it, and authenticate the Windows 7 Clients - but leave the W2003 server running as is - to prevent disruption to the network and the existing WinXP users. Is it possible? Any advice as to how do this, without major disruption to the W2003 network?

• How do you encode an apostrophe so that it's searchable in mysql?

  I don't think that was the most clear question, but an example should make it a little clearer. I have a table filled with movie names, some of which contain apostrophes. I have a search box which is used to find movies. If I perform searches via mov_title = '$search_keywords' it all works, but this method will not yield any results for partial searches, so I have to use this mov_title LIKE '%$search_keywords%' This method works fine for titles that are A-Za-z0-9, but if a title has an apostrophe, it's not able to find the movie, even if I do an exact match. Before the titles are stored in the DB, I put them through this: $search_keywords = htmlspecialchars(mysql_escape_string($_GET["search_keywords"])); So in the DB, there is a forward slash before every single apostrophe. The only way to match a movie title with an apostrophe is to physically put a forward slash in front of the apostrophe, in the search box. This seems so trivial, and I'm sure the solution is painfully obvious, but I'm just not seeing it.

  I recently upgraded from Win 7 - Win 8. AppFabric was not one of the programs that came up as being incompatible when I ran the upgrade wizard, so I did not uninstall it. Now whenever I goto "Add or remove features" I get the following error: --------------------------- Windows Server AppFabric Setup Wizard --------------------------- Windows Server AppFabric is not supported on current operating system Windows 8 Pro(version 6.2.9200.0). Please refer to installation guide for the list of supported operating systems. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- Unfortunately the only way to uninstall AppFabric is via the "Add or remove features" - does anyone know a commandline command to kick the uninstall so I can at least access "Add or remove features"?

• Nvidia 8600 GT drivers Will not run setup

  I am attempting to upgrade my video card drivers with my nvidia 8600 gt. I downloaded the drivers from NVIDIA and when I run the setup, nothing happens. It does appear in the Processes, but never does anything. I've tried restarting, tried killing the process and re-running, I am an admin account... nothing works. What is wrong? [EDIT] The installer does run, it extracts the setup files to C:\NVIDIA as normal then when it tries to run that setup to do the actual install, nothing happens (the process does show up in Task Manager and just sits there). Attempting to run the installer manually via C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\296.10\WinXP\English\Setup.exe has the process open, but nothing happens. This machine is WinXP 32bit.

• Wordpress redirects to itself endlessly

  I've just upgraded to last version (2.9.1) from kinda late version (2.2.1). After the upgrade I've realized that you cannot access wordpress from my .com domain, however it is possible via other subdomain! db-he.110mb.com works fine while http://www.db-he.com doesn't. That both redirect to the same server, and configurations are fine. However you cannot surf index.php (which is wordpress'). www.db-he.com/index.php is doing a permanent redirect to www.db-he.com/index.php for some reason. Problem is with wordpress only. All other files works fine. For example, changes.txt can be accessed from both links: www.db-he.com/changes.txt db-he.110mb.com/changes.txt For some reason, it seems more a server problem than a wordpress problem. What can I do?
