Archiving your contact form data.

I get TONS of email from customer. Over time, this email helps me to determine what areas in our product collection are opportunities for enhancement or improvement. I store the email that comes from my blog contact form in folders and then search through them looking for trends periodically. It occurred to me that, while I need to get the emails because many of them are actionable, it would be great if I could use reporting and analysis tools against the collection. Guidelines or Design pattern to develop configurable software

I want to develop an application which would have it's own framework, using which developer can implement functionality very easily. Developer shouldn't have to code for each and every page or report. But, he can do it very easily by just configuring it using the framework provided. Some nice examples of it is SAP and Tally. They have got their own framework, using which anybody having knowledge of it can customize or extend functionality of the product. But, as I am beginner in this direction, I don't have any idea about where to start. Can anybody point me to some design pattern which I can follow or some similar open source software which I can refer?

Programming vs Planning

Recently I have been tasked with more High level planning assignments due to the lead developer of my team leaving. I hate long term planning. My brain just doesn't naturally seem wired for it and I am not interested enough in it to spend the time to learn it (it is hard enough to keep up with the programming side of the picture). Can I still be a good programmer without being a high level planer too? Are you expected to be good at planning out the entire product and picking a date, as part of being a senior programmer. Is it possible to be a good programmer and not a high level planner?

How to enable a Web portal-based enterprise platform on different domains and hosts without customization [on hold]

At Coscend, a cloud and communications software product company, we have built a Web portal-based collaboration platform that we like to host on five different Windows- and Linux-based servers in different hosting environments that run Web servers. Each of these Windows and Linux servers has a different host name and domain name (and IP address). Our team would appreciate your guidance on: (1) Is there a way to implement this Web portal-based platform on these Linux and Windows servers without customizing the host name, domain name and IP address for each individual instance? (2) Is there a way to create some variables using JavaScript for host name and domain name and call them from the different implementations? If a reference to the host/domain names occurs on hundreds of our pages, the variables or objects would replace that. (3) This is part of making these JavaScript modules portable and re-usable for different environments and instances. The portal is written in JavaScript that is embedded in HTML5 and padded with CSS3. Other technologies include Flash, Flex, PostgreSQL and MySQL.

Result of the "How long do you wait before Solaris 11 gets on your prod systems?"

I just removed the poll at 10:52, so this is the final result: My conclusions out of it: While the removal of UltraSPARC I to VI+ support in Solaris 11 may hit some of the people voting in the categories "Wait?" to "6 month", most of the users keep Solaris 10 running on their existing system anyway or migrate that late that even the newest system have reached their end-of-service-live or are near of it, so a migration doesn't sound that feasible. So i assume Product Management was right with their decision to remove the support in order to make the feature i can't talk of possible, as i don't think that many of the early migrators are still using the system in question, as most systems have reached EOSL. Didn't thought that there would be people waiting three years and more ...

Website custom tracking

I'm using ASP.NET MVC 4 and I want to track the incoming traffic of my site to know things like: 1) How many users that clicked a Google Adwords advertisement have bought one particular product? 2) Ranking of buyers grouped by Google Adwords advertisements. I could add a parameter to the URL like mysite.com?source=advertisement1234 but I want to avoid this practice to have cleaner URLs and for SEO purposes. Url.Referrer is not going to give me that information either, it's just going to say that the referrer is Google. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Magento Subscription Form with Image upload

We have a peculiar requirement and our site is in magento. Requirement We want the user to fill in a personal information form with their image. After that, the user should be redirected to a product subscription page where he can select either 3 month, 6 month or on yearly basis. Now, when the selection is made, the user should make the payment via our payment method. How can I develop this? I am not able to figure it out. Should I go about editing the registration page or what? Let me know how you will deal with such a requirement?

Get and install Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS driver

Recently, I changed my OS kernel from 10.04 to 11.10 (bugs), but after doing it, the video driver for the 8400 GS disappeared (was there in 10.04). I worked out the same procedure I did to install it in 10.04, mainly, sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia-current sudo apt-get --purge autoremove sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y install nvidia-current but it didn't work even though the commands seemed to install the driver without problems. Creating an OpenGL FPS camera: I have the position and orientation vectors, now what?

I have been struggling to create a first person camera in OpenGL ES 2.0 without using gluLookAt(). I grab the camera's orientation vectors (the way it's looking) from the current modelview matrix, and use that to calculate the new forward/backward (Z) translation value. I then calculate the strafe (X) value from the dot product of Z and Y (which is always 1.0). So, I have all the information I need to create a view matrix, but how do I do that without using gluLookAt? Almost all the examples I've seen use gluLookAt, but no such function exists in OpenGL ES 2.0. Besides, one of the moderators on cprogramming.com mentioned that gluLookAt is not appropriate for FPS cameras: http://cboard.cprogramming.com/game-programming/135390-how-properly-move-strafe-yaw-pitch-camera-opengl-glut-using-glulookat.html I am really confused by all the conflicting information I'm getting. I just want to create a first person camera that goes forward (W,S keys), side-to-side (A,D keys) and rotates around its center (Y axis only), Wolfenstein style. Trying to retrace our SEO domain redirect strategy

An SEO built a copy of my company's e-commerce site on another domain that contained our product's keywords in the name (i.e. as if Levi's built a duplicate site on bluejeans.com)...and then they referenced a lot of the images on the actual website from the other domain (as if Levis.com had images on it referenced like: img src="http://www.bluejeans.com/jeans-front.jpg"), but when you tried to reach the site by typing the name into the browser you would be redirected to the regular website, so the site wasn't really used for any purpose except I guess SEO. Since I didn't think this was doing anything GOOD for us at the time, I deleted the duplicate site and let the hosting on it expire, only to watch our search engine position rankings fall dramatically. Any ideas as to what was going on there? I want to get it back to understand its impact, but I don't know how it was set up. I contacted our host and they have no idea how it was set up. I suspect there was some sort of redirect in play, or something?

Ideas to automate customer order processing? [on hold]

i am looking for a way to automate the order processing in my webshop. Normally, a user buys a product in my webshop, then, i receive an order confirmation email with order details, address etc. After receiving the order email, I login to my suppliers website and input the order details manually. My supplier then ships the item to the address specified by me. I am looking for ideas how to automate this process, especially in the case if i receive for example 4-5 order emails at one time (and not one by one with several hours between)... I was looking at the program Winautomation, but i am not sure if this fits my needs. Any ideas are appreciated. thanks!

Do I need to buy a graphics card with openGL? [closed]

I'm building my own computer right now, and I've found a very good combo deal on a graphics card with monitors. I will be using mostly Linux of course, but I'd like to be able to do some windows work as well. I will do some gaming, but mostly just graphical design with blender. So how important is it that my graphics card supports openGL? I am working in small development firm, our main products are ASP.NET and SQL server based. We are deploying a new version of our product and client wants 4-hour response time technical support. Some of this support time will fall outside regular business hours and our boss asked us how much should we charge for being available outside regular business hours? Is it 50% of our hourly fee, 20% ? Any suggestion is appreciated, he is pushing us to speak up and I don't have any idea. I don't want to underprice my free time. Thanks.
