• Do you know Best Practise and Design Patterns for Adobe Air/Flex Applications?

  I'm going to write an application with the Air/Flex-Framework. I'm looking for Best Practise and general Design Patterns for designing software especially in Air/Flex. I have experience with this framework but never had the pleasure to write a piece of software from scratch. For instance: I stumbled across lots of software written in Air/Flex with nearly infinity global vars :-) Most of the software I saw was not object-oriented How can I pack the asynchronous method calls nicely? I'm familiar with general design patterns by gamma. I'm looking more for advise in designing good quality software with Adobe Air/Flex.

• Server side alerts for client side app

  Here's the scenario: User interacts with Adobe flex webpage to configure reports based on some data stored server side. They configure their view and have THAT view emailed to them daily. I've got the report builder, the part I'm trying to figure out is how to render the report server side and send it out as email (native flex functionality? convert to html? take screenshot? assume something is running client side?...) Please help me with some ideas. Thanks!

  Hello, Just look for strategies that have been successful in rendering hierarchies that represent inheritance structures using SL3/4 TreeViews. I need to render certain nodes differently than others, depending upon what kind of container they are (a choice between things, or simply a list of related things, etc.) So far, I've been very successful with the DataTemplate route: I've been able to use a technique described in Ted Glaza's post "Easy DataTemplateSelectors in Silverlight" (you may have retrieve a Google cache of this page). SO what I'm trying to discover is something on the order of a StyleSelector, not a DataTemplateSelector. I'm considering leveraging my current implementations of Glaza's pattern of selector objects to somehow detect the node type and set the ItemContainerStyle there, but it doesn't seem clear right now. • Font not correctly displaying in Internet Explorer using the css property @font-face

  I'm trying to render a font using the css property @font-face , in Firefox, Chrome and Opera it works fine, but within Internet Explorer is just does not want to display correctly, and reverts back to another standard font.   Where I work, my role has been evolving from a pure development role to team leadership. I find that this suits me, and I'm generally enjoying it. One aspect of the job that continually vexes me, though, is time management. My day used to be pure coding. Now, I still have a largely full plate of coding duties, but I'm expected to mentor other developers, work on requirements, make design decisions for other developers, evaluate bug reports from users, assign them to developers, and so on. I find that my day has become on interruption after another and the prolonged periods of sustained concentration needed to get any actual quality coding done are becoming rarer and rarer. Today, I finally grabbed my laptop and escaped to a coffee shop so I could get some actual work done. How do the team leads here manage their day -- or manage their workplace -- so they don't let their administrative tasks overwhelm them?

• Real time video stream from camera via server to Iphone

  Hi I want to create an Iphone app that can display real time video from a camera. The intended setup is. Camera connected to Mac Mini delivering real time video to Iphone over local network. The Iphone doesn't need to display high quality or use a high frame rate, but it has to be real time. Max 1 sec delay. I've been searching a lot for a solution, but so far I have not found a resonable one. HTTP Live Stream is not a solution due to the delay. Any suggestions?

  All, I have an application written in Zend MVC Framework. So, naturally all regular requests and ajax requests go through /public/index.php. I want my application to support maintenance mode. So, in my index.php file, I have the following code: if( Zend_Registry::get('config')->maintenance == 'true' ) { header('Location:/maintenance.php'); } The issue is, when ajax requests are called they render servermaintenance.php inside the page instead of redirecting to this page. How can I make sure it gets redirected instead of getting rendered? Thanks

• exportDocument() 'destination folder does not exist' error

  I'm trying to make a script in photoshop that will modify some layers and than export them as a PNG image. I've copied the following code from another place: function SavePNG(saveFile){ var pngOpts = new ExportOptionsSaveForWeb; pngOpts.format = SaveDocumentType.PNG pngOpts.PNG8 = false; pngOpts.transparency = true; pngOpts.interlaced = true; pngOpts.quality = 100; activeDocument.exportDocument(saveFile,ExportType.SAVEFORWEB,pngOpts); } The function export the active document of photoshop to the file specified by the saveFile parameter. It's working fine with simple paths like 'C:\images\result.png' but when trying with different paths like '~/Desktop/' or paths with some special characters the file isn't exported, and a 'destination folder does not exist' error massage appear. Any idea how can I solve it?

I've read here and there that Standards mode could cause unwanted behavior to some OOTB functionality and style (fly-outs, calendar items, etc...), but can't find a full list containing error reference and ways to correct it.   Hi, what is the best practice for this scenario: 1) User clicks "Sort huge javascript array" 2) Browser shows "Sorting..." through element.innerHTML="Sorting" 3) Browser sorts huge javascript array (100% CPU for several seconds) while displaying "Sorting..." message. 4) Browser shows result. Pseudo code: ... <a href="#" onclick="sortHugeArray();return false">Sort huge array</a> ... function sortHugeArray(){ document.getElementById("progress").innerHTML="Sorting..."; ...do huge sort ... ...render result... document.getElementById("progress").innerHTML=result; } When i do that this way, browser never shows "Sorting...", it freezes browser for several seconds and shows result without noticing user...   I am trying to use some rails code withing a javascript and need to have that rails code be dynamically changed. Here's the line of code: $(this).replaceWith("<%= escape_javascript(render(:partial => 'shared/products')) %>"); The 'shared/products' is the part I want to change based off information passed earlier in the javascript. How do I insert a value from javascript so that instead of 'shared/products' the products portion can be a variable? Hope this makes sense.   In my edit.haml file, I have =render :partial => 'old_question_tags', :locals => {:current_question => @question.id}. I'd like to pass the value in :current_question to a link_to_remote call in _old_question_tags.haml: #{link_to_remote image_tag('red-x.png', {:alt => "Remove #{t.name} tag"}), :url => {:action => 'remove_old_tag_from_question', :tag_remove => t.id, :current_question => current_question}} But I get this error on the link_to_remote line: ActionView::TemplateError (undefined local variable or method `current_question' for #<ActionView::Base:0xdb2fec8>) In _old_question_tags.haml, if I just print current_question (using =current_question), it prints the number without any problems. How do I properly pass that value to the partial so that I can pass it to the link_to_remote call?

  Hello, I am unable to render Chinese characters in IE 8. I have researched this and I am aware of the meta tag to force compatibility mode. I am also aware of the language pack you can install. Finally I have seen that Microsoft actually forces IE7 compatibility mode on their Chinese website. http://www.microsoft.com/zh/cn/default.aspx I am wondering if anyone has any alternatives solutions to this problem. None them seem that appealing to me. I am using utf8 as my encoding and this problem only occurs in IE8. Thanks

• iPhone post-processing with a single FBO with Opengl ES 2.0?

  I am trying to implement post-processing (blur, bloom, etc.) on the iPhone using OpenGL ES 2.0. I am running into some issues. When rendering during my second rendering step, I end up drawing a completely black quad to the screen instead of the scene (it appears that the texture data is missing) so I am wondering if the cause is using a single FBO. Is it incorrect to use a single FBO in the following fashion? For the first pass (regular scene rendering), I attach a texture as COLOR_ATTACHMENT_0 and render to a texture. glFramebufferTexture2D(GL_FRAMEBUFFER, GL_COLOR_ATTACHMENT0, GL_TEXTURE_2D, texturebuffer, 0) For the second pass (post-processing), I attach the color renderbuffer to COLOR_ATTACHMENT_0 glFramebufferRenderbuffer(GL_FRAMEBUFFER, GL_COLOR_ATTACHMENT0, GL_RENDERBUFFER, colorRenderbuffer) Then use the texture from the first pass for rendering as a quad on the screen.

• How can I return JSON from node.js backend to frontend without reloading or re-rendering the page?

  I am working with node.js. I want to press a search button, make some rest api calls to another server in the backend and return the json back to the front end, and reload a div in the front end so that I won't have to refresh the page. Now I know I can reload just a div with jQuery or just Javascript dom manipulation. But how do I make it call a method on the server side? I could have a submit button and it will make a post request and I can catch it and make my api calls from there, however from the node.js side, when I return, I will have to render the page again. How do I go about returning JSON from the back end to the front end without re-rendering or refreshing my page? Thanks.

• Is there a way to undo Mocha stubbing of any_instance?

  Within my controller specs I am stubbing out valid? for some routing tests, (based on Ryan Bates nifty_scaffold) as follows :- it "create action should render new template when model is invalid" do Company.any_instance.stubs(:valid?).returns(false) post :create response.should render_template(:new) end This is fine when I test the controllers in isolation. I also have the following in my model spec it "is valid with valid attributes" do @company.should be_valid end Again this works fine when tested in isolation. The problem comes if I run spec for both models and controllers. The model test always fails as the valid? method has been stubbed out. Is there a way for me to remove the stubbing of any_instance when the controller test is torn down. I have got around the problem by running the tests in reverse alphabetic sequence to ensure the model tests run before the controllers but I really don't like my tests being sequence dependant.

• ActiveRecord Create (not !) Throwing Exception on Validation

  So I'm using ActiveRecord model validations to validate a form in a RESTful application. I have a create action that does: @association = Association.new and the receiving end of the form creates a data hash of attributes from the form parameters to save to the database using: @association = user.associations.create(data) I want to simply render the create action if validation fails. The problem is that the .create (not !) method is throwing an exception in cases where the model validation fails. Example: validates_format_of :url, :with => /(^$)|(^(http|https):\/\/[a-z0-9]+([\-\.]{1}[a-z0-9]+)*\.[a-z]{2,5}(([0-9]{1,5})?\/.*)?$)/ix, :message => "Your url doesn't seem valid." in the model produces: ActiveRecord::RecordInvalid Exception: Validation failed: Url Your url doesn't seem valid. I thought .create! is supposed throw an exception whereas .create is not. Am I missing something here? Ruby 1.8.7 patchlevel 173 & rails 2.3.3
