• Advanced example-driven C book with a lot of code.

  Hello, I am looking for a book on advanced C programming that: Teaches how to effectively express one's solution in C when one already knows the language in depth. Shows some common design idioms expressed in C, like encapsulation, modularity and that kind of thing. Is example-driven with a lot of good-quality code. I already know the language itself so books like otherwise wonderful "Expert C Programming" by Peter van der Linden is not really what i am looking for. What i need is a book on how to express my design in C, what are the common idioms, best practices, etc. I would also like to note that i am primarily interested in C, not C++, C#, Objective-C or any other languages inspired by C-like syntax. • Firefox 17 and CSS borders based triangles = crap

  Like many front-end devs, I've been using the border trick to render triangles in CSS. http://apps.eky.hk/css-triangle-generator/ this generator helps with the technique. Today, like every week (almost), the Firefox team released a new version without any clear changelog on the rendering engine. Now we can see an ungraceful gray border around those triangles. I haven't found a trick to get rid of it yet. On top of that, before Firefox 17, when people were complaining about how aliased those triangles looked, an additional trick was to set the border-style property to "dashed" instead of solid. Using firebug on the triangle generator, you can quickly see how it shows up now, and cry yourself to death. I hope a more brillant front-end dev than myself will find a fix for this and share it here. Thanks

• Is there a way to avoid IE7 quirks mode while rendering XML + CSS?

  I've got some DocBook documentation styled with a CSS xml-stylesheet declaration. It looks great in Firefox, but IE7 doesn't seem to understand the CSS child selectors (e.g. section > title { ... }). I think this is because IE is running in quirks mode to render this XML, and older versions of IE didn't support that CSS syntax at all. The pages I found on the web all seem to focus on HTML and XHTML doctypes and how IE will behave given various permutations of these values. I couldn't find any information about straight XML + CSS. Worse yet, it seems that random XML documents always end up in quirks mode, no matter what format or stylesheet directives they have. Is XML rendering in IE doomed to be IE5.5 compatible? Will I really have to rewrite my CSS?

• Correct redirect after posting comment - django comments framework

  I am using django comments framework for allowing users to comment on my site, but there is a problem with the url to which user is redirected after posting the comment. If I render my comment form as {% with comment.content_object.get_absolute_url as next %} {% render_comment_form for comment.content_object %} {% endwith %} Then the url to which it is redirected after the comment is posted is <comment.content_object.get_absolute_url/?c=<comment.id> For example I posted a comment on a post with url /post/256/a-new-post/ then the url to which I am redirected after posting the comment is /post/256/a-new-post/?c=99 where assume 99 is the id comment just posted. Instead what I want is something like this /post/256/a-new-post/#c99. Secondly when I do comment.get_absolute_url() I do not get the proper url instead I get a url like /comments/cr/58/14/#c99 and this link is broken. How can I get the correct url as mentioned in the documentation. Am i doing something wrong. Any help is appreciated.

• Firefox, prevent rendering between javascript statements.

  I'm trying to create some kind of zoom around the mouse cursor feature on my website which ultimately runs these two lines (+ the same for height/scrollTop). canvas.style.width = someValue; canvas.parentNode.scrollLeft = someOtherValue; The problem is that in firefox(3.6) the page is re-rendered directly after the first row has been executed and since the view is depending on both values this means that every time i recalculate the view firefox will will render an invalid view before the correct one, in other words creating flicker. I've tried swapping the two rows but get the same problem. In chrome, opera and IE this doesn't happen. Both lines are executed before any rendering is done. Is there any way to lock the rendering manually, maybe something like this? document.disableRendering(); //fantasy function canvas.style.width = someValue; canvas.parentNode.scrollLeft = someOtherValue; document.enableRendering(); //fantasy function

My question; is this approach secure? is there a better/more efficient way for doing this? All suggestions are welcome.

  I just wrote some markdown and it doesn't seem to render correctly. Is it legal syntax to have an ordered list, followed by newlines, then followed by an unordered list? Or is this a bug in bluecloth? For example: 1. One 2. Two 3. Three * Apple * Banana * Carrot Bluecloth creates a single <ul> and nests apple, banana and carrot as <li>'s under it. Stackoverflow's post editor (wmd?) does this too. Am I just doing it wrong? Surely this is a common usage case...

  This is what I would like to do. I would like to load content dynamically. Everything except the actual content will be rendered by javascript. I will place all the require information in a javascript variable or array at the bottom of the page. Then I will use javascript to place the content in the designated area. These are the types of things I would like javascript to render: Login menu Header and logo info Side bar info Footer info Dialog popups Ads All of the MEAT content will not be rendered by javascript. I will use the backend server to put the content in html. My logic is that more of the real content will be in HTML and all the other things will be rendered by javascript. Will this help or hurt SEO?

I put the map "setup" in the controller: @map = GMap.new("div_map") @map.control_init(:large_map => true, :map_type => true) @map.center_zoom_init([47.0, 26.0], 7) ... And only render @map in the view. So my first question is whether I am using the right approach of "diving" this code? And the second question is: I have to models, which are rendering the same map (only the resources are different). Where should I put my refactored method that renders the map?   Fibonacci numbers have become a popular introduction to recursion for Computer Science students and there's a strong argument that they persist within nature. For these reasons, many of us are familiar with them. They also exist within Computer Science elsewhere too; in surprisingly efficient data structures and algorithms based upon the sequence. There are two main examples that come to mind: Fibonacci heaps which have better amortized running time than binomial heaps. Fibonacci search which shares O(log N) running time with binary search on an ordered array. Is there some special property of these numbers that gives them an advantage over other numerical sequences? Is it a density quality? What other possible applications could they have? It seems strange to me as there are many natural number sequences that occur in other recursive problems, but I've never seen a Catalan heap.

I have a controller action that renders a view like so: def show time_left = Time.now.to_i - 3.hours.to_i @character = current_user.characters.find(params[:id]) respond_to do |format| format.html # show.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @character } end end This is fine as it renders the show.html.erb as I like. I would like however to somehow pass time_left to the view as a Javascript variable as this value is use by a countdown JQuery plugin. I could put a javascript block on the page in the HTML and print a instance variable out like so: <script type="javascript"> $('#countdown').countdown('<%= @time_left =>')</script> But I would like to keep all my JS in a external file and off the page could anyone give some advice on how to implement this? • replace values in form.data when form fails validation

  Hi I have a form field which requires a json object as its value when it is rendered. When the form is submitted it returns a comma seperated string of ids as its value (not a json string). however if the form does not validate i want to turn this string of ids back into a json string so it will display properly (is uses jquery to render the json object correctly). how would i do this? I was thinking of overwriting the form.clean method but when I tried to change self.data['fieldname'] I got the error 'This QueryDict instance is immutable' and when i tried to change self.cleaned_data['fieldname'] it didn't make a difference to the value of the field.   I'm running into problems trying to pass absolute URIs as parameters with clean URLs enabled. I've got hook_menu() set up like this: function mymodule_menu() { return array( 'page/%' = array( 'title' = 'DBpedia Display Test', 'page callback' = 'mymodule_dbpedia_display', 'page arguments' = array(1), ), ); } and in the page callback: function mymodule_dbpedia_display($uri) { // Make an HTTP request for this URI // and then render some things return $output; } What I'm hoping to do is somehow pass full URIs (e.g. "http://dbpedia.org/resource/Coffee") to my page callback. I've tried a few things and nothing's worked so far... http://mysite.com/page/http%3A%2F%2Fdbpedia.org%2Fresource%2FCoffee Completely breaks Drupal's rewriting http://mysite.com/page/?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fdbpedia.org%2Fresource%2FCoffee Gives a 404 http://mysite.com/page/http://dbpedia.org/resource/Coffee Returns just "http:", which makes sense I could probably use $_GET to pull out the whole query string, but I guess I'm hoping for a more 'Drupal' solution. Any suggestions?
